  • The static pressure distribution, atomization characteristics and velocity distribution of tapered nozzle swirl spray is analyzed and then compared with original swirl spray. The static pressure distribution inside the swirl spray is measured using a piezoresistive pressure transducer. Phase Doppler anemometry (PDA) is applied to measure and analyze the droplet size and velocity distribution of tapered nozzle and original swirl spray. The static pressure inside the spray shows the lower value compared to the atmospheric pressure and this pressure drop is getting attenuated as the taper angle is increased. The droplet size of tapered nozzle spray shows similar value compared to the original swirl spray at the horizontal mainstream while it shows increased value at vertical mainstream. The deteriorated atomization characteristics of tapered nozzle spray is improved by applying high fuel temperature injection without causing the spray collapse. The velocity results show that the larger portion of fuel is positioned with higher injection velocity, and the smaller portion of fuel is positioned with lower injection velocity with causing spatially non-uniform mixture distribution.

  • In this study, spray characteristics of n-heptane and propane were investigated under different injection pressure using various imaging techniques such as Mie-scattering, DBI (diffuse back-illumination), and Schlieren imaging techniques. NI compact RIO system was used to control a test injector. Spray penetration length, length-to-width ratio and number of black pixels were calculated by using MATLAB software to compare spray characteristics of each fuel. Longer spray penetration length and higher length-to-width ratio were observed in propane spray because of flash boiling caused by high saturated vapor pressure. Spray collapse occurred in propane spray due to the high plume-to-plume interaction. Moreover, rapid evaporation occurred in propane spray, so that nozzle tip wetting could not be observed. Rapid evaporation of propane also caused fewer residual droplets compared to n-heptane spray. Therefore, propane is advantageous in reducing the generation of soot emission from large droplets that are not atomized. However, additional evaluation should be conducted considering combustion efficiency and the possibility of deposits by nozzle tip icing during fuel injection.

  • Recently, the erosion due to cavitation frequently occurs on a horn-type rudder of a high-speed large container carrier. It is necessary to understand the flow characteristics around a rudder in fully wetted and cavitating flow condition, and the process of generation and collapse of cavitation for a rudder design to minimize the cavity-induced erosion. The flow characteristics around a two-dimensional hydrofoil(NACA66) are investigated through the computational method utilizing a viscous flow theory applied to a cavitation model. The computational results from the viscous flow theory are verified by the comparison with the experimental results, and are compared with those from the potential flow theory. The effects of angle of attack, Reynolds number, cavitation number, and thickness ratio on the cavitating flow are also investigated.

  • The purpose of this study is to defined the conception and characteristics of Post-Modernism and dealt with how they are expressed in costume. Major characteristics of Post-Modernism are Historicism, Pluralism, and Eclecticism and these are reflected in the costume. 1. Historicism of Post-Modernism is a trend recreate artistic symbolism which Modernism lacked in reference to historical factors of the past. It has been as a trend of restoration and an ornamental trend can be included in the category of historicism in that it restored historical ornaments. 2. Pluralism of Post-Modernism means an open-hearted attitude toward everything. In costume, it has been expressed as a trend of mixed fashion style such as ecology, street fashion and futurism, collapse and mix of genres, diversity of materials and emphasis on texture caused by assemblage, change of the use to escape from the conventional system and avant-garde. 3. Eclecticism of Post-Modernism is expressed as a blended fashion style based on the principal of de-dualism. It has several trends ; exotic trend by mixing both oriental and western culters, androgyny which is a mixed image of an and woman, and a trend to use many kinds of materials together influenced by collage which is an eclectic mode.

  • Korea achieved compressed growth through rapid industrialization. However, the housing policy of this period was driven by the provision of large scale public rental housing and redevelopment of residential areas, resulting in community collapse and social exclusion. Meanwhile, Korean society needs new housing types and management methods as housing demand varies due to low birthrate, aging, and growing numbers of single-person households. Therefore, in order to realize social integration community that solves these problems by themselves, it is necessary to plan housing that can enhance community in residential space. In this reason, the purpose of this study is to derive the characteristics of social integration plan of community housing which is supplied mainly in the metropolitan area. Accordingly, the subjects of this study were housing cases designed to enhance social integration by promoting community activation in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The results of this study are as follows: First, it is necessary to flexibly apply the type and range of community housing. Second, It is needed to have a housing plan considering various characteristics of resident community. Third, social integrated community housing requires not only physical planning, but also mechanism to operate it.

  • To study on mechanical characteristics of weathered granite masses are difficult because of undisturbanced sampling and in-situ test. Generally, pressuremeter test is widely used to investigate the behavior of weathered rock masses. However, it has many problems to get a limit pressure because of cavity collapse, membrane damage, ete. This study aims to evaluate the mechanical characteristics of weathered granite masses using in-situ pressuremeter test and numerical analysis depending on the ratio of length and diameter of the membrane(L/D=5, 8, 10, 15, 20). Test results and data are shown that strength parameters are reduced exponentially varing weathering degree, and numerical analysis results are approximately coincided with the test results. And the ratio of length and diameter of the membrane arc not affected the parameters such as modulus of pressuremeter, shear modulus, etc. But limit pressure is increased decreasing membrane length based on numerical analysis. On the other hand, increasing the membrane length, yield pressure is decreased and plastic radius is increased in the case of same weathering degree.

  • Spherical space frame structure with triangular network pattern, which has the various characteristics for the mechanic property, a funtional property, an aesthetic property and so on, has often been used as one of the most efficient space structures. It is expected that this type will be used widely in large-span structural roofs. But because this structure is made of network by combination of line elements there me many nodes therefore, the structure behavior is very complicated and there can be an overall collapse of structure by buckling phenomenon if the external force reaches a limitation. This kind of buckling is due to geometric shape, network pattern, the number of layer and so on, of structure. Therefore spherical space frame with triangle network pattern have attracted many designers and researchers attention all over the world. The number of layer of space frame is divided in to the simgle, double, multi layer. That is important element which is considered deeply in the beginning of structural design. The buckling characteristics of single-layer model and double-layer model for the spherical space frame structure with triangular network pattern are evaluated and the buckling loads of these types are compared with investigation their structural efficiency in this study.

  • To estimate the local site effects at two town fortress areas where stone parapets were collapsed during historical earthquakes, site characteristics were evaluated using borehole drillings and seismic tests and equivalent-linear site response analyses were conducted based on the shear wave velocity (Vs) profiles determined from site investigations. The study sites are categorized as site classes C and B according to the mean Vs to 30 m ranging from 500 to 850 m/s, and their site periods are distributed in short period range of 0.06 to 0.16 sec. For site class C in the study areas, the short-period (0.1-0.5 sec) and mid-period (0.4-2.0 sec) site coefficients, $F_{\alpha}$ and $F_\nu$ specified in the Korean seismic design guide, underestimate the ground motion in short-period band and overestimate the ground motion in mid-period band, respectively, due to the characteristics showing high amplification in short period range, which can result in the collapse of stone parapets having the short natural period.

  • In the present study, we investigate the flow characteristics of a paraglider canopy with leading-edge tubercles by performing force measurement and surface flow visualizations. The experiment is conducted at Re = 3.3×105 in a wind tunnel, where Re is the Reynolds number based on the mean chord length and the free-stream velocity. The canopy model with leading-edge tubercles has flow characteristics of a two-step stall, showing an earlier onset of the first stall than the canopy model without leading-edge tubercles. However, the main stall angle of the tubercled model is much larger than that of the canopy model without tubercles, resulting in a higher aerodynamic performance at high angles of attack. The delay in the main stall is ascribed to the suppression of separation bubble collapse around the wingtip at high angles of attack.

  • In offshore installations, fires cause the structure to lose its rigidity and it leads to structural integrity and stability problems. The Passive Fire Protection (PFP) system slows the transfer rate of fire heat and helps prevent the collapse of structures and fatality. Especially, intumescent epoxy coating is widely used in the offshore industry, and not only is the material cost expensive, but it also takes a lot of time and cost for construction. Several studies have been conducted on the efficient application and optimal design of the PFP system. However, the mechanical properties and the strength of the PFP material have not been considered. In addition, researches on the correlation between the thickness of PFP and the structural behavior were insufficient. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the thermal and mechanical effects of the PFP on the structure when it is applied to the structural member. In particular, it is intended to resolve the change in strength characteristics of the structural members as the thickness of the PFP increases.
