  • These days, the fuzzy logic or the fuzzy set theory has received attention from a number of researchers in the area of industrial application. Moreover, the fuzzy logic control has been successfully applied to a large numbers of control problems where the conventional control methods had failed. Using this control theory we designed a climate controller for an automotive climate control system whose mathematical model is difficult. This paper describes an automotive climate control where the fuzzy control has been used to stabilize parameter uncertainties and disturbance effects. To show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed control method, the fuzzy logic controller was implemented with a philips 80C552 microcomputer chip and tested in an actual vehicle. From the experimental results, it could be conduced that the proposed controller is superior to conventional controllers in both control performance and thermal comfort. The climate control system in cars is difficult to model mathematically so we tested a fuzzy logic control system which promised better results.

  • This study analyzes the long-run impacts of climate change on Korean agriculture and economy. We estimate the impacts of climate change on the productivities of major agricultural products including rice, dairy and livestock using both a simulation approach and a semiparametric econometric model. The former predicts a decline in productivity while the latter predicts an increase in productivity due to climate change, especially for rice. A recursive dynamic CGE model is used to analyze the general equilibrium impacts of productivity change under the two different scenarios, derived from the two productivity analysis approaches. The loss of GDP in 2050 is 0.2% or 0.02% of total GDP depending on the scenario. It is shown that the losses in dairy and livestock sectors are larger than that in rice sector, although the losses in those two non-rice sectors have been ignored by most existing works.

  • Construction and urban development projects that drove urbanization were perceived as a main culprit that disturbs environment and ecosystems, including urban heat island, air pollution and a decrease in species diversity in urban area, as they do not consider natural environment and adopt consistent development behaviors and rapidly degrade the ecology of development sites. In order to build a sustainable green wall system, design process is configured as follows based on basic technology development direction, climate environment elements, climate design technology elements suggested earlier. Each part of required technology element is codified systematically and a sound Korean-style green wall system design direction will be suggested.

  • Research articles in food related to climate change were analyzed by implementing a text-mining algorithm, which is one of nonstructural data analysis tools in big data analysis with a focus on frequencies of terms appearing in the abstracts. As a first step, a term-document matrix was established, followed by implementing a hierarchical clustering algorithm based on dissimilarities among the selected terms and expertise in the field to classify the documents under consideration into a few labeled groups. Through this research, we were able to find out important topics appearing in the field of food related to climate change and their trends over past years. It is expected that the results of the article can be utilized for future research to make systematic responses and adaptation to climate change.

  • Recently, the weather has been influenced by the environmental pollution and the oil price has been risen because of the lack of resources. So, the weather and energy are influencing on not only enterprises or nations, but also individual daily life and economic activities very much. Because of these reasons, there are so many researches about management of solar radiation needed to develope solar energy as alternative energy. And many researchers are also interested in identifying the area according to changing characteristics of climate data. However, the researches have not developed how to apply the cluster analysis, retrieval and analytical results according to the characteristics of the area through data mining. In this paper, we design a data model of the data for storing and managing the climate data tested in twenty cities in the domestic area. And we provide the information according to the characteristics of the area after clustering the domestic climate data, using k-means clustering algorithm. And we suggest the way how to apply the department store and amusement park as an applied weather marketing. The proposed system is useful for constructing the database about the weather marketing and for providing the elements and analysis information.

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate and evaluate the impact of climate change on the runoff and water resources of Yongdam basin. First, we construct global climate change scenarios using the YONU GCM control run and transient experiments, then transform the YONV GCM grid-box predictions with coarse resolution of climate change into the site-specific values by statistical downscaling techniques. The values are used to modify the parameters of the stochastic weather generator model for the simulation of the site-specific daily weather time series. The weather series fed into a semi-distributed hydrological model called SLURP to simulate the streamflows associated with other water resources for the condition of $2CO_2$. This approach is applied to the Yongdam dam basin in southern part of Korea. The results show that under the condition of $2CO_2$, about 7.6% of annual mean streamflow is reduced when it is compared with the observed one. And while Seasonal streamflows in the winter and autumn are increased, a streamflow in the summer is decreased. However, the seasonality of the simulated series is similar to the observed pattern.

  • This study evaluated the environmental impact based on watershed characteristics and climate change using RCP climate change scenarios provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration. Future dam inflow was estimated by the SWAT model. Dam safety evaluation and downstream duration curve analysis was performed using HEC-ResSim model. Trends of water quality was analyzed through seasonal-Kendall Test using existing water quality observation data. Release discharge and tributary runoff derived SWAT and HEC-ResSim models applied to Qual2E and the future change in water quality trends were analyzed. Integrated environmental review watershed following techniques will be able to obtain the river environment management system and environmental issues such as climate change, new guidelines for preemptively response will be provided.

  • In this study, robustness index and uncertainty analysis were proposed to quantify the risk inherent in the process of climate change vulnerability assessment. The water supply vulnerability for six metropolitan cities (Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Ulsan), except for Seoul, were prioritized using TOPSIS, a kind of multi-criteria decision making method. The robustness index was used to analyze the possibility of rank reversal and the uncertainty analysis was introduced to derive the minimum changed weights of the criteria that determine the rank reversal between any paired cities. As a result, Incheon and Daegu were found to be very vulnerable and Daegu and Busan were derived to be very sensitive. Although Daegu was relatively vulnerable against the other cities, it can be largely improved by developing and performing various climate change adaptation measures because it is more sensitive. This study can be used as a preliminary assessment for establishing and planning climate change adaptation measure.

  • The objective of this study is to project and analyze drought conditions using future climate and hydrology information over South Korea. This study used three Global Climate Models (GCMs) and three hydrological models considering the uncertainty of future scenario. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Standardized Runoff Index (SRI) and Standardized Soil moisture Index (SSI) classified as meteorological, hydrological and agricultural droughts were estimated from the precipitation, runoff and soil moisture. The Mann-Kendall test showed high increase in future drought trend during spring and winter seasons, and the drought frequency of SRI and SSI is expected higher than that of SPI. These results show the high impact of climate change on hydrological and agriculture drought compared to meteorological drought.

  • This study intended to explain the relationship between climate change and magnetic susceptibility of estuarine sediment. Data of OSL dating and magnetic susceptibility from estuarine tidal sediment were compared with various climate change data. During the last Holocene, the intense of magnetic susceptibility related with weaker Siberian High and stronger Asian Summer Monsoon. It is explained that high precipitation and runoff made much fluvial sediment input to the estuary. From the early to mid Holocene, there is no clear relationship between climate change and MS because of the much coastal sediment input caused by rapid sea level rise and the formation of upland soil and coastal marsh. These results contribute to reconstruct paleo-environmental changes of west coast of Korea, in the way of using benefit of ubiquitous estuarine tidal flats and relatively useful magnetic susceptibility methodoloy.
