Influence of Biomass Co-firing on a Domestic Pulverized Coal Power Plant In Terms of CO2 Abatement and Economical Feasibility (다양한 바이오매스 혼소시 국내 미분탄화력에 미치는 이산화탄소 감축 및 경제성 영향 분석)

  • Co-firing of renewable fuel in coal fired boilers is an attractive option to mitigate $CO_2$ emissions, since it is a relatively low cost option for efficiently converting renewable fuel to electricity by adding biomass as partial substitute of coal. However, it would cause reducing plant efficiency and operational flexibility, and increasing operation and capital cost associated with handling and firing equipment of renewable fuels. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of biomass co-firing on $CO_2$ emission and capital/operating cost. Wood pellet, PKS (palm kernel shell), EFB (empty fruit bunch) and sludge are considered as renewable fuels for co-firing with coal. Several approaches by the co-firing ratio are chosen from previous plant demonstrations and commercial co-firing operation, and they are evaluated and discussed for $CO_2$ reduction and cost estimation.

  • The cofiring of renewable fuel in coal fired boilers is an attractive option to mitigate $CO_2$ emissions, since it is relatively low cost option for efficiently converting renewable fuel to electricity by adding biomass as partial substitute of coal. Mechanical Fault Classification of an Induction Motor using Texture Analysis (질감 분석을 이용한 유도 전동기의 기계적 결함 분류)

  • This paper proposes an algorithm using vibration signals and texture analysis for mechanical fault diagnosis of an induction motor. We analyze characteristics of contrast and pattern of an image converted from vibration signal and extract three texture features using gray-level co-occurrence model(GLCM). Then, the extracted features are used as inputs of a multi-level support vector machine(MLSVM) which utilizes the radial basis function(RBF) kernel function to classify each fault type. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 0.3 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of MLSVM, and the proposed algorithm achieved 100% classification accuracy with the parameter of the RBF from 0.3 to 1.0. Moreover, the proposed algorithm achieved about 98% classification accuracy with 15dB and 20dB noise inserted vibration signals.

  • 본 논문에서는 분산 실시간 객체 모델인 TMO 엔진의 공식적인 배포와 지속적인 관리를 위하여 커널기반 TMO 모델 위에 UCIrvine의 TMO 표준 인터페이스에 맞추어 라이브러리를 설계하고 구현하였다. 표준 인터페이스의 제공을 위하여 개발된 라이브러리에서는 본 연구실에서 개발되었던 TMO-eCos의 기존 인터페이스 위에 채널 기반의 통신 API인 Gate, RMMC를 설계하였으며, 로컬 혹은 분산 IPC 메시지의 정시성을 보장하기 위해 제안된 ORT를 추가적으로 설계하고 구현하였다.

Analysis of Orthotropic Bearing Non-linearity Using Non-linear FRFs

  • Among other critical conditions in rotor systems the large non-linear vibration excited by bearing non-linearity causes the rotor failure. For reducing this catastrophic failure and predictive detection of this phenomenon the analysis of orthotropic bearing non-linearity in rotor system using higher order frequency response functions (HFRFs) is conducted and is shown to be theoretically feasible as that of non-rotating structures. The complex HFRFs based on the Volterra series are newly developed for the process and investigated their features by using the simple forms of the FRFs associated with the forward and the backward modes.

  • OSEK/VDX 운영체제를 개발하는 과정에서 커널 이미지를 생성하여 임베디드 보드에 업로드하고, 이를 실행시켜보는 일련의 반복적인 작업이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 반복적인 작업들을 일괄적으로 처리할 수 있는 보다 편리한 커널 테스팅 기법을 제시한다. 제시한 기법의 타당성을 검토하기 위하여 ARM7TDM 가 탑재된 EZ-AT7 임베디드 보드에 OSEK/VDX 커널 이미지를 적용하여 실험하였다.

Design and Performance Test of Large-Area Susceptor for the Improvement of Temperature Uniformity (온도 균일도 향상을 위한 대면적 서셉터의 설계 및 성능 시험)

  • Although sheath-type heating line is generally used for susceptor heater, performance deterioration problems in temperature uniformity occurs in the case of large scale and high temperature condition. We developed new design and prototype of the susceptor using sheet metal to provide performance improvement in temperature uniformity. Temperature uniformity below 1.4% in the surface temperature condition of $450^{\circ}C$ was verified in the susceptor prototype. Also we developed Kernel regression algorithm to estimate measured temperature using temperature learning data. The reliability of the measured temperature uniformity was confirmed by comparative analysis between predicted data and measured data.

MCP, Kernel Density Estimation and LoCoH Analysis for the Core Area Zoning of the Red-crowned Crane's Feeding Habitat in Cheorwon, Korea (철원지역 두루미 취식지의 핵심지역 설정을 위한 MCP, 커널밀도측정법(KDE)과 국지근린지점외곽연결(LoCoH) 분석)

  • We tried to find out the core feeding site of the Red-crowned Crane(Grus japonensis) in Cheorwon, Korea by using analysis techniques which are MCP(minimum convex polygon), KDE(kernel density estimation), LoCoH(local nearest-neighbor convex-hull). And, We discussed the difference and meaning of result among analysis methods. We choose the data of utilization distribution from distribution map of Red-crowned Crane in Cheorwon, Korea at $17^{th}$ February 2012. Extent of the distribution area was $140km^2$ by MCP analysis. Extents of core feeding area of the Red-crowned Crane were $33.3km^2$($KDE_{1000m}$), $25.7km^2$($KDE_{CVh}$), $19.7km^2$($KDE_{LSCVh}$), according to the 1000m, CVh, LSCVh in value of bandwidth. Extent, number and shape complexity of the core area has decreased, and size of each core area have decreased as small as the bandwidth size(default:1000m, CVh: 554.6m, LSCVh: 329.9). We would suggest the CVh value in KDE analysis as a proper bandwidth value for the Red-crowned crane's core area zoning. Extent of the distribution range and core area have increased and merged into the large core area as a increasing of k value in LoCoH analysis. Proper value for the selecting core area of Red-crowned Crane's distribution was k=24, and extent of the core area was $18.2km^2$, 16.5% area of total distribution area. Finally, the result of LoCoH analysis, we selected two core area, and number of selected core area was smaller than selected area of KDE analysis. Exact value of bandwidth have not been used in studies using KDE analysis in most articles and presentations of the Korea. As a result, it is needed to clarify the exact using bandwidth value in KDE studies.

Evaluation of Plant Performance during Biomass Co-firing in Pulverized Coal Power Plant (미분탄화력발전에서의 바이오매스 혼소 시 플랜트 성능특성 평가)

  • The aims of this research were to evaluate effects of biomass co-firing to pulverized coal power plants and the variation of co-firing ratios on the plant efficiency related to power consumption of auxiliary system and flue gas characteristics such as production and component by process simulation based on the existing pulverized coal power plant. In this study, four kinds of biomass are selected as renewable fuel candidates for co-firing: wood pellet(WP), palm kernel shell(PKS), empty fruit bunch(EFB) and walnut shell(WS). Process simulation for various biomass fuels and co-firing ratios was performed using a commercial software. Gas side including combustion system and flue gas treatment system was considering with combination of water and steam side which contains turbines, condenser, feed water heaters and pumps. As a result, walnut shell might be the most suitable as co-firing fuel among four biomass since when 10% of walnut shell was co-fired with 90% of coal on thermal basis, flue gas production and power consumption of auxiliary systems were the smallest than those of other biomass co-firing while net plant efficiency was relatively higher than those of other biomass co-firing. However, with increasing walnut shell co-firing ratios, boiler efficiency and net plant efficiency were expected to decrease rather than coal combustion without biomass co-firing.

Development of WMLS-based Particle Simulation Method for Solving Free-Surface Flow (자유표면 유동해석을 위한 WMLS 기반 입자법 기술 개발)

  • In general, particle simulation methods such as the MPS(Moving Particle Simulation) or SPH(Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) methods have some serious drawbacks for pressure solutions. The pressure field shows spurious high fluctuations both temporally and spatially. It is well known that pressure fluctuation primarily occurs because of the numerical approximation of the partial differential operators. The MPS and SPH methods employ a pre-defined kernel function in the approximation of the gradient and Laplacian operators. Because this kernel function is constructed artificially, an accurate solution cannot be guaranteed, especially when the distribution of particles is irregular. In this paper, we propose a particle simulation method based on the moving least-square technique for solving the partial differential operators using a Taylor-series expansion. The developed method was applied to the hydro-static pressure and dam-broken problems to validate it.
