  • Radio-loud active galaxies have been found to exhibit a close connection to galactic mergers and host galaxy star-formation quenching. We present preliminary results of an optical spectroscopic investigation of the AKARI NEP field. We focus on the population of radio-loud AGN and use photometric and spectroscopic information to study both their star-formation and nuclear activity components. Preliminary results show that radio-AGN are associated with early type, massive galaxies with relatively old stellar populations.

  • Aquilonastra doranae, a newly recorded sea star, was collected from the southern coast of Jejudo Island by a trimix SCUBA diving survey in May 2021. The newly collected specimen is distinguished from a previously known Aquilonastra species in South Korea by having a fissiparous body form with six arms. Results of pairwise genetic distance analysis showed that the new specimen was identical or close to A. anomala from Hawaii (0.0%), Australia (3.1%), and Samoa (3.3%). However, morphological characteristics of the Korean Aquilonastra specimen corresponded with the original description of A. doranae, not that of A. anomala, including the number of inferomarginal spines, the absence of pedicellariae, and the inhabit locality. Thus, this study agrees with the original morphological study of A. doranae and presents this specimen as the first record of A. doranae in South Korea.

  • In this work we present some geometric properties (like star-likeness and convexity of order ${\alpha}$ and also close-to-convexity of order ($1+{\alpha}$)/2) for normalized of Lommel functions of the first kind. In order to prove our main results, we use the technique of differential subordinations and some inequalities. Furthermore, we present some applications of convexity involving Lommel functions associated with the Hardy space of analytic functions, i.e., we obtain conditions for the function $h_{{\mu},{\upsilon}}(z)$ to belong to the Hardy space $H^p$.

  • We present new BVR CCD photometric light curves for the close binary star V445 Cep. A new photometric solution and absolute physical dimensions of the system were derived by applying the Wilson-Devinney program to our observed light curves and radial velocity curves published by Pych et al. The evolutional status of V445 Cep was found to coincide with those of the general low mass ratio contact binary systems.

  • Over the last decade, deep studies of nearby galaxies have led to the discovery of vast stellar envelopes that are often rich in substructure. These components are naturally predicted in models of hierarchical galaxy assembly, and their observed properties place important constraints on the amount, nature, and history of satellite accretion. One of the most effective ways of mapping the peripheral regions of galaxies is through resolved star studies. Using wide-field cameras equipped to 8 m class telescopes, it has recently become possible to extend these studies to systems beyond the Local Group. Located at a distance of 3.6 Mpc, M81 is a prime target for wide-field mapping of its resolved stellar content. In this talk, we present the detailed results from our deep wide-field imaging survey of the M81 group with the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC), on the Subaru Telescope. We report on the analysis of the structures, stellar populations, and metallicities of old dwarf galaxies such as NGC3077, IKN, KDG061, as well as young stellar systems such as Arp's Loop and Holmberg IX. Several candidates for yet-undiscovered faint dwarf galaxies and young stellar clumps in the M81 group will also be introduced. The peculiar galaxy NGC3077 has been classified as the irregular galaxy. Okamoto et al. (2015, ApJ 809, L1) discovered an extended halo structure with S-shape elongated tails, obvious feature of tidal interaction. With a help of numerical simulation by Penarrubia et al. (2009, ApJ 698, 222), we will demonstrate that this tidal feature was formed during the latest close encounters between M81, M82, and NGC 3077, which induced star formation in tidally stripped gas far from the main bodies of galaxies. It is not clear whether the latest tidal interaction was the first close encounters of three galaxies. If NGC3077 is still surrounded by the dark matter halo, it implies that NGC3077 has undergone the first tidal stripping by larger companions. Kinematic studies of inter galactic globular clusters and planetary nebulae would tell us the past history of tidal interaction in this group of galaxies.

  • We have reviewed the magnetic activity in close binaries. Solar like magnetic activity indicators such as photometric spots, chromo spheric emission, coronal X-ray and radio emission, and flare activity are commonplace in many cool stars with convective envelopes. Using the UV spectra we confirmed the strength of stellar activity increases with more rapid rotation and later spectral types which corresponds to the increasing depth of the star's convective envelope. Apart from very young stellar objects such as T Tauri stars, the stars with the highest levels of activity are close binary systems composed of cool stars, i.e., the chromospherically active binaries such as RS CVn, BY Dra, W UMa and related systems. The IUE low and high dispersion spectra of V711 Tau, VW Cep and SW Lac are used for ultraviolet photometry and for a variation study of chromospheric activity. Evidence of chromospherically activity is indicated by the intensity variation of the Mg II emission line with orbital phase.

  • The follow-up BVRI photometric observations of NSVS 1461538, which was discovered as an $Algol/{\beta}$ Lyr eclipsing variable by Hoffman, Harrison & McNamara (2009), were performed for three years from 2011 to 2013 by using the 61-cm telescope and CCD cameras of Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO). New light curves have deep depths both of the primary and secondary eclipses, rounded shapes outside eclipses and a strong O'Connell effect, indicating that NSVS 1461538 is a typical W UMa close binary system rather than an $Algol/{\beta}$ Lyr type binary star. A period study with all the timings shows that the orbital period may vary in a sinusoidal way with a period of about 5.6 yr and a small semi-amplitude of about 0.008 d. The cyclical period variation was interpreted as a light-time effect due to a tertiary body with a minimum mass of $0.66M{\odot}$. The first photometric solution with the Wilson-Devinney binary model shows that the system is a W-subtype contact binary with the mass ratio ($q=m_c/m_h$) of 3.46, orbit inclination of 85.6 deg and fill-out factor of 30%. From the existing empirical relationship between parameters, the absolute dimension was estimated. The masses and radii of the component stars are $0.28M{\odot}$ and $0.71R{\odot}$ for the less massive but hotter primary star, respectively, and $0.96M{\odot}$ and $1.21R{\odot}$ for the more massive secondary, respectively. Possible evolution of the system is discussed in the mass-radius and the mass-luminosity planes.

  • We present the results of simultaneous observations of SiO v=1 and 2, J=1-0 maser lines which were carried out with the combined network of the KVN and VERA in 2012 April. The observations were performed toward a long period OH/IR star, WX Psc in order to test the technical and scientific feasibilities of the KVN+VERA combination. The resultant (u, v) coverage of the KVN+VERA combined array enhances the image quality. We confirmed that the distribution and intensity of individual maser spots using the combined network are more reliable compared with the images using the KVN or VERA only. This observation also provides a chance to find a high sensitivity and imaging quality which are comparable to those of VLBA. In addition, the simultaneous observations of two SiO v=1 and 2, J=1-0 maser lines enable us to trace the detail physical environments close to the central star due to different high excitation conditions between two lines at a time.

  • A non-axisymmetric mass distribution of galactic structures including bulge (or bar) causes gas inflow from the disk to the nuclear region, including intense star formation within few hundred parsecs of galactic central. In order to investigate the relation between the ellipticity of the bulge and the presence of a nuclear starburst, we use a volume-limited sample of galaxies with Mr < -19.5 mag at 0.02 < z < 0.05 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7. Total sample is 3252 spiral galaxies, which include nuclear starburst galaxies. We find that the occurrence of nuclear starbursts has a moderate correlation with bulge ellipticity of intermediate-type spiral galaxies (morphology classes Sab-Sb) in low galaxy number density environments and isolated regions where the distance between the target galaxies and the closest galaxies is relatively far. In high galaxy number density environments and interacting regions, close encounters and mergers between galaxies can cause gas inflow to the nuclear region even without the presence of non-axisymmetric bulges.

  • Classical T Tauri star DG Tau is suggested as the driving source of parsec-scale jet which expands up to 650" (0.4 pc). To investigate the kinematics and physical properties of the jet, we have obtained the optical emission lines of $H{\alpha}$, [O I] ${\lambda}{\lambda}$6300, 6363, [N II] ${\lambda}{\lambda}$6548,6584, and [S II] ${\lambda}{\lambda}$6716, 6731 from HH 158 ad HH 702. The radial velocity of HH 158 is in the range of -50 to $-250km\;s^{-1}$. For HH 702, located at 650" from the source, it shows ~ $-80km\;s^{-1}$. In HH 158, the electron density ($n_e$) close to the star is ${\sim}10^4cm^{-3}$ and it decreases to ${\sim}10^2cm^{-3}$ at 14" away from the star. Electron temperature ($T_e$) is decreasing from >15,000 K to ~5,000 K with distance. Ionization fraction ($x_e$) is increasing from almost zero to > 0.4 along the distance. In HH 702, the values of $n_e$, $T_e$, and $x_e$ are similar to those estimated at 14" from source, where knot C of HH 158 is located. This may imply that the physical properties of the knot could persist through such a long distance in the space, and the gas could be re-excited by the shock during propagation of the jet. On the other hand, we cannot avoid the possibility that HH 702 is driven by another source rather than DG Tau because HH 158 and HH 702 show somewhat large difference in their inclination angles (${\Delta}i=21-35^{\circ}$).
