  • This study aims to evaluate and identify the patterns of the technological competitiveness of the Korean industry. Such statistics as R&D expenditure and R&D manpower as input indexes, US patent registrations and export sales as output indexse were used. It was turned out that such industrial types as specialized-suppliers industries, scale-intensive industries and science-intensive industries showed relatively strong technical competitiveness. However, resource-intensive industries and labor-intensive industries which had maintained a competitive advantage in the 1970s and the 1980s appeared to be gradually losing their technological competitiveness. These results are by and large in accordance with the trends of export performance. This study conducted the canonical discriminant analysis in order to test the correctness of the patterns displayed in the technological competitiveness of the Korean industry. The result of the analysis showed that the five patterns of technical strength of the Korean industries are significantly independent each other for four respective variables which are used to distinguish industries. This implies that the ex ante industrial classification into five types was correct in terms of the ex post statistics, and that the patterns of technological competitiveness discovered in this study are also statistically correct.

  • This paper aims to provide a better understanding about how Information and Communication technology (ICT) has diffused. The investigation is conducted with the consideration of ICT evolution in terms of technological change and usage pattern. The definition used is presented as 'the ICT is a process of convergence of technologies between information-processing and information-transforming technologies, mainly due to the advent of microelectronlcs'. After examining technological changes of ICT, the diffusion path of ICT is traced through the usage ratio in total input and/or investment based on Input-Output tables (I-O). It shows that the evolution of ICT from the change of usage pattern is an up-and-down usage pattern rather than a uni-modal usage time path. With this recognition, the diffusion index is prepared. JEL classification : C43, L63, O33.

  • Over the past two decades, smart cities have been attracting attention as a means of solving urban problems and as a model for securing urban sustainability. Many studies have been conducted in various fields such as conceptual definitions, classification, new technologies, case analysis, and civic participation of smart cities. In particular, applicable technologies and their importance have been highlighted so far. However, since a city is a complex and meta-systematic space, it is the overly optimistic prospect that technology, one of the smart city components, will lead to successful smart cities. This study elucidates the impediments to driving smart cities as a case study of South Korea, a leading country in smart technology and digital transformation. We examined three comprehensive national plans for promoting smart cities and conducted focus group interviews with experts in smart cities to analyze the obstacles to carrying smart cities. We classified the thirteen impediments into technological, industrial, governmental, and social factors as a result. Some of them are generic issues in policy establishment and enforcement, while others are specific to smart cities.

  • This study attempts to develop a methodology that analyzes patent applications to identify future skills, in particular in the sector of information security, recently into the spotlight. Matching skill elements from the International Patent Classification (IPC) with skill units from job analysis, the study tries to track trends in the skills needs based on IPC time-pattern. It then verifies the validity of the outlook for future skills needs by addressing the situation through the use of patents. The research assesses the usability of patent information for this type of analysis. While this study is limited to the information security sector by using Korean patent information, it can be expanded in the future to other areas and patents in the United States and Europe.

  • A nation's technology policy is based on the broad principles that govern the allocation of its technological resources. But the cost of inadequate investments in technology development is particularly high in today's global1y-competitive environment where continued technological advancements are critical to sustain. This paper presents a methodology for searching the new and /or advanced technologies to promote Korea's technological and economic competitiveness by industrial technology policy. The conceptual framework of industrial technology development, which is the main focus of this Paper, was designed using both Top-down and Bottom-up approach And the technology classification system was modified reviewing the previous it's system. Supporting the technology input are three key technology elements; proprietary technology, generic technology, infratechnology Competitive survival in any advanced economy will depend upon technology-based strategies that emphasize the integration of these elements of industrial technology.

  • In this study, we propose an expert system aided model necessary for extracting the rules, which can diagnose the success level of new product development project. For this purpose, first, we design a classification model to analyze the characteristics of $\ulcorner$parts development projects$\lrcorner$. Second, in order to select success factors, we explore literatures and interview with project managers working at large sized companies of electronic parts. And we conduct the enquete survey and statistical analysis to extract key success factors. Third, in order to decide the level of project success, we use the concept of 'Recearchitivity' as a framework of judgement criteria. Fourth, in order to extract diagnosis rules, we use expert system development tool.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify the variations of nursing care cost depending on nursing care requirement and calculate nursing care cost per one day and one care requirement point. Methods: Nursing care requirement was measured by classifying 3,855 patients according to KPCS-1(Korean Patient Classification System for nurses-1). Nursing care cost was calculated from personnel expenses and nursing care requirement. Nursing cost factors were identified by multiple regression analysis. Results: Average nursing cost per patient per day was 33,588 won, Average nursing care cost per 1 patient classification score was 3,558 won. The nursing cost per 1 patient classification score was different depending on the types and levels of the hospitals. The 4th patient classification group revealed the highest nursing care cost. Nursing cost factors included the number of beds in the hospitals, seniority, number of nurses and first grade in nurse personnel accreditation ($adj-R^2$ 74.0%. p<.05). Conclusion: Nursing care requirements expressed by patient classification scores don't directly correlate with nursing care cost. Further research is needed to evaluate validity and reliability for refining KPCS-1 and to apply variable criteria to nurse personnel accreditation.

  • Education is one of the pillars of sustainable development. For this reason, the discovery of useful information in its process of adaptation to new challenges is treated with care. This paper aims to present the initiation of a process of exploring the data collected from the results obtained by Romanian students at the BBaccalaureate (the Romanian high school graduation) exam, through data mining methods, in order to try an in-depth analysis to find and remedy some of the causes that lead to unsatisfactory results. Specifically, a set of public data was collected from the website of the Ministry of Education, on which several classification methods were tested in order to find the most efficient modeling algorithm. It is the first time that this type of data is subjected to such interests.
