  • Flume experiments are conducted to describe the channel morphology at a tributary junction and to examine the influence of channel arrangements and hydrologic conditions on the channel morphology. When flow momenta of two tributaries are equal, a receiving stream tends to align with an axis bisecting junction angle. It causes lateral migration of a receiving stream according to an initial channel arrangement. As a result, the post-fonfluent channel morphology varies with plan geometry of a confluence such as symmetry, transition and asymmetry. Bed scour is the most notable morphology within a junction site. Its shape is characterized by steep walls which are primarily influenced by junction angle. Key control of scour dimension is also junction angle. Although the principle of accordant junction has been undoubtedly accepted, discordance is commonly developed at model and natural stream confluences. Unit discharge ratio of confluent streams is the most crucial factor because both discharge and sediment concentration ratios have an effect on discordance at a junction.

  • Reported herein is the film morphology control of inkjet-printed 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) organic thin-film transistors for the improvement of their performance and of the device-to-device uniformity. The morphology of the inkjetted TIPS-pentacene films was significantly influenced by the bank geometry such as the bank shapes and confinement area for the channel region. A specific confinement size led to the formation of uniform TIPS-pentacene channel layers and better electrical properties, which suggests that the ink volume and the solid concentration of the organic-semiconductor solutions should be considered in designing the bank geometry.

  • The use of high frequency band, broad band and MIMO antenna is expected in the next generation mobile communication system. By the rapid increase of demand for wireless communications and the explosive increase of the mobile communication services, researches for optimization of next-generation mobile communication system are required. In the existing MIMO channel models, propagation-environments are commonly classified into urban, suburban, rural area, etc. However such approaches can have drawbacks in that many different morphologies may exist even in the urban area, for example. In this paper, we introduced path morphology concept, and proposed the method of morphology classification considering the building height, density, etc. Delay spread(DS), angular spread(AS) of AoD and AoA analyzed for each environment using the ray tracing technique. Based on the analysis, a MIMO channel model appropriate in domestic environment was suggested.

  • There are two methods in 3-D sound reproduction: a surround system, like 3.1 channel method and a binaural system using 2-channel method. The binaural system utilizes the sound localization principle of a human using two ears. Generally, a crosstalk between each channel of 2-channel loudspeaker system should be canceled to produce a natural 3-D sound. To solve this problem, it is necessary to trace a head movement. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to correctly trace the head movement of a listener. The Proposed algorithm is based on the detection of face and eye. The face detection uses the intensity of an image and the position of eyes is detected by a mathematical morphology. When the head of the listener moves, length of borderline between face area and eyes may change. We use this information to the tracking of head movement. A computer simulation results show That head movement is effectively estimated within +10 margin of error using the proposed algorithm.

  • PMMA light guiding plate with nano-sized pattern was fabricated using anodized aluminum oxide membrane as a template for nano imprint lithography. Nano-sized pore arrays were prepared by the self-organization processes of the anodic oxidation using the aluminum plate with 99.999% purity. Since the aluminum plate has a rough surface, the aluminum plate with thickness of 1mm was anodized after the pre-treatments of chemical polishing, and electrochemical polishing. The surface morphology of the alumina obtained by the first anodization process was controlled by the concentration of electrochemical solution during the first anodization. The surface morphology of the alumina was also changed according to temperature of the solution during chemical polishing performed after first anodization. The pore widening process was employed for obtaining the one-channel with flat surface and height of the channel because the pores of the alumina membrane prepared by the fixed voltage method shows the structure of two-channel with rough surface. It is shown from SPM results that the nano-sized pattern on PMMA light guiding plate fabricated by nano imprint lithography method was well transferred from that of anodized aluminum oxide template.

  • The rheological behaviors and morphologies of polylactide (PLA) and chemically modified plasticized starch (CMPS) blends were investigated. For this study, oscillatory shear flow measurements of the PLA, CMPS and their blends were performed. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) study was also conducted on the extracted extrudates of the blends. The morphology of the blend changed in relation to the composition: sphere-shaped CMPS disperse/continuous PLA, rod-like deformed CMPS phase/continuous PLA, a co-continuous structure with bridged CMPS long rods and PLA dispersed/continuous CMPS. The composition of the phase inversion could be estimated and closely coincided from the observed morphology experimental results. The rheological behavior of the blends, from oscillatory measurements, was found to vary in relation to the composition, and reflected the morphologies of the blends. PLA showed Newtonian flow behavior, while CMPS showed strong shear thinning behavior. The relationships between the morphology and rheological properties were observed in detail.

  • The flow in meandering channel has a great influence on curved bank revetment in river morphology. It is difficult to state generalized cirteria for channel improvement applicable to any paricular river. But it is very important to provide some principles and guidelines for design engineers. The objective of this experimental study in fixed bed model is to povide effective data that find out maximum velocity size by the mean velocity and the radius of curvature in curved channel, for the purpose of improving small stream without hydraulic modeling test each time.

  • There have been many studies aiming to reveal the origins of the star-gas misalignment found in galaxies, but there still is a lack of understanding of the contribution from each formation channel candidate. We explore the properties, origins, and lifetimes of the star-gas misalignment using Horizon-AGN, a large-volume cosmological simulation. First, the misalignment fraction shows a strong anti-correlation with the kinematic morphology (V/sigma) and the cold gas fraction of the galaxy. This result is consistent with the result of integral field spectroscopy observations. Second, we have identified four main formation channels of misalignment and quantified their level of contribution: mergers (35%), interaction with nearby galaxies (23%), interaction with dense environments or their central galaxies (21%), and secular evolution including smooth accretion from neighboring filaments (21%). Third, the decay timescale of the misalignment is strongly linked with the kinematic morphology of the galaxy: early-type galaxies (2.28 Gyr) tend to have a longer misalignment lifetime than LTGs (0.49 Gyr). We also found that the morphology and cold gas fraction are both and independently anti-correlated with the misalignment lifetime.

  • River channel dredging and riparian development have been influenced morphology and quantity of natural river habitat. We compared distribution of riverside land and alluvial island in the Nakdong River with field survey and remote sensing analysis after the 4 Large River Project in South Korea. We digitized geomorphological elements, includes main channel, riverside land, and alluvial island by using georeferenced aerial photos taken in pre-dredging (2008) and post-dredging (2012) periods. Field survey was followed in 2012 for a ground truth of digitized boundaries and identification of newly constructed wetland types such as pond, channel, branch, and riverine type. We found that during the dredging period, riverside land and alluvial island were lost by 20.2% and 72.7%, respectively. Modification rate of riverside land was higher in the section of river kilometer 50~90, 140~180, and 210~270. Alluvial island had higher change rate in the section of river kilometer 50~70, 190~210, and 270~310. Average change rate for the riverside land and alluvial island was $-1.02{\pm}0.14km^2{\cdot}10km^{-1}$ and $-0.05{\pm}0.05km^2{\cdot}10km^{-1}$, respectively. Channel shaped wetlands (72.5%) constituted large portion of newly constructed wetlands.

  • Of all components of MCFC(molten carbonate fuel cell), corrosion of separator is one of the most decisive factor for commercializing of MCFC. In order to provide better understanding of corrosion behavior and morphology for gas channel of separator plate, post-analysis after cell operation for 1200 hours at $650^{\circ}C$ was performed by optical microscope, SEM and EPMA. Intergranular corrosion was observed on gas channel of separator plate. Corrosion product layer was identified as Fe-oxide, Cr-oxide and Ni-oxide by EPMA, and oxide thickness was measured with a $60{\mu}m-150{\mu}m$. Also, gas channel of separator was damaged by severe intergrannular attack with post analysis in consistent with immersion test. Moreover, pitting on the channel plate was observed with a depth of $18{\sim}24{\mu}m$. The results of immersion method are well agreement with post analysis measurements.
