One-hundred eighty four medical doctors and 349 nurses out of 6 university hospitals and 1 general hospital were surveyed from Mar. 3, to Mar. 31, 1995, in order to appreciate the extent of their understandings on the clinical nurse specialist system. The difference was analyzed by the subjects' age, their position and department, the expected benefits of the system. the assigned department, the position and qualification, the required special educational organization and program, and the extent of autonomy of the function of clinical nurse specialists and the special nursing field. The results were as follows ; 1. The perception about the expected benefits of the introduction of clinical nurse specialist system was significantly different among the age groups of medical doctors, and the age group of 40s among them showed the most positive perception. 2. The extent of acquaintance with clinical nurse specialist was the higher in the older age groups of respondent nurses. Meanwhile, the experience of participation with clinical nurse specialists was the more in the older age group of medical doctors. 3. The opinion about the required position of clinical nurse specialists was significantly different by the age and position of the respondent nurses. The rank of head nurse was suggested by the respondent nurses of older age and higher positon, while the level of in-charge nurse was suggested by the staff nurses. Also, the duration of clinical experience required of clinical nurse specialists was the most frequently responded as 6 to 10 years by nurses, as 2 to 5 years by medical doctors. 4. The degree of educational background required of clinical nurse specialists was differently responded by the various position of medical doctors and nurses. Of the medical doctors, professors frequently responded bachelor degree and medical residents frequently responded master degree as the required educational background. Of the nurses, nursing administrators more frequently responded that master degree was required of clinical nurse specialists than staff nurses and clinical nurse specialists did. 5. The extent of acquaintance with clinical nurse specialist system was different among the various department of medical doctors, which was the highest in the doctors of psychiatry, internal medicine and pediatrics, respectively. The doctors of surgery were the least acquainted of clinical nurse specialist. 6. The nurses of special parts, of surgery and of obstetrics & pediatrics responded more frequently that clinical nurse specialists should belong to the nursing department than the nurses of internal medicine and of others did. 7. The Special parts that necessitate clinical nurse specialists were responded to be the more important by nurses than by medical doctors. Clinical nurse specialists were responded to be the more necessary in the parts of diabetics, oncology, pyschiatry, dialysis, organ transplantation, intensive care, and in cardiovascular part. This study was conducted to have better understanding of the students' experience in field practice by school health practice experience. The study subjects were 40 nursing students working in department of nursing K Univ. in C city. This study was approached by phenomenological method. Collected data were analyzed by Colaizzi's method. The results were from the protocol 980 significant statements and organized into 240 formulated meanings. From formulated meaning 89 themes were identified, organized into 18 them clusters, and then into 16 categories. The nursing students took part in the practice with (expectation and readiness) different from those of the clinical practice, expressed wonder at the school which had progressed much more than their primary schools used to be. They said that they began to feel (Fatigue and stress), and that experienced tension for the lack of nursing knowledge and skill during the health education and clinical treatment activity. In addition, they experienced 'ambivalence of satisfaction and something wanted', that is to say, they could have done better by means of video education and health education. The 10-day-school health practice brought about the change in( the image of teacher) and (cognition about the nursing teacher's role), made the students have(love to the client) and (desire to be nursing teacher), and then turned out experience benefical enough to be expressed 'satisfaction' However, they pointed out many problems in (School Eniviroment), (Clinic), (Physical assessment), (Recording and reporting), so they had a chance to apply the school nursing process to the school. The professor should play the role of promoting the learning through the field practice and providing the stimulant of learning to help the learner get as much from the field situation as they could. Therefore, I suggest that the students always have a chance to exchange actual affairs and educational study, and that the concrete discussion and continuous cooperation be done. The professors should keep doing their best to find the way to professors should keep doing their best to find the way to promote the ability of thinking through the process the learners experienced themselves.
Purpose: This study was done to develop and test a palliative care program based on home care nursing. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was employed. Changes in the variables were evaluated to test effects of the developed program. Participants were patients with terminal cancer and their families receiving home care nursing from six hospitals (experimental group: 24 and control group: 22). Data collection was conducted from February to October, 2006. Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test and repeated measures ANOVA were used to analyse the data. Results: Hypothesis 1, the experimental group receiving this program will experience less pain (severe, average, weak pain) than the control group, was supported. Hypothesis 2, the experimental group will have less symptom experience than the control group, was supported. Hypothesis 3, the experimental group will have higher QOL than the control group, was supported and the last hypothesis 4, family burden in the experimental group will be less than the control group, was supported. Conclusion: The home care nursing based palliative program developed in this study was found to be an effective program to reduce patient pain and symptom experience, to improve patient QOL and to decrease family burden.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to improve awareness of male dental hygiene by investigating the dentists' perception of male dental hygienists' image and work performance in clinical practice. T-tests were used to perform a comparative analysis of DCO and RCR items between patients and doctors by pre and post examinations. Results: The results indicate that there was a difference between the non-prior notice checklist items of the patients and doctors, while there was no difference of the post-examination checklist items between the patients and doctors. Conclusion: This study provides useful information and can be applied to the improvement of patient experience through healthcare service process innovation. The results of this study also offer practical insights about how hospitals can motivate providers to participate in healthcare service process for improved quality care by the Hawthorne effect. The study contributes to the existing knowledge of the Hawthorne effect for effective strategies for providing quality care.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the correlation among nurses' knowledge, performance, and stress about care for delirium. Methods: The data were collected using the instruments for knowledge about nursing care (50 items), performance (23 items), and stress (20 items). Descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data of 222 participants. Results: Nursing knowledge were different by clinical experience (F=3.12, p=.016), position at work (t=-2.54, p=.012), experience in caring patients with delirium (t=3.90, p<.001), and conflicts with other disciplines on matters related to delirium (t=4.00, p=.001). The difference in performance were associated with age (F=4.19, p=.001), clinical experience (F=2.67, p=.003), and whether there was a guideline for managing the patients with delirium (t=2.30, p=.022). Stress of nurses was different by whether they had a religion or not (t=-2.41, p=.017). The knowledge of care for delirium had the positive relationship with performance (r=.21, p=.001) and negative relationship with stress (r=-.29, p=.001). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop educational program and guideline for improving the knowledge and performance in care for delirium among nurses working at orthopedic hospitals.
