Mechanical damage evolution and a statistical damage constitutive model for water-weak sandstone and mudstone

  • The weakening effect of water on rocks is one of the main factors inducing deformation and failure in rock engineering. To clarify this weakening effect, immersion tests and post-immersion triaxial compression tests were conducted on sandstone and mudstone. The results showed that the strength of water-immersed sandstone decreases with increasing immersion time, exhibiting an exponential relationship. Similarly, the strength of water-immersed mudstone decreases with increasing environmental humidity, also following an exponential relationship. Subsequently, a statistical damage model for water-weakened rocks was proposed, changes in elastic modulus to describe the weakening effect of water. The model effectively simulated the stress-strain relationships of water-affected sandstone and mudstone under compression. The R2 values between the theoretical and experimental peak values ranged from 0.962 to 0.996, and the MAPE values fell between 3.589% and 9.166%, demonstrating the model's effectiveness and reliability. The damage process of water-saturated rocks corresponds to five stages: compaction stage - no damage, elastic stage - minor damage, crack development stage - rapid damage increase, post-peak residual stage - continuous damage increase, and sliding stage - damage completion. This study provides a foundational reference for researching the fracture characteristics of overlying strata during coal mining under complex hydrogeological conditions.

Geochemistry and isotope compositions of the Han River, Korea

  • In order to investigate processes and factors controlling the chemical and isotopic compositions of the Han River, seasonal studies were carried out. The North Han River was much lower in the concentrations of total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and major ions than the South Han River, but higher in $SiO_2$ concentration, $\delta$$^{34}$ $S_{so4}$ value and $^{87}$ Sr/$^{86}$ Sr ratio. This indicates that the chemical and isotopic compositions of the Han River were strongly controlled by the geology of their drainage basins: silicate rocks in the North Han River and carbonate rocks in the South Han River. The $\delta$$^{34}$ $S_{so4}$ values were relatively higher in the North Han River (5.90$\pm$1.46$\textperthousand$)) than in the South Han River (3.48$\pm$0.73$\textperthousand$). This implies that dissolved S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$ in the North Han River might be mostly derived from deposition of atmospheric sulfates, whereas in the South Han River from oxidation of sulfide minerals in the abandoned poly-metallic deposits and the coal-bearing sedimentary rocks distributed over the upstream as well as deposition of atmospheric sulfates. The $^{87}$ S $r^{86}$ Sr ratios in the North Han River were distinctly higher than those in the South Han River, reflecting water-rock interaction with different rock types.pes.

  • 본 논문은 영동선 동백산역에서 도계역 사이를 연결하는 국내 최장터널(16.2km)인 솔안터널의 굴착사례를 소개하고자 한다.본 현장은 퇴적암지대로서 단층,공동 및 함탄층으로 구성된 복잡한 지질구조를 가지고 있다. 이러한 지질구조 중 석회암 지대에서 터널 굴착시 예기치 못한 유수에 의해 지반공학적 문제점이 발생하였다. 본 터널은 석회암층 내 공동 및 단층의 영향으로 지하수위의 저하 및 토사유실이 발생하여 지표침하를 가져왔다. 이에 따른 정밀조사를 통한 원인 분석과 대책을 소개하고, 석회암의 특성을 반영한 침하 재발방지방안을 제시하고자 한다.

미정제 석탄회를 혼합골재의 미립분 보충재로 활용하는 시멘트 모르타르의 공학적 특성 분석 (Analyzing the Engineering Properties of Cement Mortar using Raw Coal Ash as a Microfines for the Mixed Aggregate)

  • 본 연구는 국내의 부족한 골재자원확보, 폐기물 재활용 및 콘크리트의 품질향상을 목적으로 시도되었다. 즉, 잔골재의 혼합은 굵은 입자를 많이 포함하여 표준입도범위를 벗어나는 석산B(CSb) 및 건설현장의 터파기한 발파석을 분쇄한 발파석(BS)과 미세한 입자를 많이 포함하여 표준입도범위를 벗어나는 해사(SS)를 혼합하는 것으로 한다. 또한, CSb+SS, BS+SS를 혼합골재로 제조할 경우, 전반적으로는 표준입도범위에 포함될지라도 0.15mm이상의 미립자가 부족하므로서 모르타르 및 콘크리트 품질에 결함으로 나타날 수 있다. 따라서 여기에 겨울철 초기강도에 기여하지 못하므로서 버려지는 화력발전소의 미정제 석탄회(Ra)를 0~10% 범위에서 치환하는 것을 검토하였다. 연구결과, CSb 혹은 BS와 SS를 6:4의 비율로 혼합하여 혼합골재로 제조하고, 여기에 Ra를 5% 치환할 경우 골재의 입도측면 및 시멘트 모르타르의 품질 측면에서 가장 양호한 결과가 얻어짐을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Damage characterization of hard-brittle rocks under cyclic loading based on energy dissipation and acoustic emission characteristics

  • In order to investigate the damage evolution law of rock specimens under cyclic loading, cyclic loading tests under constant loads with different amplitudes were carried out on limestone specimens with high strength and brittleness values using acoustic emission (AE) technology and the energy evolution and AE characteristics were evaluated. Based on dissipated energy density and AE counts, the damage variable of specimen was characterized and two damage evolution processes were analyzed and compared. The obtained results showed that the change of AE counts was closely related to radial deformation. Higher cyclic loading values result in more significant radial strain of limestone specimen and larger accumulative AE counts of cyclic loading segment, which indicated Felicity effect. Regarding dissipated energy density, the damage of limestone specimen was defined without considering the influence of radial deformation, which made the damage value of cyclic loading segment higher at lower amplitude loads. The damage of cyclic loading segment was increased with the magnitude of load. When dissipated energy density was applied to define damage, the damage value at unloading segment was smaller than that of AE counts. Under higher cyclic loading values, rocks show obvious damage during both loading and unloading processes. Therefore, during deep rock excavation, the damages caused by the deformation recovery of unloading rocks could not be ignored when considering the damage caused by abutment pressure.

대규모 노천 석탄광산의 한계사면높이 결정과 사면파괴 예측을 위한 계측자료 해석 (Determination of Critical Slope Height for Large Open-pit Coal Mine and Analysis of Displacement for Slope failure Prediction)

  • 노천광산에서 사면설계는 안정성과 경제성 측면에서 동시에 접근하여 결정해야 한다. 또한 일반 도로나 철도 연변의 사면과는 달리 대부분 지보나 보강없이 굴착해야 하기 때문에 사면각도가 가장 중요한 설계 변수이다. 본 연구에서는 인도네시아 파시르에 위치한 노천채광방식의 대규모 석탄광산 사면에 대하여 안정성 측면에서의 사면 각도 및 한계사면높이를 결정하였으며 이러한 설계가 가지고 있는 불확실성을 보완할 수 있는 계측 및 계측자료 해석을 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 사면각도(Overall Elope angle) $30^{\circ}$를 유지하는 경우 안전율 1.5를 확보하는 최대개발심도는 $353{\sim}438m$로 계산되었으나 강도정수에 대한 민감도분석결과를 고려할 때 사면높이는 300m를 초과하지 않는 것이 바람직하다. 또한 변위계측자료에 대한 역변위속도 분석 결과가 현장사면 사례와 잘 일치하여 이 방법을 통해 사면의 불안정성 및 파괴시기를 대략적으로 예측할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Mine water inrush characteristics based on RQD index of rock mass and multiple types of water channels

  • Because of the various patterns of deep-water inrush and complicated mechanisms, accurately predicting mine water inflows is always a difficult problem for coal mine geologists. In study presented in this paper, the water inrush channels were divided into four basic water diversion structures: aquifer, rock fracture zone, fracture zone and goaf. The fluid flow characteristics in each water-conducting structure were investigated by laboratory tests, and multistructure and multisystem coupling flow analysis models of different water-conducting structures were established to describe the entire water inrush process. Based on the research of the water inrush flow paths, the analysis model of different water inrush space structures was established and applied to the prediction of mine water inrush inflow. The results prove that the conduction sequence of different water-conducting structures and the changing rule of permeability caused by stress changes before and after the peak have important influences on the characteristics of mine water-gushing. Influenced by the differences in geological structure and combined with rock mass RQD and fault conductivity characteristics and other mine exploration data, the prediction of mine water inflow can be realized accurately. Taking the water transmitting path in the multistructure as the research object of water inrush, breaking through the limitation of traditional stratigraphic structure division, the prediction of water inflow and the estimation of potentially flooded area was realized, and water bursting intensity was predicted. It is of great significance in making reasonable emergency plans.

Temporary Dominance of Exotic Plant Species on Overburden Coal Mines in South Kalimantan

  • Primary succession on bare rocks is a challenge for invaders, including one of which was plants. The invasion of bare rock by exotic species raises the question of whether their presence hinders or facilitates succession. This study aimed to determine the role of exotic species in primary succession in six overburden (OB) coal mines using a chronosequence approach. Vegetation analysis was undertaken using line transects. Measurements were carried out on the absolute and relative coverage of each species. Native and exotic species were identified and grouped using information from local communities, identification books, and websites. The relationship between time and number of species, time, and relative dominance of exotic and native species was analyzed using Pearson's correlation. Species number and dominance data were analyzed descriptively. The number of native species from the six OB heaps was higher (57) than that from exotic heaps (50). Neither the number of species nor the coverage showed a significant relationship with time. Exotic species predominated throughout the age of the embankment but tended to decrease over time. Temporary dominance by exotic species plays a role in assisting primary succession in the OB. This process might be prolonged without the temporary dominance of exotic species during early primary succession.

폐광지역 침하방지를 위한 지반 및 구조물기초 보강 (A Case Study on Reinforcement of Ground and Foundation against Subsidence in Abandoned Mining Area)

  • 폐광지역의 침하발생 메커니즘 및 영향범위는 현장의 지반조건, 지압분포, 채굴적의 기하학적인 조건, 상부 구조물의 하중 조건 등에 따라 달라지므로 이를 예측하기는 매우 어렵다. 또한 지질 및 지반 상태, 탄층의 발달 상태, 채굴방법 등이 채굴현장마다 다르므로 기존의 보강대책을 그대로 적용하는 데에는 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 국내 폐광지역에 대한 합리적인 보강대책 수립을 위해 광역 채굴현황조사를 바탕으로 채굴적의 분포를 파악하고, 대심도 시추조사, 탄성파 토모그래피, 시추공 영상촬영 등의 상세 지반조사를 수행하여 석탄층의 분포현황과 암반이완상태를 파악하였다. 이를 토대로 지반침하이론에 의해 침하발생 유형을 예측하고 지반침하량을 산정하였다. 또한, 연구대상 지역의 침하발생 메커니즘을 분석하였으며, 기존 폐광지역 보강사례를 분석하여 각 침하원인별로 대상지역의 지반특성에 부합되는 지반 및 구조물기초에 대한 보강대책을 수립하였다.

모암(母岩)의 전기비저항(電氣比抵抗) 변화(變化)에 따른 외견비저항(外見比抵抗)의 변화양상(變化樣相)에 관(關)한 모형연구(模型硏究) (A Model Study on the Variation of Apparent Resistivity along with Electric Resistivity Change of Host Rock)

  • A model study was conducted for the investigation of apparent resistivity variation along with electric resistivity variation of host rock and dip variation of bed. Experiments were carried out for the cases of horizontal and dipping beds in a water tank by using Wenner and Schlumberger arrays and by changing salinity of water. The ratios of resistivity values of the bed to that of brine were 1 : 10, 1 : 50, 1 : 100 and 1 : 500. Natural coally-shale of $55cm{\times}35cm{\times}3.5cm$ was used as a bed for experimental model, and brine as a host rock. Equi-resistivity curves and characteristic curves were obtained for each case of the experiment. The equi-resistivity curve was drawn both on the cross section parallel to strike of bed and longitudinal section perpendicular to it. The characteristic curve was drawn on the cross section. In the case of dipping bed of different dips, the curves are parallel to the boundary of the bed in the upper part of the bed, and are inclined to the opposite direction with the same angle of the dip of bed in the lower part. We can deduce, from the equi-resistivity curves, the location, shape and dip of the bed. It is shown in the characteristic curves that when the ratio of resistivity value of bed to that of host rock increases, the slope of curves becomes steeper, location of low-resistivity zone lower, and the width of it narrower. The slope of curves also becomes steeper when dip of bed increases. We can deduce, from the characteristic curves, the ratio of resistivity values between adjacent beds. It was found out from the experiments that electric resistivity method could be applicable to prospecting for underground geology with an electric resistivity contrast of 1 : 10. This fact strongly suggests that distinction of coal from coally-shale could be possible in a certain field condition.
