The Effect of Permanent Pleats Finish on the Color Change of Acid dyed Wool Fabrics (Permanent Pleats 가공이 산성염료로 염색된 모직물의 색변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate the color changes of acid dyed wool fabrics after imparting permanent pleats with si-ro-set finish. Monoethanolamine sulfite was used as a reducing agent. Color changes were determined by measuring CIELAB values after treating the dyed fabrics with various setting temperatures, times and concentrations of MEAS. Setting temperature affected the color changes: in the order of $150^{\circ}C>130^{\circ}C>170^{\circ}C$ Setting time had a tendency to increase the color change. As the concentration of MEAS increased, $\delta$ E was increased. Azo dye was more affected than anthraquinone dye by MEAS treatment. Color changes were mainly due to $\delta$ L.

Effect of Application over Time for Each Type of Blending Tea on Bovine Tooth Coloration

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate the effect of selecting commercially available blending teas and applying them to bovine teeth on color change over time. Methods: After selecting healthy bovine teeth, using a cutting-disc, 105 specimens with a dimension of 5×5×3 mm were prepared, and 15 specimens were distributed to each group. Black tea was used as a positive control, water was used as a negative control, and blended tea of five types was used as an experimental group. First, pH and buffering capacity were measured with a pH meter, and tooth color was determined using a spectrophotometer before immersion in the blending tea solution and 1, 5, 7, 14, and 21 days after immersion. Thereafter, the shape change of the enamel surface was observed using a scanning electron microscope, and SPSS ver.26 was used to analyze the color change. Results: The average pH of the five blending teas in the experimental group was 3.78, and the pH of group 3 (strawberry rhubarb) was the lowest at 3.22. The pH levels of black tea and water were 5.19 and 7.30, respectively. The buffering capacity was the highest in group 3 at both pH levels of 5.5 and 7.0. The L*a*b* color change according to immersion time was the largest in group 4 (rooibos yellow flower), and the amount of color change was large in black tea and group 4. As a result of observing the enamel surface of bovine teeth, changes in the surface shape were noted in all groups immersed in the experimental solution for 21 days, except for water. Conclusion: There was a significant difference between the experimental groups in terms of color change according to the immersion time, and color and enamel surface changes were observed in black tea and all experimental groups, except for water.

Effects of Different Types of Ramen Sauce on Bovine Tooth Discoloration

  • Background: This study aimed to determine the effect of ramen sauce on tooth tone changes over time, after selecting three different ramen colors from the ramens sold in the market, and applying the sauce to bovine teeth. Methods: Healthy bovine teeth were selected, and cutting discs were used to produce 60 specimens (5× 5× 3 mm), with 15 specimens distributed per county. Three types of ramen (buldak, chacharoni black bean sauce, and ottogi curry noodle) were used as the experimental group, and water was used as the negative control group. Tooth tone measurement was performed using a spectrophotometer (CM-700d) to measure the color before and after 1 (3 h 44 min), 2 (7 h 28 min), 3 (11 h 12 min), and 4 weeks (14 h 56 min). Analysis of the color tone change was performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 28. Results: In the experimental group, there was a significant color tone change before and after immersion. L* indicated the largest change in black bean sauce ramen, a* indicated buldak ramen, and b* indicated the largest change in curry ramen. The amount of color change (∆E*) was the largest in curry ramen, followed by buldak and black bean sauce ramens. The results of the post-hoc analysis showed significant differences between all groups except buldak and black bean sauce ramens. Conclusion: All three types of ramen revealed significant color change before and after immersion, and curry ramen showed the largest amount of color change among them.

A Study on Tannin Treatment of silk fabrics(II) - The effect of mordants - (견의 탄닌처리에 관한 연구(II) - 매염제의 영향을 중심으로 -)

  • In order to study the effect of mordanting on silk fabrics treated with tannin, those fabrics were treated with Al, Cu, Cr, Fe, Sn by pre and post mordanting. It was studied about color change, weighting effect, dgree of photodegradation by pre and post mordanting. The results are as fallows ; 1. On the addition of mordants into mimosa and tannic acid solution, &{\lambda}_{max}& of the former was slightly blue-shifted, on the other hand, &{\lambda}_{max}& of the latter was obviously Red-shifted. 2. In case of Cu, Cr, Pre mordanting, weighting effect were appeared. Weighting effect of silk fabrics treated with Tannic acid increased higher than mimosa by mordanting. 3. In color change, Silk fabrics treated with Mimosa and Tannic acid generally changed to red direction and fabrics treated with tannic acid changed to yellow direction by pre and post mordanting. 4. In the photodegradation, the degree of photodegradation on mordanted fabrics increased. Its degree was slack in Cu, Cr, Post mordanting. On the other hand, Al, Fe, Sn were greate. Silk fabrics treated with Mimosa and Tannic acid got inhibiting effect on photodegradation.

An Evaluation of the Repetitive Tooth Bleaching with Nonthermal Atmospheric Pressure Plasma

  • This study was undertaken to achieve a high bleaching efficacy with plasma, through longer application and reparative bleaching processes, by different shade evaluation methods. Extracted human teeth were divided into 6 groups (n=10). All teeth were treated in pairs. Low concentration of 15% carbamide peroxide (CP) was applied, with and without plasma, for 10, 20, and 30-min tooth bleaching, respectively. The bleaching procedure was repeated once daily for four days. The teeth were maintained in a moist environment provided by artificial saliva. The Vitapan Classical shade guide and Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIELAB) color system were collectively used to measure the bleaching efficacy. Color evaluation was statistically analyzed using Student t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) complemented by Tukey's test. Combining the plasma with 15% CP showed significantly greater color changes compared to bleaching without plasma (p<0.05). A high bleaching efficacy with plasma is proportional to the repetitive application and the treatment time. A 30-min application with plasma provided the best bleaching. Repetitive bleaching showed lower probability of color relapse of the bleached tooth. The color change by shade guide correlated with the changes in CIELAB color system. A value of 1 color change units (CCU) conversion factor for overall color change (${\Delta}E$) values comparisons was 3.724 values. The two measuring methods provide a more accurate correspondence of color change. The repetitive and longer application for tooth bleaching, combined with plasma, has a strong bleaching effect and produces whiter teeth.

Effect of Storage Temperature and Antioxidant Additives on the Color and Physiological Activity of Gamma Irradiated Green Tea Leaf Extract

  • Gamma irradiation was used as part of a new processing method to produce a brighter-colored and mild-flavored green tea leaf extract that retained all of its physiological activities. Dried green tea leaf was extracted with 70% ethanol and gamma irradiated at 0,5, 10, 20 kGy. Hunter color $L^{*}$- and $a^{*}$-values were increased with irradiation in a dose-dependent manner, which was a color range from dark brown to bright yellow. However, the irradiation effect gradually disappeared during 3 weeks of storage, with color reverting to that of untreated samples. There was no difference in the radical scavenging and tyrosinase inhibition effect by irradiation. Among antioxidants used, ascorbic acid was the most effective against color reversion. In contrast, cysteine was shown to protect the effect of color change with irradiation. Results indicated that enhanced color of irradiated green tea leaf extract can be effectively controlled by additives such as ascorbic acid and a low storage temperature.e.e.

The Natural Dyeing of Silk Fabric with Onion Shell (양파외피에 의한 견직물의 염색)

  • Dyeing properties of silk fabric with onion shell were studied by investigating the effect of dyeing conditions, such as concentration of onion shell, dyeing temperature, dyeing time and pH, on dye uptakes. And also the effects of mordants and mordanting methods or color change and dye uptakes were investigated. For the practical use, the various color fastness of dyed and mordanted fabric were evaluated. The color fastness was improved when Fe mordant was added.

The Effect of Tooth Whitener on the Color and Microhardness of Human Enamel in Vitro (미백제가 법랑질 명도 변화에 미세경도에 미치는 영향)

  • Human teeth vary widely in color. Practitioner and patients are concerned with preventing and correcting discolored or dark teeth to achieve and maintain stain-free, white teeth. Tooth brushing cannot alter tooth color but it can remove adhering films and stains. The esthetics of natural dentition can be improved by bleaching and this process can be applied to intrinsically and extrinsically stained teeth. The need for a brighter, more attractive smile has made rapid growth in the market for tooth whiteners. There is no doubt these products work as whiteners, at least on mild to moderate stains, but the safety of these products are unclear. In this experiment, the effect of tooth whitener application on the color and microhardness of extracted human enamel was measured. RMS, RMT and NWT were used as tooth whiteners, and tooth paste(ETQ) and hydrogen peroxide solution(HPO) were used as controls. 35 caries-free extracted human molars were embedded and polished with the exposed enamel diameter of 4 mm. The tooth whiteners and control agents were applied according to the manufacturers' instructions or clinically simulated procedures for eight weeks, and measurements were repeated every two weeks. Value(L*) difference was measured using Differential Colorimeter(Model TC-6FX, Denshoku Co., Japan), and microhardness was measured using microhardness tester(Mitsuzawa Seiki Co., Japan). The results were as follows; 1. After application of agents for eight weeks, the Vickers hardness increased significantly in the ETQ, RMS and RMT application group(p〈0.01), and that decreased significantly in NWT application group(p〈0.01), but in HPO application group there was no significant change. The change in microhardness was greatest in NWT application group(p〈0.01). 2. After application of tooth whiteners and controls for eight weeks, the value change of toothpaste application group was significantly lower than those of other agents groups(p〈0.01), and there was no significant difference in value(L*) change among tooth whitener groups(p〉0.01). 3. The application of tooth paste and paste type tooth whitener made gradual value change, but hydrogen peroxide gel type tooth whitener and hydrogen peroxide solution made rapid value change during initial application period.

Change of Wood Color of Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata D.Don) by Press Temperature and Time (라디에타 소나무재의 압밀화 온도와 시간에 따른 색상의 변화)

  • This study was estimated the change of color of compressed wood by compression temperature and time. Wood color was measured using a colorimeter and evaluated by the NBS (National Bureau of Standards) unit. As a result, the whiteness decreased with increasing compression temperature. In contrast, redness and yellowness was increased with increasing compression temperature. All of the color difference showed the 'Very Much' by NBS unit. The whiteness decreased with increasing compression time. The redness and yellowness were insignificant effect on compression temperature. In other words, the effect of compression temperature was much greater than compression time in the change of wood color.

Effect of Tannin Mordanting on Gromwell-dyed Silk Fabric (견직물의 자초 염색 시 합성탄닌의 매염 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to check color change depending on dyeing conditions when silk fabrics was dyed with gromwell and to investigate mordant effect when synthetic tannin was used as a mordant. First, when silk fabrics were dyed with gromwell, the change of color, brightness and chroma were examined by measuring K/S value, a, b value, L value and C value depending on dyeing condition. Second, color, brightness and chroma differences which appeared after mordanting with synthetic tannin were investigated and muti-functional mordanting effect was confirmed with dyeing fastness, antibiosis. As a result of color analysis of gromwell, it was proved that the main pigment of gromwell was shikonin. Color was red purple at pH 3 when silk fabrics were dyed with gromwell. But It became greenish and bluish as temperature rose and time passed by. And it grew reddish and yellowish as concentration level reached higher. The color became purple at pH 5 and purple blue at pH 7. Both at pH 5 and pH 7, it became greenish and yellowish, as temperature went up and time ran by. And it became reddish with concentration increasing. Brightness and chroma decreased with temperature and concentration increasing as well as time passing by. After mordanting with synthetic tannin, the color became less reddish at pH 3 and reddish-yellowish at pH 5 and pH 7. The brightness increased and the chroma decreased. At all pH, the color, the brightness and the chroma became similarly by synthetic tannin mordanting. Dyeing fastness of synthetic tannin mordanted fabric was higher than that of non-mordanted fabric. Especially, wet fastness at pH 3 improved from 1 grade before synthetic tannin mordanting to $3{\sim}4$ grade after tannin mordanting. Antibiosis was improved by gromwell dyeing and synthetic tannin mordanting.
