Ageing Behavior of Beeswax Coated Hanji(I) - Thermal Ageing Test of Beeswax Coated Hanji - (밀랍지의 열화 거동 (제1보) - 열에 의한 밀랍지의 열화 -)

  • The annals of Joseon Dynasty has been known as one of the UNESCO's Memory of the World Heritage. The annals of Joseon Dynasty composed with two kind of books, wax coated book and non coated book. Especially the waxed book have been severely damaged by various reason. For the safety preservation of the annals of Joseon Dynasty waxed book, the thermal ageing mechanism of beeswax coated Hanji paper has been evaluated. The weight loss of waxed Hanji were rapidly increased until 30 days in three temperatures(105, 120 & $150^{\circ}C$) and stabilized after 30 days. The acid value and relative intensity of carbonyl groups in beeswax were increased with strong conditions. This means that the deterioration of beeswax should be progressed with oxidizing reaction. The physical strength and the crystallinity of dewaxed Hanji were decreased with ageing time.

  • In the previous study, the possibility of modifying the surface properties of base paper with plasma treatment was evaluated. It was shown that only the hydrophilic properties of the base paper surface was increased while there was no changes in physical and optical properties. Only the surface of the plasma treated side was modified. In this study, the effect of plasma treatment on binder migration was elucidated. The base paper was plasma treated with various voltage and then the plasma treated base papers were coated with varying coated weight. The surface strength of the coated paper (dry and wet pick) was increased with plasma treatment, which implies that the plasma treatment of base paper can inhibit the binder migration.

Photocatalytic Degradation of Gaseous Acetaldehyde through TiO2-Coated Fly Ash Composites (TiO2 코팅 석탄회 복합체의 기상 Acetaldehyde 광분해 특성)

  • The photocatalyst of $TiO_2$ coated on a fly ash composites (TCF) was prepared from precipitant dropping method to remove the acetaldehyde by photocatalytic reaction. The TCF were characterized by crystal aize, crystal structure and specific surface area. The photodegradation of acetaldehyde has been investigated using a UV-illuminated fixed photocatalytic reactor with TCF catalyst and P-25 catalyst in gas phase. The effect of photodegradation reaction conditions, such as initial concentration of acetaldehyde, concentration of oxidant in mixed gas and the light intensity on the photodegradation of acetaldehyde were investigated. P-25 catalyst showed the highest photodegradation of acetaldehyde and anatase $TiO_2$ coated TCF showed higher decomposition rate than rutile coated TCF. The photodegradation rate of acetaldehyde increased with the decrease of flow rate, initial concentration of acetaldehyde ($C_i$) and water vapor, however, it was increased with the increas of UV light intensity. The optimum conditions were weight of TCF=10 g, flow rate=50 ml/min $C_i$=100 ppm, concentration of oxygen=20%, concentration of water vapor=100 ppm.

Relationship between Seed Vigour and Electrolyte Leakage in Rice Seeds with Different Grain-filling Period

  • The conductivity test is a measure of electrolytes leakage from plant tissue. The shorter the maturation period after heading was the greater electrical conductivity (EC) of rice seed. The polymer-coated seed was not different in EC compared with non-coated seed. As soaking time of rice seed increased, EC increased gradually. The EC varied from 9.9 to 20.7$\mu$S $cm^{-1}g^{-l}$ for control plots and from 21.3 to 41.7$\mu$S $cm^{-1}g^{-l}$ for heat-killed seeds which were produced by autoclaving seeds at 121$^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes. The germination speed (the rate of 5th day) of rice seed was 94% at control plot, 83% at low temperature and 20% at high temperature. Besides, germination percentage was 95% for the control, 92% for the low temperature treatment and 39% for the high temperature treatment. The EC was negatively correlated (r=-0.771$^{**}$) with germination percentage at low temperature. Water uptake in seeds of 30, 40, 50 days after heading (DAH) was greater than that of 20 DAH. Plant height of seedlings was 9.84 cm for the control but 4.32 cm for the high temperature treatment, and the tallest for polymer-coated seed. Dry weight of seedlings was 0.841 g for the control and 0.287 g at high temperature. Besides, the polymer-coated seed was heavier than non-coated seed. The number of roots was largest from 40 to 50 DAH and polymer-coated seed, but was decreased from 20 to 30 DAH. The length of roots was 20.52 cm at control plot and 19.89 cm polymer-coated seed but 8.68 cm for the low temperature treatment and 7.28 cm for the high temperature treatment.

Freshness Extension of Corrugated Fiberboard Box coated with Functional Materials (기능성 소재가 코팅된 골판지상자의 감귤의 신선도 유지 효과)

  • This study was measured weight loss, total ascorbic acid, titratable acidity, soluble solids content and overall appearances to investigate the effect of corrugated fiberboard box coated with functional materials ; R, G, X box, R, G and X box and Con(double wall corrugated fiberboard) box during storage at $25^{\circ}C$. Weight loss of mandarin of control, corrugated paperboard box coated with functional materials(Y-, R-, G-box) after 8 days were 2.56% to 3.67%. There was not different to weight loss among the four kind of packages. Titratable acidity and soluble solids content of packages was not significant. Total ascorbic acid content(TAA) of mandarin packed with R-box and Y-box was 10% higher than that of control after 8 days. Decay ratio of R-box, Y-box, G-box and control was 4%, 10%, 10% and 8%, respectively. Overall appearance of R-box was the best.

Synthesis of $WS_2$ Solid Lubricant and Its Application to Ball Bearing ($WS_2$고체윤활제의 합성 및 구름베어링 적용)

  • The processing conditions fur the synthesis of platelet W $S_2$ lubricant powder through a solid-gas reaction were optimized. The mixture of tungsten and sulfur powders were sealed in a vacuum of 10$^{-6}$ torr, prior to heat-treating at 85$0^{\circ}C$ fur 8 days. The reaction product showed a well-developed platelet W $S_2$ powder with an average size of 3.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The TGA/DTA analysis of the synthesized W $S_2$ powder was performed up to 120$0^{\circ}C$ at a rate of 1$0^{\circ}C$/min in flowing air (100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/min) atmosphere. The weight loss was about 6% up to 120$0^{\circ}C$ compared to the original weight. A rapid weight loss of about 5% occurred in the temperature range of 44$0^{\circ}C$ to 66$0^{\circ}C$ and an exothermic peak observed due to the transition of W $S_2$ to W $O_3$. The synthesized W $S_2$powder was coated on the commercial deep grooved ball bearing (No. 6203) to examine the effect of W $S_2$, coating layer on the noise and endurance of the ball bearing. The level of noise obtained from W $S_2$, coated-ball bearing (56 ㏈) was higher. than the value (32 ㏈) occurred in the case of greece lubrication. The endurance of the ball-bearing assembled after the coating of W $S_2$ powder onto each part increased 50 times compared to the non-coated ball-bearing..

The Effect of Nb-doped TiO2 Coating for Improving Stability of NiCrAl Alloy Foam (NiCrAl 합금 폼의 안정성 향상을 위해 코팅된 Nb-doped TiO2의 효과)

  • Nb-doped $TiO_2$(NTO) coated NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production is prepared using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition(USPD) method. To optimize the size and distribution of NTO particles based on good physical and chemical stability, we synthesize particles by adjusting the weight ratio of the Nb precursor solution(5 wt%, 10 wt% and 15 wt%). The morphological, chemical bonding, and structural properties of the NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam are investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy(XPS), and Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM). As a result, the samples of controlled Nb weight ratio exhibit a common diffraction pattern at ${\sim}25.3^{\circ}$, corresponding to the(101) plane, and have chemical bonding(O-Nb=O) at 534 eV. The NTO particles with the optimum weight ratio of N (10 wt%) show a uniform distribution with a size of ~18.2-21.0 nm. In addition, they exhibit the highest corrosion resistance even in the electrochemical stability estimation. As a result, the introduction of NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam by USPD improves the chemical stability of the NiCrAl alloy foam by protecting the direct electrochemical reaction between the foam and the electrolyte. Thus, the optimized NTO coating can be proposed for excellent protection of NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrocarbon-based steam methane reforming(SMR).

Breathability of Breathable Fabrics for Sportswear according to Measuring Method (투습도 측정방법에 따른 스포츠웨어용 투습직물의 투습특성)

  • This study investigated water vapor permeability of the 73 breathable fabrics for sports-wear according to the materials, finishing methods and fabric structural parameters. The water vapor permeability by KS K 0594 method of PET breathable fabric was superior than that of nylon one, in addition, water vapor permeability of coated or laminated breathable fabrics were higher than those of hot melt or dot laminated fabrics. The water vapor permeability of breathable fabric was dependent on the thickness, weight and density, which was consistent with measuring method. However, water vapor permeability according to materials and finishing method showed different results according to measuring method. The correlation coefficient of WVP of PET breathable fabrics between ISO and KS K measuring methods was -0.83 and the correlation coefficient of WVP of coated breathable fabrics was -0.72 and -0.71 for KS K and ASTM and -0.72 for KS K and ISO in hot melt laminated breathable fabrics. According to regression analysis, WVP of PET breathable fabric by both KSK and ISO measuring methods was highly dependent upon on the density and weight. In addition, WVP of hot melt laminated breathable fabric was highly dependent upon thickness, weight and density. Therefore, relevant measuring method for WVP of breathable fabrics has to be adopted to measure precise breathability.

EIS Properties of Lightweght Aggregate According to Surface Coating (표면 코팅 유무에 따른 경량골재의 EIS 특징)

  • In recent years, the construction industry has a tendency to increase of high-rise builidngs. High rise buildings can use limited space efficiently. But High rise buildings have problem that have extremely heavy weight. Various studies are being conducted to reduce the weight of buildings. Although lightweight aggregate is a meterial that can effectively reduce the weight of buildings, the strength of the aggregate itself is weak and the absorption rate is high, so the strength of the ITZ(Interfacial Transition Zone) area is weak. Therefore, it is essential to improve the interfacial area when using lightweight aggregates. In this study, an experiment was conducted to improve the adhesion between the aggregate and cement paste and to strengthen the interfacial area by coating the surface of the lighteight aggregate with Blast Furnace Slag. To confirm the improvement, compressive strength and EIS(Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) measurements were perfromed. Using EIS, the change in electrical resistance of the cement hardened body was confirmed. As a result, it was confirmed that the lightweight aggregate coated on the surface showed highter compressive strength and electrical resistance than the non-coated lightweight aggregate, and that the coating material was filled in the interfacial area and inside the aggregate that helped to strengthen the compresssive strength and higher electrical resistance.

  • In this study, the effects of the number of coat and immersion period on strength properties, waterproofness and chemical resistance of painted and immersed cement mortars using two admixture were examined. Test results showed that the flexural and the compressive strengths of the coated and immersed cement mortars increase with increasing number of coat and immersion period. The water absorption of the coated and immersed cement mortars tended to decrease with increasing number of coated and immersion period. In the case of the change of weight and the immersion period for the solutions, a decreasing tendency was shown as the immersion period increases regardless of solution, with a little variation.
