Method to Enhance Color Gamut up to 89 % in Bottom Emission Active-Matrix Organic Light Emitting Device

  • Though bottom emission AM-OLED has advantages in respect of mass production, the bottom emission type is underrated due to its low aperture ratio and low color gamut, compared with top emission type. In this paper, we demonstrate that the color gamut up to 89 % can be simply achieved by depositing dielectric multilayers, whose thicknesses are determined using an optical simulation program, prior to formation of Si layer.

  • Blue-white reflective cholesteric liquid crystal display was prepared by a unique method of single liquid crystal layer, the combination of yellow color liquid crystal and blue color backplane. The dopant and host combination of chlolesteric liquid crystal affects the color spectrum. The CIE chromaticity coordinates of blue and white are (0.10, 0.16) and (0.29, 0.30), respectively. The relatively low driving voltages of 32 V for blue-white display are obtained.

  • The color electronic paper display panel, which is fabricated with about $300\;{\mu}m$ width of each color pixel strip and is possible to integrated into a fundamental full-color flexible display prototype, is presented. The monolayer of close-packed color electrophoretic microcapsules is formed on the ITO electrode. The color pixel strips are composed of each color electrophoretic microcapsules (i.e., cyan, magenta, yellow, and black).

  • The solution way of color difference in display device is using a device profile recorded with color dimension, color properties of each device and is using sRGB color space. The color matching is better sRGB than RGB color space. The sRGB is independent device color space and based on the monitor characteristice. An accurate characterization of the display device is essential for color matching. The calibration and characterization process in display device is needed to transform the device dependent color to the device independent color. The process of characterization performs a linerizaiton and transforms the linearized values into the CIE XYZ tristimulus values. The purposes of this paper is to estimate color reproduction using device profile and to explain the propriety of transformation method using variable.

  • A new dithering algorithm, "Hi-FRC", to enable full (16,777,216) color display on LCD panel with 6-bit source D-IC's is presented. The conventional FRC can display only 16,194,277 colors. In addition, The LCD panel with Hi-FRC can meet the color grayscale linearity of TCO '03 because it can improve the color shift problem.

  • A standard default color space, sRGB, provides compatibility for the transmission of color within the Internet color operating systems and device drivers. However, a display monitor we use generally have non-standard primaries and gamma characteristic different from those specified by sRGB. In this paper, correction methods of chromatic error for a non-standard display monitor are proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed method using the correction matrix reduced chromatic errors at in compared with the non-corrected image's on a non-standard display.

  • In this study, we fabricated high quality color conversion component with green/red phosphor and low melting glass frit. The color conversion component was prepared by placing the green and red phosphor layer on slide glass via screen printing process. The properties of color conversion component could be controlled by changing coating sequence, layer thickness and heat treatment temperature. We discovered that optical properties of color conversion component were generally determined by the lowest layer. On the other hand, the heat treatment temperature also affected to correlated color temperature (CCT) and color rending index (CRI). The color conversion component with a green (lower) - red (upper) layer which was sintered at $550^{\circ}C$ showed the best optical properties: CCT, CRI and luminance efficacy were 3340 K, 78, and 56.5 lm/w, respectively.

  • Two different kinds of subjects are discussed. One is " Enhanced color space for displays" and the other one is"An application for large format displays". Originally defined color space by NTSC has never been used widely for TVs and information displays as there have been no available display devices. LCD panels with new light sources for backlighting will provide much wider color space. LCD monitors which use these new panels will meet almost 100% with the color space defined by NTSC or Adobe. Now, It is the time to deploy wider color space defined by such as the NTSC or Adobe as the standard of LCD display panels. As the large format display devices with reasonable price have not been available till plasma panels became available, application of these panels as an information display in public space is a quite new experience for us. Various kinds of practical applications are observed and coming out. It will generate many and new types of businesses.

  • High efficacy white OLEDs with low voltage, high quantum efficiency and outcoupling fixtures achieve total power efficacies of 89 lm/W to 102 lm/W, operating voltages between 2.8 V and 3.5 V at correlated color temperatures of 2,800 - 3,900 K and color rendering ~70, at 1,000 nits.

  • This paper proposed the color reproduction modeling of OLED using standard RGB display. The kinds of non-standard RGB displays are various. And color reproduction of non-standard RGB displays is different by chromaticities of primaries and reference white etc. In this paper, we proposed algorithm that made OLED display's color reproduction to standard CRT monitor using conversion matrix. If using the algorism that is proposed in this paper, we can confirm the reproduced color characteristics to simulation beforehand and improve the performance of existing display. when developing new display, we are expected to be used very usefully.
