Electric power transmission utilities make an effort to maximize profit by reducing their electricity supply and operation costs while maintaining their reliability. The development of maintenance strategies for aged components is one of the more effective ways to achieve this goal. The reliability centered approach is a key method in providing optimal maintenance strategies. It considers the tradeoffs between the upfront maintenance costs and the potential costs incurred by reliability losses. This paper discusses the application of the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique used to find the optimal maintenance strategy for a transmission component in order to achieve the minimum total expected cost composed of Generation Cost (GC), Maintenance Cost (MC), Repair Cost (RC) and Outage Cost (OC). Three components of a transmission system are considered: overhead lines, underground cables and insulators are considered. In regards to aged and aging component, a component state model that uses a modified Markov chain is proposed. A simulation has been performed on an IEEE 9-bus system. The results from this simulation are quite encouraging, and then the proposed approach will be useful in practical maintenance scheduling.

The demand for e-learning through video lectures is rapidly increasing due to its diverse advantages over the traditional learning methods. This led to massive volumes of web-based lecture videos. Indexing and retrieval of a lecture video or a lecture video topic has thus proved to be an exceptionally challenging problem. Many techniques listed by literature were either visual or audio based, but not both. Since the effects of both the visual and audio components are equally important for the content-based indexing and retrieval, the current work is focused on both these components. A framework for automatic topic-based indexing and search depending on the innate content of the lecture videos is presented. The text from the slides is extracted using the proposed Merged Bounding Box (MBB) text detector. The audio component text extraction is done using Google Speech Recognition (GSR) technology. This hybrid approach generates the indexing keywords from the merged transcripts of both the video and audio component extractors. The search within the indexed documents is optimized based on the Naïve Bayes (NB) Classification and K-Means Clustering models. This optimized search retrieves results by searching only the relevant document cluster in the predefined categories and not the whole lecture video corpus. The work is carried out on the dataset generated by assigning categories to the lecture video transcripts gathered from e-learning portals. The performance of search is assessed based on the accuracy and time taken. Further the improved accuracy of the proposed indexing technique is compared with the accepted chain indexing technique.
In this paper, four specimens of CFST column joints with endplates and long bolts are tested in the scenario of progressive collapse. Flush endplate and extended endplate are both adopted in this study. The experimental results show that increasing the thickness of the endplate could improve the behavior of the joint, but delay the mobilization of catenary action. The thickness of the endplate should not be relatively thick in comparison to the diameter of the bolts, otherwise catenary action would not be mobilized or work effectively. Effective bending deformation of the endplate could help the formation and development of catenary action in the joints. The performance of flexural action in the joint would affect the formation of catenary action in the joint. Extra middle-row bolts set at the endplates and structural components set below the bottom beam flange should be used to enhance the robustness of joints. A special weld access hole between beam and endplate should be adopted to mitigate the chain damage potential of welds. It is suggested that the structural components of joints should be independent of each other to enhance the robustness of joints. Based on the component method, a formula calculating the stiffness coefficient of preloaded long bolts was proposed whose results matched well with the experimental results.

Major developed countries are seriously considering smart factories to increase their manufacturing competitiveness. Smart factory is a customized factory that incorporates ICT in the entire process from product planning to design, distribution and sales. This can reduce production costs and respond flexibly to the consumer market. The smart factory converts physical signals into digital signals, connects machines, parts, factories, manufacturing processes, people, and supply chain partners in the factory to each other, and uses the collected data to enable the smart factory platform to operate intelligently. Enhancing personalized value is the key. Therefore, it can be said that the success or failure of a smart factory depends on whether big data is secured and utilized. Standardized communication and collaboration are required to smoothly acquire big data inside and outside the factory in the smart factory, and the use of big data can be maximized through big data analysis. This study examines big data analysis and standardization in smart factory. Manufacturing innovation by country, smart factory construction framework, smart factory implementation key elements, big data analysis and visualization, etc. will be reviewed first. Through this, we propose services such as big data infrastructure construction process, big data platform components, big data modeling, big data quality management components, big data standardization, and big data implementation consulting that can be suggested when building big data infrastructure in smart factories. It is expected that this proposal can be a guide for building big data infrastructure for companies that want to introduce a smart factory.

We present H I gas kinematics and star formation activities of NGC 6822, a dwarf galaxy located in the Local Volume at a distance of ~ 490 kpc. We perform profile decomposition of the line-of-sight velocity profiles of the high-resolution (42.4" × 12" spatial; 1.6 km/s spectral) H I data cube taken with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). For this, we use a new tool, the so-called BAYGAUD (BAYesian GAUssian Decompositor) which is based on Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques, allowing us to decompose a line-of-sight velocity profile into an optimal number of Gaussian components in a quantitative manner. We classify the decomposed H I gas components of NGC 6822 into bulk-narrow, bulk-broad, and non_bulk with respect to their velocity and velocity dispersion. We correlate their gas surface densities with the surface star formation rates derived using both GALEX far-ultraviolet and WISE 22 micron data to examine the impact of gas turbulence caused by stellar feedback on the Kennicutt-Schmidt (K-S) law. The bulk-narrow component that resides within r25 is likely to follow the linear extension of the Kennicutt-Schmidt (K-S) law for molecular hydrogen (H2) at the low gas surface density regime where H I is not saturated.

This study describes the effects of several components on PCR amplification used for RAPD. We used different concentrations of reaction components to obtaine discrete and reproducible PCR products from Pleurotus cornucopiae. The optimum concentrations of reaction components were found to be 80 ng of template DNA, 30 pmole of 10-mer primer, $200\;{\mu}M$ dNTP, 2mM $MgCl_2$, 50 mM KCl, 10 mM Tris-HCl(pH 9.0), 0.1% Triton X-100, 1.5 unit of Taq DNA polymerase (promega) in $50\;{\mu}l$ reaction volume. The optimum annealing temperature was $35^{\circ}C$. These results proved to be valuable for characterization of Pleurotus spp.
There has recently been a trend that IT industry is united with traditional industries such as military, aviation, automobile, and medical industry. Therefore, embedded software which controls hardware of the system should guarantee the high reliability, availability, and maintainability. To guarantee these properties, there are many attempts to develop the embedded software based on COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) hardware components. However, it can cause additional faults due to software/hardware interactions beside general software faults in this methodology. We called the faults, Linkage Fault. These faults have high severity that makes overall system shutdown although their occurrence frequency is extremely low. In this paper, we propose a new software reliability model which considers those linkage faults in embedded software development with COTS hardware components. We use the Bayesian Analysis and Markov Chain Monte-Cairo method to validate the model. In addition, we analyze real linkage fault data to support the results of the theoretical model.
This paper proposes a way of designing of a global logistics system for "the international cooperative global complementary production system" (ICGCPS) constructed in ASEAN region. ICGCPS is a global production system with several production bases located in a number of countries. In order to assemble the final products and sell them in the domestic market, each production base produces only special kinds of components and parts with the total demand required all the participating countries, and supplies them to the other production bases each other. In the ICGCPS, there are a number of important decision-making problems such as identifying which countries are suitable to produce specified components and parts, and deciding how to transport components and parts between the production bases. In the initial period of this system, each production base focused on its domestic market so that the final products it produced were sold only in the country where the base was located. Recently, some production bases have expanded sales to overseas markets. Taking this fact into account, we propose a production and transportation planning model in this paper that takes into account the export quantity of the final products, formulating it into a mathematical programming problem. Using this, we propose a way for managing the supply chain processes of the ICGCPS in order to improve performance measurements such as the total lead-time, the inventory quantity at the depot and the average rate of loading. A numerical example is presented to clarify the procedure proposed in this paper.
In an attempt to investigate whether hemorrhage affects the gene expression of the renin-angioteusin system (RAS) components in the brain and peripheral angiotensin-generating tissues, changes in mRNA levels of the RAS components in response to hemorrhage were measured in conscious unrestrained rats. Wistar rats were bled at a rate of 3 ml/kg/min for 5 min, and then decapitated 7 h after hemorrhage. Levels of mRNA for renin, angiotensinogen and angiotensin $II-AT_1$ receptor subtypes ($AT_{1A}$ and $AT_{1B}$) were determined with the methods of northern blot and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Hemorrhage produced a profound hypotension with tachycardia, but blood pressure and heart rate recovered close to the basal level at 7 h. Plasma and renal renin levels were significantly increased at 7 h. Hemorrhage induced rapid upregulation of gene expression of both $AT_{1A}$ and $AT_{1B}$ receptor subtypes in the brainstem and hypothalamus, downregulation of them in the adrenal gland and liver. However, renin mRNA level increased in the brainstem, decreased in the liver, but was not changed in the hypothalamus, kidney and adrenals after hemorrhage. Angiotensinogen mRNA level was not significantly changed in any of the tissue except a slight increase in the liver. The kidney and liver did not show any significant change in gene expression of the RAS components. These results suggest that gene expression of the RAS in central and peripheral tissues are, at least in part, under independent control and the local RAS in each organ plays specific physiologic role.
We present an example-based approach to synthesizing physically simulated Rube Goldberg machines in which a series of rigid body elements are sequentially triggered and driven along the causal chain. Given a set of elements, our goal is to automatically instantiate and arrange those elements to meet the user-specified requirements including the start and end positions, and the boundary of movement. To do so, we first sample small-scale machines consisting of only a few elements randomly, and represent the connectivity between every pair of components as a graph structure. Searching over possible paths in this graph solves our problem by finding a path that can be unrolled to satisfy the given requirements, and then assembling components sequentially along the solution path. In order to ensure that the machine works precisely in a physically simulated environment, we finally elaborate the layout of assembled components by a simple greedy algorithm. We demonstrate the usefulness of our approach by displaying a large diversity of Rube Goldberg machines built with only five kinds of elements.
