Although low spatial resolution satellite images like MODIS and GOCI can be important to observe land surface, it is often difficult to visually interpret the imagery because of the low contrast by prevailing cloud covers. We proposed a simple and adaptive stretching algorithm to enhance image contrast over land areas in cloudy images. The proposed method is basically a linear algorithm that stretches only non-cloud pixels. The adaptive linear stretch method uses two values: the low limit (L) from image statistics and upper limit (U) from low boundary value of cloud pixels. The cloud pixel value was automatically determined by pre-developed empirical function for each spectral band. We used MODIS and GOCI images having various types of cloud distributions and coverage. The adaptive contrast stretching method was evaluated by both visual interpretation and statistical distribution of displayed brightness values.
We propose a new framework which expresses the mist and scratches of cracked ice by an impact. We combine the grid projection technique, boundary particles method, and level-set method commonly used in fluid simulations to determine the region on the surface of an ice object which is affected by a collision. Mist is then generated in proportion to the impact, and immediately diffused, using a geodesic distance field to limit dissipation. The gradient of the mist is subsequently used to create realistic patterns of scratches and elongated air bubbles. Cracks of the ice object can also be considered, and the density of the mist made to vary realistically between fragments. As a result, our method not only represents high-quality ice effects, but also allows easy integration into existing rigid body simulation solvers.

In estimates of horizontal radiation, its values are determined by correlations among the length of day, noon altitude of the sun, and cloud amount. During winter from 1971 to 1974 in Korea, its correlations are calculated by empirical method are $$Q_o=0.0124 H_cT_d at clear day and$$$$ Q_s=0.0124 H_cT_d (1-0.0C4^1.3) at cloudy day.$$ here$ Q_o, Q_s, H_c, T_d, C $ are horizontal radiation at clear day, horizontal radiation at cloudy day, noon altitude of the sun, length of day, and cloud amount. In applications of this equation at 10 stations in Korea, errors are less than 10% when cloud amount are less than 7, and 1O~20% when cloud amount are more than 7. But, according to Laevastu equation in same case, errors are 50% closely.
KOMPSAT-2 like other high-resolution satellites has the time and angle difference in the acquisition of the panchromatic (PAN) and multispectral (MS) images because the imaging systems have the offset of the charge coupled device combination in the focal plane. Due to the differences, high altitude and moving objects, such as clouds, have a different position between the PAN and MS images. Therefore, a mis-registration between the PAN and MS images occurs when a registration algorithm extracted matching points from these cloud objects. To overcome this problem, we proposed a new registration method. The main idea is to discard the matching points extracted from cloud boundaries by using an automatic thresholding technique and a classification technique on a distance disparity map of the matching points. The experimental result demonstrates the accuracy of the proposed method at ground region around cloud objects is higher than a general method which does not consider cloud objects. To evaluate the proposed method, we use KOMPSAT-2 cloudy images.

The behavior of glycogen and histological changes of hepatic tissues in the liver of rats, aged 6 to 7 weeks, fed 18% casein diet under control, gramoxone and gramoxone + vitamin C(Vt. C) diets has been investigated in a comined histropathological and histochemical studies. Cloudy swelling and fat changes of hepatic cells were observed in the gramoxone group with the duration of feeding time. Fat changes of hepatic cells were observed more obviously than cloudy welling, especially in the hepatic cells of periportal area. The number of Kupffer's cells increased signifciantly in the gramoxone group fed for 4weeks. The cloudy swelling and fat changes decreased obviously in the gramxone + Vt. C group. Glycogen content of heaptic cells tended to increase slightly in the gramoxone group as compared with the control group . moreover, glycogen depositons were higher in the hepatic cells where fat changes were obvious. It seems to be that Vt.C alleviating effects on the gramoxone toxicity in the patterns of glycogen distribution and histological structure of heaptic tissues.
Since PAN(panchromatic) and MS(multispectral) imagery of pushbroom scanner have the offset between PAN and MS CCD(charge coupled device) in the focal plane, PAN and MS images are acquired at different time and angle. Since clouds are fast moving objects, they should lead mis-registration problem with wrong matching points on clouds. The registration of cloudy imagery to recognize and remove the contamination of clouds can be categorized into three classes: (1) cloud is considered as nose and removed (2) employing multi-spectral imagery (3) using multi-temporal imagery. In this paper, method (1) and (3) are implemented and analysed with cloudy pushbroom scanner images.
An epidemic was occurred in Stephanolepis cirrhifer during acclimation in laboratory tanks (water temperature was about $17^{\circ}C$). Diseased fish showed an unique external sign, large cloudy skin surface. We investigated the cause of the disease, and isolated one pure cultured bacterium, that was identified as Vibrio anguillarum by biochemical analysis and sequence analysis of the l6S rRNA and recA genes. During the outbreak, about 30% of S. cirrhifer showed the large cloudy skin surface, and approximately 10% of the stocked fish died. Fish were effectively cured by treatment with oxolinic acid.
The aim of this research was to examine the thermal performance of the flat roof in proportion to various directional changes, the results of which were drawn from the miniature model experiment. In this process, various thermal environmental factors were measured and compared with one another to research their aspects of changes. The brief results of this research are as follows: 1) The indoor temperature and load per hour in proportion to directional changes shows the same degree of changes. As for the results of the clear-sky and cloudy-sky experiments, both of them generally appear advantageous in the order of S, $S-30^{\cire}C$-E, $S-30^{\cire}C$-W, $S-60^{\cire}C$-W, E, $S-60^{\cire}C$-E, despite slight differences in the indoor temperature and load per hour in proportion to directional changes. 2) As for the total load of degree day per direction of the clear-sky and cloudy-sky experiments, both of them shows their advantageous results in the order of S, $S-30^{\cire}C$-E, $S-30^{\cire}C$-W, $S-60^{\cire}C$-W, E, $S-60^{\cire}C$-E, despite minor differences in their loads. 3) As for the peak load of degree hour, while the clear-sky experiment shows its advantage in the order of $S-30^{\cire}C$-E, S, $-30^{\cire}C$-W, $S-60^{\cire}C$-W, E, $S-60^{\cire}C$-E, the cloudy-sky experiment does so in the order of S, $S-30^{\cire}C$-E, $S-30^{\cire}C$-W, E, $S-60^{\cire}C$-W, $S-60^{\cire}C$-E.
To estimate the radiative heat loss from greenhouses, a new equation for calculating the sky temperature is presented. The sky temperature in the Daegu region was measured using a pyrgeometer and calculated using different equations according to the cloudiness. The calculated and measured results were then compared to identify the best equation for calculating the sky temperature. The difference value between the air and sky temperature was dissimilar and increased as the cloud amount decreased. On clear days the difference value was 10~20 times greater than that on cloudy and rainy days. When analyzing the correlationship between the calculated and measured sky temperatures on clear days, Bliss's and Clark & Allen's equations were found to be superior to the other equations. However, on cloudy days, the best correlationship between the calculated and measured sky temperatures was exhibited by Fuentes's equation. Therefore, a new equation is proposed for calculating the sky temperature on a cloudy day.
Solar radiation data measured by pyranometers is of fundamental use in various fields. In the field of atmospheric optics, the measurement of solar energy must be precise, and the equipment needs to be maintained frequently. However, there seem to be many errors with the existing type of pyranometer, which is an element of the solar-energy observation apparatus. In particular, the error caused by the thermal dome effect occurs because of the thermal offset generated from a temperature difference between outer dome and inner casing. To resolve the thermal dome effect, intensive observation was conducted using the method and instrument designed by Ji and Tsay. The characteristics of the observed global solar radiation were analyzed by classifying the observation period into clear, cloudy, and rainy cases. For the clear-weather case, the temperature difference between the pyranometer's case and dome was highest, and the thermal dome effect was $0.88MJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$. Meanwhile, the thermal dome effect in the cloudy case was $0.69MJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$, because the reduced global solar radiation thus reduced the temperature difference between case and dome. In addition, the rainy case had the smallest temperature difference of $0.21MJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$. The quantification of this thermal dome effect with respect to the daily accumulated global solar radiation gives calculated errors in the cloudy, rainy, and clear cases of 6.53%, 6.38%, and 5.41% respectively.
