A study has been made of the rccovery of copper (11) by solvent extraction with Alamine336 (Tri-n-oclylamine) as a extractant from hydrochloric etching solutions. The effect of extractant concentrations, hydrochloric acid, chloride Ion concentrations and phase ratio (organiclaqueaus) on copper extraction were studied. Experimental results showed that the concenl~atiano f extractant and the phase ratio strongly influenced the copper extraction, and the extraction percent of capper Increased at higher hydrochloric acid and chloride ion mncmhation. We proposed that the optimum extrachon stages of copper for continuous extraction process by analysidng thc McCabe-Thielc diagram. Stripping of copper from the loaded organic phases wn be accomplished by pure water (H, O) as a dripping reagent effectively. As the tcmpcrature is increased, thc stripping of copper is enhanced.
Solvent extraction is an important process to recover pure gold and silver from various leaching solutions. The present work reviews the aqueous chemistry and solvent extraction separation of gold (I, III) and silver (I) from several leaching systems such as cyanide, thiocyanate, thiosulfate, thiourea and chloride medium. The extraction and separation behavior of gold (I, III) and silver (I) by various single and mixtures was compared on the basis of extraction reaction and the selectivity from these mediums. The chloride medium is recommended for the separation of gold and silver by solvent extraction in terms of extraction and stripping efficiency.
Corrosion is a natural, inevitable process, and is one of the world's most serious problems. Losses incurred due to corrosion are extremely expensive for society. Several technological strategies have been explored and implemented to address these losses. The use of inhibitors to prevent corrosion is a common and efficient method to reduce corrosion losses. This review covers Al and Al-composite corrosion inhibitors in chloride-containing solutions, because of their popularity in a broad array of industrial applications. A vast number of studies in the literature detail the common tendency of Al and Al-composites with reinforcements to deteriorate. Accordingly, it is worthwhile to employ inhibitors to protect them, as discussed in the present work. The emphasis is on selecting the smartest corrosion inhibitor and evaluating its performance. According to the study, the most commonly used corrosion inhibitors are 1,4-naphthoquinone (NQ), 1,5-naphthalene diol, 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole-5-thiol (ATAT), ammonium tetrathiotungstate, clotrimazole, amoxicillin, antimicrobial and antifungal drugs. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic (PDP), and weight loss were among the most commonly used modern electrochemical technologies to test inhibitors' efficacy under environmental conditions.
The main objective of this study is the assessment of the ability of limestone mortars to resist to different chemical attacks. The ability of polypropylene (PP) fibres waste used as reinforcement of these concrete materials to enhance their durability is also studied. Crushed sand 0/2 mm which is a fine limestone residue obtained by the crushing of natural rocks in aggregates industry is used for the fabrication of the mortar. The fibres used, which are obtained from the waste of domestic plastic sweeps' fabrication, have a length of 20 mm and a diameter ranging between 0.38 and 0.51 mm. Two weight fibres contents are used, 0.5 and 1%. The durability tests carried out in this investigation included the water absorption by capillarity, the mass variation, the flexural and the compressive strengths of the mortar specimens immersed for 366 days in 5% sodium chloride, 5% magnesium sulphate and 5% sulphuric acid solutions. A mineralogical analysis by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and a visual inspection are used for a better examination of the quality of tested mortars and for better interpretation of their behaviour in different solutions. The results indicate that the reinforcement of limestone mortar by PP fibres waste is an excellent solution to improve its chemical resistance and durability. Moreover, the presence of PP fibres waste does not affect significantly the water absorption by capillarity of mortar nether its mass variation, when exposed to chloride and sulphate solutions. While in sulphuric acid, the mass loss is higher with the presence of PP fibres waste, especially after an exposure of 180 days. The results reveal that these fibres have a considerable effect of the flexural and the compressive behaviour of mortar especially in acid solution, where a reduction of strength loss is observed. The mineralogical analysis confirms the good behaviour of mortar immersed in sulphate and chloride solutions; and shows that more gypsum is formed in mortar exposed to acid environment causing its rapid degradation. The visual observation reveals that only samples exposed to acid attack during 366 days have showed a surface damage extending over a depth of approximately 300 ㎛.

Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX) and benzalkonium chloride (BZK) formulations are frequently used as antiseptics in healthcare and consumer products. Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC) contamination of pharmaceutical products could be due to the use of contaminated water in the manufacturing process, over-diluted antiseptic solutions in the product, and the use of outdated products, which in turn reduces the antimicrobial activity of CHX and BZK. To establish a "afe use" period following opening containers of CHX and BZK, we measured the antimicrobial effects of CHX ($2-10{\mu}g/ml$) and BZK ($10-50{\mu}g/ml$) at sublethal concentrations on six strains of Burkholderia cenocepacia using chemical and microbiological assays. CHX (2, 4, and $10{\mu}g/ml$) and BZK (10, 20, and $50{\mu}g/ml$) stored for 42 days at $23^{\circ}C$ showed almost the same concentration and toxicity compared with freshly prepared CHX and BZK on B. cenocepacia strains. When $5{\mu}g/ml$ CHX and $20{\mu}g/ml$ BZK were spiked to six B. cenocepacia strains with different inoculum sizes ($10^0-10^5CFU/ml$), their toxic effects were not changed for 28 days. B. cenocepacia strains in diluted CHX and BZK were detectable at concentrations up to $10^2CFU/ml$ after incubation for 28 days at $23^{\circ}C$. Although abiotic and biotic changes in the toxicity of both antiseptics were not observed, our results indicate that B. cenocepacia strains could remain viable in CHX and BZK for 28 days, which in turn, indicates the importance of control measures to monitor BCC contamination in pharmaceutical products.

The purposes of this study were to measure the solubility of the stannous fluoride experimentally, to find a method for improving the solubility of the stannous fluoride, and to observe the effect of longterm storage on the variation of the concentration of fluoride in the stannous fluoride solutions. By adding such materials as antiseptics, dye, flavor, and tastes to solution, the variation of the fluoride concentration was also observed. Ten groups of 0.4% stannous fluoride solutions to which glycerine, sodium chloride, chlorhexidine, dye, flavor, xylitol, and sorbitol were added were prepared. The measurements were carried out by direct calibration. The obtained results were as follows. 1. Effect of adding glycerine as solvent. : The solubility of stannous fluoride increased in the case of adding glycerine. By increasing the glycerine concentration, the fluoride level in stannous fluoride solution also increased. 2. Effect of adding sodium chloride and chlorhexidine. : Comparing to the case of pure water, low fluoride level was measured in case of adding sodium chloride and high fluoride level was measured in case of adding chlorhexidine. 3. Effect of adding erythrosin as dye and banna essence as flavor. : Adding erythrosin and banna essence didn't affect fluoride level. 4. Effect of adding xylitol and sorbitol. : The effects of xylitol and sorbitol were nearly the same as the effect of adding erythrosin and banna essence.

Electrolytic impregnation of nickel hydroxide into porous sintered nickel plaque from various nickel solutions were carried out at room or high temperatures and current density range of 2.5mA $cm^{-2}$ to 25mA $cm^{-2}$. The morphology of the deposited surface was observed with an electron microscope and the surface products were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction method. Nickel hydroxide was deposited in nickel nitrate electrolyte, while deposits from sulphate or chloride solutions were almost metallic nickel. The loading level of nickel hydroxide from nitrate solutions was 1.6g$cm^{-3}$ void volume and the appearance of the surface was good quality. Discharge capacity of prepared electrodes in nickel nitrate electrolyte was larger than that of the others bath. It was considered that the cell capacity was dependent on the surface roughness of active material.

Gargle solution has typically been used for the prevention of oral infectious disease such as dental caries and periodontitis. However, the use of most gargle solutions is controversial in application for children because some gargle solutions have harmful side effects. Electrolyzed water is generated by passed an electric current and has antimicrobial activity. The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the efficacy of electrolyzed water in various conditions for eliminating cariogenic bacteria. Electrolyzed water was generated by a platinum electrode in the presence of sodium chloride at various concentrations. Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus were cultivated into a brain heart infusion broth. After harvesting planktonic bacteria, the pellets were treated with the electrolyzed water and commercial gargle solutions and plated on a mitis-salivarius agar plate. Also, the anti-biofilm activity of the electrolyzed water and commercial gargle solutions was investigated after biofilm formation of S. mutans and S. sobrinus. The bacteria in the biofilm were plated onto a mitis-salivarius agar plate. The plates were incubated, and the colony forming unit was measured. The electrolyzed water containing sodium chloride showed significant antibacterial activity against S. mutans and S. sobrinus as well as some gargle solutions. Furthermore, the electrolyzed water had more disruptive effect on the biofilm of S. mutans and S. sobrinus and killed more bacteria in the biofilm than commercial gargle solutions. The results demonstrate that electrolyzed water may be a useful gargle solution for prevention of dental caries.
Anion exchange membranes can be used for reverse electrodialysis for electric energy generation, and capacitive deionization for water purification, as well as electrodialysis for desalination. In this study, anion exchange membranes of poly((vinylbenzyl) trimethylammonium chloride-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)/poly(vinyl alcohol) were prepared through the polymerization of (vinylbenzyl)trimethylammonium chloride and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate in aqueous poly(vinyl alcohol) solutions, esterification with glutaric acid, and cross-linking reaction with glutaraldehyde. We investigated electrochemical properties for the anion exchange membranes prepared according to experimental conditions. Ion exchange capacity and electrical resistance for the membranes were changed with a variation in the monomer ratio in polymerization. Water uptake and conductivity for the membranes decreased with an increase in the content of glutaric acid in esterification. The change in the time of crosslinking reaction with the formed film and glutaraldehyde affected electrochemical properties such as water uptake, conductivity, or transport number for the membranes. Chronopotentiometry and limiting current density for the anion exchange membranes prepared were measured.
The stability of three oximes, Hl-6 [(4-carbamoyl-2'[(hydroxyimino)-methyl]- 1,1'-oxydimethylenedi-(pyridinium chloride)], Hl-CN [(4 cyano-2'-[(hydroxyimino)-methyl] -1,1'-oxydimethylene-di-(pyridinium chloride)], and 2-PAM [pralidoxime chloride] in aqueous solutions was evaluated by HPLC assay. The rate of degradation is dependent on the pH as well as the temperature at which the solution is stored. The optimum pH for the stability of these oximes was pH 2 to 3. The degradation rate constant for 2-PAM ($k\;at\;70^{\circ}C$, $2.07{\times}10^{-4}/hr;\;E_a\;value$, 27.2 kcal/mol) was smaller than those for bis-pyridiniumoximes, Hl-6 ($k\;at\;70^{\circ}C$, $3.38{\times}10^{-3}/hr$) and Hl-CN ($k\;at\;70^{\circ}C$, $8.66{\times}10^{-3}/hr;\;Ea\;value$, 20.7 kcal/mol). In mechanistic analyses, it was found that Hl-CN was decomposed through not only the hydrolysis of nitrile group but also the cleavage of methylene ether bridge, in contrast to Hl-6 which was degraded mainly through the cleavage of methylene ether bridge.
