드라이아이스 펠렛 세정 장치 및 공정개발 (Development of Equipment and Process on Dry Ice Blasting)

  • 액체 탄산의 단열팽창하여 얻은 드라이아이스 snow로부터의 펠렛제조기와 이들 펠렛을 이용한 표면 세정용 블래스팅 장치를 설계 제작하였다. 본 블래스팅 장치는 적은 압력과 적은 량의 공기로도 다양한 오염물질 녹, 기름때, 라커막, 페인트 제거에 강한 세정력을 얻을 수 있었다. 이 때 호퍼 용량은 12 kg이고, 펠렛 분사량은 0-1.2 kg/min 까지 조절이 가능하였다. 드라이아이스 펠렛의 impact는 한계 거리 안에서는 거리에 무관하며, 드라이아이스 분사의 impact stress, 각도 및 질량 속도에 의존하였다. 또한 블래스팅의 세정력은 impact와 대상 물질의 열적 성질 및 표면 조도에 의존하였으며, 유리, 구리, 황동, 강철, 아크릴 기판의 순서로 감소하였다. 그리고 세정 속도는 같은 기판에 붙은 오염물의 경도, 부착력에 의존하였으며 그리스, 에폭시, 페인트 순으로 감소하였다. 사용 중 소음도는 대략 85-100 dBA이었다.

잉크 색상 변화가 존재하는 인쇄 공정의 스케줄링 (Scheduling of Printing Process in which Ink Color Changes Exist)

  • The printing process can have to print various colors with a limited capacity of printing facility such as ink containers that are needed cleaning to change color. In each container, cleaning time exists to assign corresponding inks, and it is considered as the setup cost required to reduce the increasing productivity. The existing manual method, which is based on the worker's experience or intuition, is difficult to respond to the diversification of color requirements, mathematical modeling and algorithms are suggested for efficient scheduling. In this study, we propose a new type of scheduling problem for the printing process. First, we suggest a mathematical model that optimizes the color assignment and scheduling. Although the suggested model guarantees global optimality, it needs a lot of computational time to solve. Thus, we decompose the original problem into sequencing orders and allocating ink problems. An approximate function is used to compute the job scheduling, and local search heuristic based on 2-opt algorithm is suggested for reducing computational time. In order to verify the effectiveness of our method, we compared the algorithms' performance. The results show that the suggested decomposition structure can find acceptable solutions within a reasonable time. Also, we present schematized results for field application.

DEVELOPMENT OF ADSORBENT USING BYPRODUCTS FROM KOREAN MEDICINE FOR REMOVING HEAVY METALS

  • Most of the herb residue producing from oriental medical clinics(OMC) and hospitals(OMH) is wasted in Korea. To develop of adsorbent for removing heavy metal from wastewater, the various pre-treatment methods of the herb residue were evaluated by potentiometric titration, Freundlich isotherm adsorption test and the kinetic adsorption test. The herb residue was pre-treated for increasing the adsorption capacity by cleaning with distilled water, 0.1 N HCl and 0.1 N NaOH and by heating at $370^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. It showed a typical weak acid-weak base titration curve and a short pH break like commercial activated carbon during photentiometric titration of pre-treated herb residue. The log-log plots in the Freundlich isotherm test were linear on the herb residue pre-treated with NaOH or HCl like commercial activated carbon. The adsorption capacity(qe) in the Freundlich isotherm test for $Cr^{6+}$ was 1.5 times higher in the pre-treated herb residue with HCl than in activated carbon. On the other hand the herb residue pre-treated with NaOH showed the good adsorption capacities for $Pb^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ and $Cd^{2+}$ even though those adsorption capacities were lower than that of activated carbon. In kinetic test, most of heavy metals removed within the first 10 min of contact and then approached to equilibrium with increasing contact time. The removal rate of heavy metals increased with an increase of the amount of adsorbent. Likewise, the removal rates of heavy metals were higher in the herb residue pre-treated with NaOH than in that pre-treated with HCl. The adsorption preference of herb residues pre-treated with NaOH or HCl was $Pb^{2+}>Cu^{2+}$ or $Cd^{2+}>Cr^{6+}$ in the order. Conclusively, the herb residue can be used as an alternative adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals depending on pr-treatment methods.

인 흡착을 위한 Mill Scale 전처리 및 Magnetite 제조 연구 (A Study on the Mill Scale Pretreatment and Magnetite Production for Phosphate Adsorption)

  • 철강공장의 열연공정에서 발생하는 폐부산물인 mill scale을 원료로 하여 인흡착에 효율적인 무기흡착제인 magnetite를 생산하고자 하였다. Mill scale의 주요 구성성분은 wustite (FeO), magnetite (FeO), hematite (FeO)였으며, 산처리를 수행할 경우 대부분의 wustite가 magnetite와 hematite로 전환되었다. Mill scale의 산처리는 HCl과 $H_2O_2$를 이용하여, 염기처리는 NaOH 이용하여, 산-염기 복합처리는 $H_2SO_4$와 NaOH를 이용하여 수행하였다. Oil 제거 및 DI water로 rinsing만 한 경우, 인 흡착용량은 0.28 mgP/g으로 나타난 반면, 염기처리를 한 경우 0.68, 산처리를 한 경우 1.19 mgP/g으로 인 흡착용량이 증가하였다. 산-염기 복합처리 과정을 통해 단일상의 magnetite 입자를 얻을 수 있었으며, 이 입자의 인 흡착용량은 3.11 mgP/g 이상인 것으로 파악되었다. 산화철의 인 흡착에 대한 동력학적 특성 분석결과 Freundlich와 Langmuir 두 등온 흡착모델 모두 magnetite의 인 흡착 거동을 잘 모사하였다. Freundlich 모델의 흡착능(K)과 흡착강도(1/n)를 조사한 결과, 온도가 증가할수록 강한 흡착능을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. Langmuir 모델 적용결과 최대 흡착용량은 $20^{\circ}C$에서 5.1 mgP/g인 것으로 파악되었다.

Experimental investigation of effects of sand contamination on strain modulus of railway ballast

  • Ballast layer has an important role in vertical stiffness and stability of railway track. In most of the Middle East countries and some of the Asian ones, significant parts of railway lines pass through desert areas where the track (particularly ballast layer) is contaminated with sands. Despite considerable number of derailments reported in the sand contaminated tracks, there is a lack of sufficient studies on the influences of sand contamination on the ballast vertical stiffness as the main indicator of track stability. Addressing this limitation, the effects of sand contamination on the mechanical behavior of ballast were experimentally investigated. For this purpose, laboratory tests (plate load test) on ballast samples with different levels of sand contamination were carried out. The results obtained were analyzed leading to derive mathematical expressions for the strain modulus ($E_V$) as a function of the ballast level of contamination. The $E_V$ was used as an index for evaluation of the load-deformation characteristics and bearing capacity of track substructure. The critical limit of sand contamination, after which the $E_V$ of the ballast reduces drastically, was obtained. It was shown that the obtained research results improve the current track maintenance approach by providing key guides for the optimization of ballast maintenance planning (the timing of ballast cleaning or renewal).

MF막여과 정수처리에서 장기운전 결과 및 DRF를 이용한 침지식 / 가압식 시스템의 비교 평가 (Comparition of Submerged / Pressurized Type Membrane System by DRF and Long-Term Results in MF Drinking Water Treatment)

  • In Korea, most of the drinking water treatment relied upon the availability of the surface water, of which the raw water quality varied significantly by season and location. Therefore, the comparison of two operation modes (Pressurized type and Submerged type membrane system) must be estimated before the long-term establishment of two systems. In this study, two pilot-scale microfiltration systems with the capacity of $50m^3/day$ were installed and operated in two different modes, and the applicability of the system was determined based on the results such as the TMP (Trans-Membrane Pressure) and flux. For quantitatively comparing the two systems, a new concept, DRF (Differential Resistance Fraction) was introduced. The accumulated sum of the permeate after each cycle of chemical cleaning was also used as a tool for the system comparison.

시뮬레이션을 이용한 전동차사무소 수행도 평가 (Performance Analysis of Electric Rail Car Office Using Computer Simulation)

  • A performance analysis for newly being considered electric rail car office has been made in this study. The major purpose is to examine a proposed design in terms of its capacity and the proposed number of travels (82-84) per day. For this study we first examined the overall system configuration with detailed operational processes of cleaning and inspection. We then developed a simulation model using ARENA and designed input data from 12 selected factors and their interaction effects. A simulation run for each treatment combination of $L_{16}(2^{15})$ orthogonal array was run and 20 batch means were obtained. Through careful analyses of the results obtained, we drew a diversity of suggestions including the best factor level combination. Our confirmation experiments at the optimal level combination further validate the possibility of 82 runs and the consistency in the results.

Design and Construction of a Pick-up Type Pulse Crop Harvester

  • Purpose: This aim of this study was to develop a pick-up type pulse crop harvester for harvesting cut and dried pulse crop. Methods: The pick-up type pulse crop harvester was designed and constructed. Its specifications and operating performance were investigated. Results: Compared with conventional bean harvesters, the pick-up type pulse crop harvester adopted seven rows of chains with tines to pick-up the cut and dried pulse crop on a flat or ridged field, two transverse threshing drums with steel wire teeth to reduce the threshing speed, and a tilt plate and plastic bucket elevator for conveying clean grain to reduce damage. The threshing speed and the oscillating frequency of the separating and cleaning parts according to crop type and condition could be varied easily to efficiently use engine power and to improve harvesting performance. The harvester showed forward speed ranges of 0 ~ 1.5 m/s during harvesting operation, and 0 ~ 2.5 m/s during road travelling. The pick-up width of the harvester was about 1 m. Conclusions: The pick-up type self-propelled 51.5 kW harvester was designed and constructed to harvest cut and dried pulse crop. The effective field capacity of the harvester was predicted as above 40 a/h.

Slim hole 경사 환형관내 고-액 혼합유동 특성에 관한 연구 (Solid-liquid mixture flow characteristics in an inclined slim hole annulus)

  • An experimental study was carried out to study the solid-liquid mixture upward flow in a vertical and inclined annulus with rotating inner cylinder. Lift forces acting on a fluidized particle plays a central role in many importance applications, such as the removal of drill cuttings in horizontal drill holes, sand transport in fractured reservoirs, sediment transport and cleaning of particles from surfaces, etc. Field measurements have revealed that the pressure drop over a borehole during drilling of a slim oil well or a well with a long reach can depend significantly on the rotation speed of the drill pipe. An accurate prediction of the annular frictional pressure drop is therefore important for conditions where the annular clearance is small. Effect of annulus inclination and drill pipe rotation on the carrying capacity of drilling fluid, particle rising velocity, and pressure drop in the slim hole annulus have been measured for fully developed flows of water and of aqueous solutions.

Numerical Predictions of Heat Transfer in the Fluidized Bed Heat Exchanger

  • The numerical analysis by using CFX 11.0 commercial code was done for proper design of the heat exchanger. The present experimental studies were also conducted to investigate the effects of circulating solid particles on the characteristics of fluid flow, heat transfer and cleaning effect in the fluidized bed vertical shell and tube type heat exchanger with counterflow, at which a variety of solid particles such as glass ($3mm{\Phi}$), aluminum ($2{\sim}3mm{\Phi}$), steel ($2{\sim}2.5mm{\Phi}$), copper ($2.5mm{\Phi}$) and sand ($2{\sim}4mm{\Phi}$) were used in the fluidized bed with a smooth tube. Seven different solid particles have the same volume, and the effects of various parameters such as water flow rates, particle diameter, materials and geometry were investigated. The present experimental and numerical results showed that the flow velocity range for collision of particles to the tube wall was higher with heavier density solid particles, and the increase in heat transfer was in the order of sand, copper, steel, aluminum, and glass. This behavior might be attributed to the parameters such as surface roughness or particle heat capacity.
