Cube-textured Ni substrates for YBCO coated conductors were fabricated by cold-rolling and annealing of Ni powder compacts. To establish the optimum sintering temperature, tensile test was performed for the Ni rod sintered at various temperatures. The Ni rods prepared at above 100$0^{\circ}C$ showed good mechanical properties due to the complete densification of the Ni rods. The Ni rods were rolled to final thickness of 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and then annealed at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for various annealing time for texture development. The texture analysis made by 2 $\theta$ scan and pole-figure showed that the cube texture was developed in a short time of a few munitues. The FWHM of in-plane and out of plane texture of the prepared Ni tapes was 8-10$^{\circ}$. The AEM surface roughness of the Ni tapes was as smooth as 3 nm.

Residual stress of sheet occurs during cold rolling and it is hard to avoid and inevitable. The residual stress in the sheet cause etching curls when it suffers peroration process. The residual stress through the thickness direction in the sheet is a function of a friction coefficient, total reduction, mil size and initial sheet thickness. To estimate the residual stress and deformation due to etching curl, FEM analysis is performed. A numerical analysis is used a ANSYS 5.6 and an elastic-plastic constitutive equations. rho simulation results indicate a distribution of residual stress.

In the present study, the effect of cold reduction ratio on the spheroidization rate of SK85 high carbon steel sheet was investigated. High carbon steel sheet fabricated by POSCO was soaked at $850^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr in a box furnace and then treated at $570^{\circ}C$ and $670^{\circ}C$ for 10 min in a salt bath furnace followed by water quenching to obtain a fine pearlite structure and coarse pearlite structure. Cold rolling was conducted on the sheets by reduction ratios of 20, 30, and 40 % and heat treatment for spheroidization was carried out at $720^{\circ}C$ for the various time intervals from 1 to 32 hrs. Area fraction of spheroidized cementite was measured with an image analyzer as a function of cold reduction ratios and duration times.

In this study, a fuzzy control algorithm was developed for the randomly irregular shape of cold-rolled strip. Currently developed fuzzy control algorithm consists of two parts: the first part calculates the changes of work and intermediate roll bender forces based on the symmetric part of the irregular strip shape, and the second part calculates the weighting factors based on the asymmetric part and modifies the pre-determined roll bender forces according to the weighting factors. As a result of this, bender froces applied at the both sides of the cold-rolled strip were different. In order to simulate the continuous shape control. fuzzy controller developed was linked with emulator which was developed based on neural network. The fuzzy controller and emulator developed simulated the cold rolling process until irregular shape converged to a tolerable range in producing uniform cross-sectional strip shape. The results obtained from the simulation were reasonable for various irregular strip shapes.
In this paper, it is proposed to produce high precision screws with a diameter of $800{\mu}m$ and a thread pitch of $200{\mu}m$ ($M0.8{\times}P0.2$) by means of a cold thread rolling process. In this part II of the study, the focus is on the production and reliability testing of the prototype $M0.8{\times}P0.2$ micro-screw. Designs for two flat dies were developed with the aid of the literature and previous studies. Process parameters during the cold thread rolling process were established through FE simulations. The simulation results showed that the threads of the micro-screw are completely formed through the rolling process. Prototype $M0.8{\times}P0.2$ micro-screw were fabricated with a high precision thread rolling machine. In order to verify the simulation results, the deformed shape and dimensions obtained from the experiment were compared with those from the simulations. Hardness and failure torque of the fabricated micro-screw were also measured. The values obtained indicate that the CAE based process design used in this paper is very appropriate for the thread rolling of micro-sized screws.
In the cold rolling mill, coil breakage that generated in rolling process makes the various types of troubles such as the degradation of productivity and the damage of equipment. Recent researches were done by the mechanical analysis such as the analysis of roll chattering or strip inclining and the prevention of breakage that detects the crack of coil. But they could cover some kind of breakages. The prediction of Coil breakage was very complicated and occurred rarely. We propose to build effective prediction modes for coil breakage in rolling process, based on data mining model. We proposed three prediction models for coil breakage: (1) decision tree based model, (2) regression based model and (3) neural network based model. To reduce model parameters, we selected important variables related to the occurrence of coil breakage from the attributes of coil setup by using the methods such as decision tree, variable selection and the choice of domain experts. We developed these prediction models and chose the best model among them using SEMMA process that proposed in SAS E-miner environment. We estimated model accuracy by scoring the prediction model with the posterior probability. We also have developed a software tool to analyze the data and generate the proposed prediction models either automatically and in a user-driven manner. It also has an effective visualization feature that is based on PCA (Principle Component Analysis).

Micro-alloyed steel or heat-treatment-free used in clean technology have been replacing for conventional quenched-and-tempered structural steels since the micro-alloyed forging steel was developed in early 1970s in Germany for saving money of heat treatment, simplified process, short delivery and good productivity. In this paper, ball stud assembled in steering system for automobile was selected to compare conventional process making heat treatment with new process using high strength micro-alloyed steel without heat treatment. The conventional process for ball stud was composed of a total of 6 steps including upsetting, forward extrusion, machining, burnishing and tread rolling with heat treatment and shot blasting. As opposed to conventional process, newly proposed process for ball stud using the clean technology without heat treatment is simplified such as forward extrusion, heading, upsetting, forming having a flange shape and tread rolling. Also net shape forming process to achieve specified process not to include machined step fur manufacturing the ball stud was applied to newly simplified process since micro-alloyed steel is difficult to be formed.
The effect of alloying elements, precipitate size, its distribution, and dislocation substructure resulted from warm rolling or cold rolling in the superplastic Al-Mg alloy system was investigated. One of the major requirements for fine structure superplasticity is that the grain size should be very small. Fine grain structure is controlled by the dislocation substructure and the dynamic recrystallization during hot or warm working. The recovery of Al-Mg base alloys was constrained resulting in relatively high dislocation density when the alloys were warm rolled. In particular, Al-Mg-Zr alloy exhibited the smallest sub-grain size among Al-Mg alloys containing Mn, Cu, Zr as a third element. The Al-Mg-Mn alloy cold rolled 80% after hot rolling showed the maximun strain rate sensitivity exponent, m, of 0.75 under strain rate of $7.1{\times}10^{-4}/s$ at $500^{\circ}C$. The elongation of the alloys was limited in spite of high m values due to large dispersoids containing appreciable amount of Fe impurities.
Effects of annealing temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties through thickness of a cold-rolled Cu-3.0Ni-0.7Si alloy were investigated in detail. The copper alloy with thickness of 3 mm was rolled to 50 % reduction at ambient temperature without lubricant and subsequently annealed for 0.5h at $200{\sim}900^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of the copper alloy after annealing was different in thickness direction depending on an amount of the shear and compressive strain introduced by rolling; the recrystallization occurred first in surface regions shear-deformed largely. The hardness distribution of the specimens annealed at $500{\sim}700^{\circ}C$ was not uniform in thickness direction due to partial recrystallization. This ununiformity of hardness corresponded well with an amount of shear strain in thickness direction. The average hardness and ultimate tensile strength showed the maximum values of 250Hv and 450MPa in specimen annealed at $400^{\circ}C$, respectively. It is considered that the complex mode of strain introduced by rolling effected directly on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the annealed specimens.

There have been a number of works on manufacturing ultrafine grained steels with average ferrite grain sizes of smaller than a few micrometers to develop beneficial high strength steels. Among microstructures in low carbon steels, lath martensite is known to be useful to produce an ultrafine grained ferrite matrix and finely globular cementite particle. Thus, severe plastic deformation and subsequent annealing at lower temperature of lath martensite would become an effective way to produce ultrafine grained steels. However, most ultrafine grained steels exhibited a total elongation of a few per cent in tensile tests. Such a defect is one of the primary factors restricting the potential applications of ultrafine grained steels. Therefore, the improvement of the strength-elongation balance is required for the application of ultrafine grained structural steels. In this study, the effect of deformation temperatures on microstructure, such as ferrite grain size and the distribution of cementite particles, and mechanical property of lath martensite steels, was investigated. Specimens were fabricated through cold rolling or warm rolling and subsequent annealing.
