  • This paper aims to build up a RFID-automated cargo movement system in an air-cargo warehouse. In our research, we do the spectrum measurements compliant with the RFID frequency bands to observe the interferences from legacy systems in the air-cargo warehouse. To overcome the dense-reader mode (DRM) problem, we apply three novel approaches, which are the periodic transmit of a reader, the Visible RFID reader & tag, and the sensor-based RFID system. Moreover, for the tag collision issue, we implement the Adaptive Adjustable Framed Q(AAFQ) algorithm, and the demonstration on RFID tag anti-collision algorithms show that the AAFQ algorithm has highly desirable tag anti-collision performance compared to any other commercially available solutions.

  • In this study ship collision risk analysis is performed to determine the design vessel for collision impact analysis of suspension bridge. Method II in AASHTO LRFD bridge design specifications which is a more complicated probability based analysis procedure is used to select the design vessel for collision impact. From the assessment of ship collision risk for each bridge pier exposed to ship collision, the design impact lateral strength of bridge pier is determined. The analysis procedure is an iterative process in which a trial impact resistance is selected for a bridge component and a computed annual frequency of collapse(AF) is compared to the acceptance criterion, and revisions to the analysis variables are made as necessary to achieve compliance. The acceptance criterion is allocated to each pier using allocation weights based on the previous predictions. This AF allocation method is compared to the pylon concentration allocation method to obtain safety and economy in results. This method seems to be more reasonable than the pylon concentration allocation method because AF allocation by weights takes the design parameter characteristics quantitatively into consideration although the pylon concentration allocation method brings more economical results when the overestimated design collision strength of piers compared to the strength of pylon is moderately modified. The design vessel for each pier corresponding with the design impact lateral strength obtained from the ship collision risk assessment is then selected. The design impact lateral strength can vary greatly among the components of the same bridge, depending upon the waterway geometry, available water depth, bridge geometry, and vessel traffic characteristics. Therefore more researches on the allocation model of AF and the selection of design vessel are required.

  • A forward-looking automotive radar typically utilizes the frequency modulated continuous wave(FMCW) or pulsed-Doppler waveform for the Information acquisition of the target range and velocity. In order to obtain the high resolution target information, however, a narrow pulse width and wide bandwidth are inherently required, thus resulting in high peak power and high speed digital converter processing. In this paper, a stepped-frequency pulsed-Doppler(SFPD) waveform algorithm is proposed for high resolution forward looking automotive radar application. The performance of the proposed SFPD waveform technique is analyzed and compared with the conventional FMCW and PD method. Since this technique can be used for the high resolution target imaging with arbitrary range and Doppler resolution, it is expected to be useful In automotive radar target classification for the precision collision avoidance applications in the future.

  • In radio frequency identification(RFID) systems, when an RFID reader uses the same or adjacent frequency with neighbor readers, the interference between the readers may occur, which causes the reader collision and errors in tag recognition. In the previous study on RFID reader anti-collision, the techniques based on Frequency Division Mutiplex(FDM) or Time Division Multiplex(TDM) are proposed. However in these paper, the problem on the condition of RFID reader-to-reader interference considering the distance between interfering readers, frequency and operating time is not define exactly. In this paper, the interference effect is analyzed through RFID reader interference model considering the TDM and FDM, and the optimization problem is defined. To solve this, genetic-resource allocation technique is proposed. Therefore the optimal resource allocation applied RFID environment faithfully is accomplished.

  • In bluetooth system, there are two kinds of interference. One is the frequency static interference, for example 802.11 direct sequence, the interferer uses fixed frequency band. Another is frequency dynamic interference, for example other piconets or 802.11 frequency hopping, the interferer uses dynamic frequency channel and cant be estimated. In this paper we introduce a novel solution of hybrid method of Listen-Before-Talk (LBT) and Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) to address the coexistence of bluetooth and Direct Sequence of wireless local area network (WLAN). Before any bluetooth packet transmission, in the turn around time of the current slot, both the sender and receiver sense the channel whether there is any transmission going on or not. If the channel is busy, packet transmission is withdrawn until another chance. This is the LBT in Bluetooth. Because of asymmetry sense ability of WLAN and bluetooth, AFH is introduced to combat the left front-edge packet collisions. In monitor period of AFH, LBT is performed to label the channels with static interference. Then, all the labeled noisy channels are not used in the followed bluetooth frequency hopping. In this way, both the frequency dynamic and frequency static interference are effectively mitigated. We evaluate the solution through packet collision analysis and a detail realistic simulation with IP traffic. It turns out that the hybrid method can combat both the frequency dynamic and frequency static interference. The packet collision analysis shows it almost doubles the maximal system aggregate throughput. The realistic simulation shows it has the least packet loss.

  • Since impulse-radio-based ultra wideband (IR-UWB) do not use carrier frequency but use very short pulse to transmit data it sends data not continuously but discretely and this feature gives the potential to reduce collision in multi-user environment. In this paper, we analyse characteristic of IR-UWB and propose a new collision paradigm, Collision Distribution which changes collision level from packet to pulse. In Collision Distribution mechanical each node sends data with its own pulse interval in random time, distributed manner. It prevents packet drop due to packet collision. We show that Collision Distribution can reduce packet error and can provide real time packet transmission with analysis.

  • Sunrise and sunset times differ depending on location and date. Previous studies conveniently but monotonously applied day and night times set up. This research defined the daytime and nighttime while considering the time of twilight according to the date and the location of ship collision accidents. Classifying the frequency of ship collision accidents with this standard, we conducted a chi-squared test for the difference between daytime and nighttime. The frequencies of ship collision accidents according to daytime and nighttime was compared by season, month, and time, and all of them showed statistically significant differences. The highest number of daytime ship collisions was 11.6 %, in June, and nighttime collisions peaked at 13.7 %, in December. The most frequent hour for daytime ship collisions was 0700h-0800h, at 10.2 %, and nighttime collisions peaked between 0400h-0500h, at 16.9 %. It is clear that the criteria used in previous studies cited was applied without any theoretical basis and likely only for the convenience of the researchers. It was found that results depend on what criteria are applied to the same research data. This study shows that statistical analyses of marine accidents, traffic volume, and congestion density should be carried out quantitatively while considering daytime and nighttime hours for each particular location and date.

  • This paper presents the dynamic characteristics of MR impact damper for vehicle collision system. Various types of mechanism have been proposed to reduce force transmitted to the vehicle chassis and finally to protect occupants from injury. In the case of head-on collision, the bumper makes main role of isolation material for collision attenuation. In this study, the proposed bumper system consists of MR impact damper and structures. The MR impact damper utilizes MR fluid which has reversible properties with applied magnetic field. The MR fluid operates under flow mode. The bellows is used for generation of fluid flow. A mathematical model of the MR impact damper is derived incorporating with Bingham model of the MR fluid. Field dependent damping force is investigated with time and frequency domain. • This study is a study on the development of AEBS test scenarios for traffic accidents in Korea, and was compared and analyzed using the Traffic Accident Analysis Program. To ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians in traffic accidents, the number of cars equipped with ADAS is increasing rapidly at all car manufacturers in each country. For traffic accidents used in this study, the domestic traffic accident database (ACCC) produced by SAMSONG was used. Domestic traffic accidents differ from overseas traffic accidents in terms of road type, signal system, driver's seat location and number of vehicles. ACCC databases, which supplemented and reinforced these differences, built a database based on the PC-CRASH program. In the study, we analyze the types of accidents to develop comparative scenarios for each type of road and collision type of traffic accidents. When the road types of traffic accidents in Korea were divided into five types and the collision types were divided into six, it was confirmed that the most types of FRONT-SIDE crashes appeared at the intersection. It is expected that the frequency of possible traffic accidents and collision types can be predicted according to the road type in the accident database, we that it can be used as an AEBS test scenario development suitable for the domestic road environment.
