Our present ability to work with video has not been confined to wired communication environment. This paper describes the new technological trend of wireless video communication. In wireless video communication, unlike wired network, several techniques are needed. At first, error robust video coding is essential. Due to characteristics of wireless channel, the system is exposed to more error prone environment. In addition, encoded video bit streams are vulnerable to the error because of the entropy coding. Recently many frameworks are developed to cope with this problem. We just explore the numerous robust video coding approaches with the viewing of error control. And more we discuss other on going research topics in this wireless video communication fields like low-power assumption design, trans-codec technique, and rate control schemes in brief.

This paper investigates a distinct set of complex unitary matrices for QPSK differential space time coding. After properly selecting the initial transmission matrix and unitary matrices we find that the different combinations of them could lead different BER performance over slow/fast Rayleigh fading channels and antennas correlated channels. The numerical results show that the proper selection of the initial transmission matrix and the set of unitary matrices can efficiently improve the bit error rate performance, especially for the antennas correlated fading channel. The computer simulations are evaluated over slow and fast Rayleigh fading channels.
MPEG4 High Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding (HE-AAC) and MPEG Surround are one of the most efficient combinations for low bit rate multi-channel audio coding. Based on the fact that these two codecs have identical quadrature mirror filter (QMF) analysis and synthesis structures, we propose a dual-domain connection scheme for the codecs. Specifically two time-domain connection methods are analyzed and compared to the QMF subband-domain connection method. Experimental results show that both the time-domain connection methods cause no subjective sound quality degradation compared to the QMF subband-domain connection method, which verifies that one can select either of them depending on application scenarios.

In the circumstances we want to deal with, a transmission channel is limited and a global motion can happen by camera movement, and also there exists a region-of-interest(ROI) which is more important than background. So very low bit rate coding algorithm is required and processing of global motion must be considered. Also ROI must be reconstructed with required quality after decoding because of its importance. But the existing methods such as H.261, H.263 can not reconstruct ROIs with high quality because they do not consider the fact that ROIs are more important than background. So a new coding scheme is proposed that describes a method for encoding image sequences distinguishing bits between ROI and background. Experimental results show that the suggested algorithm performs well especially in the circumstances where background changes and the area of ROI is small enough compared with that of background.
Variable wireless channel is a big challenge for real-time video applications, and the rate adaptation of realtime video streaming becomes a hot topic. Intra-video coding is important for high-quality video communication and industrial video applications. In this paper, we proposed a novel adaptive scheme for real-time video transmission with intra-only coding over a wireless network. The key idea of this scheme is to estimate the instantaneous remaining capacity of the network to adjust the quality of the next several video frames, which not only can keep low queuing delay and ensure video quality, but also can respond to bandwidth changes quickly. We compare our scheme with three different schemes in the video transmission system. The experimental results show that our scheme has higher bandwidth utilization and faster bandwidth change response, while maintaining low queuing delay.

During the last decade, the multitude of advances attained in terminal computers, along with the introduction of mobile hand-held devices, and the deployment of high speed networks have led to a recent surge of interest in Quality of Service (QoS) for video applications. The main difficulty is that mobile devices experience disparate channel conditions, which results in different rates and patterns of packet loss. One way of making more efficient use of network resources in video services over wireless channels with heterogeneous characteristics to heterogeneous types of mobile device is to use a scalable video coding (SVC). An SVC divides a video stream into a base layer and a single or multiple enhancement layers. We have to ensure that the base layer of the video stream is successfully received and decoded by the subscribers, because it provides the basis for the subsequent decoding of the enhancement layer(s). At the same time, a system should be designed so that the enhancement layer(s) can be successfully decoded by as many users as possible, so that the average QoS is as high as possible. To accommodate these characteristics, we propose an efficient transmission scheme which incorporates SVC-aware dual-channel repetition to improve the perceived quality of services. We repeat the base-layer data over two channels, with different characteristics, to exploit transmission diversity. On the other hand, those channels are utilized to increase the data rate of enhancement layer data. This arrangement reduces service disruption under poor channel conditions by protecting the data that is more important to video decoding. Simulations show that our scheme safeguards the important packets and improves perceived video quality at a mobile device.
For mobile wireless systems with full frequency reuse, co-channel interference near the cell coverage boundaries has a significant impact on the signal reception performance. This paper addresses an approach to efficiently mitigate the effect of downlink co-channel interference when multi-antenna terminals are used in cellular environments, by proposing a signal detection strategy combined with a system-level coordination for dynamic frequency reuse. We demonstrate the utilization of multi-antennas to perform spatial demultiplexing of both the desired signal and interfering signals from adjacent cells results in significant improvement of spectral efficiency compared to the maximal ratio combining (MRC) performance, especially when an appropriate frequency reuse based on the traffic loading condition is coordinated among cells. Both analytic expressions for the capacity and experimental results using the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) are used to confirm the performance gain. The robustness of the proposed scheme against varying operational conditions such as the channel estimation error and shadowing effects are also verified by simulation results.

We can model marine uplink channel environment as time-correlated rician fading channel that has direct path and time varying reflected path. In this channel, error performance of uncoded system can be seriously degraded by multipath inteference. In this paper, we propose Concatenated Zigzag(CZZ) coded binary FSK signaling with noncoherent detection to improve error performance of uplink data in marine environment. CZZ code is a kind of channel coding scheme that is fast decodable as well as fast encodable. We have confirmed error performance of uplink data in marine environment can be improved dramatically through applying CZZ code.

The channel level difference (CLD) is a main parameter in the reference model 0 (RM0) for MPEG Surround. Nevertheless, the CLD quantization method in the RM0 has problems such as the lack of theoretical background and inappropriate quantization levels. In this letter, a new CLD quantization method is proposed based on the virtual source location information which has strength in the quantization process. From experimental results, it is confirmed that the proposed scheme greatly reduces the quantization distortions measured in dB and degrees without any additional complexity.
In this paper, we present performance analysis of an IEEE P802.15.3a high rate wireless personal area network transceiver. This physical layer standard uses QOSK as its sub-channel modulation scheme and orthogonal frequency domain modulation (OFDM) for sub-bands. OFDM is used for each sub-band so that multi-path effects are absorbed by equalizer and guard, and fading can be approximately modeled as additive white Gaussian noise. In multi-band ultra-wideband system, DAC quantization error is important noise source since high resolution conversion cannot be used due to high power consumption. Simulation result shows that, to get 640-Mbps throughput, at least 5-bits precision is necessary to maintain bit-error rate under 10$\^$-2/, which can be lowered, with channel coding, to 10$\^$-6/ that is the bit-error rate required by IEEE 802.15 upper protocol layer, in 4-meter LOS fading channel.
