  • Nowadays, Korean consumers prefer drum-type washing machines to pulsator-type washers. Washing is a complex process involving the interaction of numerous physical and chemical influences. The main factors in the washing operations are the washing chemistry of the detergent along with the mechanical input, the wash temperature, and the time provided by the washing machine. Heavy-duty detergents that are used in drum-type washing machines contain different components from those used in vertical-axis washing machines. The bath ratio and the mechanical actions to which laundry is subjected are different between the drum-type and the vertical-axis washing machines. In this study we examined the effects of wash temperature, wash time, detergent concentration, and revolution speed on the removal of soils from artificially soiled cloths in a drum-type washing machine with heavy-duty commercial detergent. We used multiple regression analyses to find the relative importance of the factors and the optimum washing conditions. The results of these experiments showed that the washing temperature was the most important factor in the effective removal of most soils. This was followed by the washing time, the detergent concentration, and finally the revolution speed. In this study it was found that superfluous amounts of detergent did not sufficiently increase the soil removal rate. Koreans who are used to washing with cold water should increase the wash time to launder more efficiently.

  • Many varieties in folk costumes have inspired fashion designs for a long time. Each country, with a unique style of its own reflects their own traditions, beliefs, customs and morals into their traditional costumes. The traditional methods of creating different ways of drapery methods by using only a rectangular piece of cloth have been passed down from generation to generation and it is still used today. This way of styling has been developed mainly in the Middle East, Asia and Africa and the modifiable ways of creating drapery wearing methods are as follows. The first modifiable styling method is changing the purpose of wearing costumes according to the needs and the wants of the person who wears it. The second method is exposing the knots on the surface of the garments and by doing this, there was no visible difference on the aesthetic formation and it did not alternate for a long time. This means that simple knot shapes have been used to tie edges of rectangular fabrics. The third method is a wrapping type of modifiable styling method, which has been used most commonly in folk costumes because there are lots of ways to wrap a rectangular cloth around the body. The fourth way is the fixed type of modifiable styling method and this method can only be noticed only in the Moroccan Izar using fibulas and belts to alter the shape of the Izar. The fifth method is the composite type of modifiable styling method. This method starts by cutting out cylindrical shapes of fabrics and then wraps or twists it to fit the body. The most significant character of modifiable styling methods in folk costumes is to use rectangular cloths, which varies only in ratio of length, width and sizes. Therefore, this study suggests that rectangular cloths can create enormous amounts of fashion styling which can be easily adapted and created in everyday fashion life.

  • Chayacterlstics of the sophorolipid produced from Candida bombiocola were investigated as an emulsifier of oil, a detergent or as a dispersant. Improved emulsification of crude oil was observed at high temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) with less than 1% concentration. Sophorolipid solution produced little foam even at reduced surface tension, however performance as a detergent of soiled cloths was poor. Dispersing and stabilizing abilities of sophorolipid solution were proved to be superior to those of chemical dispersants when examined by dispersing $Fe_2O_3$ or carbon black powders.

  • Korean textile industry is faced a turning point, And the culture of a country itself is getting a main competetive items. Therefore, this study is focused upon developing fashion items of Korean image. For this study purpose, I carried out literature review and questionnaires were surveyed with 129 women, to see how Korean women interested in costume are conscious of Korean image and the way to develop Korean image fashion items. The study results are as follows. 1. To Koreans, the elements of Korean image were Hanbok(Korean traditional cloths) and Saeckdong(traditional multi-coloured stripes), but to foreigners they were national image. 2. To develop competetive fashion items of Korean image, I recommend as follows. - set up a typical key-word of Korean image - promote top designer - globalization of Hanbok - take advantage of 2002 Wold Cup - bring Korean image fashion into vogue to the younger from domestic to abroad - make Korean image into universal fashion - start with accessories, hats, bags, scarves

  • Alignment failure sometimes occurs during the rubbing process because the rubbing cloth comes in direct contacts with the surface of the alignment film. A number of researches observed and evaluated the surface of the alignment film after the rubbing process had been reported. The real-time rubbing process has not been observed directly yet, though. In this study, the movement of the piles of the rubbing cloth during the rubbing process was observed with a high-speed camera. Furthermore, the relationship between the rubbing scratch on the alignment films and the movement of the pile was investigated. It was found that the movement of the pile affected the rubbing scratches.

  • Ultra-fine fibers are spun by expensive fiber spinning technology using special spinnerets. Ultra-fine fibrous materials have attracted considerable attentions because of their potential applications as high performance wiping cloths, water absorbent sound proofing materials and moisture transfer sporting good. However, production expense of ultra-fine fibers is 5 to 7 times higher than general textile materials. The objective of this research is to develop cost-effective recycling process to produce multi-functional ultra-fine fibrous material in terms of the development of garnetting and carding machines for ultra-fine fibrous material waste and scrap. The efficiency of sound absorption for the recycled polyester nonwoven increased with decreasing length and thickness of component fibers, which was attributed to the reduction of air permeability. It is expected that high value and cost-effective textile products are developed using ultra-fine fibrous wastes and that sound proofing material and oil absorbent f

  • This study is a process of developing experimental Korean image fashion items that can appeal to the younger generation. The sample models are focused on jeans and T-shirts. This project had two goals. First, giving chance to the students of Konkuk-University of producing fashion items adopting Korean image in university venture company. Second, contributing to Korean image fashion market if the items have been proved to have competitive power through the market of Konkuk-University and it's cooperated company. The research is restricted within ornament techniques of Korean traditional dress and its ornament's element, they are patchwork wrapping-cloth(Chokakbo), embroidery, gold and silver foil on cloths, and transcription. Such Korean image elements are graphic patterned as 30 jeans and 50 T-shirts and eventually evaluated by 100 university students majoring in garments. The evaluation scale contains repletion of Korean image, possibility of market, and preference. Through this process, 6 jeans and 7 T-shirts were produced.
