  • This report is researched on the cause and mechanism of soil erosion in comparison among Kwangnung, Mt. Kaya, Mt. Chili, and Mt. Soorak by physical and chemical analyses of their for- est soils. Clay, silt, and fine sand of Mt. Soorak are far less than those of Mt. Chili, Mt. Kaya, and Kwangnung area while coarse sand is very high level. The clay ratio of soil at Mt. Soorak is the most high level in comparison with that of other area. Denudation at Mt. Soorak, therefore, is cause of erosion by the result of transportation of soil particles. The eroding velocity increase for larger particle size and stronger cohesion between soil particles. Very fine sand, silt, and clay can be present in suspension near the bottom and the size of the particles in suspension depends upon the velocity of the current near the bottom and the roughness of the bottom. 고농도 염화칼슘 농도처리에 따른 토양개량제와 구절초의 염분저감 상승효과 (Synergistic Effects for Remediation of Salt-affected Soil using Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum and Soil Amendments under High-concentration Calcium Chloride)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of soil amendment (heat-expanded clay and active carbon) and planting of Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum on the remediation of salt-affected soil and the plant growth under high calcium chloride (CaCl2) concentration. The experimental group comprised treatments including Non treatment (Cont.), heat-expanded clay (H), active carbon (AC), planting (P), heat-expanded clay+planting (H+P), active carbon+planting (AC+P). A 200 mL solution of CaCl2 at a concentration of 10 g·L-1 was applied as irrigation once every 2 weeks. Compared to the Cont., the incorporation of the 'heat-expanded clay' amendment decreased electrical conductivity of the soil leachate and cation exchange capacity, whereas the growth of Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum was relatively increased. These results suggest that the combination of 'heat-expanded clay' amendment and planting will mitigate negative effect of de-icing salts and improve plant growth in salt-contaminated roadside soils.

한강에서 분리한 이종 coliphage의 동정과 점토질에 대한 흡착 및 용출효과 (Identification of two coliphages from Han-river and its adsorption-elution effect on soil materials)

  • Coliphages isolated from Han-River from September 1980 to August 1981 were classified by morphological and physiological characteristics. Effects of soil metrial on the fate of coliphage in nature were investigated. 1. The correlation coefficient between coliphage and E.coli which was host of coliphages in nature was 0.7173 (p=0.004). 2. Coliphage I isolated from Han-River of which DNA molecular weight was $27{\times}10^6$ daltons was identified as $T_1$ phage and coliphage II of which DNA molecular weight $72{\times}10^6$ daltons was classified as $T_5$ phage. 3. Soil material SW was composed of 63.65% silt and 21.92% clay. Clay was consisted of illite, kaolinite and chlorite evenly. Soil material J was composed of 68.92% silt and 11.67% clay. Clay consisted of smectite only. 4. Coliphage was absorbed to soil material J more than soil material SW, and $T_1$ coliphage was absorbed to soil material more than $T_5$ coliphage was. 5. The phage adsorption efficiency to soil material was enhanced at lower pH : the phage adsorption efficiency at pH 4 was 27 time higher than at pH 7. 6. Divalent $(Ca^{2+})\;and\;trivalention\;(Al^{3+})$ enhanced the phage adsorption efficiency to soil material from 4 to 39 and from 17 to 91 times higher than monovalent $ion(Na^+)$, respectively. 7. The concentration of organic compound was inversely related to the phage adsorption efficiency to soil. 8. Adsorption of phage onto soil material, and elution efficiency of elutants was in the order of D.D.W>tap water>river water>seawater. 9. The higher the concentration of organic compound was, the more were adsorbed phages to soil eluted. 10. Coliphages survived longer in sterile soil suspension than in nonsterile soil material suspension.

Stabilization of oily contaminated clay soils using new materials: Micro and macro structural investigation

  • Clay soils have a big potential to become contaminated with the oil derivatives because they cover a vast area of the earth. The oil derivatives diffusion in the soil lead to soil contamination and changes the physical and mechanical properties of the soil specially clay soils. Soil stabilization by using new material is very important for geotechnical engineers in order to improve the engineering properties of the soil. The main subjects of this research are a- to investigate the effect of the cement and epoxy resin mixtures on the stabilization and on the mechanical parameters as well as the microstructural properties of clay soils contaminated with gasoline and kerosene, b- study on the phenomenon of clay concrete development. Practical engineering indexes such as Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS), elastic modulus, toughness, elastic and plastic strains are all obtained during the course of experiments and are used to determine the optimum amount of additives (cement and epoxy resin) to reach a practical stabilization method. Microstructural tests were also conducted on the specimens to study the changes in the nature and texture of the soil. Results obtained indicated that by adding epoxy resin to the contaminated soil specimens, the strength and deformational properties are increased from 100 to 1500 times as that of original soils. Further, the UCS of some stabilized specimens reached 40 MPa which exceeded the strength of normal concrete. It is interesting to note that, in contrast to the normal concrete, the strength and deformational properties of such stabilized specimens (including UCS, toughness and strain at failure) are simultaneously increased which further indicate on suitability and applicability of the current stabilization method. It was also observed that increasing cement additive to the soil has negligible effect on the contaminated soils stabilized by epoxy resin. In addition, the epoxy resin showed a very good and satisfactory workability for the weakest and the most sensitive soils contaminated with oil derivatives.

꽈리풋고추 하우스 재배지토양의 화학적 특성과 수량반응 (The Chemical Properties of Plastic-house Soil and Yield Responses of Green Pepper)

  • 연작(連作)으로 재배되고 있는 꽈리풋고추 비닐하우스 재배지토양의 화학적 성질을 진단하고 이와 작물생육과의 관계를 밝힐 목적에서 충남 당진군내 36개 농가포장을 조사 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 토양화학성분중 가장 높은 빈도(頻度)를 보인 범위 및 비율은 pH 6.1~6.5(36%), OM 1.6~2.0%(31%), 유효인산 601~800mg/kg(39%), CEC 12.1~14.0 c mol/kg(39%), clay 16.1~18.0% (50%), 전기 전도도 EC 2.0 dS/m 이하가 44%로 많았다. 2. 풋고추 수량은 pH, CEC, 유기물 함량, 점토 함량과는 고도의 정산관(正相關)이 있었고 EC와는 고도의 부(負)의 상관(相關)을 보였다. 3. 전기전도도 EC값은 CEC와 파장 높은 부상관($r=-0.81^{**}$)이 있었고, 점토함량 또는 유기물 함량과도 고도의 부상관이 있었다. 4. 토양화학성분과 EC와의 상관관계에서 EC를 2.0dS/m 이하로 낮추는데에는 점토 18%, 유기물 2.3%이상이 되어야 한다는 것을 나타내었다.

토양상에 의한 Trichloroethyene처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on Control of Trichloroethyene by Soil bed)

  • The purpose of this research is evaluation of adsorption capacity of the cast for TCE comparing with the yellow clay. Furthermore, the experimental data was fitted with the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm and was found to be apllicable to the adsorption isotherm equation. The soil bed reactor used in this study was made of glass(10 cm in diameter, 100 cm in depth). The cast and yellow clay used as adsorbents were screened with 8-20 mesh mecanically. Results from Equilibrium test with adsorbents showed that the equibrium time of the cast and yellow clay was 9min independent of the amount of the adsorbents. The adsorption efficiencys of the cast and yellow clay for TCE was 66.3% and 56.2%, respectively. In the application of Freundlich isotherm, 1/n of the cast and yellow clay were 0.786 and 0.704, respectively. These results showed that the cast was more available than the yellow clay as TCE adsorbent. The best adsorption capacity was showed at 0% moisture content, 70 ppm inlet concentration and 25$^{\circ}$C temperature.

잔적 및 붕적모재 토양의 점토광물 특성구명 (Clay Mineral Composition of the Soils Derived from Residuum and Colluvium)

  • 우리나라 토양의 분류체계를 보완하고 점토광물 조성과 분포를 파악하기 위하여 우리나라 390개 토양통 중 잔적 및 붕적토에서 유래된 26개 토양통을 대상으로 토양 층위별료 시료를 채취하여 집적층을(B층) 토양의 이화학적 특성, 토양 중 점토의 광물조성과 화학성분을 분석하였다. 잔적 및 붕적모재별로는 화강암과 화강편마암, 회장암에서 유래된 토양에서 kaolin과 quartz, 유문암, 3기층, 석영반암, 응회암에서 유래된 토양에서 quartz과 kaolin, 석회암, 혈암, 사암, 역암 등 퇴적암에서 유래된 토양에서 illite와 chlorite가 주요한 점토광물이었다. 토양통별 점토광물조성을 군집분석 (CA, cluster analysis)을 통하여 (1) illite, kaolin, vemiculite를 주광물로 하는 혼합점토광물군 (MIX), (2) kaolin을 주광물로 illite가 많은 kaolin군 (KA), (3) chlorite와 illite가 주광물인 chlorite군 (CH), (4) kaolin과 illite를 주광물로 smectite가 함유된 smectite군 (SM) 등 4개의 점토광물 조성군으로 구분하였다. 우리나라 토양의 대부분은 kaolin을 주광물로 하는 토양과 illite, kaolin, vemiculite가 함유된 토양이었으며, illite와 kaolin을 주광물로 하는 토양에서 CEC가 낮았고 vemiculite와 smectite가 함유된 점토에서 규반비가 높았다.

Release Pattern of Urea from Metal-urea-clay Hybrid with Montmorillonite and Its Impact on Soil Property

  • Urea intercalated into montmorillonite (MT) exhibits remarkably enhanced N use efficiency, maintaining its fast effectiveness. This study dealt with the release property of urea from metal-urea-clay hybrid with MT (MUCH) under continuous-flow conditions and the cumulative impacts of its successive application on physicochemical properties of soils. Releases of urea were completed within 4 hrs under continuous-flow condition regardless of the types and the leaching solutions. However, urea release property was significantly affected by both the form of fertilizer and the presence of electrolytes in solution. The fast release property of urea from MUCH in continuous-flow condition was not significantly affected by soil properties such as soil pH and soil texture. In addition, its successive application did not lead to any noticeable change in soil physicochemical properties, water stable aggregate rate, water holding capacity and cation exchange capacity in both sandy loam and clay loam soils. Therefore, this study strongly supported that urea intercalated into MT could be applied as fast-effective N fertilizer, in particular for additional N supply.

준설 연약 점토의 전단강도 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Strength Characteristics of Dredged Soft Clay)

  • 본 논문에서는 연속재하압밀시험을 적용하여 준설토의 거동을 연구하고 얇은 판을 이용하여 준설토의 강도 시험을 실시하는 새로운 실험 방법을 고안하여 실험을 하였다. 이 경우 준설토의 유동적 특성은 Bingham 모델로 설명할 수 있다. 이러한 방법을 위하여 정적 관입시험과 유동적 관입시험을 실시하였는데 두 방법은 모두 합 리적이고 실용성이 있었다. 특히 실험을 통하여 얻은 결론에 따르면 점토질이 많은 흙이나 실트 질 흙 모두에 대해서 함수비가 액성한계의 두배보다 적어지면 강도가 급격히 증가하는 반면,소 성지수의 경우 소성지수로 정규화한 함수비값이 실트는 10, 점토는 5이하가 되면서 소성지수로 정규화한 함수비값의 강도가 급격히 증가함을 알 수 있었다.

  • The experimental investigations considered in this paper are similar in many respects to those of Lee$^1$, with some key differences. First, there is no layering of the soils in a heterogeneous liner. The only soil investigated is the clay component of the cover liner. This ensures that the clay is exposed to freezing and that frost propagation in the clay can be investigated separate from other processes. Second, a closed system approach to the simulation was adopted. According to Jones$^2$, closed-system freezing occurs when there is no source of water available beyond that originally present in the soil voids. Freezing under such conditions results in very thin or non-existent ice lenses. One of tile objectives of the experiments described in this paper was the moisture migration and the changing of moisture contents of the compacted clay liner in landfill. The closed-system was used to limit tile variables in the experimental simulation to make these calculations more direct, although the final results could be applied to an open system also. As a result, the moisture content decreased about 45%-46% after two freeze/thaw cycles.
