  • The printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) is regarded as a promising candidate for advanced heat exchangers for the next-generation supercritical $CO_2$ power generation owing to its high compactness and rigid structure. In this study, an innovative type of PCHE, in which the channel sizes for the heat source fluid and heat sink fluid are different, is considered for analysis. The thermal performance of the PCHE, with supercritical $CO_2$ as the working fluid, is numerically analyzed. The results have shown that the thermal performance of the PCHE decreases monotonically when the channel size of either the heat source channel or the heat sink channel, because of the decreased flow velocity. On the other hand, the thermal performance of the PCHE is found to be almost independent of the spacing between the channels. In addition, it was found that the channel cross sectional shape has little effect on the thermal performance when the hydraulic diameter of the channel remains constant.

  • Human ether-a-go-go related gene (hERG) potassium channel blockade, an undesirable side effect which might cause sudden cardiac death, is one of the major concerns facing the pharmaceutical industry. The purpose of this study is to develop an in silico QSAR model which uncovers the structural parameters of T-type calcium channel blockers to reduce hERG blockade. Comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) was conducted on a series of piperazine and benzimidazole derivatives bearing methyl 5-(ethyl(methyl)amino)-2-isopropyl-2-phenylpentanoate moieties, which was synthesized by our group. Three different alignment methods were applied to obtain a reliable model: ligand based alignment, pharmacophore based alignment, and receptor guided alignment. The CoMSIA model with receptor guided alignment yielded the best results : $r^2$ = 0.955, $q^2$ = 0.781, $r^2_{pred}$ = 0.758. The generated CoMSIA contour maps using electrostatic, hydrophobic, H-bond donor, and acceptor fields explain well the structural requirements for hERG nonblockers and also correlate with the lipophilic potential map of the hERG channel pore.

  • RPersonal area networking technology is becoming increasingly important in enabling useful wireless home applications. For example, Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11b standards are the most commonly deployed technologies for wireless home applications. However, because both standards share the same unlicensed ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) radio spectrum, severe interference is inevitable and performance can be impaired significantly when heterogeneous devices using the two technologies come into close proximity. In this paper, we research Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system, which is an open specification technology for short-range wireless connectivity between electronic devices. In this paper, we analyzes the effects of co-channel interference on the performance of a Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system. Performance criteria used in the study are the signal to interference power ratio (SIR), interference index, and the bit error rate (BER) in the wireless channel. The effect of co-channel interference from various sources on the performance of a Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system is analyzed using an IGA(Impulsive Gaussian Approximation) method, and these quantities are plotted against Eb/No, $\rho$ and SIR for various channel conditions in figures.

  • In this paper, we introduce CoMP in 3GPP LTE-Advanced Release 11 to take care of shadowing effects appearing in cell-edge areas to meet rapidly increasing demand for high speed transmission and multi-media data. In order to mitigate interference, orthogonalizing is ideal but it is slightly difficult to be applied to real systems. Therefore, interference alignment and avoidance are used in practical applications. Interference alignment is a scheme enabling us to consider interference our friend not enemy. We show lattice codes in Gaussian channel achieve Shannon capacity where strong interference exists. In addition, we show the relationship between channel parameter a and DoF(Degree of Freedom) applying lattice codes to interference alignment for interference channel with three users.

  • We propose the Staggered-zone Resource Allocation (SRA) in order to relax throughput decrease problems by the co-channel interference of the cell boundary users at the cellular OFDMA system using frequency reuse factor K=1 and analyze the throughput improvement. The proposed algorithm allocates the resources to the users in compliance with resource allocation rule which is planned in order to minimize co-channel interference between cells without any additional information. The resource allocation method in the SRA lines up the users in pathloss order as descending series, and then allocates from pre-determined resource allocation region where decides differently in each cell. This algorithm prevents the co-channel interferences of the cell boundary user to be caused by using same resource simultaneously and equalizes interference to the users in the cell.

  • Recently, poly-Si TFT-LCD starts to be mass produced using excimer laser annealing (ELA) poly-Si. The main reason for this is the good quality poly-Si and large area uniformity. We report the influence of channel length and width on poly-Si TFTs performance. Transfer characteristics of p-channel poly-Si thin film transistors fabricated on polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin film transistors (TFTs) with various channel lengths and widths of 2-30 ${\mu}m$ has been investigated. In this paper, we analyzed the data of p-type TFTs. We studied threshold voltage ($V_{TH}$), on/off current ratio ($I_{ON}/I_{OFF}$), saturation current ($I_{DSAT}$), and transconductance ($g_m$) of p-channel poly-Si thin film transistors with various channel lengths and widths.

  • We propose the schemes for the dynamic channel allocation (DCA) in multi-cell OFDMA systems to avoid co-channel interference (CCI) without the additional complexity. The allocatable subcarriers areas, which is designed to avoid CCI among cells, are determined for each cell. Each cell allocates the subcarriers within the allocatable subcarriers area of the cell independently. We consider the trade off between the reduced frequency selection diversity and the amount of CCI on a subcarrier by the determination of allocatable subcarriers area. Hence, the equal allocation bound scheme for the high selectivity channel and the flexible allocation bound scheme for the low selectivity channel are proposed. Through the numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed schemes have better performance in the aspects of the number of overlapping allocated subcarriers, the capacity and the outage probability compared to the case which does not determined the allocatable subcarriers area.

  • This paper suggests an efficient and comprehensive algorithm of the protection ratio derivation and illustrates some calculated results applicable to the initial planning of frequency coordination in the fixed wireless access networks. The net filter discrimination associated with Tx spectrum mask and overall Rx filter characteristic has been also examined to show the effect of the adjacent channel interference. The calculations for co-channel and adjacent channel protection ratios are performed for the current microwave frequency band of 6.7 GHz including Tx spectrum mask and Rx filter response. According to results, fade margin and co-channel protection ratio reveal 41.4 and 75.2 dB, respectively, for 64-QAM and 60 km at BER $10^{-6}$. It is shown that the net filter discrimination with 40 MHz channel bandwidth provides 28.9 dB at the first adjacent channel, which yields 46.3 dB of adjacent channel protection ratio. In addition, the protection ratio of 38 GHz radio relay system is also reviewed for millimeter wave band applications. The proposed method gives some advantages of an easy and systematic extension for protection ratio calculation and is also applied to frequency coordination in fixed millimeter wave networks.

  • In this paper, the formulation of the protection ratio based upon a composite fade margin and availability is newly presented for the detailed planning of frequency coordination in the microwave relay system network, and computed results for co-channel and adjacent channel protection ratios are illustrated over an actual system with 6.2 GHz. It is shown that the protection ratio to assure a quality of service can be expressed in terms of the composite fade margin, noise-to-interference ratio, net filter discrimination, and system parameters. In addition, the net filter discrimination, depending upon the transmitter spectrum mask and the overall receiver filter characteristic, has been examined to investigate the effect of the adjacent channel protection ratio caused by the adjacent channel interference. Regarding simulated results for 6.2 GHz, 60 km, 64-QAM, and N/I=6 dB at the bit error rate of $10^{-6}$, composite fade margin and co-channel protection ratio yield 25.14 and 50.3 dB, respectively. Also, the net filter discrimination of 26.5 dB and the adjacent channel protection ratio of 23.8 dB are obtained at the first adjacent channel of 30 MHz. The proposed method provides some merits in view of a comprehensive and practical application with more detailed and various system parameters needed to access the criteria for making the proper frequency coordination.

  • In this paper, two optimization algorithms based on artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms are proposed for cellular radio channel assignment problems. The channel assignment process is characterized as minimization of the energy function which represents constraints of the channel assignment problems. All three constraints such as the co-channel constraint, the adjacent channel constraint and the co-site channel constraint are considered. In the neural networks approach, certain techniques such as the forced assignment and the changing cell order are developed, and in the genetic algorithms approach, data structure and proper genetic operators are developed to find optimal solutions, As simulation results, the convergence rates of the two approaches are presented and compared.
