At Wire Rod Mill Plant, wire is made of the billet produced at continuous casting machine, or rolled bloom produced at billeting mill, and the product can be classified of wire of 5.5${\Phi}$ and bar in coil of 14∼42${\Phi}$ in diameter(bar in coil will be referred to as coil as below). At present, wire is produced at POSCO No.1, 2, 3 WRM, coil at garret line of No. 2 WRM. Head and tail of coil are properly cut and treated to scrap to fulfill the customer's satisfaction. This above cutting is done off line, and small size coil can be cut manually with clipper, large size coil with hydraulic cutter. Nowadays, it is being investigated to cut automatically in line with trimming shear after passing mill stand. At the moment, Because the coil produced at the garret line of No.2 WRM is hot 400∼600$^{\circ}C$ and trimming is done manually with cutter, there are always interference from manual operation or safety problem of bad working condition. Not only because of the diversity of the coil size 14∼42${\Phi}$ in diameter, but because of the rolling speed 2.5∼22m/sec, it is required to be equipped with several trimming shear. But this can be accomplished with only one shear installed proper place at this paper.
When ironwork, especially steel roll coil, is transported to customers, land transportation and sea transportation are usually used. To transport steel roll coil fast and safe without damaging it, it is necessary that the steel roll coil has to be in stable condition. These days, apitong, which is all imported from overseas, is being used to support the steel roll coil, but because of apitong's rigidity, it damages the coil and when the coil is damaged, it is hard to fix. Due to the fact that recovering damage of the coil is almost impossible, we have to find the new type of dunnage that can substitute the apitong. In this paper, the arrays and the kinds of reinforcements, and rectangular type and trapezoid of dunnage will be talked about. The phenomenon of rolling and the impact when the carrier start moving and stop will be talked about as well. Therefore, we are going to develop a dunnage that does not damage ironwork and has better recovery and softness than existing apitong dunnage.
A novel method to implement a birdcage-type receiving coil sensor for use in a magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) system has been demonstrated employing a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) fabrication technique. Unlike the conventional methods, the two-dimensional shape of the coil sensor is first implemented as a FPCB and then it is attached to the surface of a cylindrical supporting structure to implement the three-dimensional birdcage-type coil sensor. The proposed method is very effective to implement object-specific MRI coil sensors especially for small animal measurements in research and preclinical applications since the existing well-developed FPCB-based techniques can easily meet the requirements on accuracies and costs during coil implement process. The performances of the coil sensor verified through $^1H$ 1.5T MRI measurements for small animals and it showed excellent characteristics by providing a high spatial precision and a high signal-to-noise ratio.
To develop a stable and compact small-sized superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system, which provides electric power with high quality to sensitive electric loads, we fabricated a SMES coil and tested it. Because such a large-sized superconducting coil quenches far away from its critical current, the recovery current is frequently used as a stability criterion in the coil fabrication. Therefore, we first investigated the recovery current characteristics of the large current conductor, which was used in our SMES coil fabrication. The test results indicate that the recovery currents measured in the conductor are nearly identical to those based on the single wire. This implies that the recovery current is affected by the conductor's cooling condition rather than its size and current capacity. In the SMES coil test the first quench occurred at 1250 A, which is equivalent to the stored energy of about 2 MJ. It corresponds to the quench current density of about $130A/mm^2$ This value is much higher in comparison with that reported in the other work. In addition, the first quench current of the coil agrees well with the measured recovery current of the conductor having similar cooling condition with it. This means that to determine the recovery current of a conductor is, first of all, important in the design and fabrication of a large-sized superconducting coil.
A gasoline engine automobile uses high voltage generation of the ignition coil, igniting and burning mixed fuel in the combustion chamber, which drives the engine. When the electronic control unit intermits a current supplied to the power transistor, counter electromotive force with a low voltage is generated by self induction action in the ignition primary coil and a high voltage is induced by mutual induction action with the primary ignition coil in the second ignition coil. The high voltage is supplied to the ignition plug in the combustion chamber, causing a spark, igniting the compressed mixed fuel. If a very small defect occurs inside the insulating material when a voltage is applied in said ignition coil, the performance of the insulation material will get worse and breakdown by a partial discharge of corona discharge. Thus, in this experiment, we are to contribute to improve the performance and ensure the reliability of the ignition coil by investigating partial discharge characteristics according to the change of voltage and temperature when a voltage is applied to the specimen of the epoxy molding ignition coil.
For electromagnetic forming(EMF) the most important feature is a forming coil which creates the electromagnetic force(Lorentz force), using current density and a magnetic field. Most previous papers have concentrated on the final configuration of the blank or the efficiency of EMF process. Studies focused on the design parameters affected by the forming coil performance have not been conducted. In order to design a suitable forming coil for an object, the current study uses LS-DYNA EM-Module to not only optimize the coil but also to examine the effect of coil performance. By this method a suitable forming coil was made and tested to determine whether or not good formability was achieved in a free bulge test Numerical analysis was also used. The workpiece was Al 1100-O with a thickness of 1.27mm and the coil was made from copper CW004A, which has good electrical conductivity and is suitable for electrical components.
This paper presents the operation principle and design rule of the Rogowski coil which can measure the transient current and describes the calibration and application experimental results for performance evaluation. It is obtained that the response curves of the Robowski coil with the turns of 300 and the passive integrator to sinusoidal input give a good linearity up to the frequency of 500 [kHz] and the current measurement system gaving the Rogowski coil is the frequency bandwidth of 40 [Hz]~700 [kHz]. As an application experiment for the fabricated modeling power transmission line, the impulse current, which limitates the direct lightning return stroke to overhead ground wire, is measured by the Rogowski coil and its fast Fourier transformation is carried out. The equivalent circuit of the Rogowski coil considering the stray capacitances is proposed, and the theoretical analysis is in good agreement with the measurement results. Also, it is found that for high frequency domain the stray capacitance such as a distributed capacitance to the shield and the capacitance between windings of coil should be considered in designing the Rogowski coils since the resonance originates from the stray capacitance and the self-inductance of the Rogowski coil.
Bridcage RF coil is one of the most widely used RF coils in MRI. In order to use birdcage RF coils in open MRI systems, an open tructured birdcage RF coil has been investigated. By opening the ring structure of an original birdcage RF coil and driving the coil at two opening ends, the original birdcage RF coil can be modified to an open structured coil. In order to improve magnetic field uniformity of the open birdcage RF coil, driving voltage phases at the two opening ends can be controlled to be in-phase or out-of-phase each other. Operating frequency of the open birdcage RF coil has been theoretically derived, and the theoretical derivation has been verified by experiments.
Helical magneto-cumulative generators(MCGs) are devices which convert explosive energy into electromagnetic energy. The electromagnetic energy supplied from an external circuit is amplified by an explosively driven metal conductor mounted at the center of a helical coil compressing magnetic flux between the conductor and the coil. To optimize the coil design, output properties of small-size helical MCGs were measured while varying design parameters; the number of coil sections, length of the sections, pitch in the sections, and type of copper wire. Dimensions of the coil were kept constant, 50 mm in diameter and 200 mm in length. The coil was fabricated by using enamel-coated copper wire of 1 mm in diameter. The highest energy amplification ratio and figure of merit were 52.5 and 0.81, respectively. from an helical MCG with initial inductance of 63.7 $\mu$H at initial energy of 0.152 kJ Based on the experimental and calculated results, empirical formulas capable of optimizing coil designs were derived. By using these formulas, pitch in each coil section can be obtained at an arbitrary inductive load for high energy amplification ratio and figure of merit.
Solenoid coil is one of the commonly used one in superconducting power machines because it can produce uniform magnetic field at the center of the coil. Most of the AC loss in a solenoid coil is magnetization loss which is generated by the perpendicular magnetic field. This paper compares the electrical characteristics of two solenoid coils made of YBCO wire and BSCCO wire. We made and tested the BSCCO solenoid coil and YBCO solenoid coil which had the same number of turns and inner diameter. Number of turns and inner diameter of both coils were 30 turns and 10cm, respectively. AC loss of both coils were calculated by using the finite element method. Result shows that AC loss of YBCO coil was about 1/7 of that of the BSCCO coil when the current was 40A.
