We treat the problem of channel estimation and interference cancellation in multiuser ultra-wide-band (UWB) communication systems over multipath fading channels. The UWB system under consideration employs a random time-hopping impulse radio format. We develop a channel estimation method based on linear weighted algorithm. An iterative channel estimation and interference cancellation scheme is proposed to successively improve the receiver performance. We also consider systems employing multiple transmit and/or receive antennas. For systems with multiple receive antennas, we develop a diversity receiver for the wellseparated antennas. For systems with multiple transmit antennas, we propose to make use of Alamouti’s space-time transmission scheme, and develop the corresponding channel estimation and interference cancellation receiver techniques. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of various UWB receiver techniques developed in this paper.

In this paper, we propose the iterative receiver for LDPC-coded OFDMA systems in uplink environments. Applying the Wiener filtering to pilot symbols, an initial channel estimation can be performed effectively. To reduce the complexity of the Wiener filtering, we approximate Wiener filtering coefficients to pre-determined coefficients according to estimated correlation of channel. After an LDPC decoding process, soft symbol derived by extrinsic information of decoder outputs is used to estimate channel. we also derive the error variance of channel estimation and maximum ratio combined results. Using combined results, the channel correlation is re-estimated. Then the proper Wiener filtering coefficients are chosen according to the re-estimated result of the channel correction. Using a computer simulation, we show that the proposed receiver structure has the better performance than the receiver using only pilot symbols.
In Digital On-Channel Repeaters (DOCR) of Terrestrial-DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), there exist feedback signals generated from transmit antenna and re-entering at receive antenna. Therefore DOCR becomes unstable unless the feedback signal is properly eliminated. Previous research proposed a feedback canceller to estimate the feedback channel to deal with this problem. However formerly used estimation algorithms show unsatisfied performance in terms of convergence rate and quality although their implementations are simple. This paper applies PNLMS (Proportionate Normalized Least Mean Squares) adaptive algorithm to feedback channel estimation and evaluates the performances which solve the problem of feedback signal effectively.

In this paper, performance of autoencoder based OFDM communication systems is compared with IEEE 802.11a Wireless Lan System (Wi-Fi). The proposed autoencoder based OFDM system is composed of the following steps. First, one sub-carrier's transmitter - channel - receiver system is created by autoencoder. Then learning process of the one sub-carrier autoencoder generates constellation map. Secondly, using the plural sub-carrier autoencoder systems, parallel bundle is configured with inserting IFFT and FFT before and after the channel to configure OFDM system. Finally, the receiver part of the OFDM communication system was updated by re-learning process for adapting channel condition such as multipath channel. For performance comparison, IEEE802.11a and the proposed autoencoder based OFDM system are compared. For channel estimation, Wi-Fi uses initial long preamble to measure channel condition. but Autoencoder needs re-learning process to create an equalizer which compensate a distortion caused by the transmission channel. Therefore, this autoencoder based system has basic advantage to the Wi-Fi system. For the comparison of the system, additive random noise and 2-wave and 4-wave multipaths are assumed in the transmission path with no inter-symbol interference. A simulation was performed to compare the conventional type and the autoencoder. As a result of the simulation, the autoencoder properly generated automatic constellations with QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM. In the previous simulation, the received data was relearned, thus the performance was poor, but the performance improved by making the initial value of reception a random number. A function equivalent to an equalizer for multipath channels has been realized in OFDM systems. As a future task, there is not include error correction at this time, we plan to make further improvements by incorporating error correction in the future.

This paper considers a linear precoding scheme that achieves near optimal sum rate. While the minimum mean square error (MMSE) precoding provides the better MSE performance at all signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than the zero forcing (ZF) precoding, its sum rate shows superior performance to ZF precoding at low SNR but inferior performance to ZF precoding at high SNR, From this observation, we first propose a near optimal linear precoding scheme in terms of sum rate. The resulting precoding scheme regularizes ZF precoding to maximize the sum rate, resulting in better sum rate performance than both ZF precoding and MMSE precoding at all SNR ranges. To find regularization parameters, we propose a simple algorithm such that locally maximal sum rate is achieved. As a low complexity alternative, we also propose a simple power re-allocation scheme in the conventional regularized channel inversion scheme. Finally, the proposed scheme is tested under the presence of channel estimation error. By simulation, we show that the proposed scheme can maintain the performance gain in the presence of channel estimation error and is robust to the channel estimation error.

Conventional on-channel-repeaters (OCRs) have a crucial problem that the power of a re-transmitted signal is highly limited by a feedback signal due to antenna coupling. The power limitation problem in OCRs has been solved by incorporating a demodulation-type feedback canceller which eliminates unwanted feedback signals by estimating a feedback channel. In applying the demodulation-type feedback canceller to T-DMB repeaters, there is a troublesome problem of unfrequent known pilot symbols, resulting in poor convergence performance of channel estimation. To solve this problem and enhance the accuracy of estimation, we propose a partitioning method of the Phase Reference Symbol (PRS) transformed in time domain. Since filter coefficients are updated every one partitioned subgroup, the number of updates is increased by the number of partitioned subgroups and thus the convergence speed is enhanced. The improved performance of feedback-channel estimation is directly connected with the feedback-cancellation performance. Simulation result shows that the feedback canceller incorporating the proposed partitioning method has a good performance in terms of residual feedback power.

The virtual mass of net is an important parameter in the analysis and control of net movement in the water. This experiment was performed with the purpose of getting a relation on the quantity of netting and virtual mass of trawl nets using the circulating water channel that can control flow speed. Twelve types of conical nets were examined. Resistance of the conical net at the steady and acceleration state was recorded as text on the personal computer through the tension meter and current meter. The results were obtained as follows ;1. Resistance(R) of the conical net is proportional to the degree of attack angle in the sam e amount of twine material.2. Coefficient of the resistance(Cd)could be defined by the following regression model as a function of Reynolds Number(Re). Cd=0.039Re-0.14743. Resistance(R) is proportional to TSA(Twine surface area) and defined as follows; R=21.398TSA-0.12194. Coefficient of virtual mass(CM) could be calculated by the following first order regression model. CM=37.557U-8.96845. Virtual mass is directly proportional to Volume of net(V) or d/l.

In this paper, we propose an improved TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) localization scheme using PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) in UWB (Ultra Wide Band) systems. The proposed scheme is composed of two steps: re-estimation of TDoA parameters and re-localization of a tag position. In both steps, the PSO algorithm is employed to improve the performance. In the first step, the proposed scheme re-estimates the TDoA parameters obtained by traditional TDoA localization to reduce the TDoA estimation error. In the second step, the proposed scheme with the TDoA parameters estimated in the first step, re-localizes the tag to minimize the location error. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a more superior location performance to the traditional TDoA localization in both LoS (Line-of-Sight) and NLoS (Non-Line-of-Sight) channel environments.

A volume density of roughness correction blocks in a channel is defined and the corresponding roughness coefficient(n) is estimated by analyzing the diverse hydraulic characteristics of VR, the product of the average velocity and the hydraulic radius, block Reynolds number ($Re^*$), drag coefficient ($\acute{C}_D$), and the roughness coefficient ($n_b$) of bottom shear. The increase of VR and block Reynolds number causes the exponential decrease of roughness coefficient converged to a constant value as expected. The drag coefficient also exponentially decreases as block Reynolds number increases as well. The drag force is governed by the block shape defined by volume density in high block Reynolds number of turbulent flow region. For more accurate estimation of roughness coefficient the use of the correlation equation of it is required by block Reynolds number and volume density. The regression equations for n-VR, $\acute{C}_D-Re^*$, and $n_b-\acute{C}_D$ are presented. The regression equations of roughness coefficient are also presented by block Reynolds number and volume density. The developed equation of roughness coefficient by block Reynolds number and volume density has practical use by confirming the coincidence between the experimental results and the results of HEC-RAS using the developed equation.
The optimal joint maximum-likelihood sequence estima-for using an array of antennas is derived for synchronous direct sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system. Each user employs a rate 1/n convolutional code for channel coding for the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. The array re-ceiver structure is composed of beamformers in the users' direc-tions followed by a bank of matched filters. The decoder is imple-mented using a Viterbi algorithm whose states depend on the num-ber of users and the constraint length of the convolutional code. The asymptotic array multiuser coding gain(AAMCG)is defined to encompass the asymptotic multiuser coding gain and the spatial information on users' locations in the system. We derive the upper and lower bounds of the AAMCG. As an example, the upper and lower bounds of AAMCG are obtained for the two user case where each user employes the maximum free distance convolutional code with rate 1/2. The enar-far resistance property is also investigated considering the number of antenna elements and user separations in the space.
