  • In this study, we have prepared three kinds of enteric tablet coating formulations for prevention the crack incidence and enhanced process improvement of enteric tablet using aqueous system. we determined the mechanical strength of three formulatons on the enteric film-coating process. The compared experiment of one-layer and two-layer (A), (B) coating treated having placebo tablets without breakline and logo. In result, the breaking force time of two-layer (B) film strength was found to increase 0.8min than two-layer (A). We confirmed the half reduction of working hour and the simplification in the one-layer coating process, and the coating troubles was solved as setting up a dehumidifier in inlet of coater. In result, we recovered that optimum running capacity(g/kg) of dehumidifier is 10g/kg and below.

  • UV curable hybrid systems have been investigated in the urethane acrylate based formulations where potentially irritant acrylate monomers have been substituted by vinyl ethers. Generally, among the systems studied, coating properties of hybrid system are superior to those of free radical hut inferior to those of cationic systems. When the content of acrylic oligomer is above 70%, however, hybrid system could render an excellent combination of coating and curing properties which outperforms both cationic and free radical systems. Photo-DSC has been used to follow the progress of crosslinking of various coating systems. Results imply that the critical factors in determining the curing rates of coating formulations are different depending upon the formulation characteristics. In the same type of hybrid formulations, the monomer/oligomer ratio rather than photoinitiator efficiency is the critical factor determining the curing rate of the systems.

  • Application of UV curing technique for poly vinyl chloride (PVC) floor tiles coating has improved the quality of PVC floor. Various formulations including acrylated oligomers based on a polyurethane were blended with reactive monomers, photoinitiators and other additives. The used oligomers are commercial aliphatic urethane acrylates. Thin films were prepared on PVC tiles by bar coating with different formulations using UV radiation. The coating resins were characterized by FTIR. The properties of UV-cured films such as gloss grade and adhesion were examined. The properties of UV-cured films dependent on the influence of composition and processing conditions was studied. The investigation was conducted to achieve an optimal domain of composition and desired coating effect.

  • New formulations of amlodipine maleate tablet have been investigated to enhance the stability of the drug against light and humidity. Three kinds of amlodipine maleate tablets were prepared. One is prepared by previously known formulation (formulation C), the others were by new formulations using hydrophilic polymer $(Opadry^{\circledR})$ coated granules (formulations A and B). Amlodipine maleate powder was coated with $Opadry^{\circledR}$ to produce the coated granules and it was mixed with other excipients to produce the tabletting mass of new formulations A and B. Dissolution rate of newly formulated tablets was over 80% within 10 minutes in 0.01 M HCl medium, and its dissolution pattern was similar to that of $Norvasc^{\circledR}$ tablet. After 6 months storage under accelerated conditions, residual drug contents of tested formulations (A and B) were not significantly different from formulation C, ranging from 96.2 to 100.4%. Meanwhile, dissolution amount of formulation C was significantly reduced compared to that of formulation A (p<0.05), showing formulation A was more stable than unprotected formulation C at the accelerated conditions. Results of appearance, hardness and disintegration remained unchanged during stability study. In conclusion, it showed that the new formulations had enhanced the stability characteristics and hydrophilic coating technique was an alternative and promising method to improve the stability of amlodipine maleate tablet.

  • A study was carried out to investigate such optical properties of coated papers as brightness, opacity and gloss affected by the coating pigment composition and coat weight using clay, ground calcium carbonate, precipitated calcium carbonate, and plastic pigment as pigments. The effects of drying methods and supercalendering on optical properties were also evaluated. Gloss increased abruptly while brightness and opacity decreased slightly by supercalendering due to surface smoothing and consolidating effects of the coating layers. Optical properties changed little by drying methods. Pigment composition showed significant influences on optical properties. Brightness of coated papers decreased or increased linearly as the coat weight was increased depending on the pigment composition, while opacity increased linearly for all formulations. Gloss increased abruptly at low coat weights for all formulations and approached a plateau value at coat weight of 15-20g/$m^2$. Third order polynomial regression equations relating the coat weight with gloss have been derived and tabulated.

  • In order to determine effects of molinate mixture granular formulations on release rate and weed control efficacy of herbicides and growth of rice plants, zeolite impregnation, slurry, and sand-coating granules were tested in laboratory and greenhouse. Release rate of molinate and simetryn was faster in sand-coating granule than in zeolite impregnation and slurry type granules. Mixture granular formulations of molinate/simetryn or molinate/simetryn/MCPB showed good weed control efficacy and this trend was more remarkably shown in sand-coating granule. Sand-coating granule more inhibited growth of rice plants compared to zeolite impregnation and slurry type granules.

  • Transdermal patch formulations of estradiol to treat post-menopausal symptoms and prevent osteoporosis in women were developed and evaluated for the permeation characteristics through the excised hairless mouse abdorminal skin and the uterotropic effect on the ovariectomized rabbits. The design of patch formulations was optimized by varying several formulation parameters, such as type of enhancers, amount of enhancers, amount of drug loading and coating thickness. Compared to a commercially available transdermal product, several patch formulations showed the similar skin permeation profiles (following zero-order kinetics), but their skin permeation rates were lasted for the longer period (a week). In one-week uterotropic efficacy test in the ovariectimized rabbits, the selected patch formulations showed the positive effect in atrophy of the urogenital epithelium. The mean values of uterus weight in rabbits after application of patches containing estradiol were much higher than those in control group (containing no drug).

  • Four multialkoxy-functionalized siloxane base-polymers (BP-1~4) were synthesized through either hydrosilylation or condensation reactions in order to prepare multi-networked siloxane polymers having appropriate physical properties for protective coating in fabrications of electronics. Formulations of 4 base-polymers gave coating materials A and B. Product A showed well-controlled flowing and leveling properties, and product A-2 was successfully applied to protective insulating coating for junction areas of connectors and chips in PDP controller. Tack free time, extrusion rate, dielectric breakdown voltage, hardness, thermal stability, water resistance and flame resistance of products A and B were examined.

  • This research was carried out to investigate the effects of density, resin and particle types on the physical and mechanical properties of the composites made from various wood particles mixed with coating paper. The experiment was designed to apply with three particles (flake, chip, and fiber) and three resin types (urea, phenol and PMDI resin). The mixed ratio of coating paper to wood particle was fixed on 50 to 50% in each board making. And also it was designed to apply for four density levels (0.6, 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9 g/$cm^3$) and four mixed formulations of coating paper to wood particle (10:90, 20:80, 30:70, and 40:60 %) to analyze clearly the effects of PMDI resin. Coating paper-wood particle composites have acceptable bending strength (MOR, MOE) though the mixed ratio of coating paper was increased, but have low internal bond strength and poor dimensional stability (WA, TS, LE). Composites with high density had higher mechanical properties but showed lower physical properties than composites with low density. In conclusion, at least up to 20% mixed ratios, coating paper-wood particle composites have acceptable physical and mechanical properties, and PMDI resin has possibility for coating paper-wood particle composite manufacture.
