  • Thermal distortion of non-contacting mechanical seals with inclined rubbing surfaces is affected by friction heat between seal ring and seal seat. The circulation fluid along the inclined rubbing surfaces maintains cooling friction heat and lubrication between the sealing surfaces of mechanical seal with an inclined surface. Mechanical seals with inclined sealing surfaces may be useful for reducing the frictional heating and power loss because of the introduction of cooling fluids to the sealing gap between seal ring and seal seat. From the FEM computed result shows that the thermal behavior and von Mises stress of sealing faces with an inclined angle 60 are much reduced in comparison of the conventional mechanical face seal with rectangular sealing surfaces.

  • In this paper, we establish sufficient conditions for the solution set of parametric generalized vector mixed quasivariational inequality problem to have the semicontinuities such as the inner-openness, lower semicontinuity and Hausdorff lower semicontinuity. Moreover, a key assumption is introduced by virtue of a parametric gap function by using a nonlinear scalarization function. Then, by using the key assumption, we establish condition ($H_h$(${\gamma}_0$, ${\lambda}_0$, ${\mu}_0$)) is a sufficient and necessary condition for the Hausdorff lower semicontinuity, continuity and Hausdorff continuity of the solution set for this problem in Hausdorff topological vector spaces with the objective space being infinite dimensional. The results presented in this paper are different and extend from some main results in the literature.

  • It is important to understandflow characteristics and performances of sailsfor both sailors and designers who want to have efficient thrust of yacht. In this paper the viscous flows around sail-like rigid wings, which are similar to main and jib sails of a 30 feet sloop, are calculated using a CFD tool. Lift, drag and thrust forces are estimatedfor various conditions of gap distance between the two sails and the center of effort of the sail system is obtained. Wind tunnel experiments are also carried out to measure aerodynamic forces acting on the sail system and to validate the computation. It is found that the combination of two sails produces the lift force larger than the sum of that produced separately by each sail and the gap distance between the two sails is an important factor to determine total lift and thrust.

  • Surface roughness plays a significant role in friction, wear, and lubrication in machine components. Most engineering surfaces have the nongaussian height distribution. So, in this study, contact simulations are conducted for not only gaussian surfaces but also nongaussian surfaces. Nongaussian rough surface considering the kurtosis is generated numerically And the effects of kurtosis on real contact area fraction, average gap, and mean asperity contact pressure are studied. It will be shown that the real contact area fraction and the mean asperity contact pressure are sensitive to the characteristics of surface geometry according to kurtosis.

  • This work deals with finding a suitable position correction algorithm of industrial robot based on measuring gaps between door and chassis. The algorithm calculates correction quantities and then must allow visually acceptable door-chassis assembly take. The algorithm simulation is performed for a simple door-chassis model, and its effectiveness is addressed in terms of the predefined total unformity, line uniformity. In addition, the error sensitivity analysis of the rotation center of door due to the mismatch of robot grasping is performed using the algorithm.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study on the dynamic response of an elastomeric oil seal when the interferences between shaft and lip as well as the dynamic eccentricities are present. The dynamic response of seal lip in oil seals was observed with the aid of an image processing apparatus. The temperature of the seal lip edge, friction torque and the dynamic sealing gap between shaft and lip are measured at different conditions of the initial interference and the shaft eccentricity, The data were simultaneously measured under dynamic conditions. Experimental results show that, as the shaft speed is increased, S/e$_{d}$ has nearly reached a constant asymptotic value fur a certain range of shaft speeds. The results indicate that the gap separation between shaft and lip is provided due to the shaft eccentricity because the seal lip cannot follow quickly the radial displacements with increasing shaft speed.d.

  • This paper is concerned with the family of parts that generally feature a central hub with radial protrusions. As opposed to conventional forward and backward extrusion, in which the material flows in a direction parallel to that of the punch or die motion, the material flows perpendicular to the punch motion in radial extrusion. Three variants of radial extrusion of a collar or flange are investigated. Case I involves forcing a cylindrical billet against a flat die, Case II involves deformation against a stationary punch recessed in the lower die, and Case III involves both the upper and lower punches moving together toward the center of the billet. Extensive simulational work is performed with each case to see the process conditions in terms of forging load, balanced and symmetrical flow in the flange. Also, the effect of the gap size and die corner radii to the material flow are investigated. In this study, the forming characteristics of radial extrusion will be considered by comparing the forces, shapes etc. The design factors during radial extrusion are investigated by the rigid-plastic FEM simulation.

  • A carbon nanotube (CNT) of diameter ~20 nm has been synthesized by spray pyrolysis of turpentine oil using Ni/Fe catalyst. Pellet of CNTs has been used as a target to produce semiconducting carbon thin film of band gap 1.4 eV. Presence of oxygen pressure in the pulse laser deposition (PLD) chamber helped to control the $sp^3/sp^2$ ratio to achieve the desired band gap. Results are discussed with the help of Raman spectra, SEM TEM micrographs and optical measurements suggest that semiconducting carbon thin film deposited by PLD technique has retained its nanotubes structure except that its diameter has increased from 20 nm to 150 nm.

  • In this study, the filter was designed for tuning center frequency and fabricated using ($Sr,Ba)TiO_3$ ferroelectrics and $YBa_2CuO_7$ high temperature superconductor thin film. The best result in figure of merit was 35 when the $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ thin film deposition temperature was $600^{\circ}C$, the post anneal condition was $600^{\circ}C$, 10min in 1atm, $O_2$. When using $20{\mu}m$ IDC pattern gap. The higher tunability was obtained than using $30{\mu}m$ pattern gap.
