For higher reliability against component failures in railroad trains with many electronic sensors and actuators, a distributed control system with which all electronic components are connected via a network is being considered. This paper compares and analyzes various topologies of Ethernet network for a railroad train in the aspects of (1) failure recovery, (2) the number of ports per device, (3) the number of cable connections between vehicles, and (4) performance. Especially, the unique characteristic of a train system that the number of vehicles changes is considered through analysis. Various combinations of in- and inter-vehicle topologies are considered. In addition, we introduce a hybrid of star and daisy-chain topology for inter-vehicle connection when the maximum number of inter-vehicle connections is limited to reduce possible failures of inter-vehicle connections. Simulation results show performance comparison between different topology combinations; the hybrid topology is shown to enhance delay performance even with a highly limited number of inter-vehicle connections.

Gingival fibroblasts(GF) and periodontal ligament fibroblasts(PDLF) are the major cellular components of periodontal soft connective tissues, but the precise molecular biological differences between these cells are not yet known. In the present study, we investigated the expression of S100A4, S100A2 calcium-binding protein and osteoblast-specific factor 2(OSF-2, Periostin) mRNA in GF and PDLF in vitro through the process of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and Northern blot analysis in each. Human GF and PDLF were isolated from the gingival connective tissue and the middle third of freshly extracted healthy third molars. They were cultured in Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium(DMEM) containing 10% fetal bovine serum and cells in the third passage were used in the experiments. After extracting total RNA from cultured cells, RT-PCR and Northern analysis were performed using S100A4-, S100A2- and Periostin-specific oligonucleotide primers and subcloned cDNA probes in each. In PT-PCR and Northern analysis, the expression of S100A4 and Periostin mRNA in GF was slightly detectable. Interestingly, the expression of S100A4 and periostin mRNA in PDLF was much higher than that in GF. On the other hand, S100A2 mPNA was highly expressed in both GF and PDLF. Since there was a marked difference of S100A4 and Periostin expression between GF and PDLF in vitro, these data suggest that S100A4 and periostin could be used as a useful marker for distinguishing cultured gingival fibroblasts and periodontal ligament cells.

In this paper, we propose the classifier structure design algorithm using DTW. Proposed algorithm uses DTW result to design the binary tree architecture based on the SVM which classify the multi-class data. Design the binary tree architecture for Support Vector Machine(SVM-BTA) using the threshold criterion calculated by the sum columns in square matrix which components are the reference data from each class. For comparison the performance of the proposed algorithm, compare the results of classifiers which binary tree structure are designed based on database and k-means algorithm. The data used for classification is 333 signals from 18 classes of underwater transient noise. The proposed classifier has been improved classification performance compared with classifier designed by database system, and probability of detection for non-biological transient signal has improved compare with classifiers using k-means algorithm. The proposed SVM-BTA classified 68.77% of biological sound(BO), 92.86% chain(CHAN) the mechanical sound, and 100% of the 6 kinds of the other classes.

Soybean oil was stored in polyethylene for 12 weeks at $20^{\circ}C$. The influence of LED (light emitting diode) irradiation on four different wavelengths and fluorescent light was investigated. The pattern changes of volatile components in soybean oil was analyzed by electronic nose based on mass spectrometer. The obtained data from electronic nose were analyzed by discrimination function analysis. Under fluorescent light, the discriminant function first score (DF1) was significantly moved from positive position to negative one after 4-12 weeks. It means that the volatile compounds related to quality of lipid. It was shown to increase slowly due to green light of LED treatment, while blue and white LED light was influenced significantly as well as fluorescent light irradiation. Selection of LED irradiation would provide to keep good quality of soybean oil under distribution chain system.

This study examined the effects of supplementation of fish oil and canola oil in the diet on milk yield, milk components and fatty acid composition of Holstein dairy cows in early lactation. Eight multiparous early lactation Holstein cows ($42{\pm}12$ DIM, $40{\pm}6kg$ daily milk yield) were fed a total mixed ration supplemented with either 0% oil (Control), 2% fish oil (FO), 1% canola oil +1% fish oil (FOCO), or 2% canola oil (CO) according to a double $4{\times}4$ Latin square design. Each period lasted 3 wk; experimental analyses were restricted to the last week of each period. Supplemental oils were added to a basal diet which was formulated according to NRC (2001) and consisted of 20% alfalfa, 20% corn silage and 60% concentrate. Milk yield was similar between diets (p>0.05), but dry matter intake (DMI) was lower (p<0.05) in cows fed FO diet compared to other diets. Milk fat percentage and daily yield decreased (p<0.01) with the supplementation of fish and canola oil. The daily yield and percentage of milk protein, lactose and solids-not-fat (SNF) were not affected by diets (p>0.05). The proportion (g/100 g fatty acids) of short chain fatty acids (SCFA) decreased and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) increased (p<0.05) in milk of all cows fed diets supplemented with oil. The proportions of 6:0, 8:0, 10:0 12:0 and 14:0 fatty acids in milk fat decreased (p<0.01) for all diets supplemented with oil, but the proportions of 14:1, 16:0 and 16:1 fatty acids were not affected by diets (p>0.05). The proportion of trans(t)-18:1 increased (p<0.01) in milk fat of cows fed FO and FOCO diets, but CO diet had the highest proportion of cis(c)-11 18:1 (p<0.01). The concentration of t-10, c-12 18:2, c-9 t-11 18:2, 18:3, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6) increased (p<0.05) in FO and FOCO diets in comparison with the other two diets. These data indicate that including fish oil in combination with canola oil significantly modifies the fatty acid composition of milk.
BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the combined effects of three components (NPK) of chemical fertilizers with basal application of compost on soil organisms.METHODS AND RESULTS: The soil was treated with five treatments continuously for 15 years: control, PK, NK, NP and NPK. The application of N increased plant growth or biomass, and enhanced organic matter content in the soils. Levels of microbial phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) in the soils did not show marked differences among the soils treated with different treatments. However, the principal component analysis showed the changes in the structure of the microbial community in the soil, depending on treatments added. Nitrogen application caused a decrease of pH and an increase of EC in the soils, and these environmental stresses appeared to offset the promoting effect of increased organic matter content on microbial abundance. The abundance of bacterivorous nematodes was the highest in the soils after treating NPK; however, the abundance of fungivorous nematodes was unaffected. There was no significant correlation between the abundances of microbial groups and their feeders. Organic matter content was significantly correlated with the abundance of nematodes in the soils.CONCLUSION: Our results showed that chemical fertilizers affect the soil food chains through both biotic and abiotic factors, and a trophic cascade in the soils may not occur in response to long-term fertilization.
Determining the origin of the components in commercially available gelatin, a purified protein derived mostly from pig skin and bovine tissue, is a challenge, leading to concerns on the grounds of religious beliefs and health. Therefore, regular monitoring of labeling compliance by food control authorities is also necessary. In this study, we monitored the origin of gelatin capsules from 181 commercial dietary supplements that were available for purchase on the internet, using species-specific PCR assays. Fifty five products were labeled correctly, declaring that they used bovine-, fish- and plant-derived gelatin, whereas the other 126 capsules were labeled "gelatin" without specifying the origin. Gelatin in these capsules was obtained from cattle (n = 51), pigs (n = 31), or both (n = 44). Therefore, it is important to declare all of the raw materials used to produce gelatin capsules on the labels to best protect consumers' rights, religious beliefs, and health.
Objectives In this study, the author tried to investigate whether piryongbang-gamgil-tang (PGGT) significantly affect in vitro airway mucin secretion, PMA- or EGF- or TNF-${\alpha}$-induced MUC5AC mucin production / gene expression from human airway epithelial cells and increase in airway epithelial mucosubstances and hyperplasia of tracheal goblet cells of rats. Materials and Methods For in vitro experiment, confluent RTSE cells were chased for 30 min in the presence of PGGT to assess the effect of PGGT on mucin secretion by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Also, effect of PGGT on PMA- or EGFor TNF-${\alpha}$-induced MUC5AC mucin production and gene expression from human airway epithelial cells (NCI-H292) were investigated. Confluent NCI-H292 cells were pretreated for 30 min in the presence of PGGT and treated with PMA (10 ng/ml) or EGF (25 ng/ml) or TNF-${\alpha}$ (0.2 nM) for 24 hrs, to assess both effect of PGGT on PMA- or EGF- or TNF-${\alpha}$-induced MUC5AC mucin production by ELISA and gene expression by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). For in vivo experiment, the author induced hypersecretion of airway mucus and goblet cell hyperplasia by exposure of rats to $SO_2$ during 3 weeks. Effect of orally-administered PGGT during 2 weeks on increase in airway epithelial mucosubstances from tracheal goblet cells of rats and hyperplasia of goblet cells were assesed by using histopathological analysis after staining the epithelial tissue with alcian blue. Possible cytotoxicities of PGGT in vitro were assessed by examining LDH release from RTSE cells and the rate of survival and proliferation of NCI-H292 cells. In vivo liver and kidney toxicities of PGGT were evaluated by measuring serum GOT/GPT activities and serum BUN/creatinine concentrations of rats after administering PGGT orally. Results (1) PGGT did not affect in vitro mucin secretion from cultured RTSE cells. (2) PGGT significantly inhibited PMA-, EGF-, and TNF-${\alpha}$-induced MUC5AC mucin productions and the expression levels of MUC5AC mRNA from NCI-H292 cells. (3) PGGT decreased the amount of intraepithelial mucosubstances and showed the tendency of expectorating airway mucus already produced. (4) PGGT increased LDH release from RTSE cells. However, PGGT did not show in vivo liver and kidney toxicities and cytotoxicity to NCI-H292 cells. Conclusion The result from this study suggests that PGGT can regulate the production and gene expression of airway mucin observed in diverse respiratory diseases accompanied by mucus hypersecretion and do not show in vivo toxicity to liver and kidney functions after oral administration. Effect of PGGT with their components should be further studied using animal experimental models that reflect the diverse pathophysiology of respiratory diseases through future investigations.
Lacquer has been used as a natural paint or adhesive in Korea since 2nd century B.C. It has been found to have been used as an adhesive as mentioned in old records and as seen in excavated relics, It was also mixed with flour, animal glue, or fish glue to produce lacquer adhesives. Qualitative analysis and evaluation of the applicability of lacquer and additives was performed in this study. The results of EGA analysis for lacquer additives confirmed that the pyrolysis temperature of lacquer, glucose glue, and animal glue. On the basis of this result, raw lacquer sample was checked that pyrolysis product that originated from urushiol side chain (R group). Components originating from glucose and amino acid were detected in glutinous rice paste and animal glue samples. In this study, the optimum pyrolysis temperature for each lacquer and additive mixture was determined from basic qualitative analysis data. By performing the qualitative analysis of each mixture, the applicability of this technique for analyzing real relics was evaluated.
