Gas detection is necessary for various reasons, including the prevention of gas leakages and the creation of necessary environmental conditions. Among the gas detection methods, leakage of gas can be confirmed using materials that undergo color changes that are easily distinguished by the naked eye. Metal nanoparticles (NPs) experience variations in their absorption wavelengths under the localized surface plasmon effect (LSPR) with mechanical stresses, which change the distance between NPs. In this study, we attempted to detect the presence of gas utilizing the LSPR-related color change of a chain of Au NPs. The assembly of Au NPs, arranged in a chain shape, experienced a color change from dark blue to purple with a change in the distance between the NPs by applying a physical force, i.e., compression, stretching, and gas pressure. As the force of compression and the degree of stretching increased, the absorption wavelength shifted from doublet peaks at 650 and 550 nm to a singlet peak at 550 nm. Further, applying gas pressure caused an identical color change. With this result, we propose a method that could be applied to all gases that require detection based on gas pressure.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the elementary pre-service teachers' conceptions of 'color of gases' focusing on the survey from freshmen at a National University of Education. For the study, the views about 'color of gases' were surveyed from the pre-service teachers. And the responses were analyzed based on the patterns. The results from the study are as follows: First, the conceptions about 'color of gases' were divided into 2 top-level, 5 mid-level and 7 sub-level categories. Second, the number of students who answered 'certain gas has color' was significantly greater than those who answered 'every gas has no color'. However, only a small number of students who answered former understand the scientific meaning of color and the color of gases correctly. Third, out of 5 misconception categories, greater number of students answered with 'inaccurate scientific knowledge (Ma1)', so the category was classified again into five detailed sub-categories. Fourth, most of the students, who answered 'every gas has no color', stated "they have not seen any color gases through their lives" based on their own experience. Fifth, the distribution percentage for scientific conceptions vs misconceptions was not related with the students' gender but highly related with students' academic area and their science courses taken at high school. Sixth, the pre-service teachers have various types of misconceptions regarding the 'color of gases' and when they have to explain visibility of gases to other people they tend to pass on their misconceptions. Based on the results from the study, some educational guidelines were suggested.
The effects of equivalence ratio and pressure on burnt gas temperature in premixed fuel rich propane-oxygen-inert gas combustion are investigated over the wide ranges of equivalence ration from 1.5 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 7 MPa by using a specially designed disk -type constant-voume combustion chamber, The premixtures are simultaneously ignited by eight spark plugs located on the circumference of combustion chamber with 45 degree interals. The eight converging flames compress the end gases to high pressures. The burnt gas temperature is meausured by the nmodifie dtow-colr pyrometry method. The transmissivity in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the hightest pressure is meausred by in situ laser extinction method. It is found that a temperature difference between the burnt gas temperature measured by mofidied and conventrational two-color method is 10 to 20 K, but the accuracy of the modified two-color methdo is higher if the local transmissivity in observed region is uniform , and the combustion at higher pressures results gas density conditions and the burnt gas temperature increases as the volume fraction of argon is increased because the specific heat of argon is lower compared to that of nitrogen with a constant equivalence ratio.

A constant-volume combustion chamber is developed to measure the burnt gas temperature over the wide ranges of equivalence ratio from 1.5 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 6 MPa by two-color method. The combustion temperature is also calculated by the conventional two-region model. The premixed fuel rich propane-oxygen-inert gas mixtures under high pressures are simultaneously ignited by eight spark plugs located on the circumference of combustion chamber with 45 degree intervals. The eight converging flames compress the end gases to high pressures. The transmissiv-ity in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the highest pressure is measured by in situ laser extinction method. Comparisons are made with the combustion temperatures between two-color method and two-region model. It is found that the burnt gas temperature mea-sured by two-color method is higher than that calculated by two-region model because of being the negative temperature gradient on the calculation and the temperature distribution of light path-length on the measurement and the burnt gas temperature for the turbulent combustion is higher than that of the laminar combustion under the same conditions because the heat loss for turbulent combustion is lower due to the shorter combustion period.
In this paper, the pulsed mode operated gas discharge tube is composed with mixed gas of Hg-Ne (10 Torr), in the tube of 15.0 mm outer diameter and has variable color from red to blue with changing frequency high voltage. As increasing frequency in the gas discharge tube, the phenomena, that the electron temperature in the positive column increases and the radiation from atoms of higher upper state energy levels increases, exist The color have the locus from red (0.4972, 0.3128) to blue (0.2736, 0.2619) in CIE chromacity diagram with increasing frequency. The method of changing frequency has been shown to be suitable for the luminous color control.
The electronic operation of the gas discharge tube is controlled by the electrical energy as sinusoidal waveform in arbitrary frequency range, or as a sequence of pulses at a wide range of duty cycle, the gas composition, the kind of electrode and the vessel geometry. In this paper, the pulsed mode operated gas discharge tube is composed with mixed gas of IIg-Ne ( 10 Torr ), in the tube of 15.0 mm outer diameter and has variable color from red to blue with changing frequency and pulse width in high voltage. As increasing pulse width and frequency in the gas discharge tube, the phenomenons that the electron temperature in the positive column increases and the radiation from atoms of higher upper state energy levels increases, exist. The color have the locus from red (0.4972, 0.3128) to blue (0.2736, 0.2619) in CIE chromacity diagram with increasing pulse width and frequency. The changing method of pulse width and frequency has been shown to be suitable for the luminous color control.
Three types dyeing wastewater (dark, medium, light color) discharged from cotton textile dyeing with reactive dye was collected at each step of process. Each process dying wastewater was analyzed and treated by ionized gas. The analysis focused on $COD_{Cr}$, SS and color. Bleaching & scouring process wastewater has the highest $COD_{Cr}$ value in the three type dyeing wastewater. SS shows the highest value at dyeing process wastewater in dark and medium color but light color has at finishing process wastewater. The result of process wastewater treatment by ionized gas was that the ionized gas was effective in $COD_{Cr}$ removing of bleaching & scouring process and finishing process wastewater but was not good at dyeing process wastewater. From that result it is estimated that the ionized gas could not work in opening the aromatic ring and react only in aliphatic component of the molecule. Because the surfactants contained in bleaching & scouring process and finishing process wastewater have only one aromatic ring in its molecular structure, in contrast with the reactive dye compounds consist of aromatic rings great part of its molecular structure. The color almost removed in 1.5 hrs reaction time but $COD_{Cr}$ removal effiency was only 30.7% through 3hrs in 1500 mL of total dyeing wastewater treated by 10 L/min ionized gas.

Plasma Display Panels (PDPs) have illustrated impressive results in terms of light emission efficiency of the Ne-Xe mixture compared with the He-Xe mixture. However, He-Xe has shown to achieve superior color purity. This paper presents the optimization of excitation efficiency and color purity for He-Ne-Xe ternary gas mixtures. Furthermore, we investigate the effect that a protective dielectric layer has on UV photon efficiency in a matrix known as electrode type PDP.

In this paper, pulsed discharge is used to control the luminous color in gas discharge tubes. The luminous color of the positive column in gas discharge tubes filled with Hg-Ar-Ne (1: 9, 60[Torr]) and having no phosphor material, varies from red to blue emitted by the Ne and Hg from the pulsed discharge. With changing of pulse-width and frequency, the electron temperature in the transient period affects changes to the residual ion and metastable atom densities. The first metastable atoms containing energy levels of about 16.6 [eV]have a very high probability that a collision will result in the ionization potential of Ar being 15.8 [eV]. The change of locus in the CIE chromaticity diagram with increasing pulse-width and frequency approves the variation of luminous color.
This paper reports the optimal gas mixing ratio for color plasma display panel to improve luminous efficiency using gas dischage simulation which contains energy equation. We verified a simulation by measuring vacuum ultraviolet. The luminous efficiency has improved considerably(about 30%) by adding Ar (0.5%), compared with Ne-Xe(4%) mixing gas.
