  • RFID, Radio Frequency Identification, is a technology of automated identification replacing bar-code. RFID technology has advantages that it recognizes fast and it is strong to contamination using wireless communication. However, there are difficult problems that should be solved for popularization of RFID. Among of these, tag anti-collision problem is dealed in this paper. It affected the performance of RFID system directly. This paper analyzes conventional algorithms and proposes new algorithms of tag anti-collision. The algorithm proposed was composed of appropriate properties to each phase of distribution and recognition as hybrid between ALOHA-based algorithm and QT-based algorithm. At phase of distribution, the number of tags recognizing at a frame was reduced using ALOHA-based algorithm. It addressed the delay problem because of deep depth of tree. At phase of recognition, it solved ALOHA-based chronic problem that couldn't recognize all the tags sometimes. Moreover, QTR algorithm that recognize by reversed tag IDs was adopted for the performance. The FQTR algorithm proposed in this paper showed brilliant performance as compared with convention algorithms by simulation.

  • A thermionic energy converter test station is constructed for the study of electromagnetic energy generation. Of particular interest is the frequency variations due to changes in the interelectrode gap, the electrode temperature, and the cesium vapor pressure. It is found experimentally that the most intense ratio-frequency(rf) oscillations occur at two non-overlapping regions.

  • Naval ships that are navigating always have the possibility of colliding, but there is no clear maneuvering procedure for collision avoidance, and there is a tendency to depend entirely on the intuitive judgment of the Officer Of Watch (OOW). In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey when and how to avoid collision for the OOW in a Constant Bearing, Decreasing Range (CBDR) situation wherein the naval ships encountered obstacles. Using the results of the questionnaire survey, we analyzed the CBDR situation of encountering obstacles, and how to avoid collision in day/night. The most difficult to maneuver areas were Pyeongtaek, Mokpo, and occurred mainly in narrow channels. The frequency appeared on average about once every four hours, and there were more of a large number of ships encountering situations than the 1:1 situation. The method of check of collision course confirmation was more reliable with the eye confirmation results, and priority was given to distance at closest point of approach (DCPA) and time at closest point of approach (TCPA). There was not a difference in DCPA between the give-way ship and stand-on ship, but a difference between day and night. Also, most navigators prefer to use maneuvering & shifting when avoiding collisions, and steering is 10-15°, shifting ±5knots, and the drift course was direction added stern of the obstacles to the direction of it. These results will facilitate in providing officers with standards for collision avoidance, and also apply to the development of AI and big data based unmanned ship collision avoidance algorithms.

  • For a marine bridge foundation construction, a large-circular-steel-pipe has been proposed for supporting vertical load and preventing water infiltration. However, a ship collision can adversely affect the structural stability. This paper presents a fundamental study on dynamic responses of the large-circular-steel-pipe by an impact load. In laboratory experiments, small-scaled steel pipe is installed in a soil tank. The soil height and water level are set to 23 cm and 25~70 cm, respectively. The upper part of the steel pipe is impacted using a hammer to simulate the ship collision. The dynamic responses are measured using accelerometers and strain gauges. Experimental results show that the strain decreases as the measured location is lowered. The higher frequency components appear in the impact load condition compared to the microtremor condition. However, the higher frequency components measured at the strain gauge located below the water level do not appear. For the accelerometer signal, the maximum frequency under the impact load is higher than that of the microtremor. The maximum frequency decreases as water level increases but it is larger than the maximum frequency of the microtremor. This study shows that strain gauge and accelerometer can be useful for evaluating the dynamic responses of large-circular-steel-pipes.

  • Reader collision may occur when neighboring RFID readers use the same channel at the same time. Especially when the readers are operated in dense mode, even though many channels are available, because of frequent reader collisions we can not guarantee the performance of RFID readers. Conventional solutions such as FH(Frequency Hopping) or LBT(Listen Before Talk) are not effective in this situation because they can not schedule RFID readers effectively when RFID readers are operated in multi-channel, dense reader mode, In this paper, we propose a new RFID reader anti-collision algorithm which employs LBT, random backoff before channel access, and probabilistic channel hopping at the same time. While LBT and Random backoff before channel access reduces collisions between competing readers, probabilistic channel hopping increases channel utilization by adaptively changing the hopping probability by reflecting the reader density and utilization. Simulation results shows that our algorithm outperforms conventional methods.

  • Characteristics of $TiO_2$nanoparticles controlled by precursor flow rate and reaction temperature in chemical vapor condensation process were interpreted in the view of decisive reaction factors, i.e. supersaturation ratio, concentration of vapor molecule, collision frequency and rate, and residence time, which directly affect the particle size and size distribution in CVC reactor. As results, the increases of precursor flow rate and reaction temperature induced the increase in the average sizes of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles in CVC reactor by acceleration of coagulation growth due to the increase of collision between $TiO_2$vapor molecules and particles. The effects of reaction factors on the characteristics of$TiO_2$nanoparticles were discussed with considering particle formation process in CVC reactor under given process parameters.

  • Various uncertainties involved in ionospheric conductivity estimation utilizing the electron density profile obtained from the Sondrestrom incoherent scatter radar are examined. First, we compare the conductivity which is based on raw electron density and the one based on corrected electron density that takes into account the effects of the difference between the electron and ion temperatures and the Debye length. The corrected electron density yields higher Pedersen and Hall conductivities than the raw electron density does. Second, the dependence of collision frequency model on the conductivity estimation is examined. Below 110 km conductivity does not depend significantly on collision frequency models. Above 110 km, however, the collision models affect the conductivity estimation. Third, the influence of the electron and ion temperatures on the conductivity estimation is examined. Electron and ion temperatures carrying an error of about 10% do not seem to affect significantly the conductivity estimation. Fourth, also examined is the effect of the choice of the altitude range of integration in calculating the height-integrated conductivity, conductance. It has been demonstrated that the lower and upper boundaries of the integration are quite sensitive to the estimation of the Hall and Pedersen conductances, respectively.

  • In this research, internal-mixing twin-fluid atomizer using sonic energy is designed and manufactured. We are trying to intimate high efficiency twin-fluid atomizer to obtain good liquid atomization in the low pressure region. Define of geometric form of atomizer, characteristics of spray is influenced by position, depth and height variation of cavity resonator, variation of sound intensity and resonant sound frequency with liquid flow rate. The liquid atomization is promoted by multi-stage disintegration of mixing flow of gas with liquid and the optimum condition of position and depth of cavity resonator according to sonic energy is obtained from the condition at a=2.5mm and L=2mm. The velocity distribution of droplets shows negative value due to recirculation region at the center of axial, and as the radial direction distance is far, the velocity distribution of droplets decrease slowly after having a maximum value. However velocity and SMD show nearly uniform distribution at the down stream and as result compared to Nukiyama and Tanasawa's equation. atomization of mixing flow with air and liquid dispersing from the outlet of the nozzle is promoted by the effect of collision at the cavity resonator.

  • The Istanbul Strait is one of the important waterways in the world. And its southern entrance has a highly congested local traffic. Till now there are several studies regarding how the Istanbul Strait is dangerous to navigate and how those dangers can be mitigated. But there is no study regarding local traffic which is posing great collision risk. In a certain traffic area, marine traffic safety assessment parameters are traffic volume, frequency of collision avoidance maneuver, traffic density, traffic flow and potential encounter, In this paper local traffic volume, traffic flow and potential encounter number of local traffic vessels and possibility of collision are investigated in order to find degree of danger at the southern entrance of the Istanbul Strait. Finally by utilizing those, risky areas are determined for southern entrance of the Istanbul Strait. Results have been compared to a previous study regarding risk analysis at congested areas of the Istanbul Strait (Aydogdu, 2006) and consistency of the results were presented.
