구빈원을 폐하라: 사드와 18세기 말 프랑스의 구빈원에 대한 연구 ("The Burning of Hospitals": Sade's Thoughts on Hospitals from the Ancien Regime to the End of the 18th Century)

  • 사드의 소설 작품에 등장하는 리베르탱들은 빈민을 마주할 때 느끼게 마련인 연민과 동정이 자연스러운 감정이 아니며, 이런 취지로 구체제 프랑스 곳곳에 세워진 구빈원을 즉각 폐지해야 한다고 입을 모은다. 18세기 말 프랑스의 사상가와 행정가들은 구체제 구빈원의 폐해를 다룬 보고서를 출판하면서, 구빈원이 빈민구제의 취지와는 달리 오히려 빈곤을 심화시켰음에 주목한 바 있다. 아울러 프랑스혁명 이후 입법의회는 구빈원 시설과 재산의 국유화를 시도했으며, 극단적으로 구빈원과 자선시설의 완전한 폐지를 주장하기에 이른다는 점을 기억해야 한다. 이런 점에서 본 논문은 사드의 구빈원에 대한 거부가 동시대 사람들이 구체제 구호체계에 제기한 비판과 관련이 있다는 점을 밝히고자 한다. 특히 프랑스혁명기 의회를 장악한 혁명세력은 구빈원을 폐지하거나 축소하는 대신, 소규모 구제원이나 가택 치료의 방안을 내세워 행정을 간소화하고 비용을 줄이는 것이 더욱 효과적이라고 주장했다. 물론 구제원이나 가택 치료의 구체적인 안이 사드의 소설에 직접 등장하는 것은 아니다. 그러나 사드의 주인공들이 사회의 빈곤 문제를 철학, 정치, 경제 등 다양한 입장에서 조망하면서, 새로운 공화국의 이상과 구체적인 사정에 맞는 새로운 구호체제가 필요함을 논리적으로 역설했음을 기억해야 한다. 사드는 혁명의 힘이 약화될 때 구체제의 구빈원 제도가 재건될 것임은 물론, 이미 프랑스혁명이 추방했던 종교와 전제주의 역시 구빈원과 함께 복귀할 수 있음을 경계했다. 그리고 적어도 이점에 대한 사드의 우려가 틀리지 않았던 것이 사실이다.

시각장애 학생의 Web 교육 현황 분석 (Analysis of Education about Web For the Blind Student)

  • Web is becoming a necessary element of information acquisition methods for us who live in an information and knowledge-oriented society, as it is today. It is deriving a revolutionary change on various parts of our society, such as education, culture, etc. Also due to epoch-making development and diversification of web-related technologies and content types, the knowledge, technique and complexity of web users also accompanied it. In this research web-related education of schools for the visually handicapped and current situation of web access of such students are seized, their problems related to web access are analyzed, and efficient alternatives for web implementation to solve those problems were suggested. On the other hand, since this research is a survey targeting information and computer related teachers of 12 schools for the visually handicapped within Korea, it has the restriction that it does not include the analysis of current state of charity facilities which are not regular education institutions. Moreover, the content of the survey is composed by considering totally blind students, thus more detailed survey should also be conducted for weak-sighted students as well.

유소아(幼小兒) 막흉(膜胸) 100례(例) 대(對)한 임상적(臨床的) 고찰(考察) (A Clinical Study of 100 Cases of Empyema thoracis in Infancy and Childhood)

  • The author made clinical study of 100 cases of empyema in infancy and childhood that were treated at the Department of Chest Surgery, Busan University Hospital and Busan Children's Charity Hospital, from Jan 1962 to Nov. 1975. 1. In infancy and childhood, 62 cases out of my 100 cases of empyema were caused by .staphylococci and most of recent reports showed a gradual increase in number of staphylococcal empyema. 2. Most frequent lesion predisposing to empyema in infancy and childhood was pneumonia (72%), being remarkable in staphylococcal empyema (85.5%) to that of others. 3. Antibiotics sensitivity test for staphylococci revealed that the erythromycin was most susceptible (85. 5%). 4. The mortality rate was 6% in over all and the author believes that from the point of view of surgical treatment, failure of early continuous drainage on account of multiple thoracentesis for the early stage of empyema, and also early open thoracotomy procedure such as decortication were all the contributing factors to higher mortality in the empyema of infancy and childhood. 5. It may be concluded that the treatment of choice for empyema in infancy and childhood were early and prolonged continuous drainage of pus by closed thoracotomy with caution and administration of more susceptible antibiotics with nutritional support.

패션기업의 공익 추구 현상 (The Pursuit of Public Benefit in Fashion Enterprises)

  • This research analyzes the recent phenomenon of pursuing public benefit in fashion enterprises according to the increasing importance of corporate social responsibility attitudes towards the global sustainability crisis. The pursuit of public benefit in fashion enterprises has been realized by the activities that contribute to public welfare through one or plural corporations aligned with government, social corporations, and NGOs. The goals of public beneficial activities are to promote public issues and to support the underprivileged and communities both financially and voluntarily. Such activities can be categorized as philanthropy, sponsorship, social marketing, cause-related marketing, and public benefit product development. Especially public beneficial activities in fashion enterprises are featured as the charity donations of apparel products, the collaboration with fashion celebrities and artists in relation with popular culture and art, the limited edition of excellent design with slogans, and the visual campaigns to promote public issues. They deal with human right issues for the underprivileged and disease prevention issues. In addition, specially environmental issue and community trade issues (often raised in the fashion manufacturing and consuming process) are increasing.

Communicating Responsible Luxury Brand: The Role of Luxury-CSR Fit and Dispositional Consensus on Brand Evaluation

  • Purpose - This study attempts to extend the research in responsible luxury by identifying contexts where Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can promote luxury brands' evaluation. It contributes to the literature on consumer responses to CSR, and to responsible luxury in particular and demonstrates how dispositional consensus and luxury-CSR information of luxury brands affects consumers' evaluation of brand. Research design, data, and methodology - An experiment was conducted to test the relationship between brand evaluation and responsible luxury brands' CSR information using collected data through a survey in a large university of South Korea. Study conditions were manipulated with various product types to analyze the relationship in different product domains. Results - When consensus regarding sincere and altruistic motive of companies for CSR activity is high, the perceived fit between luxury brand and the type of CSR has no effect on brand evaluation. But, in case of lower consensus regarding the benevolent company motives, higher fit enhances evaluation than lower fit. Conclusions - In using consensus as a guiding factor to choose the type of charity with favorably view, the level of irrespective fit can help luxury firms to enjoy the benefits of better image. In case of low consensus donating to charities that are closely related to the brands' product or area of business seems to be fruitful.

Religion as an Alleviating Factor in Iranian Cancer Patients: a Qualitative Study

  • After diagnosis of cancer, many patients show more inclination towards religion and religious activities. This qualitative study using semi-structured interviews explored the perspectives and experiences of 17 Iranian cancer patients and their families regarding the role of religion in their adaptation to cancer in one of the hospitals in Tehran and a charity institute. The content analysis identified two themes: "religious beliefs" (illness as God's will, being cured by God's will, belief in God's supportiveness, having faith in God as a relieving factor, and hope in divine healing) and "relationship with God during the illness." In general, relationship with God and religious beliefs had a positive effect on the patients adapting to their condition, without negative consequences such as stopping their treatment process and just waiting to be cured by God. Thus a strengthening of such beliefs, as a coping factor, could be recommended through religious counseling.

The Role of Empathy in Crowdfunding Channel Platform

  • Purpose: Crowdfunding can be a complementary channel in which start-ups or small companies can obtain financial help and take advantage of exploiting the online potential. To activate crowdfunding, it is necessary to consider a consumer's empathic responses. This article examines the role of empathy in the crowdfunding channel platform. We adopted the identification-commitment model to prove the role of empathy. Research design, data, and methodology: Participants were asked to read the charitable crowdfunding campaign. More than 300 young adults completed an online questionnaire and we analyzed it with structural equation modeling (SEM). To find out the role of empathy, we postulate several models which use empathy variable for different purposes. Results: We conclude that empathy has the role of moderator in the identification-commitment model. This means the high empathic response helped the relationship between identification and commitment. However, low empathic response can negatively influence the process of identification to commitment. Conclusions: This study found that virtual empathy is positively related to crowdfunding participation if we can elevate empathy in the crowdfunding channel platform. The findings also show that we need to consider empathic response when we want to raise funds for specific projects such as protecting the natural environment.

한국가사의 상징성에 대한연구 -가사에 나타난 문양을 중심으로- (A Study on the Symbolical Significance in Korean Kasa - Focusing on the embroideries -)

  • Buddhism as one of alien thoughts has been developed conflicting and fusing with Korean Cultural bases. From these fusion process Korean Kasa (i.e, sacerdotal robe for Buddhist monk) also came into possession of different features from original Kasa which Buddhist Command- ment regulates or Kasa of South Asia which is the birthplace of Buddhism. 1. Original kasa was Pamsukula (i.e., a shabby, abandoned, muddy cloth), which did not permit special ornament or luxurious materal. However, we can find splendid colors, letters and embroideries in Korean Kasa. 2. These phenomenon originated from Three Treasures Faith, that is to say, the faith for three treasures, such as Buddha, Buddhist Commandment and Buddhist monk, which was formed by the fusion of Buddhism and conventional Shamanism. 3. Such letters as 천(Heaven), 왕(God). 영(om) stand for what shaped Guardian Deities protecting buddhist Sanctum. 4. The rmbroideries of three-legged bird, such as rabbit and toad, which symbolyze 일(sun) and 월(moon) stand for what shaped conventional divinities. 5. After Kasa possessing originally practical significance, such as Kasa Charity, was penetrated into Korea, it became the object of faith, possessing symbolical significance in addition.

도덕적 정체성이 업사이클 패션제품 태도와 구매의도에 미치는 영향 - 구매경험자와 비경험자의 비교 - (Effect of moral identity on attitude toward and purchase intention of upcycled fashion products - Comparison of purchasers and non-purchasers -)

  • This study explores the effect of moral identity on attitude toward and purchase intention of upcycled fashion products by comparing purchasers and non-purchasers. Data from 127 purchasers and 307 non-purchasers collected through a survey was analyzed using descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, model invariance check, and multiple-group comparison tests using Amos 23.0. Results indicate consumers with purchase experiences of upcycled fashion products showed a higher level of moral identity (internalization and symbolization), positive attitude toward upcycled fashion products, and purchase intention than did consumers with no purchase experience. In model tests, internalization affected attitude toward purchasing upcycled fashion products, whereas symbolization affected purchase intention, regardless of purchase experience. The effect of symbolization on purchase intention was consistent with prior studies focusing on charity behaviors that are highly visible to others. These findings demonstrate that fashion products are visible and symbolic, so it should be carefully considered in ethical consumption studies. From these results, researchers may obtain insights on the process of how consumers apply moral identity to their purchase intention regarding upcycled fashion products. Likewise, marketers may enhance satisfaction of consumers with a high level of symbolization by putting special tags and logos that clearly highlight the products' upcycled nature.

영화에서 나타난 동.서양 의복색의 상징성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Symbolism of the Eastern-Western Costumes' Color in Films)

  • This study is to research the symbolism of the Eastern and Western costumes' color in films. Therefore, I chose movies about colors, which are 'Trzy Kolory', a Western movie directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski and 'Hero', an Eastern movie directed by Zhang Yimou. The purpose of this study is to figure out the symbolism of the common colors shown in both movie which are red, blue and white. Also, by comparing the eastern and western color symbols I studied the ambivalence of colors. Therefore, the comparison of the eastern and western color symbolisms are as the followings. The color red symbols charity in the movie and jealous, hatless, lies, expansion, self esteem, resist, struggle and sadness in the movie . The color blue symbols freedom, lost, gloomy and sadness in the movie and sacrifice and sadness in the movie . The color white symbols equality and emptiness in the movie and true love, sadness and sacrificed love in the movie . Consequently, it appears that the colors symbolize differently in the East and the West. Three series of which is the West movie has more positive meanings than the Eastern movie. Therefore, the meanings of symbols of the costumes' color are different in the East and West as they have different cultures, and also they could be expressed differently by the directors intention.
