  • Recently, explosion of internet user requires fundamental changes on the architecture of Web service system, from single server system to clustered server system, in parallel with the effort for improving the scalability of the single internet server system. But current cluster-based server systems are dedicated to the single application, for example, One-IP server system. One-IP server system has a clustered computing node with the same function and tries to distribute each request based on the If to the clustered node evenly. In this paper, we implemented the more useful application service platform. It works on shared clustered server(back-end server) with an application server(front-end server) for a particular service. An application server provides a particular service at a low load by itself, but as the load increases, it reconfigures itself with one or more available server from the shared cluster and distributes the load on selected server evenly We used PVM for an effective management of the clustered server. We found the implemented application service platform provides more stable and scalable operation characteristics and has remarkable performance improvement on the dynamic load changes.

  • In this paper, for continuous media access operations performed by Clustered Continuous Media Storage Server (CCMSS) system, we present the analytical model based on the open queueing network, which considers simultaneously two critical delay factors, the disk I/O and the internal network, in the CCMSS system. And we derive by using the analytical model the stochastic model for the total service delay time in the system. Next, we propose the integrated stochastic admission control model for the CCMSS system, which estimate the maximum number of admittable service requests at the allowable service failure rate by using the derived stochastic model and apply the derived number of requests in the admission control operation. For the performance evaluation of the proposed model, we evaluated the deadline miss rates by means of the previous stochastic model considering only the disk I/O and the propose stochastic model considering the disk I/O and the internal network, and compared the values with the results obtained from the simulation under the real cluster-based distributed media server environment. The evaluation showed that the proposed admission control policy reflects more precisely the delay factors in the CCMSS system.

  • Advances of the computer system and the high-speed network have made it possible to popularize the multimedia services among various applications in the internet. In addition, the number of the users and the kinds of multimedia services have been increasing day by day. Thus, this paper presents an internet live-broadcasting server system to accelerate these trends. The developed system facilitates creating or joining the broadcasting with just such basic components as PC camera and sound card. Also, it guarantees the scalability that the channels could be dynamically expanded as the population of users rapidly increases. The clustered streaming servers are generically managed by the CSM ...

  • In this paper, we address the issues related to storage and retrieval of continuous media (CM)data we face in designing multimedia on-demand (MOD) storage servers. To support the two orthogonal factors of MOD server design, i.e., storage and retrieval of CM data, this paper discusses the techniques of disk layout, disk striping and real-time disk scheduling, which are integrated as a combined solution to the high- performance MOD storage subsystem. The proposed clustered striping technique enables either a multiple-disk or a parallel system to guarantee a continuous retrieval of CM data at the bandwidth required to support user playback rate by avoiding the formation of I/O bottlenecks.

  • Increase of hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)-based video popularity causes that broadband and Internet service providers' links transmit mainly multimedia content. Network planning, traffic engineering or congestion control requires understanding of the statistical properties of network traffic; therefore, it is desirable to investigate the characteristic of traffic traces generated, among others, by systems which employ adaptive bit-rate streaming. In our work, we investigate traffic originating from 120 client-server pairs, situated in an emulated laboratory environment, and multiplexed onto a single network link. We show that the structure of the traffic is distinct from the structure generated by first and second generation of HTTP video systems, and furthermore, not similar to the structure of general Internet traffic. The obtained traffic exhibits negative correlations, anti-persistence, and its distribution function is skewed to the right. Furthermore, we show that the traffic generated by clients employing the same or similar play-out strategies is positively correlated and synchronised (clustered), whereas traffic originated from different play-out strategies shows negative or no correlations.
