Writer Verification Using Spatial Domain Features under Different Ink Width Conditions

  • In this paper, we present a comparative study of spatial domain features for writer identification and verification with different ink width conditions. The existing methods give high error rates, when comparing two handwritten images with different pen types. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to design the feature with different ink width conditions. To address this problem, contour based features were extracted using a chain code method. To improve accuracy at higher levels, we considered histograms of chain code and variance in bins of histogram of chain code as features to discriminate handwriting samples. The system was trained and tested for 1,000 writers with two samples using different writing instruments. The feature performance is tested on our newly created dataset of 4,000 samples. The experimental results show that the histogram of chain code feature is good compared to other methods with false acceptance rate of 11.67%, false rejection rate of 36.70%, average error rates of 24.18%, and average verification accuracy of 75.89% on our new dataset. We also studied the effect of amount of text and dataset size on verification accuracy.

  • 본 논문은 코드레이트가 R, 에러 정정 능력이 t일때, R>1/t를 만족하는 비이진 코드의 디코더 설계에 관한 연구이다. 에러 트래핑 디코딩 방식으로 설계하기 위해 카버링 단항식 개념을 도입하였으며, 실제 이를 이용하여 (15, 11) Reed-Solomon코드의 디코더를 구현하였다. 이 디코더 시스템은 Galois Field 곱셈 및 나눗셈 회로를 필요로 하지 않으므로 간단히 구성할 수 있었으며, 마이크로 컴퓨터를 이용하여 실험하였다. 본 연구의 결과로서, 이 디코더는 하나의 코드 위드를 디코딩하는데 60클럭이 소요되었으며 2개의 심볼 에러와 8개의 이진 버스트 에러를 정정할 수 있으며, 성능을 채널 에러 확률이 $5{\times}10^-4$~$5{\times}10^-5$정도일 때 가장 효율적임을 알 수 있었다.

Code Combining Cooperative Diversity in Long-haul Transmission of Cluster based Wireless Sensor Networks

  • A simple modification of well known Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol is proposed to exploit cooperative diversity. Instead of selecting a single cluster-head, we propose M cluster-heads in each cluster to obtain a diversity of order M. The cluster-heads gather data from all the sensor nodes within the cluster using same technique as LEACH. Cluster-heads transmit gathered data cooperatively towards the destination or higher order cluster-head. We propose a code combining based cooperative diversity protocol which is similar to coded cooperation that maximizes the performance of the proposed cooperative LEACH protocol. The implementation of the proposed cooperative strategy is analyzed. We develop the upper bounds on bit error rate (BER) and frame error rate (FER) for our proposal. Space time block codes (STBC) are also a suitable candidate for our proposal. In this paper, we argue that the STBC performs worse than the code combining cooperation.

주 시각피질에서의 단순세포 수용영역 형성에 대한 성긴 집단부호 모델을 이용한 얼굴이식 (Face recognition using a sparse population coding model for receptive field formation of the simple cells in the primary visual cortex)

  • In this paper, we present a method that can recognize face images by use of a sparse population code that is a learning model about a receptive fields of the simple cells in the primary visual cortex. Twenty front-view facial images form twenty persons were used for the training process, and 200 varied facial images, 20 per person, were used for test. The correct recognition rate was 100% for only the front-view test facial images, which include the images either with spectacles or of various expressions, while it was 90% in average for the total input images that include rotated faces. We analyzed the effect of nonlinear functon that determine the sparseness, and compared recognition rate using the sparese population code with that using eigenvectors (eigenfaces), which is compact code that makes contrast with the sparse population code.

  • 본 논문에서는 블록 채널 부호 계열에서 다중 오류정정 능력을 갖는 BCH Encoder를 FPGA로 구현한 논문이다. 또한 부호율의 변경이 가능하게 하여 다양화 부호 율에 따른 부호를 생성할 수 있게 하였다. 본 논문에서는 FPGA 구현을 위해 Matlab을 이용하여 시뮬레이션을 하였고, 이를 HDL로 설계하고, 동시에 Xilinx사의 System Generator를 사용하여 구현하였고, Timming Analysis와 Resource estimation도 하였다.

Space-Time Block Coding Techniques for MIMO 2×2 System using Walsh-Hadamard Codes

  • Herein, a new space-time block coding technique is proposed for a MIMO 2 × 2 multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) system to minimize the bit error rate (BER) in Rayleigh fading channels with reduced decoding complexity using ZF and MMSE linear detection techniques. The main objective is to improve the service quality of wireless communication systems and optimize the number of antennas used in base stations and terminals. The idea is to exploit the correlation product technique between both information symbols to transmit per space-time block code and their own orthogonal Walsh-Hadamard sequences to ensure orthogonality between both symbol vectors and create a full-rate orthogonal STBC code. Using 16 quadrature amplitude modulation and the quasi-static Rayleigh channel model in the MATLAB environment, the simulation results show that the proposed space-time block code performs better than the Alamouti code in terms of BER performance in the 2 × 2 MIMO system for both cases of linear decoding ZF and MMSE.

픽셀 방향코드와 룩업테이블 분류기를 이용한 얼굴 검출 (Face Detection Using Pixel Direction Code and Look-Up Table Classifier)

  • Face detection is essential to the full automation of face image processing application system such as face recognition, facial expression recognition, age estimation and gender identification. It is found that local image features which includes Haar-like, LBP, and MCT and the Adaboost algorithm for classifier combination are very effective for real time face detection. In this paper, we present a face detection method using local pixel direction code(PDC) feature and lookup table classifiers. The proposed PDC feature is much more effective to dectect the faces than the existing local binary structural features such as MCT and LBP. We found that our method's classification rate as well as detection rate under equal false positive rate are higher than conventional one.

  • The Multi-Code CDMA systems that are proposed as an effective transmission methodology in the IMT-2000 systems allow higher rate services under the IS-95 CDMA infrastructure. The Multi-Code CDMA systems convert the higher rate data into the lower rate by serial to parallel operation and spread the converted data streams by the multiple walsh codes, and its mobile receiver needs multiple walsh generators and data correlators to demodulate simultaneously multiple walsh code channels. Therefore, the number of data correlators is increased as the number of traffic channels increases. In this paper, we proposed the new structure of the data correlators using walsh overlay coding, the shared accumulator, and FWHT(Fast Walsh Hadamard Transform) algorithm for reducing the bottle-neck effect resulting the increase of the number of data correlators.

Construction of Multiple-Rate Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes via the Hyperplane Decomposing

  • This paper presents an approach to the construction of multiple-rate quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. Parity-check matrices of the proposed codes consist of $q{\times}q$ square submatrices. The block rows and block columns of the parity-check matrix correspond to the hyperplanes (${\mu}$-fiats) and points in Euclidean geometries, respectively. By decomposing the ${\mu}$-fiats, we obtain LDPC codes of different code rates and a constant code length. The code performance is investigated in term of the bit error rate and compared with those of LDPC codes given in IEEE standards. Simulation results show that our codes perform very well and have low error floors over the additive white Gaussian noise channel.

유사 직교 부호 기반 이중 대역 Guardian 모뎀의 물리계층 설계 (Physical Layer Design of Dual-Band Guardian Modem based on Quasi-Orthogonal Code)

  • In this paper, we design the physical layer of Guardian modem for wireless public networks. The physical layer is composed of a dual-band RF (Radio Frequency) transceiver and a baseband-processor with quasi-orthogonal codes. The 2.4/5GHz dual-band RF transceiver can overcome the communication difficulty of dense 2.4GHz band for wireless public environment. Also the quasi-orthogonal code can reduce the required ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) design area. Finally, we analyze the performance of the developed system in viewpoint of data rate, BER (Bit Error Rate), PER (Packet Error Rate). Moreover we verify the performance of the dual-band RF communication.
