  • The purpose of this study is to examine how much the movement at X-ray examinations like breathing or the positioning affects the image during chest or abdomen X-ray examination so as to create an image containing information as much as possible. The study method adopted is doing the X-ray in each of the states including breathing (inspiration & expiration) and movement in the standing chest PA X-ray and simple abdomen X-ray among the kinds of examination selected the most in hospitals and then evaluating them by applying the standards of image evaluation for each region. According to the study result, about the standing chest PA X-ray, the images taken at inspiration contain more information than those taken at expiration or having subtle movement during the examination. About the simple abdomen X-ray, the images taken at expiration contain more information than those taken at inspiration or movement. The above study results imply that regarding general X-ray examination, information we can find from the images may differ significantly according to the region examined, examination purpose, or movement during the examination like breathing.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest proper additional filtration by comparisons patient dose and image quality among additional filters in digital chest tomosynthesis (DTS). We measured the effective dose, dose area product (DAP) by changing thickness of Cu, Al and Ni filter to compare image quality by CD curve and SNR, CNR. Cu, Al and Ni exposure dose were similar thickness 0.3 mm, 3 mm and 0.3 mm respectively. The exposure dose using filter was decreased average about 33.1% than non filter. The DAP value of 0.3 mm Ni were decreased 72.9% compared to non filter and the lowest dose among 3 filter. The effective dose of 0.3 mm Ni were decreased 48% compared to 0.102 mSv effective dose of non filter. At the result of comparison of image quality through CD curve there were similar aspect graph among Cu, Al and Ni. SNR was decreased average 19.07%, CNR was average decreased 18.17% using 3 filters. In conclusion, Ni filtration was considered to be most suitable when considered comprehensive thickness, character, sort of filter, dose reduction and image quality evaluation in DTS.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate usefulness of Hybrid image and Inverse image about detection of tumor shadow in chest radiography using ROC analysis. Original images of 60 cases are selected from Standards digital image date base issued by the Japanese Society of Radiological Technology. Through computer language of C, Inverse images of 60 cases and Hybrid image of 30 cases are made. The continues reading experiment was conducted. In the case of inverse image were observed by 5 radiographer and 2 radiologist. In the case of In case of Hybrid image were observed by 3 student radiographer and 2 experienced radiographer. ROC curve are constructed using ROCKIT Program made by Metz. In Inverse image, a Az of average ROC curve was increases from 0.742 of original image to 0.775 of inverse image. In normal cases, the effect of the detrimental is same to that of the beneficial, however In abnormal cases, the beneficial effect is greater than detrimental effect. However in Hybrid image, a Az of average ROC curve was decreases from 0.5253 of original image to 0.4868 of Hybrid image. In Normal cases, the effect of the detrimental is greater than that of the Beneficial, however In abnormal cases, the Beneficial effect is greater than detrimental effect. The inverse image can be more positively considered for the detecting of tumor than the hybrid image.

  • Vascular ring, caused by Kommerell's diverticulum and ligamentum arteriosum, in a patient with right aortic arch and mirror image branching is extremely rare. A 10-month-old boy with coughing and stridor was diagnosed as having tracheo-esophageal stenosis, which is caused by a vascular ring with Kommerell's diverticulum, ligamentum arteriosum, right aortic arch, and mirror image branching. Kommerell's diverticulum was successfully resected via a left thoracotomy. The patient has been free from tracheo-esophageal stenosis for a year after the surgery.

  • The patient radiation dose is different depending on selection of Ion chamber when taking Chest PA which using AEC. In this paper, we studied acquiring the best diagnostic images according to selection of Ion chamber on AEC mode as well as minimizing patient radiation dose. Experimental methods were selection of Ion chamber and change of sensitivity under the same conditions as Chest PA projection. At AEC mode, two upper ion chambers sensors and one lower ion chamber sensor were divided into 7 cases according to selection of on/off. after measuring five times respectively, we obtained average value and calculated exposure dose. Image assessment was done with measured Modulation Transfer Function, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio, Root Mean Square, Signal to Noise Ratio, Contrast to Noise Ratio, Mean to Standard deviation Ratio respectively. In exposure assessment results, selection of two upper chambers was the lowest. In resolution assessment results, image of two upper chambers had the second high spatial frequency at sensitivity at 625(High) was 1.343 lp/mm. RMS value of image selecting two upper chambers was low secondly. SNR, CNR, MSR were the high value secondly. As the sensitivity was increased, radiation dose was decreased but better image could be obtained on image quality. In order to obtain the best medical images while minimizing the dose, usage of two upper ion chambers is considered to be clinically useful at sensitivity 625(High).

  • With the increasing resolution of modern CT scanners, analysis of the larger numbers of images acquired in a lung screening exam or diagnostic study is necessary, which also needs high accuracy and reproducibility. Recent developments in the computerized analysis of medical images are expected to aid radiologists and other healthcare professional in various diagnostic tasks of medical image interpretation. This article is to provide a brief overview of some of computer-aided diagnosis schemes in chest CT.

  • Pulmonary nodules in chest X-Ray images were detected using the symmetric property of human lung and its performance was evaluated. Thls algorithm reduced the effect of background components and enhanced the nodule signals relatively. The image was divided and processed separately, the half with matched filter only, and the other half with warping and matched filter. This algorithm increased the entire detection rate by reducing False-Positive error and improving True-Positive detectability. Result shows 10-25 % improvement in detection rate compared with the conventional alsorithm for nodules size of 10mm.

  • In this paper, we propose a classification model based on convolutional neural network(CNN) for predicting 2-year recurrence in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) patients using preoperative chest CT images. Based on the region of interest(ROI) defined as the tumor internal and external area, the input images consist of an intratumoral patch, a peritumoral patch and a peritumoral texture patch focusing on the texture information of the peritumoral patch. Each patch is trained through AlexNet pretrained on ImageNet to explore the usefulness and performance of various patches. Additionally, ensemble learning of network trained with each patch analyzes the performance of different patch combination. Compared with all results, the ensemble model with intratumoral and peritumoral patches achieved the best performance (ACC=98.28%, Sensitivity=100%, NPV=100%).
