  • Vortices terminating at free surface have been investigated extensively. however. are focused on surface parallel vortices and little has been known about surface normal vortex or columnar vortex. Visualized experimental results utilizing LlF technique are discussed for the purpose of characterization of columnar vortex interacting with a clean and a contaminated free surfaces and a solid body interface in the present investigation. The results reveal that surface tension changes due to surface contamination although bulk viscosity remains constant and eventually the behavior of a columnar vortex interacting with a contaminated free surface and a solid body interface are totally different from the clean free surface case.

  • In this paper we apply PMC (parallel model combination) to speech recognition system online. As a representative of model based noise compensation techniques, PMC compensates environmental mismatch by combining pretrained clean speech models and real-time estimated noise information. This is very effective approach for compensating extreme environmental mismatch but is inadequate to use in on-line system for heavy computational cost. To reduce the computational cost and to apply PMC online, we use a noise masking effect - the energy in a frequency band is dominated either by clean speech energy or by noise energy - in the process of model compensation. Experiments on artificially produced noisy speech data confirm that the proposed technique is fast and effective for the on-line model compensation.

  • In 2006, the coal usage that is used as energy source of power plant will meet 16,000 MW which is 30% of the whole energy usage. A Coal deposits among the fossil fuels is very plentiful in natural resources and has high economical efficiency but application technique is very inconvenient. Also when burned for utilization, it generate various toxic and untoxic air pollution materials; fly ash, bottom ash, sulfurous acid gas etc. In this study, we could establish a preparation of clean coal by triboelectrostatic separation. In this study, we made a bench-scale's triboelectrostatic separation equipment using electrostatic technology, and got an optimum conditions of various factors for increasing recovery rate and purification in separation. A test result, we got a clean coal that recovery rate is 68.10%, rejection rate of ash and sulfur content is 31.23% and 28.33%.

  • This research is about the result of leakage current waveform about the situation of surface leakage current and environmental changes(Salt fog, clean fog and rain) by EPDM polymer insulators' amount of salt. The researcher presents the result of changing about fundamental harmonic, 3rd harmonic and 5th harmonic from starting point of supplying power to flashover. In this study, researched environmental affects (clean fog, salt fog and .am) about surface aging of polymer insulators and used frequency spectrum of leakage current waveform to develop the diagnostic technique of surface aging. When amount of salt contents changed, surface aging stage and the degree of aging (distortion factor) about 3rd and 5th harmonir waveform on low frequency harmonic wave. The distortion factor which is harmonic percentage about basic harmonic is important pointer to evaluate the surface condition of polymer insulators.

  • Synthesis of well-defined particle with tunable size, shape, and functionalities is strongly emphasized for various applications such as chemistry, biology, material science, chemical engineering, medicine, and biotechnology. This study presents micromolding method for the fabrication of anisotropic particles with elegant control of curvature of covex roof. For the demostration of rapid fabrication of the particles, we have applied polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) micromold as structure guiding template and wetting fluid to control curvature of roof of the particles. Based on this approach, we can control the radius of curvature from $20{\mu}m$ to $70{\mu}m$ with different aspect ratio of mold. In addition, wetting fluids with different wetting properties can also modulate the height and radius of curvature of the particles. We envision that this methodology is promising tool for precise control of particle shape in 3-dimensional space and new synthetic route for anisotropic particles with cost effective, simple, easy, and fast procedure.

  • Marine sediment capping is a technique where clean sand is placed over contaminated sediment to reduce the migration of contaminants to the environment. The design of in-situ caps placed over marine sediment must take into consideration the self-weight consolidation of the cap and the consolidation of the sediment as a result of adding the cap layer. Centrifuge tests were adopted to simulate the effects of consolidation settlement of capped marine sediment caused by the placement of a clean sand layer. The modeling of models technique was utilized to verify the correct modeling procedures used in this study. Two centrifuge tests were conducted with the same boundary conditions at different gravitational accelerations of 100 g and 50 g. There was good agreement between these tests. It can be concluded that the centrifuge experiment is able to model consolidation settlement of capped marine sediment.

  • Neurosurgeons have been trying to reduce surgical invasiveness by applying minimally invasive keyhole approaches. Therefore, this paper clarifies the detailed surgical technique, its limitations, proper indications, and contraindications for a superciliary keyhole approach as a minimally invasive modification of a pterional approach. Successful superciliary keyhole surgery for unruptured aneurysms requires an understanding of the limitations and the use of special surgical techniques. Essentially, this means the effective selection of surgical indications, usage of the appropriate surgical instruments with a tubular shaft, and refined surgical techniques, including straightforward access to the aneurysm, clean surgical dissection, and the application of clips with an appropriate configuration. A superciliary keyhole approach allows unruptured anterior circulation aneurysms to be clipped safely, rapidly, and less invasively on the basis of appropriate surgical indications.

  • This study presents a novel and eco-friendly process that can precisely control the location of the patches on the patch particles. The method of manufacturing these anisotropic hexagram patch particles consists of sequential combinations of two separate methods such as a sequential micromolding technique for fabricating patch particles and a selective localization method for controlling the location of patches on the patch particles. The micromolding technique was carried out using physicochemically stable material as a micromold. In order to fabricate the highly stable patch anisotropic hexagram particles, the perfluoropolyether (PFPE) micromold was used to the process of the micromolding technique because they could prevent the problem of diffusion of hydrophobic monomers while conventional poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) micromold is limited to prevent the problem of diffusion of hydrophobic monomers. Based on combination methods of the micromolding technique and the selective localization method, the reproducibility and stability have been improved to fabricate 12 different types of anisotropic hexagram patch particles. This fabrication method shows the unique advantages in eco-friend condition, easy and fast fabrication due to less number of process, the feasibility of a mass production. We believe that these anisotropic hexagram patch particles can be widely utilized to the field of the directional self-assembly.

  • Purpose: Lacerations requiring formal wound closure compose a significant number of all childhood injuries presenting to the emergency department. The problem with conventional suture technique are that suture removal is quite cumbersome, especially in children. Unwanted soft tissue damage can result in the process of suture removal, which calls for sedation, stressful for both medical personnel and child. The purpose of this study is to introduce the convenient suture technique for pediatric facial lacerations. Methods: Children under the age of four, presenting to the emergency department with facial lacerations were enrolled in the study. From March 2008 to June 2009, 63 patients (41 males and 22 females) with an average age of 1.4 years were treated with our convenient suture technique using utilized a loop suspended above a double, flat tie. Clean, tension free wounds were treated with our technique, wounds with significant skin defect and concomitant fractures were excluded. Results: The Patients were followed-up in 1, 3 and 5 days postoperatively. On the third hospital visit, suture removal was done by simply cutting the loop suspended above the wound margin and gently pulling the thread with forceps. There were no significant differences in the rates of infection and dehiscence compared with conventional suture technique. Conclusion: The use of our technique was to be simple with similar operative time compared with conventional suture technique. Removal of suture materials were easy without unwanted injuries to the surrounding tissue which resulted in less discomfort for the patient and greater parental satisfaction, minimized the complications. It can be considered as a viable alternative in the repair of pediatric facial lacerations.
