  • The purpose of study was to develop new dental plaque disclosants which could replace erythrosine. Three food coloring agents(Red No.40, Blue No.1, and Mixed Green), erythrosine and fluorescein were tested for their color difference, antibacterial property, and biocompatibility. Color difference of Red No.40 was greater than that of erythrosine as concentration of solution increased. Color differences of Blue No.1 and Mixed Green were smaller than that of red dyes. Erythrosine showed obvious antibacterial property, but food coloring agents showed almost no antibacterial property. The taste and sensation of erythrosine was the worst, and the taste of Red No.40 and the sensation of Mixed Green were the most tolerable. Erythrosine stained dental plaque and oral soft tissue most deeply and long, and Blue No.1 was the next in the depth and longevity of stain.

  • This study was intended to investigate the wearing conditions of shirts, and examine the preferred subjective sensation for shirt fabrics. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 469 university students (male students $45.3\%$, female students $54.7\%$) in the Cheongju area, Korea. Frequency, descriptive analysis, $\x^2$ and t-tests were used for data analysis. The results were as follows: Regardless of gender, most owned 4 shirts in the autumn, which were each worn once or twice week. Generally, patterned shirts were less favored than those with solid colors, regardless of gender, but the color of the shirts differed slightly according to gender. Most students gathered items from those displayed in the store as their source of information on shirts, and tended to purchase items worth $30,000\~50,000$ won at franchised stores with friends of the same gender. They almost always looked carefully at the size and brand, but the care label and fiber content were rather neglected during the purchase. While purchasing their shirts, the following elements were considered, in this order of importance: size; color; fitness; comfort; price; tactile sensation. Light, dense, soft, warm, wrinkle-free, dry and strong sensation of the shirt fabrics were the strongest preferences for a purchase. There were partially significant gender differences in the subjective sensation of shirt fabrics.

  • This study examines the influences of correlated color temperature and illuminance on visual perception and temporary mood sensation in a small office. Field measurements and surveys were conducted in a full-scale mock-up model. Twenty subjects participated in the survey under six lighting conditions formed by three color temperature and two illuminance levels. Results indicate that 4000 K color temperature was effective to mitigate glare sensation from light source. Lamps with low color temperature such as 2700 K was not recommended for office lighting since they are likely to caused glare and visual discomfort. Preferred color temperature was 4000 K and 6500 K for 750 lx and 500 lx target illuminance respectively. The increase of illuminance was not an effective contributor to improve mood perception. The illuminance should be lower than 500 lx to achieve good mood, but the illuminance level in office space should be considered with visual performance simultaneously. This study suggests that fluorescent lighting fixtures with 4000 K lamps would be usefully used for office lighting since they formed friendly conditions for better visual performance.

  • Vintage fashion is a lot influenced by colors because an emotion is transmitted via images of "old feeling", "worn-out feeling" and "faded feeling" etc. Colors are visual sensation occurring at a time when lights stimulate an eye, which is a representative factor which humans first perceive when they touch objects. And colors in clothing function as a critical element which indicates an individual's impression and character as well as aesthetic sensation. In this study, I examined on the theoretical consideration and aesthetic characteristics via the previous literature on vintage fashion and colors. As an empirical study, I investigated on the colors of vintage fashion appearing in Pr$\hat{e}$t-$\grave{a}$-porter Collections, Paris from Spring/Summer, 2003 to Fall/Winter 2008. As a way for study, I investigated into the total 197 vintage fashion photos and calculated their RGB values by using photoshop. And I converted the values of the colors extracted into H V/C values by using Munsell Conversion Version 9.0.6 and analyzed on Munsell System of 10 Color Notation and the PCCS colors, classifying a color scheme by visual sensation measurement. The result of analyzing on the concept of vintage fashion and its color characteristics is as follows; Vintage fashion made an appearance the most in 2003 and 2004 and its colors appeared a lot in Y, YR, R and PB lines. Color tone concentrated on black and white, achromatic color and low chroma colors in a grayish line, chromatic color. Thus, the study found that colors suitable for a "worn-out", "faded" and "old" image are properly reflected in vintage fashion rather than a clear and bright background. In a color scheme, I found contrast color and same color appearing a lot, which gave an unharmonious feeling and a smack of the country. The study reveals that the color characteristic of vintage fashion is relatively diverse and complex in color, color tone or shade and color scheme, which shows a color trend which reflects a non-constructive and complex coordination characteristic instead of a standardized simple and clear image.

  • The influences of luminous environment on visual responses and fatigue sensation in art galleries were examined in this study. Field measurements and survey were performed in three galleries under various illuminance and luminous conditions. Result implies that vertical illuminance on art paintings needed to be somewhere between 200 lx and 300 lx to avoid visual discomfort. The vertical illuminance difference between consecutive paintings should not exceed 100 lx to keep visually comfortable environment. Visual comfort sensations were related to glare, visual stimulus, reflection from paintings, illuminance variation, and the sensation that subjects can clearly see the paintings. The sensation of fatigue was significantly influenced by the changes of luminous element that caused visual stimulus and discomfort. The sensation of eye fatigue among physical fatigue was primarily influenced by the glare, visual stimulus and comfort. The psychological fatigue was also influenced by eye fatigue, visual comfort, brightness and satisfaction with color of light.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the sensation seeking tendency and knitwear purchase behaviors of high school girls. The data were obtained from 475 high school girls at 6 high schools located in Daejeon. The method of study is a survey consisted of sensation seeking tendency items, knitwear purchase behavior items and demographic attribution. Data were analyzed by frequency, variance, crosstabs, and correlation analysis using SPSS WIN 17.0 program. The results of study are as follows. First, high school girls generally liked knitwears by reason of comfort and activity. Most girls purchased the knitwears to wear ordinary casual wear(81.5%). They usually thought sweater and cardigan to be representative of knitwears. Also, they mostly purchased the knitwears of simple and active design, achromatic color, 100% cotton, and solid or simple stripe pattern. The design and price were considered as important evaluation criteria in knitwear purchase. The information sources used by them were store display, friends, and internet. Second, the knitwear purchase behaviors of high school girls showed the difference between groups with high- and low-sensation seeking tendency. The most important factor of knitwear purchase was an unique and characteristic design in high group and a simple and active design in low group. In conclusion, high school girls liked knitwears and had different knitwear purchase behaviors according to the sensation seeking tendency.

  • This paper aimed to identify the sensation and the sensibility of transformed colors from the rustling sound of silk fabrics and to visualize the relationship between sensibilities and fabrics by two-dimensional model. The rustling sounds of 7 silk fabrics were recorded and then the recorded sounds were transformed into colors by the program of sound to color transformation. The sensation and the sensibility of transformed colors were evaluated by 30 participants with Likert scale and the physical properties of each specimen were obtained with red portion (RP), green portion (GP), blue portion (BP), and sum of color count (CC) by means of new equation. The adjectives of sensibility were grouped into three groups: Elegant, Active, and Tough. Elegant was related with RP positively and CC negatively. On the other hand, Active was related with GP and CC positively. Also Tough was highly related with RP. Furthermore, the fabrics that were estimated the high purchase preference showed high CC, RP and GP. Also two dimensional model of relation of the sensation and the sensibility could help to understand those relation.

  • This study was carried out to investigate sound characteristics including sound parameters and subjective sensation, and primary hand values related with sound of fabrics for blouse, and furthermore to predict subjective sound sensation with mechanical properties and sound parameters. Sound of specimens was analyzed by FFT. Level pressure of total sound(LPT), loudness(Z), coefficients of autoregressive(AR) functions for fitting the spectra, and sound color factors(ΔL and Δf) were obtained as sound parameters. Primary hand values for women's thin dress were calculated by using KES-FB. Subjective sensation for sound including softness, loudness, sharpness, clearness, roughness, highness, and pleasantness was evaluated by free modulus magnitude estimation. The results were as follows; 1. Fabrics for blouse showed similar spectral shapes to one another in that amplitude values were lower in most ranges of frequencies than fabrics for other uses. 2. It was found that fabrics for blouse were less louder because LPT, loudness(Z), and ARC values were lower than other fabrics. 3. Primary hand values indicated that specimens were soft-touched, flexible, and less crisp. Among primary hands related with sound, Shari values were higher for silk fabrics than for synthetic ones, while the values for Kishimi were similar, 4. Fabrics for blouse were rated more highly for softness, clearness, and pleasantness than for loudness, sharpness. roughness, and highness. Silk fabrics were evaluated more pleasant than synthetic fabrics. 5. Subjective sensation for sound of blouse fabrics were predicted with mechanical properties and physical sound parameters.

  • The temperature is a sense that can be felt by touch and sight. However, the concept of the temperature sensation is rarely used together with the concept of visual sensation and tactile sensation. In this study, the sensation of the temperature sensed through tactile and visual sense was investigated by the visual temperature depending on color and material characteristics. The textile was selected as a sample that could include color and material characteristics. The textile sample was composed of each 15-16 kinds of Yellow, Red, Blue, and Green of total 90 samples. The analytical method was to analyze first, the warm-cool of the colors of Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, and then to the visual temperature according to visual classification and tactile classification. And we investigated the correlation of the visual temperature depending on weight, thickness, and unevenness. As a result, the number of textiles felt by Cool and Warm differed according to the warm-cool of the colors feeling in the same textile. However, the visual temperature was different to each classification of textile. In particular, it was noticeable in thin, see-through and matte textiles. In relation to weight, thickness, unevenness and the visual temperature, the textile classification related to the weight is a classification of a hard, matte textile, and the textile classification related to the thickness is a thin, see-through textile.

  • Virtual reality(VR) technology allows users to experience the same sensation as if they look and feel real objects, and furthermore it enables users to experience phenomena in virtual environment which are difficult to illustrate in real world. A multichannel display is one of the virtual reality systems for generating high-quality images and guaranteeing a wide view angle using multiple projectors. In this work, we present the multichannel display system whose resolution is $4096{\times}1536$. We implement an automatic calibration (geometric and color) method for compensating the distorted image and color. The results clearly show the proposed system provides continuous and smooth images.
