  • This paper discusses Leon Battista Alberti's vision of the paradigmatic city. In his De re aedificatoria, Alberti proposes how the architecture of both individual buildings and cities should be ordered and embellished. Borrowing ideas from the ancient writers on one hand, and reflecting on actual urban reality on the other, Alberti proposes an ideal city where the sacred and the secular come together in hierarchical harmony, beautified under the principle of ornament. In Book VIII, dealing with secular public works of architecture, he writes about the composition of a new humanist city that transcends actual reality. Ornament, a central idea of his aesthetics, supports his conception of the paradigmatic city.

  • Ansan city in the coastal area of the mid-western Korea is known as a newly industrialized city(73.44$Km^2$, 127, 000 persons), with the increase rate of 27.8% in population and mean density of 1, 732 persons/$Km^2$. According to the census of the city(1986), it consists of cultivated field(36.8%), forest(34.2%), industrial area(7.4%), residential area(4.1%) and others(12.5%). The forest vegetation in the city is composed of four associations and two subassociations as follows; Pinus rigida, Pinus densiflora-Rhododendron mucronulatum, Quercus mongolica-Rhododendron mucronulatum and Robinia pseudo-acacia asociation, and Quercus mongolica-Corylus sieboldiana var. mandshurica and Robinia pseudoacacia-Alnus hirsuta subassociation. Various environmental conditions have been changed with the progress of urbanization of the city, since 1977. For example, a heat island phenomenon, which is the air temperature of 2 or 3$^{\circ}C$ higher in the central area than that of the boundary area, and floral changes caused by air pollutants such as decreasing bryophyte species along increasing SO$_2$ concentration.

  • This study selected commonly known species of fruit trees, and re-selected the species that endure the stress of extreme cold weather and physiologically restore themselves to the previous state until the following year. Then we could go ahead to propose the species that were appropriate as urban greening plants in weather condition of any part of the country. To do this, we conducted an experiments for six species of fruit trees based on the preference of the general public and recommendation of the experts; Morus alba (English name: mulberries), Diospyros kaki (English name: Persimmon), Prunus persia (English name: Peach), Elaeagnus umbellata var. coreana (English name: Korean Autumn Olive), Malus domestica 'Alps Otome' (English name: Alps Otome), and Prunus mume (English name: Blue Plum). The experiment verifies whether the trees survive without any stress from the cold weather under the national climate conditions (one in the suburbs of Seoul: Yongin city, one in the central Chungcheong region: Daejeon city, and in the southern Gyeongsang region: Jinju city in Korea). The experiment lasted for a year from August 2016 to August 2017. The levels of electrolytic efflux, chlorophyll content, plant height, fresh weight, and dry weight were measured four times (on August of 2016, January, February, and August of 2017) for each tree planted bare ground outdoors. Results showed that Diospyros kaki, Prunus persia, and Malus domestica 'Alps Otome' were proven durable and resistant to winters of all three areas (one in the suburbs of Seoul: Yongin city, one in the central Chungcheong region: Daejeon city, and in the southern Gyeongsang region: Jinju city in Korea). Especially, the increase of chlorophyll content and the reduction of electrolytic efflux were noticeable in Prunus persia than in the other two species, proving itself as the most cold-tolerant among the six species used in the experiment. In addition, interpreting from the physiological restoration data of one-year span before and after getting through winterer, Prunus persia was proven to be the most cold-tolerant species.

  • Although the efficient formation of urban space structure is a key factor in energy saving and environmentally-friendly aspect, the maintenance of the center and sub-center of the city that are key factors has been becoming increasingly difficult due to the variability and complexity of urban activities. In the case of Busan, amid the expansion of urban scale due to rapid economic development and overpopulation, systematic approaches to professional diagnosis and maintenance have been significantly insufficient - other than the city basic plan which has been conducted at an interval of 20 years. For the effective management of urban central area, systematic monitoring of the CBD through demand forecast and blight forecast at a city level must first be implemented. In order to fulfill this goal, this study is to figure out the current state of the CBD through the diagnosis on blight of the urban central area in the viewpoint of rehabilitation of the CBD and to propose the measures for practical utilization of the information about space for the further management of the central area of the city. For analysis, the study looks into the present state in terms of physical index, economic index, and social index. And then as a micro-approach by utilizing economic index, the study has thoroughly examined the economic blight of the Seomyun urban central area of Busan. The outcome of the analysis shows that in terms of population distribution and land utilization the area is in the stage of inefficient dispersion after having gone through the stage of suburbanization. It is expected that this study, as the material that proves the necessity of enhancing the function of the CBD, can propose the direction for the management of the urban center of Busan through blight prediction and management of the urban center and can provide the basic data for the long-term urban development that aims at the efficient strengthening of functions of the CBD.

  • This study analyzes the process of growth of Busan from a fishing village to the capital city of South Gyeongsang Province and the central city of transportation and commerce, and an industry with records. The results of the analysis are as follows: after the port opened in 1876, there has been a decline in settlement spaces in Dongnae; on the other hand, there has been an increase in migration spaces around the port of Busan. Waegwan (倭館) nearby Yongdusan Mountain (龍頭山) was changed to the Japanese concession; thus, the number of Japanese moving into Busan had rapidly increased. As a result, the Japanese government carried out reclamation work for securing available lands for the construction of port facilities and other facilities. The Japanese government built public offices and houses, as well as production facilities for daily necessities around the port of Busan. The opening of the Seoul Busan railway (京釜線) and the cross-channel liner between Busan and Shimonoseki (釜關連絡船) led to the growth of Busan and the development of its status. At this time, as the main industry of Busan was trade, Busan had grown as a commercial city. As Busan had grown as a central city of transportation and commerce, the provincial government building of Gyeongsangnam-do (慶尙南道) moved to Busan. Thus, Busan became the central city of local politics and administration. After the Land Survey Project, a large scale of farmers were recruited for low-wage work in the new port. Because of the abolition of the corporation law, Japanese capitalists moved into their colony in Busan. There, large-scale factories, such as the Joseon cotton textile factory, were established. Through this process, the locality of Busan was changed from a fishing village to a commercial city and, finally, to a city of commerce and industry.

  • This study was carried out in order to establish the estimation equation for school power consumption using regression analysis based on collected power consumption for two years of weather data and schools are located in Central Changwon and Masan district in Changwon city. (1) The power consumption estimation equation for Heating and cooling is calculated using power consumption per unit volume, the difference between actual power consumption and results of estimation equations is 4.1%. (2) The power consumption estimation equation for heating load is showed 2.6% difference compared to actual power consumption in Central Changwon and is expressed 2.9% difference compared to that in Masan district. Therefore, the power consumption prediction for each school using the power consumption estimation equation is possible. (3) The power consumption estimation equation for cooling load is showed 8.0% difference compared to actual power consumption in Central Changwon and is expressed 2.9% compared to that in Masan district. As the power consumption estimation equation for cooling load is expressed difference compared to heating load, it needs to investigate influence for cooling load.
