A Development of 3-D Resolution Algorithm for Aircraft Collision Avoidance

  • Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) is designed to enhance safety in aircraft operations, by reducing the incidences of mid-air collision between aircraft. The current version of TCAS provides only vertical resolution advisory to the pilots, if an aircraft's collision with another is predicted to be imminent, while efforts to include horizontal resolution advisory have been made, as well. This paper introduces a collision resolution algorithm, which includes both vertical and horizontal avoidance maneuvers of aircraft. Also, the paper compares between the performance of the proposed algorithm and that of algorithms with only vertical or horizontal avoidance maneuver of aircraft.

Collision Test between Ice Floe and Ship Transiting the Pack Ice

  • The ships transiting the Northern Sea Route (NSR) have been gradually increased so that the number of ship-ice collision accidents would be increased. The collision between ship and ice floe can lead to serious damage of hulls and decline of ship's maneuverability. In this study, collision tests that a model ship is forced to collide with disk-shaped synthetic ice floes are conducted in a towing tank. The synthetic ice floes made of polypropylene which has similar density with real ice are used. The ice load is measured by a load cell installed on the carriage rod. The ice floe's motion is measured by a motion sensor installed on the synthetic ice floe. The influences of contact conditions such as hull form and ship speed on the ship-ice collision response are investigated and discussed by measured peak force and ice floe's motion.

  • A mechanism for collision detection in general animation system is necessary to prevent the interpenetration among multiple objects. On the other hand, a dynamic simulation system which is a part of animation system simulates realistic motions using dynamics after the collision, which is called collision response. In this paper, a method for reducing the CPU time for collision detection by removing redundant calculations and object sorting is proposed. A dynamic simulation system including collision detection and response function was implemented to demonstrate the proposed methods, where the input data as elasticity, friction, gravity, object shape, external force and external torque are given by the user. The system simulates motions of multiple objects using dynamics, and generates the wireframe display.

  • In this study, a car-door-controlled collision protection system using proximity sensor is proposed and its preliminary analysis and several preliminary experiments are conducted. The proposed system has three additional sub-components on the car-door that is, a pair of extra electro-magnetic actuator that are attached to the sliding bar of the open/close car-door four-bar mechanism, a proximity sensor that would be attached to the outside surface of the door which is likely to frequently contact to the object and a driving control circuit of the whole system. A proximity sensor is used to detect object close to the car-door, the driving control circuit provides actuating power command to the electro-magnets to generate braking force to stop the swing motion of the car-door. It is verified through kinematic analysis of the four-bar car-door open/close mechanism and through experiments that the magnitude of maximum electronic magnetic force could provide the braking force enough for this application. For this purpose, an electro-magnet driving circuit is implemented and tested. And also to increase the safety of the system a time delay circuit is implemented and tested.

  • 골프채로 공을 치면 골프공은 충돌로 인하여 커다란 속도로 긴 거리를 날아간다. 본 논문에서는 골프채와 골프공이 충돌 한 후의 운동량의 크기를 구하고자 한다. 또한 골프채와 골프공의 충돌 시간과 공에 작용한 평균력을 구한다. 우리는 물체에 작용하는 충격량은 물체의 운동량의 변화화 같음을 알 수 있다. 그리고 평균력은 시간에의해 변하는 힘 대신에 어떤 물체의 실제 힘과 똑같은 충격량을 주는 일정한 힘임을 알 수 있다.

Collision Simulation of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Considering Ductile Fracture and Hydrodynamics Using Hydrodynamic Plug-in HydroQus

  • This paper intends to introduce the applicability of HydroQus to a problem of a tanker collision against a semi-submersible type floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT). HydroQus is a plug-in based on potential flow theory that generates interactive hydroforces in a commercial Finite element analysis (FEA) code Abaqus/Explicit. Frequency response analyses were conducted for a 10MW capacity FOWT to obtain hydrostatic and hydrodynamic constants. The tanker was modeled with rigid elements, while elastic-plastic elements were used for the FOWT. Mooring chains were modeled to implement station keeping ability of the FOWT. Two types of fracture models were considered: constant failure strain model and combined failure strain model HC-LN model composed of Hosford-Coulomb (HC) model & localized necking (LN) model. The damage extents were evaluated by hydroforces and failure strain models. The largest equivalent plastic strain observed in the cases where both restoring force and radiation force were considered. Stress triaxiality and damage indicator analysis showed that the application of HC-LN model was suitable. It could be stated that applications of suitable failure strain model and hydrodynamics into the collision simulations were of importance.

  • This paper deals with the inertia property-based redundancy resolution in posture control of a mobile manipulator. As a measure for the redundancy resolution of a mobile manipulator, an effective inertia at the end effector in the operational space is proposed and investigated. The reduced effective inertia has a significant effect on reducing the impulse force in collision with environment. To find a posture satisfying both the reduced inertia and joint limit constraints, we propose a combined potential function method that can deal with multiple constraints.   • In this study, the impact load on bridge by vessel collision in consideration of fender system is evaluated by numerical method. The bow of object vessel(DWT5000) is standardized, and modeled by shell elements. The main body of objective vessel is modeled by beam elements that present mass distribution and stiffness of vessel. The buoyancy effect of vessel is considered as linear spring. The two types of fender systems, such as steel and rubber are analyzed in this study. In steel fender system, the steel plates that absorb collision energy by its collapse are modeled by shell element with stiffener. The steel is material modeled elastic-plastic material. In the rubber fender system, the rubber material is modeled hyper-elastic material and the main body of fender is modeled by solid elements. The global impact responses of vessel and fender system are evaluated by explicit dynamic scheme. The results show that the magnitude of vessel collision force are depended on the material behavior of fender system. Also the values of collision load are conservative compare to the those of design codes.

돌핀방호공의 선박충돌해석 (The ship collision analysis of dolphin protection system)

  • In this study, to evaluate the collision behaviors of the navigating vessel and the dolphin protective system protecting the substructures of bridges, the numerical simulation was performed. The analysis model of vessel bow that the plastic deformations are concentrated was composed by shell elements, and the main body of vessel was modeled by beam elements to represent the mass distribution and the change of potential energy. The material model reflecting the confining condition was used for the modeling of the filling soil of dolphin system. The surrounding soil of the dolphin system was modeled as nonlinear springs. As results, it is verified that the dolphin system can adequately dissipate the kinematic energy of the collision vessel. The surrounding soil of the dolphin system is able to resist the collision force of the vessel. And the major energy dissipation mechanism of collision energy is the plastic deformation of the vessel bow and the dolphin system.

  • Separation characteristics of inorganic particles occurred during heavy rainwater were investigated in DAF (dissolved air flotation) process. In order to remove the inorganic particles effectively, the collision and flotation efficiencies were examined from a hydrodynamic point of view. Generally, the collision efficiency increased with floc size under the variation of fluid dynamic conditions including inertial force. However, more precise model should be required to analysis the collision efficiency expressed both the physical properties for inorganic particles and hydrodynamic conditions for a reactor.
