Effect of spatial variability of concrete materials on the uncertain thermodynamic properties of shaft lining structure

  • The thermodynamic properties of shaft lining concrete (SLC) are important evidence for the design and construction, and the spatial variability of concrete materials can directly affect the stochastic thermal analysis of the concrete structures. In this work, an array of field experiments of the concrete materials are carried out, and the statistical characteristics of thermophysical parameters of SLC are obtained. The coefficient of variation (COV) and scale of fluctuation (SOF) of uncertain thermophysical parameters are estimated. A three-dimensional (3-D) stochastic thermal model of concrete materials with heat conduction and hydration heat is proposed, and the uncertain thermodynamic properties of SLC are computed by the self-compiled program. Model validation with the experimental and numerical temperatures is also presented. According to the relationship between autocorrelation functions distance (ACD) and SOF for the five theoretical autocorrelation functions (ACFs), the effects of the ACF, COV and ACD of concrete materials on the uncertain thermodynamic properties of SLC are analyzed. The results show that the spatial variability of concrete materials is subsistent. The average temperatures and standard deviation (SD) of inner SLC are the lowest while the outer SLC is the highest. The effects of five 3-D ACFs of concrete materials on uncertain thermodynamic properties of SLC are insignificant. The larger the COV of concrete materials is, the larger the SD of SLC will be. On the contrary, the longer the ACD of concrete materials is, the smaller the SD of SLC will be. The SD of temperature of SLC increases first and then decreases. This study can provide a reliable reference for the thermodynamic properties of SLC considering spatial variability of concrete materials.

간 초음파 영상에서의 스페클 노이즈 제거를 위한 필터들의 비교 평가 (Comparative Evaluation of Filters for Speckle Noise Reduction in a Clinical Liver Ultrasound Image)

  • This study aimed to compare filters for reducing speckle noise in ultrasound images using clinical liver images. We acquired the clinical liver ultrasound images, and noisy images were obtained by adding 0.01, 0.05, 0.10, and 0.50 intensity levels of speckle noise to the liver images. The Wiener filter, median modified Wiener filter, gamma filter, and Lee filter were designed for the noisy images by setting window sizes at 3×3, 5×5, and 7×7. The coefficient of variation (COV) and contrast to noise ratio (CNR) were calculated to evaluate noise reduction and various filters. Moreover, the filter with the highest image quality was selected and quantitatively compared to a noisy image. As a result, COV and CNR showed the noise improved result when the Lee filter was applied. Furthermore, the Lee filter image with a window size of 7×7 was noted to possess approximately a minimum of 1.28 to a maximum of 3.38 times better COV and a minimum of 2.18 to a maximum of 5.50 times better CNR than the noisy image. In conclusion, we confirmed that the Lee filter was effective in reducing speckle noise and proved that an appropriate window size needs to be set considering blurring.

Feasibility Study of Improved Patch Group Prior Based Denoising (PGPD) Technique with Medical Ultrasound Imaging System

  • The purpose of this study was to quantitatively evaluate image quality using intensity profile, coefficient of variation (COV), and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) with respect to noise reduction techniques in the ultrasound images. For that purpose, we compared with the median filter, Rudin-Osher-Fatemi (ROF), Anscombe and proposed patch group prior based denoising (PGPD) techniques. To evaluate image quality, the Shepp-Logan phantom and the ultrasound image were acquired using simulation and experiment, respectively. According to the results, the difference of intensity profile using PGPD technique is lowest compared with original Shepp-Logan phantom. In simulation, the measured COV was 0.249, 0.198, 0.198, 0.177, and 0.080 using noisy, median, ROF, Anscombe and PGPD technique, respectively. Also, in experimental image, the measured COV was 0.245, 0.230, 0.231, 0.242 and 0.187 using noisy, median, ROF, Anscombe and PGPD technique, respectively. Especially, when we used PGPD technique, the PSNR has highest value in both simulation and experiment. In this study, we performed simulation and experiment study to compare various denoising techniques in the ultrasound image. We can expect the PGPD technique to improve in medical diagnosis with excellent noise reduction.

자기공명분광에서 비균질 자장보정에 관한 평가 (Evaluations of Inhomogeneous Shimming in $^1$H MR Spectroscopy)

  • 본 연구에서는 양성자 자기공명분광법을 이용하여 대사물질의 양적 비율 산출시 비균질한 자장보정의 영향을 정량평가하였다. 점분해분광법과 자극반향 획득법을 사용하여 대사비율의 변화상수를 전신 1.5T 자기공명장비, 기존 분석방법에 의해 평가하였다. 통게학적 분석방법으로 선형계측방법을 사용하여 P d값을 산출하였다. 결과로서 N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/ creatine (Cr)과 NAA/ choline (Cho) 비율은 긴 TE와 짧은 TE 값에 대해 낮은 COV 값은 나타낸 반면 Cho/Cr과 Cr/Cho 비율은 높은 COV 값을 나타냈다. NAA/Cr과 Cho/Cr 그리고 NAA/Cho과 Cr/Cho 비율은 긴 TE와 짧은 TE 값에 대해 상당한 긴밀한 P값을 나타냈다. (P < 0.0001 and P < 0.0001; P = 0.015 and P = 0.005). 반면 Cho/NAA과 Cr/NAA은 통게Gkr적 유의성이 발견되지 않았다. (P = 0.159; P = 0.910). 본 연구 결과에 의해서 NAA/Cr과 NAA/Cho 비율은 자기공명분광 비율산출에서 자기보정에 관계없이 가장 유용한 방법으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 Cr과 Cho는 정확한 정량측정시 가장 유용한 대사물질로 나타났다.

  • 본 연구는 중밀도섬유판(MDF)의보드두께에 따른 수평밀도분포(HDD: horizontal density distribution)를 조사하기 위해 수행하였다. 생산공장에서 제조된 보드두께가 다른 5 종류 즉 2 mm, 4.5 mm, 9 mm, 18 mm 및 30 mm의 원판을 두 가지 다른 시편크기 즉 $500{\times}500\;mm$$120{\times}120\;mm$로 제작하여 수평밀도분포를 측정하였다. 전체적으로MDF의 밀도는 보드두께가 증가할수록 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 가장 얇은 보드두께의 MDF가 가장높은 밀도를 나타내었다. 수평밀도분포의 변이는 작은 크기 즉 $120{\times}120\;mm$의 시편에서 큰 차이를 보여 MDF의 보드두께가 수평밀도분포에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며 보드두께가 클수록 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 또 보드두께가 적을수록 수평밀도분포의 밀도분포는 컸으나 보드두께가 클수록 밀도범위가 좁게 나타났다. 수평밀도분포의 변이계수(COV)는 보드두께가 증가함에 따라 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 요약하면 MDF 보드두께는 수평밀도분포에 매우 큰 영향을 미치며시편의 크기 또한 상당한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Simplified Design Equation of Lap Splice Length in Compression

  • With the emergence of ultra-high strength of concrete, the compression lap splice has become an important area of interest. According to ACI 318-08, a compression splice can be longer than a tension splice when high-strength concrete is used. By reevaluating the test results of compression splices and performing regression analysis, a simplified design equation for splice length in compression was developed based on the basic form of design equations for development/splice lengths of deformed bars and hooks in tension. A simple linear relation between $l_s/d_b$ and $f_{sc}\sqrt{f'_c}$ was assumed, and yields good values for the correlation coefficient and the mean and the COV (coefficient of variation) of the ratios of tests to predictions of splice strengths in compression. By including the 5% fractile coefficient of 0.83, a design equation for splice length in compression was developed. The splice length calculated using the proposed equation has a reliability that is equivalent to other provisions for reinforcing bars.

  • 본 연구의 주목적은 마그네슘합금의 피로균열성장거동을 지배하는 파라미터들의 확률론적 특성을 규명하는 것이다. 피로균열전파실험은 AZ31 마그네슘합금의 CT 시편을 이용하여 통계적으로 수행하였으며, 시편두께, 하중비, 최대하중 등의 여러 가지 실험조건으로 실온에서 진행하였다. 이 실험을 통하여 획득한 통계적 피로 데이터를 이용하여 피로거동 파라미터의 확률적 변동성 해석과 함께 확률분포 적합성을 고찰하였다. 균열성장속도계수는 확률적으로 매우 큰 변동성을 나타내는 파라미터로 밝혀졌으며, 반면에 균열성장속도지수는 매우 작은 변동성을 나타냄으로써 재료상수로 볼 수 있을 것이다. 피로거동 파라미터인 균열성장속도계수와 균열성장속도지수에 가장 적합한 확률분포는 3-파라미터 Weibull 분포이며, 2-파라미터 Weibull 분포는 균열성장속도계수의 경우에만 양호한 적합성을 나타낸다는 것을 규명하였다.

PDA 밸브가 SI 엔진의 연소특성에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of the Effect of PDA valve on the Combustion Characteristics of the Spark Ignition Engine)

  • The Swirl is one of the important parameters that effects the characteristics of combustion. PDA valve has been developed to satisfy two requirements of achieving sufficient swirl generation for improving the combustion and still maintaining high volumetric efficiency. This paper presents the experimental results of the effect of PDA valve on characteristics of combustion in single cylinder spark ignition engine. As a result, the combustion stability can be greatly improved by PDA valve. The data from present study are available for design of engine as the basic data.

알루미늄합금 보강판의 압축 최종강도 설계식의 비교연구 (A Benchmark study on ultimate strength formulations of the aluminium stiffened panels under axial compression)

  • The aim of a benchmark study is carried out nine methods are employed for ULS analysis which implicitly predict the ultimate strength of aluminium stiffened panels under axial compression. For this purpose, DNV PULS, experimental and numerical data on the ultimate strength of panels were collected. Comparison of these experimental / numerical, DNV PULS / numerical, results with theoretical solutions by the candidate methods is performed. Also it's compared that ALPS/ULSAP program is based on closed-form formula for the ULS of plates and grillages under axial compression. It is considered that ALPS/ULSAP methodology provides quite accurate and reasonable ULS calculations by a comparison with more refined FEA. Comparison of these experimental data, numerical, computational software results with the simplified solutions obtained by the candidate methods is then performed. The model uncertainties associated with the candidate methods are studied in terms of mean bias and COV (i.e., coefficient of variation) against experiments and numerical solutions, and the relative performance of the various methods is discussed.

The Effect of Fuel Injection Timing on the Combustion and Emission Characteristics of a Natural Gas Fueled Engine at Part Loads

  • For a sequential port fuel injection natural gas engine, its combustion and emission characteristics at low loads are crucial to meet light duty vehicle emission regulations. Fuel injection timing is an important parameter related to the mixture formation in the cylinder. Its effect on the combustion and emission characteristics of a natural gas engine were investigated at 0.2 MPa brake mean effective pressure (BMEP)/2000 rpm and 0.26 MPa BMEP/1500 rpm. The results show that early fuel injection timing is beneficial to the reduction of the coefficient of variation (COV) of indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) under lean burn conditions and to extending the lean burn limits at the given loads. When relative air/fuel ratio is over 1.3, fuel injection timing has a relatively large effect on engine.out emissions. The levels of NOx emissions are more sensitive to the fuel injection timing at 0.26 MPa BMEP/1500 rpm. An early fuel injection timing under lean burn conditions can be used to control engine out NOx emissions.
