Massive stars play a major role in the interstellar energy budget and the shaping of the galactic environment. The water molecule is thought to be a sensitive tracer of physical conditions and dynamics in star-forming regions because of its large abundance variations between hot and cold regions. Herschel/HIFI allows us to observe the multiple rotational transitions of H2O including the ground-state levels, and its isotopologues toward high-mass star-forming regions in different evolutionary stages. Photodissociation regions (PDRs) are also targeted to investigate the distribution of water and its chemistry. We present line profiles and maps of H2O using data from two guaranteed-time key programs "Water In Star-forming regions with Herschel" and "Herschel observations of EXtra-Ordinary Sources". We analyze the temperature and density structures using LTE and non-LTE methods. We also estimate turbulent and expansion velocities, and abundance of water in the inner and outer envelopes using the 1D radiative transfer code. Around high-mass protostars we find H2O abundances of ~10-8-10-9 for the outer envelope and ~10-4-10-5 for the inner envelope, and expansion and turbulent velocities range from 1.0 km s-1 to 2.0 km s-1. The abundances and kinematic parameters of the sources do not show clear trends with evolutionary indicators. The Herschel/HIFI mapping observations of H2O toward the Orion Bar PDR show that H2O emission peaks between the shielded dense gas and the radicals position, in agreement with the theoretical and the observational PDR structure. The derived H2O abundance is ~10-7 and peaks at the depth of AV ~8 mag from the ionization front. Together with the low ortho-to-para ratio of H2O (~1) presented by Choi et al. (2014), our results show that the chemistry of water in the Orion Bar is dominated by photodesorption and photodissociation.

Flow condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of R22, R134a, R407C, and R410A were measured on horizontal plain and microfin tubes. The experimental apparatus was composed of three main parts; a refrigerant loop, a water loop and a water/glycol loop. The test section in the refrigerant loop was made of both a plain and a microfin copper tube of 6.0∼6.16 mm inside diameter and 1.0 m length. Refrigerants were cooled by passing cold water through an annulus surrounding the test section. Tests were performed at a fixed refrigerant saturation temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$ with mass fluxes of 100, 200, and 300 kg/m2s. Test results showed that at similar mass flux the flow condensation HTCs of R134a were similar to those of R22 for both plain and microfin tubes. On the other hand, HTCs of R407C were lower than those of R22 by 4∼16% and 16∼42% for plain and microfin tubes respectively. And HTCs of R410A were similar to those of R22 for a plain tube but lower than those of R22 by 3∼9% for a microfin tube. Heat transfer enhancement factors of a microfin tube were 1.3∼1.9.
Cochlodinium polykrikoides bloom in 1995 was studied with a focus on an unusual coastal environment in the South Sea of Korea. Data on temperature, salinity, and zooplankton biomass during 1965-1998 and nutrients during 1990-1998 and chlorophyll-a during 1995-1998 were used in this study. These data were obtained from the serial oceanographic observations in Korean waters carried out by the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute. In 1995 the C. polykrikoides bloom began in the coastal area around Narodo Island in August and consequently occurred to the whole coastal area of the South and East Seas of Korea. During June-October 1995, the coastal environment was unusual compared with the long-term means during 1965-1998. In June 1995, sea surface temperature was 1-2$^{\circ}C$ warmer than in other years in all coastal areas, while salinity was high only to the east of Jeju Island. In August 1995, a strong coastal front appeared inshore of a line between Jeju and Tsushima Islands. In particular, a strong coastal front which showed the characteristics of upwelling front occurred in the coastal area around Narodo and Sorido Islands, not only because of a strong intrusion of the Tsushima Warm Current but also because of the upwelling of cold bottom water. Salinity was low in the neighboring waters of western side of Jeju Island. Nutrients and chlorophyll-a were high in the inshore area between Narodo and Sorido Islands in 1995 in contrast with the other years and areas. Zooplankton showed an unusually high abundance in the coastal area in October 1995. We conclude that the Tsushima Warm Current strongly influenced the South Sea of Korea in 1995 and created strong upwelling front bordering cold upwelled water in the coastal area around Narodo and Sorido Islands. It leads us that these physical structures introduce the favorable environment for the development of C. polykrikoides blooms. We suggest that C. polykrikoides has a bio-physical tolerance of high shear and stress and prefers frontal and upwelling relaxed areas as its habitat. We also find that nutrients were not supplied to the coastal area from the offshore where a low salinity water mass with high nutrients appeared around Jeju Island. Because the strong upwelling front protect the reach of offshore low saline water mass. The main source of nutrients was the upwelled water mass in the coastal area of Wando-Narodo-Sorido.

The distribution and abundance of euphausiids were investigated in Korean waters in 2016. Euphausiids were sampled with a Bongo net. A CTD (Sea Bird Electronics 9 plus) measured the water temperature and salinity while sampling. Mean water temperature ranged from 4.2-31.0℃. The highest temperatures occur in September and lowest temperatures in February. The mean water salinity ranged from 27.9-34.8 psu, with the highest salinities in March and lowest in September. Euphausiid species in group W consisted of four species. Among the euphausiid species, Euphausia pacifica was the dominant species with peak densities in September. The E. pacifica from group W was distributed in the bottom cold water during summer when a thermocline was formed. Five euphausiid species occurred in group S. E. pacifica and E. nana were the dominant species. In group S, E. nana was located in the warm and saline Tsushima Warm Current, a branch of the influential Kuroshio Current. Five euphausiid species occurred in group E. E. pacifica and T. longipes were the dominant species. In group E, E. pacifica and T. longipes were distributed in the deep and cold waters, these species prefer low water temperatures and perform vertical migration. The distribution of euphausiids in Korean waters were highly influenced by mass water characteristics, such as temperature and salinity.

The Yellow Sea is characterized by relatively shallow water depth, varying range of tidal action and very complex coastal geometry such as islands, bays, peninsulas, tidal flats, shoals etc. The dynamic system is controlled by tides, regional winds, river discharge, and interaction with the Kuroshio. The circulation, water mass properties and their variability in the Yellow Sea are very complicated and still far from clear understanding. In this study, an effort to improve our understanding the dynamic feature of the Yellow Sea system was conducted using numerical simulation with the ROMS model, applying climatologic forcing such as winds, heat flux and fresh water precipitation. The inter-annual variability of general circulation and thermohaline structure throughout the year has been obtained, which has been compared with observational data sets. The simulated horizontal distribution and vertical cross-sectional structures of temperature and salinity show a good agreement with the observational data indicating significantly the water masses such as Yellow Sea Warm Water, Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water, Changjiang River Diluted Water and other sporadically observed coastal waters around the Yellow Sea. The tidal effects on circulation and dynamic features such as coastal tidal fronts and coastal mixing are predominant in the Yellow Sea. Hence the tidal effects on those dynamic features are dealt in the accompanying paper (Kim et at., 2004). The ROMS model adopts curvilinear grid with horizontal resolution of 35 km and 20 vertical grid spacing confirming to relatively realistic bottom topography. The model was initialized with the LEVITUS climatologic data and forced by the monthly mean air-sea fluxes of momentum, heat and fresh water derived from COADS. On the open boundaries, climatological temperature and salinity are nudged every 20 days for data assimilation to stabilize the modeling implementation. This study demonstrates a Yellow Sea version of Atlantic Basin experiment conducted by Haidvogel et al. (2000) experiment that the ROMS simulates the dynamic variability of temperature, salinity, and velocity fields in the ocean. However the present study has been improved to deal with the large river system, open boundary nudging process and further with combination of the tidal forcing that is a significant feature in the Yellow Sea.

To improve the germination of Spiraea fritschiana seeds for mass propagation, we evaluated the effect of a range of temperatures, cold stratification periods, and gibberellic acid ($GA_3$) treatments on three germination characteristics. Final germination percentage (FGP) increased as the temperature for seed germination increased, up to $30^{\circ}C$, while the mean germination time (MGT) and the mean number of days to 30% germination ($T_{30}$) decreased when seeds were germinated at $25-30^{\circ}C$. The optimum germination temperature of S. fritschiana seeds is approximately $30^{\circ}C$ considering FGP, MGT, and $T_{30}$ together. FGP increased with the duration of cold stratification up to a period of 6 weeks, but declined after 8 weeks of cold stratification, as prolonged cold stratification can induce dormancy with a resultant decline in germination. Pretreatment with 6-8 weeks of cold stratification or soaking seeds in distilled water or $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$$GA_3$ for 24 h accelerated and increased the germination of S. fritschiana seeds, regardless of temperature. However, further study might be required to evaluate the effect of $GA_3$ concentrations lower than $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ on the promotion of germination in S. fritschiana seeds.

The vortex tube is a simple device which separates fluid stream into a cold stream and a hot stream without any chemical reaction. The process of energy separation in the vortex tube has caused a great deal of interest. Although many studies on energy separation in the vortex tube using air as the working fluid have been made so far, few experimental studies treated energy separation for incompressible fluid. So, an experimental study for the energy separation in the vortex tube using the water which is essentially an incompressible fluid is presented. When working fluid is the water, the best geometric values of nozzle area ratio and number of nozzle holes are 0.155, 6 respectively. These geometric values are showed by the similar values which are presented by compressible fluid as working fluid. But hot side mass fraction of which maximum temperature drop is happened are different from compressible fluid.

For the performance evaluation of liquid mono-propellant thruster, Vacuum Hot-fire test is necessarily required. An accurate flow measurement is one of the key parameters to the successful T&E program. This paper describes the characteristics of the coriolis flowmeter, explains the cold-flow test using simulant propellant (DIW), and presents the test results. Finally, the cold test results have been verified in comparison with the hot-fire test data.

Electrolyte matrix fabrication process can be classifed as hot pressing, tape casting, callendering, electrophoretic deposition. however, these have limits in practice. Hot pressing is cumbersome method, because of careful heating and cooling. Furthermore, the perfected tile is so fragile that it is difficult to fit in a cell. Therefore this method is not adequate for mass production of the electrolyte matrix. Using electrophoretic deposition method, a very thin matrix can be made, but many attempts of the electrolyte embeding were found to be failure. Tape casting and callendering methods are employed in most of the matrix fabrication for the present. But these methods require lots of water as a solvent, so that coating of the LiAlO sub(2) with electrolyte is difficult. Recently, hot roll milling method has been developed and the perfected matrix was proved to be free from crack. The method, however, needs a roller to make a matrix and a perfected matrix is carefully striped off from the cooled roller. Therefore, this method requires a long time due to the cooling process. The author proposes a cold rolling process. On this method, heated slurry of the LiAlO sub(2) mixed with binder, is rolled with a cold roller. The heated slurry dose not adhere to the roller, since contacted hot slurry is rapidly solidified. Therefore fabrication speed is increased, without getting rid of merits of the hot rolling process.

This paper presented the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for micro plate heat exchanger with straight channel. The metal sheets for straight channel are manufactured by chemical etching and fabricated micro plate heat exchangers by using the vacuum brazing of bonding technology. The performance experiments are performed within the Reynolds numbers range of 15$\sim$250 under the same flow rate conditions for hot and cold sides. The inlet temperature of hot and cold water are conducted in the range of $30^{\circ}C{\sim}50^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C{\sim}25^{\circ}C$, respectively. Heat transfer rate and pressure drop are evaluated by the Reynolds numbers and mass flow rates as the inlet temperature variations of the hot and cold sides. Correlations of Nusselt number and friction factor are suggested for micro plate heat exchanger with straight channel using the results of performance experiment.
