In this paper, a soft-decision method for initial PN code acquisition in pilot-channel aided Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) systems is proposed in order to improve the acquisition performance. We apply this technique to the conventional hybrid search algorithm and analyze it in terms of mean code acquisition time. For the analysis, we present mathematical model of proposed algorithm and also perform the simulation under IMT-2000 channel models. Numerical results show that our proposed scheme outperforms the conventional one by 0.2 - 0.4 sec with respect to the mean code acquisition time because the soft decision technique can mitigate the possible decline in search performance caused by the use of a hard-decision technique.

This paper alms to analyse the performance of frequency hopping /spread spectrum multiple access system by employing the channel with mixture of AWGN, partial band Jamming, fading and user interference. The performance analysis of FH /SSMA system, taking account of frequency 'hit'(user Interference ) which occurs in the presence of multiple user, produces the following numerical results by computing error probability and throughput of each code in two cases whether the side Information about channel is used or not. The numerical results are as follows : When composite interferences coexist In channel, RS code Is significantly superior to convolutional code in terms of performance. Concatenated code provides the same performance as RS code. The above results show that RS code is pertinent as error-correction code.

Printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHEs) are widely used with an increasing demand for industrial applications. PCHEs are capable of operating at high temperatures and pressure. We consider a PCHE as a candidate intermediate heat exchanger type for a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR). For conventional application using stainless steels, design and manufacturing of PCHEs are well established. For applications to HTGR, knowledge of longitudinal conduction and deformation of channel is required to estimate design margin. This paper analyzes the effects of longitudinal conduction and deformation of channel on thermal performance using a code internally developed for design and analysis of PCHEs. The code has a capability of two dimensional simulations. Longitudinal conduction is estimated using the code. In HTGR operating condition, about ten percent of design margin is required to compensate thermal performance. The cross-sectional images of PCHE channels are obtained using an optical microscope. The images are processed with computer image process technique. We quantify the deformation of channel with dimensional parameters. It is found that the deformation has negative effect on structural integrity. The deformation enhances thermal performance when the shape of channel is straight in laminar flow regime. It reduces thermal performance in cases of a zigzag channel and turbulent flow regime.
Communication systems, including cell-based mobile communication systems, multiple satellite communication systems of multi-beam satellite systems, require reliable handoff methods between cell-to-cell, satellite-to-satellite of beam-to-team, respectively. Recent measurement of a CDMA cellular system indicates that the system is in handoff at about 35% to 70% of an average call period. Therefore, system reliability during handoff is one of the major system performance parameters and eventually becomes a factor in the overall system capacity. This paper presents novel and improved techniques for handoff in cellular communications, multi-beam and multi-satellite systems that require handoff during a session. this new handoff system combines the soft handoff mechanism currently implemented in the IS-95 CDMA with code and packet diversity combining techniques and an iterative decoding algorithm (Turbo Coding). the Turbo code introduced by Berrou et all. has been demonstrated its remarkable performance achieving the near Shannon channel capacity [1]. Recently. Turbo codes have been adapted as the coding scheme for the data transmission of the third generation international cellular communication standards : UTRA and CDMA 2000. Our proposed encoder and decoder schemes modified from the original Turbo code is suitable for the code and packet diversity combining techniques. this proposed system provides not only an unprecedented coding gain from the Turbo code and it iterative decoding, but also gain induced by the code and packet diversity combining technique which is similar to the hybrid Type II ARQ. We demonstrate performance improvements in AWGN channel and Rayleigh fading channel with perfect channel state information (CSI) through simulations for at low signal to noise ratio and analysis using exact upper bounding techniques for medium to high signal to noise ratio.

In this paper, we propose an efficient concatenated code for both random and ISI errors on diffusion-based molecular communication channels. The proposed concatenated code was constructed by combining the ISI-mitigating code designed for ISI mitigation and the ISI-Hamming code strong against random errors, and the BER(bit error rate) performance was analyzed through simulation. In the case of the above M=1,200 channel environment, it was found that the error rate performance of the concatenated code follows the error rate performance of the ISI-mitigating code, which is strong against ISI, and follows the error rate performance of the ISI-Hamming code, which is strong against random errors, in the channel environment below M=600. In M=600~1,200, the concatenated code shows the best error rate performance among those of three codes, which is analyzed because it can correct both random errors and errors caused by ISI. In the following cases of below M=800, it can be seen that the error rate of the concatenated code and the ISI-mitigating code shows an error rate difference of about 1.0×10-1 on average.

In this paper, by considering the real UWA channel environments, the measured channel data is used to generate the UWA channel model and calculate the relative parameters for underwater OFDM systems. Practical least square (LS) based channel estimation with linear interpolation are adopted to obtain the channel state information (CSI) at receiver side. As multi-input multi-output (MIMO) processing techniques, Alamouti code is implemented and evaluated to perform for space time block coding (STBC) and space frequency block coding (SFBC) for UWA OFDM systems with the MIMO configuration of $2{\times}1$, at the same time, $1{\times}2$ maximum ratio combining (MRC) is performed for the purpose of comparison. The simulation results show that, with perfect channel estimation, SFBC failed to work duo to the serious frequency selectivity of UWA channel environments. When the practical channel estimation is applied, in the case of STBC, the proposed 4-column pilot pattern gives better performance about 7dB than SISO system.

This paper proposes a coding scheme of control channel for mobile packet communication to maximize the minimum Hamming distance, which is based on shifting of basis vectors of Reed Muller code with optimized dynamic puncturing and/or(partial) sequence repetition. Since the maximum likelihood decoding can be performed using the extremely simple FHT(Fast Hadamard Transformation), it is suitable for real time optimum decoding of control channel information with very little complexity. We show applications of the proposed coding method to TFCI(Transport Format Combination Indicator) code in split and normal modes of 3GPP W-CDMA system. We also discuss how this method can reduce rate indication error over AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) as well as fading channels when the proposed coding scheme is applied to 1xEV-DV system of $3^{rd}$TEX> generation partnership project 2(3GPP2) to indicate the data rate transmitted on the reverse traffic channel by a Mobile Station(MS).
A practical method of adaptive rate allocation to source and channel codings for an independent loss channel is proposed for Internet video. It is based on the observations that the values of residual loss probabilities at the optimal code rates for different packet loss probabilities are closely clustered to the average residual loss probability for a transmission frame size n in RS(n,k) code and for a total bit rate R. These observations aye then exploited to find the code rate for maximum PSNR. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a near-optimal bit-rate allocation in the joint source-channel coding of H.263 and RS(n,k) codings.
OFDMA is considered as one of the major candidates for broadband wireless access. The OFDMA signal is usually coherently demodulated, requiring the channel estimation which can be estimated using a known pilot signal. In multi-cell environment, the performance of channel estimation is mainly limited by intercell interference. It is desirable to use a pilot signal that can estimate the channel information robust to the intercell interference in the OFDMA uplink system. In this paper, we consider two types of pilot signal applicable to multi-cell OFDMA uplink systems: One is time-multiplexed pilot signal and the other is codemultiplexed pilot signal. Simulation results show that the code-multiplexed pilot is suitable for low mobility environment and time-multiplexed pilot is suitable for high mobility environment.
The LDPC Code is focusing a powerful FEC(Forward Error Correction) codes for 4G Mobile Communication system. LDPC codes are used minimizing channel errors by modeling AWGN Channel as VDSL system. The performance of LDPC code is better than that of turbo code in long code word on iterative decoding algorithm. LDPC code are encoded by sparse parity check matrix. there are decoding algorithms for a LDPC code, Bit Flipping, Message passing, Sum-Product. Because LDPC Codes use low density parity bit, mathematical complexity is low and relating processing time becomes shorten.
