KEOP-2007 라디오존데 관측자료를 이용한 장마 특성 분석 : Part Ⅱ. 2007년 장마의 역학적 및 열역학적 특성에 관한 사례연구 (The Analysis of Changma Structure Using Radiosonde Observational Data from KEOP-2007: Part II. The Dynamic and Thermodynamic Characteristics of Changma in 2007)

  • The synoptic structures and the dynamic and thermodynamic characteristics of Changma in 2007 are investigated using the ECMWF analysis data and the radiosonde data from KEOP-2007 IOP. The enhancement of the North-Pacific High into the Korean peninsula and the retreat of the Okhotsk High are shown during the onset of Changma and the change of wind component from southwesterly to northwesterly is appeared during the end of Changma. The baroclinic atmosphere is dominant during Changma at most regions over the Korean peninsula except at Gosan and Sokcho. The quasi-barotropic atmosphere is induced at Gosan by warm air mass and Sokcho by cold air mass. Precipitation in the Korean peninsula occurs when dynamic instability is strengthened as the baroclinic and qusi-barotropic structure is weakened. An empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis is performed to find the dominant modes of variability in Changma. The first EOF explains the onset of Changma. The second EOF is related to the discrimination for existence and nonexistence of precipitation during Changma period according to the alternation of equivalent potential temperature between middle and lower atmosphere.

Overwintering Capacity Affected by Seeding Time and Method of Chinese Milk Vetch, Astragalus sinicus L., in Upland Field

  • Overwintering capacity, closely related to winter hardiness, of Chinese milk vetch planted with different sowing times and sowing practices was investigated to improve the incorporation into cropping system in Korea. The tolerance to low temperature was evaluated with $LT_50$ using leaf disc leaching method. Dry weight of CMV was reduced remarkably with delayed planting from Sep. 5 to Oct. 20. The differences in tolerance to freezing temperature were not conspicuous among CMV genotypes, however, the differences between genotype (collections at different regions) were due to the plant architecture, mainly to the leaf angle. The crouching genotype collected at central region of Korean peninsula, which showed excellent freezing tolerant, has planophile leaves. The feature of internal constituents of CMV genotypes did not show any noticeable differences with respect to the freezing tolerance which evaluated by leaf disc leaching experiment. To overcome the poor overwintering capacity, tolerant genotype should be developed by selection with considering the plant architecture. The reduction of CMV growth during overwintering period was ameliorated with furrow-sowing under late-sown condition, therefore, when the CMV is inevitably sown late after recommended time, the seeds should be sown on furrow to overcome the cold stress.

신경망과 유한요소법을 이용한 단조품의 초기 소재 형상 결정 (Determination of Initial Billet Size using The Artificial Neural Networks and The Finite Element Method for a Forged Product)

  • In the paper, we have proposed a new method to determine the initial billet for the forged products using a function approximation in the neural network. The architecture of neural network is a three-layer neural network and the back propagation algorithm is employed to train the network. By utilizing the ability of function approximation of a neural network, an optimal billet is determined by applying the nonlinear mathematical relationship between the aspect ratios in the initial billet and the final products. The amount of incomplete filling in the die is measured by the rigid-plastic finite element method. The neural network is trained with the initial billet aspect ratios and those of the unfilled volumes. After learning, the system is able to predict the filling regions which are exactly the same or slightly different to the results of finite element simulation. This new method is applied to find the optimal billet size for the plane strain rib-web product in cold forging. This would reduce the number of finite element simulation for determining the optimal billet size of forging product, further it is usefully adapted to physical modeling for the forging design.

Cross-talk between Phosphate Starvation and Other Environmental Stress Signaling Pathways in Plants

  • The maintenance of inorganic phosphate (Pi) homeostasis is essential for plant growth and yield. Plants have evolved strategies to cope with Pi starvation at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and post-translational levels, which maximizes its availability. Many transcription factors, miRNAs, and transporters participate in the Pi starvation signaling pathway where their activities are modulated by sugar and phytohormone signaling. Environmental stresses significantly affect the uptake and utilization of nutrients by plants, but their effects on the Pi starvation response remain unclear. Recently, we reported that Pi starvation signaling is affected by abiotic stresses such as salt, abscisic acid, and drought. In this review, we identified transcription factors, such as MYB, WRKY, and zinc finger transcription factors with functions in Pi starvation and other environmental stress signaling. In silico analysis of the promoter regions of Pi starvation-responsive genes, including phosphate transporters, microRNAs, and phosphate starvation-induced genes, suggest that their expression may be regulated by other environmental stresses, such as hormones, drought, cold, heat, and pathogens as well as by Pi starvation. Thus, we suggest the possibility of cross-talk between Pi starvation signaling and other environmental stress signaling pathways.

Strength estimation for FRP wrapped reinforced concrete columns

  • Fiber-Reinforced Plastics (FRP) have received significant attention for use in civil infrastructure due to their unique properties, such as the high strength-to-weight ratio and stiffness-to-weight ratio, corrosion and fatigue resistance, and tailorability. It is well known that FRP wraps increase the load-carrying capacity and the ductility of reinforced concrete columns. A number of researchers have explored their use for seismic components. The application of concern in the present research is on the use of FRP for corrosion protection of reinforced concrete columns, which is very important in cold-weather and coastal regions. More specifically, this work is intended to give practicing engineers with a more practical procedure for estimating the strength of a deficient column rehabilitated using FRP wrapped columns than those currently available. To achieve this goal, a stress-strain model for FRP wrapped concrete is proposed, which is subsequently used in the development of the moment-curvature relations for FRP wrapped reinforced concrete column sections. A comparison of the proposed stress-strain model to the test results shows good agreement. It has also been found that based on the moment-curvature relations, the balanced moment is no longer a critical moment in the interaction diagram. Besides, the enhancement in the loading capacity in terms of the interaction diagram due to the confinement provided by FRP wraps is also confirmed in this work.

  • In the cold and temperate regions of Korea the icing and ice coats on 25 kV overhead contact wire during winter is a very serious problem. This generates shocks at the mechanical interface of the collecting strips of the pantograph and the contact wire and extra electrical resistance, which may affect quality of current collection at the contact wire / collecting strips of pantograph interface. De-icing operations should be performed just before train operation to avoid the formation of another ice layer. This paper presents temperature analysis of the de-icing system which could be applied to the overhead contact wire of railways.

  • 본 연구에서는 논란의 여지가 많은 문제점을 구간별 특성 척도 분석으로 보다 명확히 하고, 매질이 물과 공기인 경우 실험을 통하여 난류 열대류 구조를 분석하여 척도분석 및 Kraichnan등의 분석을 통해 확인된 바 있는 지수법칙층의 존재를 확인하 고자 한다.

접선식 배치로내의 선회유동장에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Swirling Flow Field in the Tangentially Fired Furnace)

  • The characteristics of the flow field in the tangentially fired furnace are presented. Experiments are conducted in the simplified cold type isothermal flow model. In the measurement of flow field, a hot wire anemometer is used. The hot wire was calibrated by lookup table method. The mean velocity field and turbulence characteristics are showed with changing the nozzle angle. In the center of the model, the low speed, unstable flow region is formed. The size and position of these regions are varied with changing the nozzle angle. It can be used as fundamental data in the design of the large furnace. From the experimental results, various turbulent characteristics of swirling flow field is obtained. And the entrainment mechanism of the jet flow field is described from the distribution of the skewness and the flatness. It can be used the raw data of approximate calculation and turbulent modelling.

CANDU 압력관의 블리스터 성장 예측을 위한 유한요소 수소 확산 해석 (Finite Element Analysis of Hydrogen Concentration for Blister Growth Estimation of CANDU Pressure Tube)

  • The pressure tubes, which contain high temperature heavy water and fuel, are within the core of a CANDU nuclear reactor, and are thus subjected to high stresses, temperature gradient, and neutron flux. Further, it is well known that pressure tubes of cold-worked Zr-2.5Nb materials result in hydrogen diffusion, which create fully-hydrided regions (frequently called Blister). Thus a proper investigation of hydrogen diffusion within zirconium-alloy nuclear components, such as CANDU pressure tube and fuel channels is essential to predict the structural integrity of these components. In this respect, this paper presents numerical investigation of hydrogen diffusion to quantify the hydrogen concentration fur blister growth of CANDU pressure tube. For this purpose, coupled temperature-hydrogen diffusion analyses are performed by means of two-dimensional finite element analysis. Comparison of predicted temperature field and blister with published test data shows good agreement.

Surface Heat Flux and Oceanic Heat Advection in Sendai Bay

  • Coastal sea surface temperature (CSST) and meteorological data from January through December 1995 are used to estimate the net surface heat flux and heat content for Sendai Bay. The average annual surface heat flux in the area north of the bay is estimated to be $+35Wm^{-2}$, whereas the southwestern area is estimated to be $+56Wm^{-2}$. Therefore, the net surface heat flux shows a net gain of heat over the whole bay. The largest heat gain occurs near Matsukawaura, where the strong Kuroshio/Oyashio interaction produces anomalously cold SST and wind is more moderate than in other regions of Sendai Bay over most of the year. The lowest heat gain occurs around Tashiro Island, where the temperature difference between air and sea surface is lower and wind is stronger. The heat budget shows that both surface forcing and horizontal advection are potentially important contributors to the seasonal evolution of CSST in the bay. From the A VHRR and SeaWiFS data, it is found that offshore conditions between the bay and Eno Island are different due to the presence of the Ojika Peninsula. It is also shown that the temporal behaviors of SSTs in the bay are closely connected with the air-sea heat flux and offshore conditions.
