Change of pore structure and uniaxial compressive strength of sandstone under electrochemical coupling

  • The effect of electrochemical modification of the physical and mechanical properties of sandstone from Paleozoic coal measure strata was investigated by means of liquid nitrogen physical adsorption, X-ray diffraction and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) tests using purified water, 1 mol/L NaCl, 1 mol/L $CaCl_2$ and 1 mol/L $AlCl_3$ aqueous solution as electrolytes. Electrochemical corrosion of electrodes and wire leads occurred mainly in the anodic zone. After electrochemical modification, pore morphology showed little change in distribution, decrease in total pore specific surface area and volume, and increased average pore diameter. The total pore specific surface area in the anodic zone was greater than in the cathodic zone, but total pore volume was less. Mineralogical composition was unchanged by the modification. Changes in UCS were caused by a number of factors, including corrosion, weakening by aqueous solutions, and electrochemical cementation, and electrochemical cementation stronger than corrosion and weakening by aqueous solutions.

이리듐 회수를 위한 시멘테이션 공정 중 초음파 조사의 영향 (Effect of Ultrasound Irradiation during Cementation Process for Recovery of Iridium)

  • 이리듐이 함유된 염산 침출액으로부터 시멘테이션법을 이용한 이리듐 회수 연구를 실시하였다. 환원제로는 아연을 사용하였으며, 환원제 투입량, 이리듐 초기 농도, 초기 pH, 반응 시간 변화 및 초음파 처리에 따른 이리듐 회수율 특성 실험을 실시하였다. 교반기만 사용한 조건에서는 아연 투입량 증가에 따라 이리듐의 회수율이 지속적으로 증가하였으나, 아연 당량이 40 조건에서 70% 수준의 이리듐 회수율을 나타냈다. 초음파 처리에 따른 시멘테이션 조건에서는 아연 투입량이 20 당량 이하 조건에서 이리듐의 회수율이 감소하였고, 40 당량 조건에서는 이리듐 회수율이 급격히 증가하는 특성을 나타났다. 이는 초음파 처리에 따른 아연의 이온화 및 이리듐 재용해되어 나타난 결과로 판단된다. 초음파 장치를 교반기와 함께 사용한 조건에서 교반기만 사용한 동일 조건에 비해 27% 이상 이리듐 회수율이 증가함을 확인하였고, 99%의 이리듐 회수가 가능하였다(아연 40 당량, 초기 pH 0.01, 100 ml, 이리듐 초기 농도 1770 ppm, 60 min.).

고결모래의 강도특성에 대한 영향요인 분석 (Analysis of Influencing Factors on Strength Characteristics of Cemented Sand)

  • 본 연구에서는 고결시 상재구속압(${\sigma_{sit}}'$), 상대밀도, 그리고 입자특성이 고결모래의 점착력과 고결결합 파괴구속압(${p_i}'_{(BP)}$)에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위하여 400kPa 까지의 구속압으로 압밀된 고결모래에 대한 배수전단시험을 실시하였다. 시험결과 동일 상대밀도와 석고함유율로 고결된 모래의 점착력과 ${p_i}'_{(BP)}$${\sigma_{sit}}'$에 관계없이 동일하게 결정되어, ${\sigma_{sit}}'$이 고결모래의 강도특성에 미치는 영향은 상대적으로 적은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 상대밀도나 고결정도가 증가할수록 고결모래의 점착력과 ${p_i}'_{(BP)}$는 증가하였으며, 상대밀도가 점착력에 미치는 영향보다 ${p_i}'_{(BP)}$에 미치는 영향이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 또한 입자특성이 다른 세 종류의 모래시료에 대한 결과를 분석한 결과, 시료 입경이 작을수록 입자사이의 접촉점이 증가하여 점착력과 ${p_i}'_{(BP)}$가 크게 결정되었다.

Recovery of Nitric Acid and Valuable Metals from Spent Nitric Etching Solutions of Printed Circuit Board

  • A study has been made on the recovery of nitric acid and valuable metals such as Cu, Sn, Pb from the spent nitric etching solutions. The nitric acid was extracted effectively by TBP but the heavy metals such as Fe, Cu, Sn, Pb were not extracted by TBP from the spent nitric etching solutions. From the experimental results, 95% of nitric acid in spent etching solution was extracted at O:A ratio of 3:1 with five stage by 60% TBP and 98% of nitric acid was stripped from the loaded organic phase at O:A ratio of 1:1 with four stages by distilled water. After extracting nitric acid, Cu was recovered as a metal by electrowinning effectively and Sn was successfully removed by precipitation method by adjusting the pH of raffinate solution. Finally, Pb was recovered by cementation with iron scrap at $65^{\circ}C$. Parameters controlling the cementation process, such as temperature, pH and the effect of the additives were investigated.

The effect of thickness and translucency of polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network material on degree of conversion of resin cements

  • PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to determine the degree of conversion of light- and dual-cured resin cements used in the cementation of all-ceramic restorations under different thicknesses of translucent (T) and high-translucent (HT) polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network (PICN) material. MATERIALS AND METHODS. T and HT PICN blocks were prepared at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm thicknesses (n=80). Resin cement samples were prepared with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 100 ㎛. Light-cured resin cement was polymerized for 30 seconds, and dual-cure resin cement was polymerized for 20 seconds (n=180). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used for degree of conversion measurements. The obtained data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey HSD, and independent t-test. RESULTS. As a result of FTIR analysis, the degree of conversion of the light-cured resin cement prepared under 1.5- and 2.0-mm-thick T and HT ceramics was found to be lower than that of the control group. Regarding the degree of conversion of the dual-cured resin cement group, there was no significant difference from the control group. CONCLUSION. Within the limitation of present study, it can be concluded that using of dual cure resin cement can be suggested for cementation of PICN material, especially for thicknesses of 1.5 mm and above.

304 스테인레스강의 고착방지성능 향상을 위한 Sn-Al 열 확산 코팅 기술 개발 (Development of Sn-Al Thermal Diffusion Coating Technology for Improving Anti-Galling Characteristics of 304 Stainless Steel)

  • The important drawback of hardware fasteners consisted of 304 stainless steel (STS) is a frequent galling caused by a combination of friction and adhesion between the sliding surface. To improve the anti-galling effect, Sn-Al coatings by a thermal diffusion have been developed. The thermal diffusion by pack cementation with an $AlCl_3$ activator at $250^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour produced an Sn-Al alloy coating layer with an average thickness of $9.9{\pm}0.5{\mu}m$ on the surface of 304 STS fasteners. Compared with the galling frequency of the 304 STS fasteners, Sn-Al coatings on the surface of 304 STS fasteners demonstrated about 2.8-time reduction of the galling frequency.

용해된 소금의 고결화에 따른 탄성파 특성 (Elastic Wave Characteristics According to Cementation of Dissolved Salt)

  • 공학적 관점에서 용해가능한 가장 흔한 재료인 소금은 고결화 작용에 있어서 역학적 거동에 큰 영향을 미친다. 이러한 자연적 현상을 조사하기 위하여 용해되지 않는 재료인 글라스비즈와 소금물을 혼합하여 시료를 조성한 후 오븐을 이용하여 포화도를 변화시켜가면서 실험을 수행하였다. 입자크기가 0.26, 0.50, 1.29mm인 3종류의 글라스비즈와 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0M의 소금물에 대하여 각각의 시료를 조성 후 벤더 엘리먼트와 피에조 디스크 엘리먼트를 이용하여 전단파와 압축파를 측정하였다 소금에 의한 고결화 발생에서 전단파와 압축파 속도 모두 포화도에 따른 세가지 단계를 보여주었다: 1) 포차도가 $100%{\sim}90%$인 구간으로 전단파의 속도는 증가하고 압축파의 속도는 감소한다; 2) 포화도가 $90%{\sim}10%$인 구간으로 전단파와 압축파의 속도에 큰 변화가 없파; 3) 포화도가 $10%{\sim}0%$인 구간으로 전단파 및 압축파는 큰 변화를 보인다. 또한, 전단파의 공진주파수는 전단파의 속도 변화양상과 비슷한 경향을 보였다. 본 연구는 용해된 소금의 고결화에 따른 지반재료들의 탄성파 특성의 의미있는 경향을 보여준다.

치과용 도재의 재소성 과정중 수분 함량이 강도에 미치는 영향 (EFFECT OF WATER CONTENT ON THE FLEXURAL STRENGTH DURING REFIRING IN DENIAL PORCELAIN)

  • Statement of problem : Long-term exposure of dental porcelain to saliva during temporary cementation of a porcelain-fused to metal (PFM) restoration could affect mechanical strength of dental porcelain if the restoration is refired. Purpose : This work was performed to verify the effect of water on the mechanical strength in aged dental porcelain. Material and method : 63 specimens(Vintage Metalbond opaque and opal powder) were distributed to three experimental groups ; non-water immersed control, immersed and pedried, and immersed and non-predired groups. The changes in flexural strength and fracture toughness after specimen refiring related to Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Results : 1. The FT-IR reflectances assigned to molecular bonds of $H_2O$ were noted as significantly different between the first-fired group and three refired groups and between two water-immersed groups and control group after refiring(p<0.05). They were also significantly different between predried group and non-predried group after refiring(p<0.05) 2. For opal specimens, FT-IR absorbances for hydrogen bond of $H_2O$ and silanols were significantly higher in non-predried group than in predreid group(p<0.05). 3 Predried opal group showed the highest mean flexural strength(p<0.05). Non-predried group indicated higher mean flexural strength than control group(p<0.05). 4. The mean fracture toughness for predired group was higher than non-predried group(p<0.05). 5. The difference of leucite crystal size is noted between control group and water-immersed, predried group in scanning electron microscopic study(${\times}10000$).

The effect of resin cements and primer on retentive force of zirconia copings bonded to zirconia abutments with insufficient retention

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of resin cements and primer on the retentive force of zirconia copings bonded to zirconia abutments with insufficient retention. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Zirconia blocks (Lava, 3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA) were obtained and forty sets of zirconia abutments and copings were fabricated using CAD/CAM technology. They were grouped into 4 categories as follows, depending on the types of resin cements used, and whether the primer is applied or not:Panavia F2.0 (P), Panavia F2.0 using Primer (PRIME Plus, Bisco Inc, Schaumburg, IL, USA) (PZ), Superbond C&B (S), and Superbond C&B using Primer (SZ). For each of the groups, the cementation was conducted. The specimens were kept in sterilized water ($37^{\circ}C$) for 24 hours. Retentive forces were tested and measured, and a statistical analysis was carried out. The nature of failure was recorded. RESULTS. The means and standard deviations of retentive force in Newton for each group were $265.15{\pm}35.04$ N (P), $318.21{\pm}22.24$ N (PZ), $445.13{\pm}78.54$ N (S) and $508.21{\pm}79.48$ N (SZ). Superbond C&B groups (S & SZ) showed significantly higher retentive force than Panavia F2.0 groups (P & PZ). In Panavia F2.0 groups, the use of primer was found to contribute to the increase of retentive force. On the other hand, in Superbond C&B groups, the use of primer did not influence the retention forces. Adhesive failure was observed in all groups. CONCLUSION. This study suggests that cementation of the zirconia abutments and zirconia copings with Superbond C&B have a higher retentive force than Panavia F2.0. When using Panavia F2.0, the use of primer increases the retentive force.

Effect of abutment types and resin cements on the esthetics of implant-supported restorations

  • PURPOSE. The aim of the study was to evaluate the optical properties of new generation (3Y-TZP) monolithic zirconia (MZ) with different abutment types and resin cement shades. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A1/LT MZ specimens were prepared (10 × 12 × 1 mm, N = 30) and divided into 3 groups according to cement shades as transparent (Tr), yellow (Y) and opaque (O). Abutment specimens were obtained from 4 different materials including zirconia (Group Z), hybrid (Group H), titanium (Group T) and anodized yellow titanium (Group AT). MZ and abutment specimens were then cemented. L*, a*, and b* parameters were obtained from MZ, MZ + abutment, and MZ + abutment + cement. ∆E001* (between MZ and MZ + abutment), ∆E002* (between MZ and MZ + abutment + cement) and ∆E003* (between MZ + abutment and MZ + abutment + cement) values were calculated. Statistical analyses included 2-way ANOVA, Bonferroni, and Paired Sample t-Tests (P < .05). RESULTS. Abutment types and resin cements had significant effect on L*, a*, b*, ∆E001*, ∆E002*, and ∆E003* values (P < .001). Without cementation, whereas zirconia abutment resulted in the least discoloration (∆E001* = 0.68), titanium abutment caused the most discoloration (∆E001* = 4.99). The least ∆E002* = 0.68 value was seen using zirconia abutment after cementation with yellow shaded cement. Opaque shaded cement caused the most color change (∆E003* = 5.24). Cement application increased the L* values in all groups. CONCLUSION. The least color change with/without cement was observed in crown configurations created with zirconia abutments. Zirconia and hybrid abutments produced significantly lower ∆E002* and ∆E003* values in combination with yellow shaded cement. The usage of opaque shaded cement in titanium/anodized titanium groups may enable the clinically unacceptable ∆E00* value to reach the acceptable level.
