  • This study was performed to investigate the retrievability of the cementation type implant abutments. The cements used in this study were Cavitec, Tembond and Zinc Phosphate Cement. The types of surface conditioning were no treatment, 50 microne sandblasting, 250 microne sandblasting, fine diamond finishing point and coarse diamond point. The retention of cast crown was measured with Instron Universal Testing Machine(Instron Engineering Co., U.S.A.). The results were as fellows: 1. The Maximium retention was obtained by the group of Z.P.C. cementation and Coarse diamond point surface conditioning. 2. Z.P.C. shows maximum retention, and reduced in orders Tembond, Cavitec, No cement. 3. The value of retention of surface condition was highest in coarse diamond point, lowest in no tretment. 4. The similar results were obtained between fine diamond point and 50 microne sandblasting, coarse diamond point and 250 microne sandblasting. 5. The were no direct corelation between mechanical retention and cementation retention.

  • Recent construction method in mass concrete structures would depend on the control of hydration heats and thermal stresses by using the low heat cement, optimized block size and a lift height, or both. This experimental study aims at the possibility of thermal cracks according to the different types of cementations material and at the investigation of these effects. Four different types of cements are applied to the mock-up test and are evaluated in terms of temperature rises and thermal stresses with the use of thermocouples, strain gauges and effective stress gauges. As a result of this study, it was found that stresses measured from effective stress gauges agree well with ones form strain gauges, and the trend of stress occurrence can be well evaluated from theoretical analysis.

  • The last 10 years have seen considerable growth in the use of proprietary and special repair cements for concrete pavements in the state of Oklahoma. Many of these products lend themselves to "fast track" construction techniques that allow reopening to traffic within 12 hours or less. These products achieve high early strengths by accelerating the Portland cement hydration process for both Type I and Type III cements. In this paper, the important features of a durable repair which include strength, compatibility and bond or adhesion are first discussed. Then the development, testing and field implementation of the aforementioned materials are discussed including the learning curve required to implement a repair system, not just install a new material. Some of the materials discussed, while expensive on a cost per unit basis, hold great promise for economical use on fast track project.

  • Corrosion of steel reinforcing in concrete deteriorated by freezing/thawing and carbonation was characterized. Concrete specimens were prepared using various kinds of cements such as ordinary portland cement (type I), low heat portland cement (type IV, belite rich cement), sulphate resistance portland cement (type V), blast furnace slag portland cement and ternary blended cement. Of various cements, type V and type IV with lower $C_3A$ content revealed better steel corrosion resistance after freezing/thawing and carbonation. $C_3A$ content in cement might affect freezing/thawing resistance in sea water.

  • Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a tailor-made material that is used as a filling material in dentistry. GIC is cured by an acid-base reaction consisting of a glass filler and ionic polymers. When the glass filler and ionic polymers are mixed, ionic bonds of the material itself are formed. In addition, the extra polymer anion reacts with calcium in enamel or dentin to increase adhesion to the tooth tissue. GICs are widely used as adhesives for artificial crowns or orthodontic brackets, and are also used as tooth repair material, cavity liner, and filling materials. In this review, the current status of GIC research and development and its prospects for the future have been discussed in detail.

  • This study presents the results of investigations with the object to determine the resistance to sulfuric acid for some kinds of cements containing 0%-70% of slag powder. The specimen is immersed 5% H$_2$SO$_4$ solution after the 28th days, is measured chemical analysis, XRD, SEM and etc after the immersed 35th days and is measured the erosion depth after the immersed 168th days. The results of experiment are founded out that alumina cement containing slag power was excellent at a point of view for the sulfuric acid resistance and the erosion depth was suitable to the evaluated method of the sulfuric acid resistance in the stead of the evaluated method of weight loss.

  • This paper presents the history of heat hydration and the core strength of underwater non-segregation concrete. Three types of cements including Type I, Type V and low-heat cement have been used to make the mass specimens for measurement of heat of hydration and also for coring. Two environments of ambient and underwater conditions have been accounted for the comparison of producing the heat of hydration and for the assessment of core strength in respect to the test specimens made under normal practice.

  • This paper is to investigate the chemical composition and physical properties of cements collected at different crushing process line of ordinary portland cement to verify the possibility for producing special purpose cement based on the particle distribution technique. According to test results, six different cement samples with different blaine were gathered. loss on ignition and chemical composition of cements gathered were satisfied with KS L 5201. Cement collected at line 5 had the lowest blaine value while cement at line 4 had the highest blaine value. The coarser the cement particle is, the larger the fluidity of cement is. The compressive strength of cement was highly affected by the blaine value of cement. It is confirmed that the use of cement produced by the process of particle distribution control may be applied for special purpose cement without modification of chemical composition.

  • Cementation is the last procedure and an important factor to access successful fixed prosthodontic treatment. Even though there are many kinds of luting materials in dental field, the resin cements are popularly used in now. Metals, polymers and ceramics are used as a material of fixed dental prosthesis. The bonding mechanisms between teeth and fixed restorations are composed of mechanical and chemical mechanism. In dentistry, we are relying on mechanical bonding, but we tried to get chemical bonding and many ways are introduced. So, we have to approach luting procedure differently by the materials of prosthesis for clinical success. In this article, let us think the proper cementation ways according to each prosthesis material.

  • In this study, as part of the foundation for advancing the material compounding aspect to reduce hydration heat cracks in the mat foundation on which the mass concrete is constructed, the degree of concrete varieties of cement is used. The setting time was measured and comparative analysis was performed. Results It was confirmed that the concrete using LHC was more effective than the concrete using OPC in reducing the use of SP, the calorific value of the concrete was low, and it was more effective in preventing cracks. It is also terminated after 10 hours and it is determined that the use of LHC can reduce the cracks caused by the heat of hydration of the mat foundation.
