Influence of Nitrogen moieties on CO2 capture of Carbon Aerogel

  • Carbon aerogel is a porous carbon material possessing high porosity and high specific surface area. Nitrogen doping reduced the specific surface area and micropores, but it furnished basic sites to improve the $CO_2$ selectivity. In this work, N-doped carbon aerogels were prepared with different ratios of resorcinol/melamine by using the sol-gel method. The morphological properties were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Nitrogen content was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and the specific surface area and micropore volume were analyzed by $N_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherms at 77 K. The $CO_2$ adsorption capacity was investigated by $CO_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherms at 298 K and 1 bar. Melamine containing N-doped CAs showed a high nitrogen content (5.54 wt.%). The prepared N-doped CAs exhibited a high $CO_2$ capture capacity of 118.77 mg/g (at resorcinol/melamine = 1:0.3). Therefore, we confirmed that the $CO_2$ adsorption capacity was strongly affected by the nitrogen moieties.

  • System on Panel (SOP) can integrate many functions by Thin Film Transistor (TFT) circuits on an insulator substrate without using external driver LSIs. However, to make practical SOP has become more and more difficult because of rapid cost reduction of the driver LSIs. This paper will review the circuit design technology trend for SOP and introduce an example of a practical SOP, 2.0inch QVGA full color active matrix OLED with 8bit source driver.

  • In this paper, a failure model for co-cured steel-composite tubular single lap joints has been proposed incorporating the nonlinear mechanical behavior of steel adherends and different failure mode s such as steel adherend failure and composite adherend failure. The characteristics of the co-cured steel-composite tubular single lap joint were investigated with respect to the test temperature, the stacking sequence of composite adherend, the thickness ratio of steel adherend to composite adherend, and the scarf ratio of steel adherend. Thus, the optimum design method for the co-cured steel-composite tubular single lap joint was suggested.

  • This paper relates to the study of load characteristics applicable to wind turbine generators induced by earthquakes. An artificial design earthquake wave generated through the target spectrum and the envelope function of Richter Magnitude Scale (ML) 7.0 as in ASCE4-98 was created. A simulation of earthquake loads were performed according to the design load cases (DLC) 9.5~9.7 of GL guidelines. Additionally, simulation of seismic loads experienced by Wind Turbines installed in the Gyeongju region were carried out utilizing artificial earthquakes of ML 5.8 simulating the real earthquakes during the Gyeongju Earthquakes of Sept. 2016.

  • This paper presents operating characteristics of internal heat exchanger(IHX) for $CO_2$ geothermal heat pump in the heating mode. Mass flow rate of $CO_2$, inlet temperatures of $CO_2$ at high and low pressure side were selected as main effect factors by using fractional factorial DOE(Design of Experiments). And RSM(Response Surface Method) was used in optimization phase. The results show that heat transfer rate of IHX increases when either inlet temperature of low pressure side decreases or inlet temperature of high pressure side increases. Effectiveness of IHX increases with increasing of inlet temperature of either high pressure side or low pressure side. Finally, performance contour map was provided over the operation ranges of the main design factors.

  • The authors, R&D member of DAWONSYS and Soongsil University, are developing 5000kW smelting inverter system by 2007 under the sponsor from Korea Energy Management Corporation. As a part of the project, 2500kW inverter system has developed in 2005[6], and installed in real production site, and has been running for 7 months successfully. This report deals with the test result of 2500kW smelting inverter system and design for 5000kW smelting inverter system which is final target of this project.

  • It is necessary for the optimum design of switching devices to calculate repulsion forces acting on the closed electric contacts flowing over-current, e.g. inrush current and overload currents. In this paper, the forces generated by currents and flux densities at the contact point when circuit breakers are in closed position are obtained by using 3D finite element method. According to the analysis, the optimum configuration of wipe springs and arc extinguishing chambers are newly designed and consequently type tests show satisfactory results.

  • Since the first underground transmission line in Korea was installed in 1974, the two types of underground transmission power cables, oil-filled and XLPE, have been applied for underground transmission lines. As the manufacturing technologies of XLPE cable have been improved and the simplicity of installation and maintenance has been focused on, the installations of XLPE cables have been largely increased since the mid 1990's. For the first time, in Korea, the 345kV XLPE cable was installed at Pyungtaek thermal power plant in 2003, February. So, this paper introduces the project profile, the design of cable and its accessory, the cable system design, installation and site test.

  • The low rank coal combustion and biomass-coal co-firing characteristics were reviewed on this study for the power plant construction. The importance of using low rank coal(LRC) for power plant is increasing gradually due to power generation economy and biomass co-firing is also concentrated as power source because it has carbon neutral characteristics to reduce green-house effect. The combustion characteristics of low rank coal and biomass for a 310MW coal firing power plant and a 100MW biomass and coal co-firing power plant were studied to apply into actual power plant design and optimized the furnace and burner design.

  • In this paper, through the theoretical study on reducing method and analysis of stray load loss of induction motor, we suggest the improved design considering the slot combination, skew, air gap and manufacturing method. For verifying the suggested design, the test was performed by IEEE 112. As a result, the reducing technology on the stray load loss was established.
