  • Polyaniline modified graphene oxide (PANI/GO) composites were synthesized by dilute polymerization technique and were characterized by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The characterization results indicated that polyaniline molecules were successfully grafted on GO surfaces. The application of PANI/GO composites to the adsorption of heavy metals from aqueous solutions was investigated under ambient conditions. The maximum adsorption capacities of Co(II), Ni(II), Pb(II) and U(VI) ions on PANI/GO composites calculated from Langmuir models are 22.28, 25.67, 65.40 and 1552.31 mg/g, respectively. The excellent adsorption capacity suggests that PANI/GO composites can be applied as a promising adsorbent in heavy metal pollution cleanup in environmental pollution management.

  • With increasing the needs for micro and precision parts, micro machining technology has been studied to fabricate a small part with high density such as electronics, optics, communications, and medicine industry more than before. But there are many problems to be solved requiring a high-level technology. So this research presents the new method to fabricate a small part through applying chemical mechanical micro machining (C3M) for the Al wafer. Al(thickness I ,u m) was sputtered on the Si substrate. Al is widely used as a lightweight material. However form defect such as burr has a bad effect on products. To improve machinability of ductile material, oxide layer was formed on the surface of AI wafcr before grooving by chemical reaction with HN03(10wt%). And then workpieces were machined to compare conventional micro-machining process with newly suggested method at different machining condition such as load and feed rate. To evaluate whether or not the machinability was improved by the effect of chemical condition, such as the size, the width of grooves 'and burr generation were measured. Finally, it is confirmed that C3M is one of the feasible tools for micro machining with the aid of effect of the chemical reaction.

  • Solar thermochemical syngas and hydrogen production process bv redox system of metal oxide was performed under direct irradiation of the metal oxide on the SiC ceramic foam device using solar simulator. $CeO_2/ZrO_2$ nanotube has been synthesized by anodic oxidation method. Syngas and hydrogen production process is one of the promising chemical pathway for storage and transportation of solar heat by converting solar energy to chemical energy. The produced syngas had the $H_2/CO$ ratio of 2, which was suitable for methanol synthesis or Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process. After ten cycles of redox reaction, $CeO_2$ was analyzed using XRD pattern and SEM image in order to characterize the physical and chemical change of metal oxide at the high temperature.

  • Graphene oxide (GO) has been of particular interest because it provides unique properties due to its high surface area, chemical functionality and ease of mass production. GO is produced by chemical exfoliation of graphite and is decorated with oxygen-containing groups such as phenol hydroxyl, epoxide groups and ionizable carboxylic acid groups. Due to the presence of those functional groups, GO can be utilized as a novel platform for hybrid nanocomposites in chemical synthetic approaches. In this work, GO-$SnO_2$ nanocomposites have been prepared through the spontaneous formation of molecular hybrids. When $SnO_2$ precursor solution and GO suspension were simply mixed, $Sn^{2+}$ was spontaneously formed into $SnO_2$ nanoparticles upon the deoxygenation of GO. Through further chemical reduction by adding hydrazine, reduced GO-$SnO_2$ hybrid was finally created. Our investigation for the electrocapacitive properties of hybrid electrode showed the enhanced performance (389 F/g), compared with rGO-only electrode (241 F/g). Our approach offers a scalable, robust synthetic route to prepare graphene-based nanocomposites for supercapacitor electrode via spontaneous hybridization.

  • Temperature control of an autothermal methanol reforming reactor which uses the copper-zinc oxide catalyst was studied. Temperature at 1cm below the hot-spot point in the reactor was used for the controlled variable, and the air flow rate was used for the manipulated variable. A first order plus time delay model was identified and controller parameters were obtained by applying the IMC-PI tuning rule to the identified model. With this controller, we could control the reforming reactor temperature within ${\pm}5^{\circ}C$ over 100 hours. Change of the hot-spot point due to the catalyst degradation was investigated and it could be used to design an adaptive controller.

  • Background: The chemical characterization of metallic alloys and oxides is conventionally carried out by wet chemical analytical methods and/or instrumental methods. Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is capable of analyzing samples nondestructively. As a part of a chemical quality control exercise, Zircaloys 2 and 4, nimonic alloy, and zirconium oxide samples were analyzed by two INAA methods. The samples of alloys and oxides were also analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and direct current Arc OES methods, respectively, for quality assurance purposes. The samples are important in various fields including nuclear technology. Methods: Samples were neutron irradiated using nuclear reactors, and the radioactive assay was carried out using high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry. Major to trace mass fractions were determined using both relative and internal monostandard (IM) NAA methods as well as OES methods. Results: In the case of alloys, compositional analyses as well as concentrations of some trace elements were determined, whereas in the case of zirconium oxides, six trace elements were determined. For method validation, British Chemical Standard (BCS)-certified reference material 310/1 (a nimonic alloy) was analyzed using both relative INAA and IM-NAA methods. Conclusion: The results showed that IM-NAA and relative INAA methods can be used for nondestructive chemical quality control of alloys and oxide samples.

  • Recently, simulation of Chemical Mechanical Polis hing is becoming more important because Process parameters on the material removal rate are complicated. And pattern-depent effects are a key concern in CMP processes. In this paper, we have been studied the changes of pattern density vs. oxide thickness with Stine's simulation model. We also have estimated the effective density using optimal window size with density mask, and have made a study of the change of oxide thickness as a function of polishing time.

  • Synthesis of nanoparticles using green technology using plants is gaining significant attention as it is an environmentally friendly substitute to conventional physical and chemical methods. The present study was focused on the chemical and green synthesis of Iron Oxide nanoparticles from ferric chloride. The green synthesis was achieved by utilizing the bio components of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles with the size range of 87-400 nm were synthesized by wet chemical reduction technique which are unstable, prone to aggregation while in green synthesis the phytochemicals present in the leaf extract acts as the capping as well as the reducing agent thus the green synthesized iron (III) oxide nanoparticles were naturally stabilized, spherical shaped and are in the size range of 2-80 nm. The results of both the protocols are compared and presented briefly.
