  • The purposes of this study were to investigate stress responses of senior high school students(examines) preparing for college entrance examination and to identify the relationship between stress responses and self-esteem. The subjects of this study were 261 senior high school students from three high schools located in three different Gu Seoul Korea. Data were collected from 19th to 27th march, 1998. Stress responses were measured by SOS (symptoms of stress) inventory and self- esteem was measured by Rosenberg's self-esteem scale. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results were as follows : 1. The mean SOS score of subjects was 1.22 and that showed statistically significant according to gender difference (t=-6.00, P<0.0001) and father's occupations (F=3.10, P=0.006). 2. The mean self-esteem score was 2.77 and that showed statistically significant difference according to economic status(F=3.96, P=0.02) and father's occupations (F=2.71, P=0.01). 3. There was significant negative correlation between the mean SOS score and the mean self-esteem score(r=-0.31, P=0.0001). In conclusion, the examines had very high physiological and psychological stress responses and especially female showed higher stress responses than male. For this reason, school nurses are recommended (1)to develop appropriate stress management technique, (2) to provide more intensive care for health of female examines Nursing intervention should be developed for enhancing self-esteem of examines because self-esteem is negatively correlated with SOS.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for establishing a unique admissions promotion strategy for each university and to innovate the paradigm of university admissions promotion through the examples of central universities in the practice of PR promotion based on big data analysis. To this end, prior literature related to university publicity (marketing), and recognition of prospective college students who visited the university, and database data were defined and analyzed as big data. As a result, first, the preliminary studies related to college entrance exam promotion (marketing) increased dramatically in the 2000s and 2010s as part of preparing for countermeasures against population decline in school age. Responding to the need for an admissions promotion strategy to accelerate visits to prospective college students, the database data analysis result suggested the selection and concentration of entrance exam strategies based on the university's regional and academic characteristics.

  • After a longitudinal analysis of the data on the college entrance examination of students enrolled in the Department of Chemistry Education at Gyeongnam from 2014 to 2021, the effect on the academic achievement of general chemistry according to the type of college entrance examination was studied. And the impact on the academic achievement of general chemistry according to the type of admission screening in face-to-face and non-face-to-face teaching-learning was also studied. As a result of analyzing the academic achievement of general chemistry by admission process, students admitted through occasional screening showed relatively high grades of A and B at 88.7%, and the ratio of grades of 1~3 of chemistry I in high school was high. On the other hand, in the case of students admitted through regular admission, the ratio of grades of A and B in general chemistry was very high at 94.3%, and the ratio of grades of 3~4 in chemistry I of the College Scholastic Ability Test was high. As a result of analyzing the academic achievement of general chemistry by class type and admission process, it was found that the grades of chemistry I by face-to-face classes had an effect on the academic achievement of general chemistry in non-face-to-face classes. In both admissions, the academic achievement of general chemistry by face-to-face classes was relatively higher than that of non-face-to-face-to-face classes.

  • The purposes of this study are to identify how university's entrance examination system is related to private education, and to explore how to improve the university of education entrance system in order to reduce private education costs. For these purposes, 116 teachers of senior students in high school in Daegu and Gyeongbuk and 107 pre-service teachers who had experienced the entrance of the university were surveyed in order to find out the perception of the relationship between admissions elements and private education. As a result, it is possible to concentrate more on school education by strengthening high school grades in the entrance examination. However, there was other opinion that the strengthening high school grades in the university entrance could lead to the further increase in the cost of private education. As there are big differences in the perception of the screening factors between rural areas (Gyeongsangbuk-do) and large cities (Daegu), it is necessary to introduce the entrance examination system considering the characteristics of each region. Third-year teachers in high schools argued that university admissions should reduce the rate of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and increase the rate of interviews. The results of this study suggest that the improvement of the university entrance examination system to reduce the cost of private tutoring requires securing fairness of document evaluation, strengthening interviews, and opening interview questions.

  • There have been increasing reports of mycobacterioses in man and animals caused by "atypical" or "opportunist" mycobacteria. At the presnt, "opportunist mycobacterioses" are not generally responsive to antituberculosis drugs, and therefore, create considerable problems with regard to chemotherapy and control measures. In recent years studies have been made to isolate opportunist mycobacteria from soil, house-dusts and tap-water. It seemed quite interesting to define the extent of circumstantial presence of "opportunist" mycobacteria and nocardia in the soils of school-ground of primary schools and middle-high schools. This communication is the results of pilot study to isolate and identify "opportunist" mycobacteria and nocardia from 504 soil specimens of 72 schools in Seoul City. 1. Of a total of 59 isolates from 504 soil specimens tested, 32 strains were identified as opportunist mycobacteria and 27 strains as nocardia. 2. Isolation rates of opportunist mycobacteria by the areas(of specimen collection) were as follows: 36.4% in the southern area of Han-River, 33.3% in the central area, 22.7% in the outskirt area and 16.6% in the intermediate area. There observed no apparent difference in the isolation rates both-between the areas and between primary schools and middle-high schools. However, a significant difference was noted in the isolation rates between the places of soil sampling in a given school(P<0.05), i.e., the highest was the soil of refuge heaps(15.2%), and tap-water pole area(11.1%), the school-lavatory entrance(9.7%), the school gate entrance(5.5%), and iron-bar play ground(2.7%). The soil specimens from the center of school ground and from school building entrance yielded none of mycobacterial isolates. 3. Isolation rates of nocardia by the areas were as follows: 33.3% in the central area, 31.8% in the outskirt area, 27.3% in the southern ares of Han-River and 11.1% in the intermediate area. As in the case of mycobacteral isolates, there observed no apparent differences in the isolation rates both between the areas and between primary schools and middle-high schools, but a significant difference was noted between the places of soil sampling(P<0.05), i.e., the highest was the soil of school building entrance(15.2%), and of school gate entrance(6.9%), refuge heaps(5.5,%), iron-bar play ground(4.1%), the school-lavatory entrance(2.7%) and tap-water pole area(2.7%), respectively. The soil specimens from the center of, school ground yielded none of nocardia isolates. 4. Of the 32 strains of isolated mycobacteria. 15 strains were slow-growing mycobacteria and the remaining 17 strains belonged to the rapid growers. Of the 15 slow-growers. 4 strains were M. scrofulaceum-szulgai complex, 3 M. gordonae, 4 M. terrae-triviale complex, 2 M. avium-intracellulare-xenopi complex, and 2 unclassified schotochromogens. Of the 17 strains of rapid growers, 12 were M. diernhoferi, 2 M. fortuitum-peregrinum complex, 2 M. vaccae and one M. flavescens. 5. Of the 27 strains of nocardia isolated, 11 strains were N. transvalensis, 5 N. convoluta, 5 N. erythropolis, one N. vaccinii, one N. polychromogens-paraffinae complex and 4 untypable strains of orange-pigmented nocardia spp.

  • As a number of new college students is dramatically decreasing, each college is trying to find various solutions for gathering many students and operating a school. In specialty, information such as entrance examination and matriculation status data is very important for a college to decide a direction of admission and public relations policy, and increase welfare of the school. Therefore, it is seriously needed for a school to introduce a matriculation management system that can do the effective analysis through various entrance examination and matriculation status data and decision factors of school. In this study, I developed a matriculation management system which can analyze information of applicants, successful candidates and registrants based on national framework data, and was able to analyze applicants, successful candidates, registrants by regional groups and the ratio of successful applicants against applicants and the change rate of applicants in the last 3 years. It is expected that the developed system can provide appropriate and rational information for public relations policy and operation to a college.

  • This study aims to suggest desirable directions through analyzing English test items of college entrance examinations(CEE) in Korea, China, and Japan. To achieve this, English test items of Scholastic Ability Test(SAT) in Korea were compared with those of CEE in China and Japan, and test items of TOEFL and IELTS. It was found that there were not many items for testing productive skills relatively to the tests of other countries including TOEFL and IELTS. Especially, there were integrated items for writing test in China. In case of speaking test, all the other country adopted direct ways like interview and oral test, not indirect test as in the SAT in Korea. It is suggested that there need to be included test items comprising long passages in order to measure extensive reading ability. It can be suggested that doze test be adopted for testing integrated proficiency of English.

  • To investigate the relationship between the College Entrance Examination (CEE) exams and high school teaching-learning, we conducted a questionnaire survey and collected 2439 valid questionnaires with 16000 teachers involved. This paper discusses the topic with data gathered from the survey, and statistics on CEE examinations over the past few years. The following three questions will be addressed in detail: 1. As a talent selection test for colleges, can the CEE exams single out the elite students in high school? 2. Should the testing objectives of the CEE exams match the teaching objectives in high school so as to have a positive backwash effect on high school teaching and learning? 3. How do teachers assess the CEE exams from the angles of test structure, the functions of individual item types, reforms on test difficulties, and its actual checking effects?

  • The current 7th National Mathematics Curriculum had been developed as a learner-centered curriculum and begun to apply to high school since 2002. This paper discusses issues related to the high school mathematics curriculum application into high school. The mathematics curriculum for grades 11 and 12 was developed primarily as a learner-centered one to provide five elective courses according to the needs of students based on their future occupation and attitudes. Discussion starts with the differences of the five elective courses: the three of them have dependent and sequential structure and the two are totally different with regards to their levels of difficulty and the content they span. It is claimed that the frameworks of the 2005 National Ability Test for the College Entrance and the minimal enrollment requirements of several influential colleges' admission policy make the high school mathematics education very rigid, unflexible, and anti-educational. Several suggestions to recover and imp-rove the high school mathematics education and the spirit of the 7th curriculum are presented.

  • Purpose: We have studied the problems associated with increased number of ophthalmic optics students and its effects on the supply and demand of optician. Methods: We collected data from Education Statistics, a white paper of Minister for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs, academyinfo web site and University (College) web site. Results: We forecasted an estimate for supply and demand of optician using the entrance number of ophthalmic optics. Conclusions: The numbers of produced optician are in excessive supply. The excessive supply of optician can contribute towards worsening working conditions and lower job satisfaction of an optician. Therefore this can result infrequent turn over of jobs within the same field and migration into the different field of areas. To solve these problems, we will need to act with the manpower policy of government by gathering the voices of the related optician agencies. Then expansion of job domain, improvement of quality level, the improvement of the working conditions for optician can be accomplished by the unification of university system and reduction of entrance numbers for department of ophthalmic optics.
