The recent surge in night walkers and pedestrian traffic accidents has led to an increased interest in retro-reflection-based products, leading to several studies on retro-reflection. Nonetheless, achieving high durability and dispersibility of retro-reflective glass beads in viscous polyurethane coating resin remains challenging. To address this issue, this study conduct to functionalize the surface of glass beads for covalent conjugation to coating resin to enhance their dispersibility and durability in the coating resin. The study evaluated the dispersibility, chemical composition, and retro-reflection properties of the functionalized glass beads and coating resin. The results showed that the functionalized glass beads conjugated to the polyurethane coating resin and exhibited excellent dispersibility, high durability, and maintained retro-reflection efficiency.
Characteristics of polyaniline anti-corrosive coatings with various primer coating resins(epoxy resin, urethane resin, and others) and top coating resins(epoxy and acrylic urethane resins) were investigated through adhesion, acid resistance, alkaline resistance, water resistance, and anti-corrosion tests. As a result, the anti-corrosive properties of the prepared coatings using polyaniline varied with the types of primer and top coating resins. In this condition, the properties of adhesion, chemical resistance, and water resistance were found to be very satisfactory when using emeraldine base (EB) of polyaniline blended with single-packaged urethane and acrylic urethane resins as the primer coatings, and using acrylic urethane resin as the top coatings. Also, the anti-corrosive function of these anti-corrosive coatings was well preserved for 1000 hr in the salt spray experiment.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of nano-structured alumina surface coating on shear bond strength between Y-TZP ceramic and various dual-cured resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 90 disk-shaped zirconia specimens (HASS CO., Gangneung, Korea) were divided into three groups by surface treatment method: (1) airborne particle abrasion, (2) tribochemicalsilica coating, and (3) nano-structured alumina coating. Each group was categorized into three subgroups of ten specimens and bonded with three different types of dual-cured resin cements. After thermocycling, shear bond strength was measured and failure modes were observed through FE-SEM. Two-way ANOVA and the Tukey's HSD test were performed to determine the effects of surface treatment method and type of cement on bond strength (P<.05). To confirm the correlation of surface treatment and failure mode, the Chi-square test was used. RESULTS. Groups treated with the nano-structured alumina coating showed significantly higher shear bond strength compared to other groups treated with airborne particle abrasion or tribochemical silica coating. Clearfil SA Luting showed a significantly higher shear bond strength compared to RelyX ARC and RelyX Unicem. The cohesive failure mode was observed to be dominant in the groups treated with nano-structured alumina coating, while the adhesive failure mode was prevalent in the groups treated with either airborne particle abrasion or tribochemical silica coating. CONCLUSION. Nano-structured alumina coating is an effective zirconia surface treatment method for enhancing the bond strength between Y-TZP ceramic and various dual-cured resin cements.
The objectives of this paper were to measure the bond strengths of reinforced concrete in which the steel rods were coated with five different kinds of anticorrosion paints, and to compare their prevention effects in salt water. The paints used in the study were epoxy resin I . II . III, Z.R. P., and silicone resin, which were applied at rates recommended by the manufacturers. The bond strengths were measured on the 7-, 14-, and 28-th days after molding. Corrosion conditions of coated steel plate under fresh water, seawater, 10 % salt water, and 20% salt water, were inspected every month during four months test peoriods, respectively. The results obtained from tests are summarized as follows: 1. Paint-coating may reduce the bond strengths of reinforced concrete. Silicone resin paint showed some 20% reduction in the strength compared to those without the paint. However, the other paints seemed not to significantly affect the strength. 2. Picture analyses showed that epoxy resin I and II significantly prevented corrosion steel plates in seawater. Epoxy resin I and silicone resin coating did not do a good job in corrosion prevention. Z.R. P. paint was found to be moderate as preventive coating paint. 3. Varying soluble salt contents had little effects on the corrosion prevention of tested paints. 4. Epoxy resin I and II were found to be appropriate as a coating material to prevent the corrosion of steel rods in seawater. Z.R.P. may also be used for the purpose.
The novel carbon coating process for interlayer of fiber reinforced ceramic composites between fiber and matrix was performed by carbonizing phenolic resin solution that coated on fiber surface in $N_2$ atmosphere at $600^{\circ}C$ to improve the strength and fracture toughness of CMC(ceramic matrix composite). 160 nm carbon layer was coated on fiber surface with 5 vol% of phenolic resin solution. Since the process temperature ($600^{\circ}C$) is lower than chemical vapor deposition($900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$), the strength and toughness could be preserved. Furthermore the coating thickness uniformity was improved to 8% of deviation along the stacking sequence. Therefore, prevention from fiber degradation during coating process and controlling coating thickness uniformity along the preform depth were achieved by coating with phenolic resin carbonizing method.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of three different surface conditioning methods on the shear bond strength (SBS) of metal brackets bonded directly to gold alloy with chemically cured resin. Methods: Two hundred ten type III gold alloy specimens were randomly divided into six groups according to the combination of three different surface conditioning methods (aluminum oxide sandblasting only, application of a metal primer after aluminum oxide sandblasting, silica coating and silanation) and thermocycling (with thermocycling, without thermocycling). After performing surface conditioning of specimens in accordance with each experimental condition, metal brackets were bonded to all specimens using a chemically cured resin. The SBS was measured at the moment of bracket debonding, and the resin remnants on the specimen surface were evaluated using the adhesive remnant index. Results: Application of metal primer after aluminum oxide sandblasting yielded a higher bond strength than that with aluminum oxide sandblasting alone (p < 0.001), and silica coating and silanation yielded a higher bond strength than that with metal primer after aluminum oxide sandblasting (p < 0.001). There was no significant change in SBS after thermocycling in all groups. Conclusions: With silica coating and silanation, clinically satisfactory bond strength can be attained when metal brackets are directly bonded to gold alloys using a chemically cured resin.
Ion exchange resins can be one of the good carriers for sustained drug release. However, the sustained release may not be enough only with themselves and hence film coating with rate controlling polymers can be applied to have a further effect on the drug release. Due to the environmental and economic issues of organic solvent for the polymer coating, aqueous polymeric systems were selected to develop dosage forms. Among the many aqueous polymeric dispersions for the film coating, EC (ethylcellulose) based polymers such as Aquacoat$^{(R)}$ ECD and Surelease$^{(R)}$ were evaluated.A fluid-bed coating was applied as a processing method. The drug release rate was quite dependent on the coating level so the release rate could be modified easily by changing different levels of the coating. The drug release rate in the Aquacoat$^{(R)}$ coated resin particles was strongly dependent on curing, which is a thermal treatment to make homogeneous films and circumvent drug release changes during storage. After dissolution test using the compressed tablets in which the coated resin particles are contained, inhomogeneous coating and even pores could be observed showing that the mechanical properties of EC were not resistant to granulation and compaction process. However, when tablets were prepared in different batches, the release profiles were almost identical showing the feasibility of the coated resin particle as incorporated into the tablet formulation.
A study on a new anti-finger printed EGI steel sheet with high corrosion resistance has been carried out to meet the recent requirement of high quality and performance of the pure zinc electrogalvanized steel sheet. The substrate was the pure zinc electrogalvanized sheet with the metallic coating of 20g/$\m^2$. The two differ-ent processes for inorganic(chromating) and organic(resin) coating were applied. One was a two coat/two bake type to separately treat chromating and resin coating which is now widely used. The other was a one coat/one bake type to simultaneously treat them which is newly developed in this study. The solution for the one coat/one bake type was an aqua-base coating agents which was composed of inorganic and organic components. The new anti-finger printed EGI steel sheet with the Cr and resin coating weight of 13mg/$\m^2$ and 800mg/$\m^2$, respectively shows the superior corrosion resistance besides the good paintability, formability fingerprint resistance and earth characteristics properties.
Drying and curing characteristics of PCM resins using the induction heater and short-wave infrared emitter module was studied to develop a compact oven system for the high speed CCL and post-treatment equipment. Drying of the polyester resins using the induction heater and infrared heater showed that the blistering tendency of polyester resin coating increased regardless of additives and colors of resins as the heating rate and/or dry film thickness increased. The blistering of polyester resin coating layer occurred when the heating speed was over than $25^{\circ}C/sec$ for the dry film thickness of $19\~20um$, which is the typical thickness of finish coating in CCL. So did it when the heating speed was over than $40^{\circ}C/sec$ for the dry film thickness over than 10 um. The heating efficiency of paint coated steels by the infrared heating was strongly dependent on the colors of paint coating and generally increased for the dark surface and/or coating. But the faster drying of the PCM resin coatings increased the blistering tendency of coating layer. The blistering limit for the typical finish coating by the infrared heating was estimated as the heating rate slower than $20^{\circ}C/sec$ regardless of colors of PCM resins.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dentin bonding agents on the bond strength of composite resin restorations in case of applying the dentin bonding agents to acid etched enamel surfaces. Freshly extracted 364 bovine anterior teeth were selected as a adherents. 320 enamel specimens were divided into two groups(unetched group (1) and etched group (2) for testing the shear bond strength, 40 specimens were used for the hardness testing, and 4 specimens of rest were to observe the resin-tag formation into etched enamel surfaces. All surfaces of enamel specimens were polished with 320~1500 SiC paper under continuous running water. In Group (1), 100 enamel specimens were polished and unetched. 220 polished enamel specimens in Group (2) were etched with 37 % phosphoric acid solution for 60 seconds, washed with water for 20 seconds, and dried with a light air pressure for 60 seconds. Three kinds of dentin bonding agents(Gluma, Prisma, Scotchbond 2) were evaluated the effect on the bond strength to conditioned enamel surfaces. Shear bond strengths were measured on the three cases such as a coating of primer only, a coating of sealer only, and a sequential coating of primer and sealer to acid etched enamel surfaces were compared with the bond strengths measured by the coating of enamel bonding agent followed by the bonding of composite resin (Photo clearfil bright, Kuraray, Japan) to unetched and acid etched enamel surfaces. In addition, the hardness tested on the adhesive fractured surface between composite resin enamel as a mean of evaluation of a factor whether the mechanical bond strengths were affected and the penetration of dentin bonding agents into etched enamel surfaces was also observed. Bond strengths were measured using the method of shear bond strength by a universal testing machine (Instron-4467, USA), statistical test were applied to the results using a one way analysis variance(ANOVA), and hardness was measured by the Vicker's Hardness Tester(MHT-i, Matsuzawa, Japan) and the penetration of the resins were observed by the SEM (Hitachi, S-2300, Japan). The following conclusions were drawn; 1. Enamel bonding agent showed to affect the improvement of bond strength of composite resin to enamel surface both unetched and etched. 2. Dentin bonding agents could be resulted in increase of bond strength to unetched enamel surface, but there were no statistical significances. 3. Bond strengths to etched enamel surface were significantly decreased with a coating of dentin primer only. 4. Coating of sealer only and coating of primer and sealer noticed the similar bond strengths of composite resin to etched enamel using the enamel bonding agents. 5. The applying method proved to be more effective than the kinds of dentin bonding agents on the bond strength of composite resin to etched enamel than the kind of dentin. 6. Vicker's hardness numbers of dentin bonding agents were lower than that of composite resin, but the degree of penetration of dentin bonding agents into etched enamel surfaces was excellent.
