Transition of Teachers' Perception and Improvement of Students' Perception on Food Additives through a Training Program (식품첨가물 바르게 알기 연수를 통한 교사들의 인식 전환과 학생들의 인식 개선 효과)

  • Based on the previous reports that majority of teachers have negative perceptions on food additives, a teacher training program called 'Let's teach food additives correctly' was developed and applied to improve teachers' unbalanced perception on food additives and let them teach students with sound scientific background. The 15-hours training program consisted of understanding of food safety and food additives, education materials on food additives, development of teaching-learning plan, meeting with professionals from Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), visiting MFDS labs, application to school class, and evaluation. A total of 63 teachers participated in the training through 2 sessions conducted in August 2016. As a result, teachers showed high satisfaction rates (4.2~4.5 in 5.0-Likert scale) and 91.5% answered the training helpful for the school class. Although their initial intention to participate the training was to know the details of negative intake effects of food additives, their such perception was totally changed in addition, they suggested a continuous training for teachers and immediate correction of incorrect information in school textbooks. Also, post-training education for 1,172 students by these teachers appeared to improve the understanding of and the native perceptions on food additives significantly (p < 0.001). Above results showed that the training program could solve the problem of transmitting unbalanced information on food additives to students by training teachers, and such channel could be used to facilitate food-related risk communication.

Character of MongYong in Original ChunHyang Jun Films of Shin Sang-Ok directed in North and South Korea - Political Sociological Aspect of Characterization (신상옥 연출 남북한 『춘향전』 원작 영화 속 몽룡 '들' - 정치사회학적 관점에서 본 '캐릭터성격화')

  • This is an attempt to analyze original films of ChunHyang Jun that Shin Sang-Ok filmed in North and South Korea, focusing on the character of MongYong. These films were made during political transition periods of North and South Korea. Sung ChunHyang was made during the second republic of South Korea, which was established after the collapse of Rhee SyngMan government; and Love, Love, My Love was made in North Korea during the period of power transfer from Kim Il-Sung to Kim Jong-Un. Considering these political changes, the character of MongYong seems to represent the figure of authority North and South Korean society of the time had in mind. First, MongYong in Sung ChunHyang has a strong image of a lover who repays ChunHyang's devotion and sacrifice with romantic affection. As an authoritative figure, he has the aspect of a democratic leader or mediator. On the other hand, MongYong's image in Love, Love, My Love is a heroic authority figure of the revolutionary class. He is a subversive reformer who shows love for the people and treats them favorably, gaining public desire. This research is expected to inspire more studies on the meanings of hit movies based on classic literature under synchronic terms.

A Case Study on Autobiography Writing Program for Older Adults (노인자서전 쓰기 교육 프로그램 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of an autobiography writing program as a method of education for older adults. The authors participated in the processes of all 10 sessions of the autobiography writing program as instructors or program assistants at a senior welfare center in Seoul, 2007. Data used for analysis were learners' narrations in class, written autobiographies by learners, and researchers' memo-notes. We analyzed their narrative flows using Haenninen(2000)'s theory of narrative flow and reconstructed their categories of activities as life histories. 'The innen narration' constructed by learners was a spiritual process in which they have imbued their life and living conditions with meaning. The learners reminisced their lives as 'unreflective narration' in the beginning of education. However, as the class went on, they gradually reminisced them as "reflective narration" and finally developed them as 'meta-reflective narration' through the intentional reflection. Likewise, we could interpret the transition of learners into meta-reflecter as the completion of ego-integration. As a conclusion, we found the effects of the autobiography writing education for older adults in educational, social, and psychological aspects.

Investigation of Scientific Argumentation in the Classes for Elementary Gifted Students (초등 단위 학교 영재 수업에서 나타나는 과학적 논증 과정에 대한 탐색)

  • This study was to analyze the characteristic of scientific argumentation in the classes for the gifted of elementary school. The participants of this study were 5 fifth graders and 9 sixth graders, 14 in total, from the basic unit schools for gifted students of J elementary school in Incheon city. And it constituted small scale groups made up of 2~3 students with similar or identical ability in scientific reasoning. It had set up hypothesis for each group before the experiment, and students had a group discussion as a whole after the experiment. Classes were conducted 4 times, all courses were recorded as a sound/video. The ability in scientific reasoning of the students was inspected, making use of SRT II by means of pre-survey, and their argumentation levels were analyzed, utilizing 'Rubric for scientific argumentation course assessment.' As a result, argumentations did not incurred in every class. Analysis in argumentations of the students resulted in low level argumentation. This means argumentation cannot incur based on that with the limit in understanding the principle of experiments over the threshold of textbook no matter that he is an gifted student or not. The student both in formal operational period and transition period (2B/3A), the ability of scientific thinking in upper level, was improved of his argumentative ability in an overall aspect. However, a student of concrete operational period, the ability of scientific thinking in lower level, had argumentation with still lower level even after the experiment at the moment of discussing with the students on the upper level of scientific thinking ability.

Amorphous Chalcogenide Solids Doped with Rare-Earth Element : Fluorescence Lifetimes and the Glass Structural Changes (희토류 원소 첨가 비정질 찰코지나이드 : 형광 수명과 유리 구조 변화의 관계)

  • Lifetime of excited electronic states inside the 4f configuration of rare-earth elements embedded in chalcogenide glasses is very sensitive to medium-range structural changes of the host glasses. We have measured lifetimes of the 1.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ emission originating from Pr$\^$3+/ : ($^3$F$_3$, $^3$F$_4$)\longrightarrow$^3$H$_4$ transition in amorphous chalcogenide samples consisting of Ge, Sb, and Se elements. The measured lifetimes fumed out to have their maximum at the mean coordination number of -2.67, which arises accordingly from structural changes of the host glasses from 2 dimensional layers to 3 dimensional networks. This new finding supports that the so-called topological structure model together with chemically ordered network model is adequate to explain relationship between the emission properties of rare-earth elements and the medium-range structures of amorphous chalcogenide hosts with a large covalent bond nature. Thus, it is validated to predict site distribution and lifetime of rare-earth elements doped in chalcogenide glasses simply based on their mean coordination number.

Classifying and Identifying the Characteristics of Wetlands in Korea -Cases on the Inland Wetlands- (우리나라 습지 유형별 분류특성에 관한 연구 -내륙 습지를 대상으로-)

  • A wetland is an ecosystem which is the most useful and highly-energetic transition area. This study has been carried out to classify and identify the various types of wetlands in Korea. The main objective of this study are 1) defining and classifying of wetlands, and 2) identifying the wetlands characteristics, and 3) studying cases on the natural wetlands such as Han river, DMZ(Demillitarized Zone), Upo wetland and Yong(Dragon) wetland. The results as follows: 1) Development of the indices for identifying and classifying wetlands in encompassing in such as Ramsar Conference, US NWI(National Wetlands Inventory), Hydrogeomorphic system. 2) Development on the classifying method on the wetlands in the level of supersystem, system, subsystem, class and subclass. The systems include Palustrine and Riverine, and the subsystems are Seasonal, Permanent(Palustrine) and Impersistent, Lower perennial, Impersistent (Riverine). 3) Finally, we find out Young wetland is Palustrine/Permanent/Slope/Persistent, and Upo wetland consists of various types of wetlands, those are, Palustrine/Permanent/Depression/Forest Deciduous, Palustrine/Permanent/Depression/Shrub Deciduous, Palustrine/Permanent/Depression/Persistent, Palustrine /Permanent/Depression/Hydrophytes, and Lacustrine/Permanent/Openwater/Hydrophytes. The taxonomy of this study stems from identifying and classifying wetlands with indices mainly based on hydrologic features and substrates. So, it is needed that consequent studies are to be performed with various viewpoints. And the studying cases were limited because of the restricted entrance into the DMZ, And, we selected only 10 crucial sites in Han river as the subject for wetlands regulation and creation. And, for advanced studies, drawing up inventory and mapping are necessary.

Inconsistent Welfare Attitude and NOOMP (복지태도의 이중성 - '눔프'현상과 집단별 차이 -)

  • This paper is about the NOOMP(Not Out of My Pocket) phenomenon, the inconsistent welfare attitude for an expansion of welfare system and increase of financial resources. By analyzing the scale and influential factors of the NOOMP to the main welfare programs, focusing on the class, gender, and age group, the paper tries to investigate the relationship between the NOOMP and the inherent stratification structure of each programs. This paper uses the Additional Survey of Welfare Attitude in 2013 Korea Welfare Panel Survey. As a result of analysis, low level of NOOMP phenomenon has been observed in welfare programs for whole society members such as health policies, pension, employment policies, compared to those of targeted programs for the poor, aged, or disabled. In addition, high probability of each group of 'low incomer', 'female', and '20s or less'to the NOOMP phenomenon has been appeared, therefore, high relevance of the NOOMP and the stratification structure of welfare programs have been confirmed. These results indicate that the transition to the universal welfare programs and the improvement of welfare programs for more equal structure are needed to reduce the NOOMP phenomenon.

The Appearance of the Ready-to-wear Clothing in the West and Its Utopian Characteristics (서양 기성복의 출현 배경과 그 유토피아적 성격)

  • This paper discusses the social changes in the late 19th century that provided a historical background in the appearance of the ready-to-wear clothing in the West. It examines the social meanings of the appearance of the ready-to-wear clothing at the time and traces the origins of these social characteristics to the book published in the $16^{th}$ century by Thomas More, Utopia. The results of this study can be summarized as the following. First, the appearance and expansion of the ready-to-wear clothing coincided with the social transition from a class-based society to a democratic society in the west in the $19^{th}$ century. Second, uniforms were produced in the $18^{th}$ century Europe in order to distinguish different classes and ethnic groups, with the military uniforms being the most visible example. Frequent military campaigns in Europe resulted in the increasing demand and expansion of military uniforms, which later became the basis of the standardization of the men's clothing with uniforms. Third, the women's ready-to-wear clothing appeared later than their male counterpart and was made possible by the simplification of design, an important characteristic of women's wear in the later period. Fourth, the social characteristics of the ready-to-wear clothing can be traced to a democratic and egalitarian society without personal properties that was depicted in the book of Utopia by Thomas More. Fifth, one of the characteristics of the ready-to-wear clothing can be found in the description of Utopia, in which everyone in Utopia wears a clothing of the same form for life.

Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor Trichostatin A Enhances Antitumor Effects of Docetaxel or Erlotinib in A549 Cell Line

  • Background and Objective: Histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors represent a promising class of potential anticancer agents for treatment of human malignancies. In this study, we investigated the effect of trichostatin A (TSA), one such HDAC inhibitor, in combination with docetaxel (TXT), a cytotoxic chemotherapy agent or erlotinib, a novel molecular target therapy drug, on lung cancer A549 cells. Methods: A549 cells were treated with TXT, erlotinib alone or in combination with TSA, respectively. Cell viability, apoptosis, and cell cycle distribution were evaluated using MTT (3- (4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay, Hochst33258 staining and flow cytometry. Moreover, immunofluorescent staining and Western blot analysis were employed to examine alterations of ${\alpha}$-tubulin, heat shock protein 90 (hsp90), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and caspase-3 in response to the different exogenous stimuli. Results: Compared with single-agent treatment, co-treatment of A549 cells with TSA/TXT or TSA/erlotinib synergistically inhibited cell proliferation, induced apoptosis, and caused cell cycle delay at the $G_2/M$ transition. Treatment with TSA/TXT or TSA/erlotinib led to a significant increase of cleaved caspase-3 expression, also resulting in elevated acetylation of ${\alpha}$-tubulin or hsp90 and decreased expression of EGFR, which was negatively associated with the level of acetylated hsp90. Conclusions: Synergistic anti-tumor effects are observed between TXT or erlotinib and TSA on lung cancer cells. Such combinations may provide a more effective strategy for treating human lung cancer.

Synthesis and Characterization of Electroluminescent Conjugated Polymers Containing Sulfone Group in the Main Chain (주사슬에 설폰기를 함유하는 전기발광 공액 고분자의 합성과 특성분석)

  • As a new class of electroluminescent (EL) polymers, PPV-based polymers containing sulfone group in the main chain were synthesized through Witting polymerization reaction to control n-conjugation length and energy levels for predictable light emission and enhanced device performance. These EL polymers showed good solubility in common organic solvents and high thermal stability with initial decomposition temperature of ca. $400^{circ}$ and glass transition temperature around $200^{circ}C$ Emission colors were tuned from green to deep blue by reducing ${\pi}$-conjugated length between sulfone groups. It was also noted from the cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements and semiempirical calculations that sulfone group with high electron affinity effectively lowered HOMO-LUMO energy levels to enhance EL device performance.
