Nimopidine, one of dihydropyridine derivatives, has been widely used to pharmacologically identify L-type Ca currents. In this study, it was tested if nimodipine is a selective blocker for L-type Ca currents in sensory neurons and heterologous system. In mouse dorsal root ganglion neurons (DRG), low concentrations of nimodipine $(<10\;{\mu}M),$ mainly targeting L-type Ca currents, blocked high-voltage-activated calcium channel currents by ${\sim}38%.$ Interestingly, high concentrations of nimodipine $(>10\;{\mu}M)$ further reduced the 'residual' currents in DRG neurons from ${\alpha}_{1E}$ knock-out mice, after blocking L-, N- and P/Q-type Ca currents with $10\;{\mu}M$ nimodipine, $1\;{\mu}M\;{\omega}-conotoxin$ GVIA and 200 nM ${\omega-agatoxin$ IVA, indicating inhibitory effects of nimodipine on R-type Ca currents. Nimodipine $(>10\;{\mu}M)$ also produced the inhibition of both low-voltage-activated calcium channel currents in DRG neurons and ${\alpha}_{1B}\;and\;{\alpha}_{1E}$ subunit based Ca channel currents in heterologous system. These results suggest that higher nimodipine $(>10\;{\mu}M)$ is not necessarily selective for L-type Ca currents. While care should be taken in using nimodipine for pharmacologically defining L-type Ca currents from native macroscopic Ca currents, nimodipine $(>10\;{\mu}M)$ could be a useful pharmacological tool for characterizing R-type Ca currents when combined with toxins blocking other types of Ca channels.

Test results including the variation of propellant-inlet pressure, pulsed thrust, and environment vacuum with the accompanying thermal responses are presented for the pulse-mode operation of a set of monopropellant hydrazine thrusters producing $0.95lb_f$ of nominal steady-state thrust at an inlet pressure of 350 psia. The test data are reduced into the impulse bit, specific impulse, and force centroid that are the factors typically characterizing pulse-mode performance of small rocket engines. With a scrutiny to the performance parameters, their comparison to the reference criteria of 1 lbf standard monopropellant rocket engine are successfully made.

This Paper suggests a new feature for shot detection, using the proposed robust feature from the DC image constructed by DCT DC coefficients in the MPEG video stream, and proposes the characterizing value that reflects the characteristic of kind of video (movie, drama, news, music video etc.). The key frames are pulled out from many frames by using the local minima and maxima of differential of the value. After original frame(not do image) are reconstructed for key frame, indexing process is performed through computing parameters. Key frames that are similar to user's query image are retrieved through computing parameters. It is proved that the proposed methods are better than conventional method from experiments. The retrieval accuracy rate is so high in experiments.

Selecting locally optimum thresholds, based on optimizing a criterion composed of the area variation rate and the compactness of the segmented shape, is presented. The method is shown to have the shape-resolving property in the subtraction image, so that overlapped objects may be resolved into bright and dark evidences characterizing each object. As an application a vehicle detection algorithm robust to the operating conditions could be realized by applying simple merging rules to the geometrically correlated bright and dark evidences obtained by this local thresholding.

In this paper, we propose a regular-texture image retrieval approach relating In curvature. Maximum curvature and minimum curvature are computed from the query and each regular-texture image in the database. Seven features are computed from curvature characterizing statistical properties of the corresponding image. Each regular-texture image in the database is then represented as the seven CM (curvature measurement)-features. Query comparison and matching can be done using the corresponding CM-features. Experimental results on Brodatz texture show that the proposed approach is effective.

This study identifies elements involved in designing rehearsals for improving preservice teachers' capacity to teach mathematics. Observation of a secondary mathematics methods course and regular interviews with the teacher educator following each class were used in this research. After characterizing what is considered and enacted in rehearsals as a way to help preservice teachers practice the work of teaching mathematics, I illustrate them with examples from the observations and interviews. I then discuss the challenge of dual contexts-the teacher education classroom and the secondary mathematics classroom-and dual perspectives-the mathematical and pedagogical-in designing and enacting rehearsals. I conclude with implications for mathematics teacher education.

Generally, most of researches that need a variable-clustering process use an exploratory factor analysis technique or a divisive hierarchical variable-clustering method based on a correlation matrix. And some researchers apply a object-clustering method to a distance matrix transformed from a correlation matrix, though this approach is known to be improper. On this paper an agglomerative hierarchical variable-clustering method based on a correlation matrix itself is suggested. It is derived from a geometric concept by using variate-spaces and a characterizing variate.

Volatile components of Korean horseradish roots harvested at different dates were prepared by steam distillation. Samples were examined by gas chromatography (GC) and combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The major pungent constituent, allyl isothiocyanate was confirmed add tended to increase with delayed harvest time. Pungent principles also included allyl thiocyanate, 2-phenethyl, 2-butyl, 4- pentenyl, benzyl and 3-methylthiopropyl isothiocyanates. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy study showed that allyl isothiocyanate - thiocyanate interconversion did not occur under the condition of this study.
