선박적재 화학물 Styrene Monomer의 위해성 조사 (Risk Research on Chemical Product Styrene Monomer Shipped in a Vessel)

  • 선박에 적재된 화학물 스타이렌모노머(Styrene Monomer, SM)의 폭발/화재 사고가 울산항에서 발생하여 막대한 손실을 야기하였다. SM은 독성 화학물로서 항해자들이 쉽게 그 위해성을 알 수 없는 문제가 있고, 이러한 SM의 폭발/화재 사고의 원인 규명이 쉽지 않다. 아울러, 최근 들어 SM 이외에 LNG/LPG 등 고위험 화학 화물들의 폭발/화재는 물론 해기사들에게 가해질 수 있는 위해성의 증거가 날로 증가하고 있는 바, 이에 대한 체계적이고 과학적인 연구를 위한 자료의 수집과 분석 및 이를 통한 위해성 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 해기사들에게 SM의 위해성을 교육하기 위한 목적으로 SM의 화학적 반응과 신체 위해성 등을 조사하고, 그에 대한 대응방안을 조사하기 위한 것이다. 장차 해기사로 승선할 학부생의 입장에서 어떠한 위험이 있는지를 인지하는 것은 중요하다. 본 연구는 날로 증가하고 있는 고위험 화학 화물에 대한 경각심 고취와 위해성 이해의 증진에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

  • 2015 국민안전처 통계에 따르면, 화재 피해 중 연소생성물에 의한 피해가 가장 많은 사상자를 내는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 이유로 최근 연소생성물에 관한 연구는 국내외에서 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 국내에서는 연소 생성물이 사람에게 미치는 영향과, 화염의 전파속도에 미치는 영향이라는 관점에서 연구가 진행되고 있고, 해외에서는 연소생성물이 사람에게 미치는 독성 뿐만 아니라 offshore 대피소에 미치는 영향까지 연구되고 있다. 연소생성물은 독성을 가지고 있고, 시야를 가려 탈출을 방해하기 때문에 많은 연구에서 실험과 CFD시뮬레이션을 이용하여 연소 생성물 제거 설비의 최적화에 관한 연구를 진행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 연소를 통한 독성가스 발생 모델과, 그 가스의 제거 시설에 대한 연구 동향을 분석하여, 추후 연소생성물 연구의 기준이 될 것으로 판단된다.

시판 조제 분유의 화학적 품질 평가 (Chemical Quality Evaluation of Commercial Infant Formulas)

  • In this study, three domestic and one foreign formulas for the infants up to 5 month old were examined to detect chemical changes such as pH, reactive sulfhydryl groups(RSH) content, 5-hydroxymethylfurfral(HMF) content, available lysine content, electrophoresis, and surface color caused by heat treatment for long term storage. In the SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, A and B products showed similar pattern, while C product had a clearly distinguishable $\beta$-lacto-globulin band, but in casein, only D product showed a few strong casein band. RSH content, which indicate the extent of whey protein denaturation, ranged from 4.40 to 5.93 mmole/g protein. HMF content. which indicate the extent of Maillard reaction, ranged from 192 to 432 $\mu$mole/100g in formulas. B product showed the highest RSH and HMF content. Available lysine content ranged from 31 to 46 mg/g protein. Among them D product contain the highest available lysine content and others showed no significant difference. In conclusion, the domestic infant formulas showed higher RSH and HMF content than the foreign product and the available lysine content of the domestic products were lower than of the foreign product.

  • This study aims to apply Arduino and 3D printing technology considered as a key subject in the age of 4th industrial revolution which is a step 1 for customizing and applying the process of production by chemical molding companies producing environment-friendly biodegradable packaging materials to the 3D printing teaching in universities. Step 3 is applied to IoT for Arduino application, and 3D printing technology is also used on the basis of teaching creative integrated human resource. Integration of Arduino with 3D printers is based on the assumption that middle- and high-school students can learn it step by step to higher levels and university students majoring or not majoring in computing science can also have computing skills for solving 3D printing-based problems. For IoT application in this study, the 3D printing technology is applied to the external shape of products for producing an Arduino-based lighting fixture. The applied 3D printing technology is further extended to teaching modeling of producing packaging materials by chemical product molding companies in the age of 4th industrial revolution.

Theoretical Study on the Reaction Mechanism of Azacyclopropenylidene with Epoxypropane: An Insertion Process

  • The reaction mechanism between azacyclopropenylidene and epoxypropane has been systematically investigated employing the second-order M${\o}$ller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) method to better understand the reactivity of azacyclopropenylidene with four-membered ring compound epoxypropane. Geometry optimization, vibrational analysis, and energy property for the involved stationary points on the potential energy surface have been calculated. It was found that for the first step of this reaction, azacyclopropenylidene can insert into epoxypropane at its C-O or C-C bond to form spiro intermediate IM. It is easier for the azacyclopropenylidene to insert into the C-O bond than the C-C bond. Through the ring-opened step at the C-C bond of azacyclopropenylidene fragment, IM can transfer to product P1, which is named as pathway (1). On the other hand, through the H-transferred step and subsequent ring-opened step at the C-N bond of azacyclopropenylidene fragment, IM can convert to product P2, which is named as pathway (2). From the thermodynamics viewpoint, the P2 characterized by an allene is the dominating product. From the kinetic viewpoint, the pathway (1) of formation to P1 is primary.

  • 경쟁력을 유지하기 위해 기업은 다양한 신제품들을 동시 다발적으로 개발해야 한다. 이런 제품들은 시장에 출시되기 전에 품질, 안정성, 내구성 등 다양한 시험(test)들을 거쳐야 한다. 여러 시험 수행 일정을 조정함으로 그로 인한 전체 발생 비용을 고려한 신제품의 순현재 가치(NPV, net present value)가 변하게 되며 이를 최대로 하기 위한 시스템적 방법이 필요하다. 이러한 필요성에 따라서 본 연구에서는 현실적 자원 제약이 고려된 상황에서 다제품(multiple products)들의 최적 시험 순서를 결정할 수 있는 모델을 제시하였다. 또한 수학적 예제를 통해서 테스트 수행 시간이 확률적으로 주어진 경우에도 적용할 수 있다는 것을 검증하였다.

A modified simulated annealing search algorithm for scheduling of chemical batch processes with CIS policy

  • As a trend toward multi-product batch processes is increasing in Chemical Process Industry (CPI), multi-product batch scheduling has been actively studied. But the optimal production scheduling problems for multi-product batch processes are known as NP-complete. Recently Ku and Karimi [5] have studied Simulated Annealing(SA) and Jung et al.[6] have developed Modified Simulated Annealing (MSA) method which was composed of two stage search algorithms for scheduling of batch processes with UIS and NIS. Jung et al.[9] also have studied the Common Intermediate Storage(CIS) policy which have accepted as a high efficient intermediate storage policy. It can be also applied to pipeless mobile intermediate storage pacilities. In spite of these above researches, there have been no contribution of scheduling of CIS policy for chemical batch processes. In this paper, we have developed another MSA for scheduling chemical batch processes with searching the suitable control parameters for CIS policy and have tested the this algorithm with randomly generated various scheduling problems. From these tests, MSA is outperformed to general SA for CIS batch process system.

  • Perfluorinated chemicals are highly diverse and widely used. More than 160 substances are pre-registered under REACH and approximately 140 substances are in the existing chemicals list of Korea from this chemical group. Chemical structures of PFCs that are globally prohibited and still in uses are identified with OECD's classification of PFCs with an overall review on their uses in consumer products including textile products. Case examples for current domestic situation on use of PFCs as a major component of water-repelling agents in textile products as well as a brief summary of eight major PFC manufacturers' situation are presented from our survey study along the supply chains and the most recent report of EPA stewardship programme, respectively.

Butein Disrupts Hsp90's Molecular Chaperoning Function and Exhibits Anti-proliferative Effects Against Drug-resistant Cancer Cells

  • Hsp90 shows great promise as a therapeutic target due to its potential to disable multiple signaling pathways simultaneously. In this study, we discovered that a natural product, butein moderately inhibited the growth of drug-resistant cancer cells (A2780cis and H1975), and brought about the degradation of oncogenic Hsp90 client proteins. The study demonstrated that butein would be a therapeutic lead to circumvent drug-resistance in cancer chemotherapy. The structure-based screening, synthesis, and biological evaluation of butein are described herein.
