  • The effects of the opaque porcelain firing temperature, the bonding agent and the degassing prior to the opaque firing On the bond strength were investigated by means of the tensile shear stIe$. The diffusional behaviours at the interface of the porcelain and the alloy, and .the microstructures of the ceramic and metal composite were studied for understanding the bonding mechanism. The results obtained in this experiment were summarizd as follow; 1. With no application of bonding agent, the tensile shear strength of the specimen firing at $1840^{\circ}F$ was higher than that of the specimen firing at $1760^{\circ}F$. 2. The highest bond strength was obtained by application of bonding agent without degassing prior to the opaque firing. 3. Application of bonding agent after the degassing showed the lowest bond strength. 4. The greater number of pores were observed at the firing temperature of $1840^{\circ}F$ than that of $1760^{\circ}F$ in the porcelain and the interface respectively.

팔라듐 합금 수소분리막의 내구성 향상 (Improvement in Long-term Stability of Pd Alloy Hydrogen Separation Membranes)

  • Pd alloy hydrogen membranes for hydrogen purification and separation need thermal stability at high temperature for commercial applications. Intermetallic diffusion between the Pd alloy film and the porous metal support gives rise to serious problems in long-term stability of Pd alloy membranes. Ceramic barriers are widely used to prevent the intermetallic diffusion from the porous metal support. However, these layers result in poor adhesion at the interface between film and barrier because of the fundamentally poor chemical affinity and a large thermal stress. In this study, we developed Pd alloy membranes having a dense microstructure and saturated composition on modified metal supports by advanced DC magnetron sputtering and heat treatment for enhanced thermal stability. Experimental results showed that Pd-Cu and Pd-Ag alloy membranes had considerably enhanced long-term stability owing to stable, dense alloy film microstructure and saturated composition, effective diffusion barrier, and good adhesive interface layer.

Zinc tin oxide 투명박막트랜지스터의 특성에 미치는 열처리 효과 (Thermal treatments effects on the properties of zinc tin oxide transparent thin film transistors)

  • Zn와 Sn의 원자비가 2:1인 타겟을 고주파 스파터링하여 $ZnO-SnO_2(ZTO)$박막을 증착하고 열처리에 따른 구조적 특성변화를 조사하였다. 이 ZTO박막을 활성층으로 사용하여 투명박막트랜지스터(TTFT)를 제조하였다. 약 100 nm 두께의 $SiO_2$위에 100 nm의 $Si_3N_4$막을 기른 후 TTFT의 게이트 절연막으로 채택하였다. TTFT의 전달 특성을 통해 이동도, 문턱전압, 작동전류-차단전류 비($I_{on}/I_{off}$), 계면트랩밀도를 구하였다. 기판 가열 및 후속 열처리가 ZTO TTFT의 특성 변화에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.

Co/Al 다층 박막 구조 시스템에서의 열처리에 따른 계면 반응에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Interfacial Reaction of Co/Al Multilayer System)

  • Co/Al 다층 박막을 2 nm/2 nm, 5 nm/5 nm, 10 nm/10 nm의 두께로 증착한 후, 후속 열처리에 따른 Co/Al 다층 박막의 미세구조와 전기적, 자기적 특성 변화를 관찰하였다. 증착 중에 계면 반응에 의해 CoAl 화합물이 형성되는 사실을 확인하였으며, 후속 열처리에 의해 결정질 화합물 CoAl상의 형성 반응이 활발하게 일어나고, Si과의 계면에서는 $Co_2Si$상이 형성됨을 확인하였다. Co/Al 다층 박막의 증착 직후, 조성에 따른 면저항값은 Co 2 nm/Al 2 nm 다층 박막의 경우가 가장 큰 값을 나타내었으며, 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 코발트 실리사이드 형성 등의 이유로 면저항값이 급격하게 감소함을 관찰 할 수 있었다. 또한 포화 자화값은 Co 2 nm/Al 2 nm 다층 박막의 경우가 가장 낮은 값을 나타내었고, 다층 박막을 이루는 각층의 두께가 증가할수록 포화 자화값이 증가하는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다.

바이오센서로 응용을 위한 양극산화알루미늄의 양극산화 온도에 따른 제작 및 전기적 특성 (Fabrication and Electrical Properties of Anodic Aluminum Oxide Membrane with Various Anodizing Temperatures for Biosensor)

  • We fabricated the electrolyte-dielectric-metal (EDM) sensor on the base of AAO (anodic aluminum oxide) template with variation of the anodizing temperature. When a surface is immersed or created in an aqueous solution, a discontinuity is formed at the interface where such physicochemical variables as electrical potential and electrolyte concentration change significantly from the aqueous phase to another phase. Because of the different chemical potentials between the two phases, charge separation often occurs at the interfacial region [1]. This interfacial region, togeter with the charged surface, is usually known as the electrical double layer (EDL) [2]. The structural and electrochemical properties of AAO sensor were investigated for applications in capacitive pH sensors. To change the thickness of the AAO template, the anodizing temperature was varied from $5^{\circ}C$ to $20^{\circ}C$, the thickness of the AAO template invreased from 300 nm to 477 nm. The pH sensitivity of sensors with the anodizing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ showed the highest value of 56.4 mV/pH in the pH range of 3 to 11. The EDM sensor with the anodizing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ exhibited the best long-term stability of 0.037 mV/h.

In vitro evaluation of fracture strength of zirconia restoration veneered with various ceramic materials

  • PURPOSE. Fracture of the veneering material of zirconia restorations frequently occurs in clinical situations. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the fracture strengths of zirconia crowns veneered with various ceramic materials by various techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A 1.2 mm, $360^{\circ}$ chamfer preparation and occlusal reduction of 2 mm were performed on a first mandibular molar, and 45 model dies were fabricated in a titanium alloy by CAD/CAM system. Forty-five zirconia copings were fabricated and divided into three groups. In the first group (LT) zirconia copings were veneered with feldspathic porcelain by the layering technique. In the second group (HT) the glass ceramic was heat-pressed on the zirconia coping, and for the third group (ST) a CAD/CAM-fabricated high-strength anatomically shaped veneering cap was sintered onto the zirconia coping. All crowns were cemented onto their titanium dies with Rely $X^{TM}$ Unicem (3M ESPE) and loaded with a universal testing machine (Instron 5583) until failure. The mean fracture values were compared by an one-way ANOVA and a multiple comparison post-hoc test (${\alpha}$= 0.05). Scanning electron microscope was used to investigate the fractured interface. RESULTS. Mean fracture load and standard deviation was $4263.8{\pm}1110.8$ N for Group LT, $5070.8{\pm}1016.4$ for Group HT and $6242.0{\pm}1759.5$ N for Group ST. The values of Group ST were significantly higher than those of the other groups. CONCLUSION. Zirconia crowns veneered with CAD/CAM generated glass ceramics by the sintering technique are superior to those veneered with feldspathic porcelain by the layering technique or veneered with glass ceramics by the heat-pressing technique in terms of fracture strength.

방전 플라즈마 소결법을 이용한 CoSb3계 열전재료의 전극 접합 및 특성 (Joining and properties of electrode for CoSb3 thermoelectric materials prepared by a spark plasma sintering method)

  • 중고온용 열전 소재로 우수한 특성을 나타내는 $CoSb_3$계 소재의 열전 소자 제조를 위해 방전플라즈마 소결법을 이용하여 소결 및 Cu-Mo 전극 소재와의 접합을 동시에 실시하였다. $CoSb_3$ 내부로의 Cu 확산을 방지하기 위해 Ti을 중간층으로 삽입하였으며 열팽창계수의 조절을 위해 Cu : Mo = 3 : 7 부피비 조성을 선택하였다. 삽입된 Ti과 $CoSb_3$$TiSb_2$ 이 차상을 형성하면서 접합이 진행되었지만 접합 온도 및 접합 시간의 증가에 따라 TiSb 및 TiCoSb 등의 상의 형성에 의해 접합 계면에서 균열이 발생되어 접합 특성을 악화시키는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

Ferroelectric Properties and Comparison between $PZT/IrO_2$ and PZT/Ir

  • Reactively sputtered $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$(PZT) films on $IrO_2$and Ir were evaluated with particular consideration on interface properties. The $IrO_2$and Ir were previously annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$or $N_2$atmosphere, respectively. There was no appreciable roughening in the interface of the $PZT/IrO_2$respective to that of the PZT/Ir; the rms roughness of $IrO_2$and Ir was about 3nm and 10nm, respectively. The ferroelectric properties of the $PZT/IrO_2$were found to be better than that of the PZT/Ir; however, the leakage current of the $PZT/IrO_2$was slightly larger than that of the PZT/Ir. The $PZT/IrO_2$thin films did not exhibit any fatigue up to $10^{11}$ cycles; the $P^*\;_r-P^r$ value decreased only from 16.6 to 14$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ until $10^{12}$ polarization reversals. On the other hand, although thin $IrO_2$layer was formed between PZT and Ir, the PZT/Ir thin films began to undergo fatigue after $10^9$ polarization reversals.

Bonding Strength of Conductive Inner-Electrode Layers in Piezoelectric Multilayer Ceramics

  • Multilayer ceramics in which piezoelectric layers of $0.90Pb(Zr_{0.48}Ti_{0.52})O_3-0.05Pb(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})O_3-0.05Pb(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ (0.90PZT-0.05PMS-0.05PZN) stack alternately with silver electrode layers were prepared by an advanced low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) method. The electrical properties and bonding strength of the multilayers were associated with the interface morphologies between the piezoelectric and silver-electrode layers. Usually, the inner silver electrodes are fabricated by sintering silver paste in multi-layer stacks. To improve the interface bonding strength, piezoelectric powders of 0.90PZT-0.05PMS-0.05PZN with an average particle size of $23{\mu}m$ were added to silver paste to form a gradient interface. SEM observation indicated clear interfaces in multilayer ceramics without powder addition. With the increase of piezoelectric powder addition in the silver paste, gradient interfaces were successfully obtained. The multilayer ceramics with gradient interfaces present greater bonding strength as well as excellent piezoelectric properties for 30~40 wt% of added powder. On the other hand, over addition greatly increased the resistance of the inner silver electrodes, leading to a piezoelectric behavior like that of bulk ceramics in multilayers.

플라즈마 용사된 $ZrO_{2}$-단열 코팅층의 특성 및 열처리에 따른 접합강도변화 (Characteristic and Adhesive Strength Change by Heat Treatment of the Plasma Sprayed $ZrO_{2}$- Thermal Barrier Coatings(TBC))

  • 플라즈마 용사법을이용하여 AISI 316 스테인레스 금속모재에 0.1mm 두께의 $NiCrAlCoY_{2}O_{3}$금속 결합층과 0.3mm 두께의 $ZrO_{2}(8wt%Y_{2}O_3$) 세라믹층으로 구성된 이층 단열코팅층을 제조하였다. 코팅층의 미세조직, 금속결합층의 산화를 고찰하였으며, $900^{\circ}C$에서 등은 시험과 열반복시험 후, 접합강도시험을 통하여 코팅층의 단사정 상은 열처리시간이 길어질수록 약간 증가하였다. 또한 비변태성 t'의 c/a는 용사상태에서 1.0099이였으며, 100시간 열처리 후에는 1.0115로 약간 증가하였다. 그리고 용사층의 접합강도는 열처리 시간이 길어질수록 감소하였다. 등온열처리 후에는 1.0115로 약간 증가하였다. 그리고 용사층 의 접합강도는 열처리 시간이 길어질수록 감소하였다. 등온열처리 후, 파괴는 주로 세라믹층에서 일어났으며, 반복 열처리되 시편에서는 10회 이후 대부분 금속결합층/세라믹층의 계면에서 일어났다.
